Move over, Colin Firth – there’s a new Darcy in town! Jax Hawthorne is Hollywood’s sexiest bad boy. I’m a glorified secretary who thinks color-coding my library is a wild Friday night. So when he shows up after all this time wanting to make good on our childhood deal to tie the knot, it’s not because he can’t resist my perfect credit score. He needs a fake girlfriend to rehab his reckless image, … his reckless image, and I’m the (safe, sensible) girl for the job. I would be insulted… if the proposal didn’t come with an all-expenses-paid trip to England while he shoots a new movie version of ’Pride & Prejudice.’
Goodbye, my dumpster fire of a dating life. Hello, steamy nights with a chiseled hunk who knows all the right moves.
Soon, I’m knee-deep in the English mud – and on-set drama. But all our fake-smoldering is getting my very real panties in a twist. It turns out, Jax is so much more than just a reckless playboy. He makes me want to forget our ‘arrangement’.. and break all the rules.
Can our pretend romance turn to something real? Or will scheming actresses, control-freak PR crews, and a pesky little thing called love ruin the best (fake) relationship of my life?

Jax is and actor who has the image of being a manwhore. In an attempt to fix said image he asks his childhood friend Penny to be his fake girlfriend while taping his new movie in England
Penny is single, recently fired and always plays it safe. In an attempt to turn things around, she agrees to play Jax’ girlfriend.
But soon the lines blur and they don’t know what’s real and what’s fake.
I liked both Penny and Jax, they are both, kind, funny and relatable.
They are opposites, but adorable together and their chemistry sparked off the pages.
The writer really builds up the sexual tension till the anticipation almost killed me.
I enjoyed listening to this book, the pace was perfect with a fun storyline and loveable character.
The Heartthrob is narrated by Anthony Furgerson and Samantha Cook.
Both narrators are new to me.
I immediately was into Anthony’s voice. It is deep and slightly gravely. It felt like he didn’t just read the story, but he was Jax. His English accent was very good and consistent.
In the first chapters it sounded like Samantha Cook was reading the story, but she quickly got into the characters and the story. She sounds so sweet and gentle.
I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook, it is a sweet, sexy story with undertones of humor and insecurities and the narrators did a fantastic job bringing it to life.
Another great book by this talented author. Penny and Jax’s story was steamy, romantic, and a little crazy….but so much fun! How can you not love a story about childhood friends reconnecting later in life.
Heartthrob by Katie McCoy is an utterly adorable friends-to-lovers romance. Hot, British actor in need of cleaning up his act uses poor, out-of-work childhood friend to dupe the studio heads into thinking he is no longer a party boy. The only problem is, the childhood friend is in a vulnerable place and crushes on him.
Pretty red-headed Penny grew up poor, and that influenced her need for stability and her risk avoidance. Penny is an adorable and highly empathetic character. The British heartthrob, Jax, grew up economically privileged, but emotional poor. Jax had his chivalrous, swoon-worthy moments, but he also had plenty of moments when he played the self-centered, obtuse jerk. These two are the perfect Yin-Yang balance. Their chemistry is undeniable even when the two are trying to deny their attraction to the other.
Author McCoy’s Heartthrob is a delightful, well-pace read. I thoroughly enjoyed the fun storyline and the great characters.
Penny and Jax are making Ms Austen blush something fierce while they steam up the English countryside! Penny has always been one to play it safe. It’s always suited the cautious minded Pen, but after being dumped by Greg the free spirited poet for being boring and too serious she is trying to jump out of her comfort zone a little. After disastrous upon horrendous tinder dates she is all set to buy some cats and pack it in – when suddenly a blast from the past comes strolling into the bar. Jax Hawthorne is no longer the gangly but sweet boy she made a marriage pack with 15 years ago but one of Hollywood’s hunkiest leading men and bad boys. With his classic good looks and smooth british accent he is every woman’s wet dream and knows it. Shockingly he actually remembers her and even more mind blowing wants to collect on their pack! Jax needs a image makeover according to his PR team. If he wants his dream role he needs to clean up his act and to do that he needs to to show stability. When he reconnects with his old pal Penny it’s like stars are aligning and she can be that image adjustment he needs. Penny will be his fake girlfriend for the cameras and if he can convince her to do some overtime in private that would suit him just fine. But when the cameras stops rolling will he be able to just let Penny walk away?
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.
Really enjoy this well written series and characters.
