Warning, this story is addicting and will pull you completely in. That’s what it did to me. Rachel is a newly single mom, divorced, and living with her parents with her young daughter. As she is trying to get used to this new life she never thought she’d live, she is also dealing with her daughter new best friend’s father Lennox. He has an attitude with her and they seem to butt heads. He is also her celebrity crush from when she was a girl. And to make it worse, they have to work on the bake sale committee together. Talk about an enemies to lovers. Once these two finally put their guards down they see what is truly there. Then a disaster happens that threatens to ruin their happiness. I connected with Rachel. I am not a single mother myself but I felt for her. I was so glad this author made her daughter not a normal little girl. She liked boy things and had a different personality. It made me able to relate more. And also I felt for Rachel. How many of us parents feel like a hot mess who can’t fit in all the time? Right here! The only issue I have with this book is I need book two like now. This author left us needing to find out what happens. I highly suggest this to romance fans. Get ready to love these characters. You’ll laugh out loud and also feel your heart clenched. This narrator was the perfect voice for Rachel. Feels like she really is her!
Heartthrob is book 1 in the Heart Duet and it is amazing. What happens when an former teen star now single dad and a newly single mother must work together on the PTA? All sorts if things. But when one misstep ruins everything will Rachel be able to salvage things with Lennox? I couldn’t put this book down and I absolutely enjoyed reading it.
HeartThrob by Magan Vernon is book One in the Heart Duet. This starts the story of Lennox and Rachel.
Lennox is a former TV Start now trying to live a quiet life raising his daughter. Rachel is a newly divorced mother with a daughter also. Working to get past the hurt left by a bad marriage. When she is called into the principle office she meets Lennox, her childhood TV crush. Sparks fly between the two but things don’t go to easy then a bad decision might lead to the end for them.
Can’t wait for the next installment in their story.
Sweet story about two single parents trying to do the best they can raising their children while dealing with difficult exes and situations.
They two were definitely not looking for love, especially with each other, but sometimes it has a way of creeping up on you when you least expect it. Lennox and Rachel are a very likable couple and their kids are absolutely adorable.
Their story had me laughing out loud, shedding tears and feeling the warm fuzzies. I enjoyed going on this journey with them and look forward to listening to the next book. (3.5)
The narrator did a lovely job bringing each of the characters to life. I would definitely listen to more of her work.
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
I love me a single parent book. Add in two of them who bond over each other’s kids and I’m a goner.
This was an amazing listen. Loved the humor and banter in it and the chemistry between the two MCs is off the charts.
Narrator did a great job with all the parts.
Warning ends in cliffhanger and I want to go find it now!

Heartthrob
Heart Duet, Book 1
By: Magan Vernon
Narrated by: Hannah Baker
I started this book on my way to work, and all day I kept thinking about the characters and when I could get back to listening! It sucked me in and held me hostage! Magan Vernon’s Heartthrob is chock full of all the things I love to listen to. Rachel is a newly single mom with her daughter, Arianna, that is not your typical girlie girl. This is the first thing that caught me. She let Rachel be herself. When she meets the father of Arianna’s best friend, things get sticky. Not only is he the actor she had a crush on as a teen, but he is the man she is forced to work with at the school bake sale. These two clash immediately. And our enemies to lovers plot begins. Vernon had a spectacular vision as she wrote this story. It’s got so much going for it. The new mom working to build her self confidence, the father with an attitude and a daughter who doesn’t easily fit in all create some humor as well as bringing real life issues we can easily relate to. It’s easy to listen to and will have you falling in love.
Hannah Baker is a new narrator to me and she is fabulous. I enjoyed her voices, and the antics she brings to the characters. From the well dressed, classy mom, to Rachel trying to find her new normal, she let’s us in and has us enjoy the ride.

Heartthrob is the first book in the Heart Duet and I could not stop listening to this audio. This single mom/single dad novel had some laugh out loud moments and some serious moments, yet I enjoyed it all. I loved the banter and chemistry between Lennox and Rachel and the addition of the secondary characters most especially the kids really added to this story. The story was cute, the characters were likable and inclusion of that cliff-hanger ending have me really anxious for part 2 to see how it all ends. I would recommend this novel for all lovers of romantic comedies.
