Lyrical, emotional, dramatic, and packed with Nancy Thayer’s trademark warmth and wisdom, Heat Wave tells the moving story of a woman who, after her seemingly perfect life unravels, must find the strength to live and love again. After her husband’s sudden death, Carley Winsted is determined to keep her two daughters in their beloved home on Nantucket. To ease the family’s financial strain, she … financial strain, she decides to transform their grand, historic house into a bed-and-breakfast. Not everyone, however, thinks this plan prudent or quite respectable—especially not Carley’s mother-in-law. Further complicating a myriad of challenges, a friend forces Carley to keep a secret that, if revealed, will undo families and friendships. And her late husband’s former law partner is making Carley confront an array of mixed feelings. Then, during a late-summer heat wave, the lives of Carley and her friends and family will be forever changed in entirely unexpected ways.

This packs a lot of everyday highs and lows of Carley after her husband Gus dies. She’s a younger widow with a preteen and younger child. She is one of three amigos with best buddies Maud and Vanessa.
This takes place near beach, ocean, old homes, tourists sights so you live through the seasons as Carley tries to turn her old home into a bed and …
It took a while for me to get into this book, and I didn’t completely connect with the characters, but I did eventually finish the book and overall I enjoyed it.
There’s definitely some tension and heartbreak in this book, but sometimes I felt like it could have been set in the 1950s — there’s so much pressure on the women to need/have a man. …
I listened to the audio version of this book and really enjoyed the narrator. What a good book! We had mostly women with their ups and downs, along with that a horrible tragedy that really had me in tears. This is a book about women who love each other and hate each other at times. There are men that are loved, there is romance and sex. They …
I really liked this story of Carly and her two girls, Cisco and Margaret. After losing her husband suddenly, Carly finds out they have no money and a huge house to look after. Her in laws try to help but they are struggling with the death of their only son and through out the book they don’t offer much help because of that. You will meet Vanessa …
Loved it
This book wasn’t bad, a little predictable., a quick read. What annoyed me most, the title, I have no idea where it came from? Only twice in the book it mention it was hot, it was mostly winter months.
I enjoyed this book.
While the storyline is predictable, it is a good, heartwarming read. The characters are realistic, esp the mother-in-law. I enjoyed it.
Great book about life, loss, and friendship.
This book held my attention from start to finish because I truly wanted to know what was going to happen next, to find out how was the story going to unfold. I thoroughly loved it and wish there was more to come with these interesting characters!
I love reading Nancy Thayer’s books, especially when I need some light entertainment. Her books make really good summer/vacation reading!
This was a good book about friendships and what life hands you. It was a very enjoyable read from one of my favorite authors.
Gratuitously titled, but fun when all is said and done.
Good summer vacation book
Good book to read on vacation.
Loved this book!
Enjoyed the characters, the realistic emotions and the strength it takes when grief unexpectedly changes ones life. It left the in laws out of the picture completely after their trip which I found strange since they had been so involved at first.
Liked it. First of her books I have read and I am sure to read more.
What I liked about this book is that I could not have predicted the way the story unfolded. It was refreshing to have a story that was not the same old same old.
Loved the characters! I did not want the story to end! The story has some heat breaking twists that I didn’t see coming, Would love a sequel.
