To most people I’ve always been known as the smart one. The level headed, easy-going, laid back Bennett brother. Steady as a rock …unshakable. My future was carved out. All I had to do was stay focused. That all changed the night I met Claire Dixon. Beautiful, crazy, wild—opposite of me in every way. She was impossible to resist. For the first time in my life, I gave into temptation, falling hard … into temptation, falling hard and fast along the way.
Letting her go once was the biggest mistake of my life.
I waited, watching as she became a woman more beautiful and more desirable than I could ever imagine.
Then my time came. I saw my shot, took it, and never looked back.
What I didn’t know was some mistakes are irreparable.
Claire thinks our happily ever after is impossible, but I have other plans.
No matter how dirty, how wicked, or how underhanded I have to play… I’m going to prove she’s wrong. And I’m going to love every minute of it.

Another sexy smoldering page turning book in the Bennett Brothers series from Ahren Sanders. Highly recommend!
Since Mathis Bennett was introduced to Bizzy’s best friend, Claire Nixon, in book one of Ahren Sanders’ The Bennett Brothers series, I’ve watched their interactions with rapt attention, waiting for them to give into the sexual attraction that’s been there from the start, so I was beyond excited to finally get their story in Heartthrob, and let me tell you, Ahren Sanders DID NOT disappoint; in fact, Dr. Delectable is my favorite Bennett brother…just don’t tell Shaw or Nick;)
All three of the heroines in this series are kickass human beings who deserve
their every dream to come true, and for the longest time, Mathis has been Claire’s biggest desire, and while he’s been upfront with Claire about what this is between them and why it can’t be anything more than what it is, I don’t blame her for holding out hope…for allowing Mathis to invade her heart, not just her body…for honestly believing that he would change his mind the more time they spent together, and even though she might have set herself up for heartbreak, the fact that Mathis can’t see what’s always between them means he doesn’t deserve a woman like Claire, even if Mathis’ reasons logically make sense.
Claire has been both Bizzy and Grace’s sounding board in her two friends’ dealings with Shaw and Nick Bennett, so it makes sense for them to repay Claire’s insights and honesty, which is exactly what Bizzy and Grace do when they realize that Claire has been hiding quite a bit from them, which makes it the perfect time to turn Claire’s words against her, and it’s a good thing they do because with a much clearer picture of what’s been happening between Claire and Mathis, Bizzy and Grace along with Shaw and Nick can figure out what it’s going to take to repair what’s broken when it comes to Mathis and Claire’s relationship.
In Hotshot and Sexy Six, readers saw what it took for Shaw and Nick to realize what they’d be missing out on if they didn’t step up for the women they loved and make things right, so one would think that Mathis would learn from his brothers’ mistakes and figure things out way before he reached the point of no return with Claire, but because he’s guided by his intellect and not his emotions, Mathis needed a bit more help, so it’s a good thing that his brothers and their spouses were more than happy to step in and help both Mathis and Claire get out of their own way and live their best life together.
The bond that the three Bennett brothers share as well as how connected they and their significant others are is one reason why I adore this series. These six individuals make one heck of a team, stepping up for one another in a multitude of ways, letting it be known that if anyone messes with one of them, they mess with all of them, making them a group of people that no one wants as an enemy.
Because readers are privy to both Mathis and Claire’s point of view, we see firsthand the reality of their feelings for each other and the heartache and anguish that one or the other feels at crucial times in their story. Claire is definitely known for her larger-than-life personality, but Ahren Sanders does a great job of illustrating Claire’s other side – the softer side that she hates but one that shows who she is beneath all that snark. And with that full view of Claire’s personality, I can’t help but have a bit of a girl crush on her and since Mathis is my favorite Bennett brother, it’s only fitting that these two also make up my favorite Bennett couple and it was so worth waiting for them to fight for their happily ever after.
There’s one plot line in the story that readers may think doesn’t mesh well with the rest of the events in the book, and I’ll admit that I was a little leery about where it would go and why it was there, but the more insights provided and the fact that no one got hurt made me understand why it’s there and what it allows readers to see about Claire…about the idea of family…about people being just what other people need to make it through traumatic and dramatic situations.
I’ve been a huge Ahren Sanders’ fan since I first read Reed’s Reckoning, and my love for her storytelling and her characters has only grown since that book. I love her emotional romances and it’s clear that she puts her whole heart into every book, every chapter, every sentence, and every word, which is why Heartthrob is one fantastic read.
4.5 Poison Apples
Once again this author blows me away. I love the Bennett boys and their Alfa ways! I have to say Mathis surprised me. He has quickly became my favorite Bennett man. What a woman wouldn’t do to be a #bennettbabe! This story will suck you in and make you continue to flip the pages. The hotness factor is off the charts. Their continued dedication and love for the children’s oncology department will bring you to tears. I love most of all that we get the full effect of all the Bennett’s!
Although not necessary, I read the previous two books about the Bennett Brothers, Shaw (Hotshot) and Nick (Sexy Six). When I learned that the third brother, Mathis was going to get his story as well, there was no doubt that I was going to one click this highly anticipated but sadly final book in the series. Mathis and Claire (Heartthrob) did not disappoint and I think they may have edged out as one of my favorites. Heartthrob has it all – romance, steam, angst, mystery, tears, and lots of sass with laughs. Who wouldn’t love a Dr. Delicious of their very own?