The audiobook version was narrated by Hannah Baker. She did a fantastic job with these characters and was able to switch characters seemlessly. She had great pace and timing and really brought the story to life. It was a pleasure listening to her narrate this novel.
Warning: Abrupt cliffhanger. I listened to the Audible version and I didn’t notice that I was to the final scene until it was over. I’m interested in book 2, but since it doesn’t stand alone I would have preferred that it was sold in a set, or just in a single book as this title is relatively short.
This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by Megan Vernon. It has a conversational writing style that I really like. I liked Hannah Baker’s voice as a narrator, though since the book is written in that conversational style I would have preferred if it was performed more conversationally.
Overall, I would recommend this book if you have access to the second one right away.
A very nice listen. You have some comical areas, but very adult parts too. I loved seeing Rachel get a backbone and learn how to defend herself. I also love the slow burn in this book. The last part of the book left me reeling though, so I may not be able to wait for the audio to come out and just read it now.
Narration was done really well and matches the writing the way you would expect it to.
This is the first book in the Heart Duet. Lennox and Rachel’s story is a great single parents’s stories. The story is sweet, fun, and emotional, filled with drama, and secrets. The story ends with an unexpected cliffhanger. Hannah Baker did a great job with the narration. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Duet, Heartbreaker.
Great RomCom & Audible Listen Delightful & Heartfelt! 4.5 Stars
Heartthrob
Heart Duet, Book 1
By: Magan Vernon
Narrated by: Hannah Baker
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it is well written with storylines that are captivating from start to end. The characters are complex and nicely developed, they are ones you can relate to. Both lead characters are single parents who daughters attend school together and become friends. Rachel Rise is trying to get back on her feet after her divorce, she moved her and her daughter Arianna back to her childhood home. Arianna starts a new school and immediately makes friends with Juniper, Lennox “Len” Reign’s daughter. Rachel notices Len, he is the former child actor and the teen heartthrob she had a crush on. The two do not exactly hit it off when they first meet. Rachel is too funny, some of her dialogue is hilarious. Len came off a bit uptight and broody but things changed when the PTA had them working together for the school’s fundraiser. I loved how everything played out, there is never a dull moment in this book, with plenty of drama, some angst and great humor, some heartfelt moments and a slow burn start to romance. The author keeps you on your toes, wondering what is in Lennox’s past that he does not talk about, I think the cliffhanger ending gives some insight of that that may be. I am looking forward to the 2nd part of the “Heart Duet”, “Heartbreaker”, I hope it becomes available on Audible soon.
I listened to the Audible edition, Hannah Baker is a wonderful narrator and voice artist. She does an awesome job portraying the characters and bringing them to life. She gives each character their own voice and personality which makes it easy to follow them as she switches roles, which she does flawlessly. You could hear how much heart she puts into her work as she projects the characters emotions into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen
Ok, so I goofed. Do you know me? Do you know of my loathing for cliffhangers?! Well…when I found this book, I immediately knew I had to read it. I saw there was a book 2, that it was a “duet” but I either didn’t read the blurb of book 2 very closely or there wasn’t much to it yet because I’d convinced myself that it was more of a companion book as opposed to an actual continuation (I know, shame on me. But whatever gets you through the night *hehe* if you don’t recognize that line, just wait)
The first time I read the blurb for this book I thought of Luke Perry. This was before his death, before his stroke…but it made me think of him, his teen heartthrob image and him being my first actor/character crush…my first “book boyfriend” if you will, before I even knew what that was (my first crush ever goes to Donnie Wahlberg, but I digress)…
One of the things that drew me to this book was the fact that it made me think of Luke Perry. I mean, isn’t that the dream? You grow up, just so happen to meet your teen heartthrob crush and he falls in love with normal ole’ you? So I knew I had to read this.
I’ll admit, even tho Lennox had blonde hair, and when it was mentioned that he had blond hair, I kind of pictured him as a Paul Walker-esque, the predominant visual I had in my head was Dylan McKay. I just couldn’t help it.
