The hero Andre is a fur trapper that is forced to take a bride in order to keep his trappers license. He goes to pick a bride from the latest group of “king’s brides”. Respectable but impoverished noblewomen sent over from France to marry and help establish communities in the Canadian wilderness. Genevieve the heroine has switched places with the real noble woman who has no intention of living in Canada no matter what the king says. Genevieve is sitting in the corner deathly ill. Our hero has a brainstorm. Marry her and when she corks off he’LL be foot loose and fancy free. He has badly underestimated his wife. She gets better and tracks him down. That’s when the story takes off. He may not want to be a husband but she very much wants to be a wife. A great read with a different twist.
I really liked this book. It involved a time period and group that rarely are the subject of romance books…seventeenth century France and the New World.
Cute and full of a decent amount of sexy conflictions, historical details fine and large were found with enough frequency to keep me totally engaged with the written natural environment of the time period. Didn’t make me think too hard either, but gave me more than enough intelligent goobers to make my cynical side shut up long enough to get my rocks off. Fun, hot, not crazy smart but def not a dumb read as far as watching human motivation and growth goes.
Absolutely loved this book! In the beginning the guy seemed like a real tool for wanting to use the female as a means to only get his land, but the female really one upped him by duping him and hiding her true identity. In the end though, the story became really sweet because of the love these two characters eventually find. Also, the storyline was interesting and different. Not the typical American Old West mail order bride stories you read about but rather this one is based in Canada. You really feel for the hardships this female would have to endure in an environment like the Canadian wilderness.
Great adventure story about early fur trade and how one of the king’s women went into the wilderness to make a home with her husband.
The new didnt know what it was getting when she was shipped to Canada but with a strong will and grit she made him see her as she was. But honesty is always a best policy as she finds out. This was a good read and enjoyable.
Since I read a lot of westerns of the US persuasion, this one was interesting because of its focus on French settlers. Genny and Andre have a rough start, but their mutual love of adventure is what brings them together. I think my favorite part of this book was the ending! It had a great twist! I love an ending that isn’t predictable!
Had trouble getting into it and I’d lose interest easily
Genevieve switches with a friend to become a Kings Girl and travel to Quebec where she becomes the wife of Andre, a fur trapper. Their struggles in the wilds of Canada within the fur trade business is well balanced, well written and based on historical facts.
I enjoyed the premise of the story. It was an unusual plot that could definitely have happened. It portrays life at an interesting time in history. I thoroughly enjoyed it and also loved the ending.
Good book. Easy to read. Good plot.
An enjoyable read
Good book lover the interaction between main characters. Loved the romance
Much more of a plot — and an enjoyable and well written one at that! — than I expected. Very good read, although the ending did seem a bit rushed. I stayed up until 3am reading it.
Sex, sex, sex!
Great period book with wonderful characters.
Nice story line.
It was awesome, kept me on my toes. Loved the story.
Great characters and emotional resolutions were real!
A story of a Kings girl and a fur trader. He must marry to keep his trading license, so he marries the one who has one foot in the grave. There’s a lot of twists and turns in this one.