I was entranced by this book. I want to say I couldn’t put it down, but that’s not entirely true. It’s not that it didn’t hold my attention, but there were a couple of points when something was going to happen, and I just KNEW what it was and it gave me anxiety and embarrassment for the characters and I just needed a break. At one point, I was reading before bed and KNEW what was going to happen on the next page and I literally put my kindle down and fell asleep because I just couldn’t handle going on at that moment. (yeah, this is why I don’t really do books with a lot of angst )
I loved the slow build of this book. I loved how Rachel and Lennox met. I loved how she kept putting her foot in her mouth and their battle of emails. It was all just perfect. I loved that their daughters were friends and that Rachel was determined to get over the weirdness and dislike for their kids. I loved that the friendship grew and yet, Rachel still couldn’t stop putting her foot in her mouth around Lennox.
Even though I loathe cliffhangers, I’m dying/looking forward to the next book. There were things hinted at in this book about Lennox’s past and you got a little info, but I can’t wait to read more. I can’t wait to find out everything.
I did see the blow up coming. I had a couple of theories going, but the actual thing that happened…that was my main theory and I KNEW it was coming. I didn’t expect the exact fall out but I was pretty proud of myself that I called it.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend this book.
I loved this book. The plot was great. This is the first book I have ever read by this author but I am definitely going to grab some of her other work!
it was amazing
Magan is a new to me Author and I am so glad I read this book
What a great book this was. It was fun. I loved Rachel that woman really is a work in progress and I loved seeing her blossom. From standing up to ex to trying to prove to the ex heartthrob that she has a good head on her shoulders.
I also loved Ariana starting off even in the 2nd grade as the new kid in school is never easy. BUT bam she started making friends with Junipter who happens to be the heartthrobs daughter. I hughly recommend this book
Lennox is a former teenage heartthrob who has put his troubled past behind him – he thinks – until Rachel, a divorced, single mom he is beginning a new relationship with, inadvertently stirs it all back up. I was completely wrapped up in this story and even though I knew it was book one of a duet, I wasn’t prepared for it to end so abruptly and at such an intriguing place! The writing is great in this romantic comedy. It’s laugh out loud funny in places and I totally embraced the fantasy of an every day woman finding romance with her heartthrob. I love the characters, not just Rachel and Lennox, but the kids, Amy, and Roo as well. Book one is told from Rachel’s POV and it appears book two will be from Lennox’s POV. I loved this story so far and can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It’s a dream come true to meet the guy that was on your wall as a teen, right…and at your daughter’s new school. The first meeting didn’t go off so well. It takes their young daughters to become besties and the, at first at little crazy, PTA President to put the two together to help benefit the school. Rachel is a little frazzled, but she is determined to get back to financial independence, and she’s a great mom to Ari. Lennox just wants to get past his teen idol status and be a good dad. He takes a liking to Rachel and her daughter. I like that as awkward as Rachel is, she starts coming into her own. There is a cliffhanger so if you aren’t into that, wait for the next book to read.
Rachel is a single mom just trying to do the best for, and be the best for her, daughter. Then she meets Lennox, a former child star, who shuns the spotlight now and has been living in peace with his own young daughter, when their two daughters bond in a way that has both their parents called into their private school. Yikes.
I gotta admit first, that I had no idea this was the first of a duet, so the cliffhanger surprised, and annoyed me. But it didn’t make me like this story any less. It’s fun seeing these two slowly get over their initial dislike of each other, become friends, and then more. And Rachel’s foot in mouth disease around Lennox was classic! So fun. I hated how things fell apart, but it felt pretty realistic, too. But now the cliffhanger has me all waiting impatiently for the conclusion. I hope it’s published soon!
Heartthrob is definitely more than a single parent romance, or a Hollywood romance. It is an escape that is low on unnecessary drama. It was so easy to feel the story and connect with the characters. Everyone had that actor/actress from their teens that they had the biggest crush on, and how many times did we dream about meeting then in real life and actually having a shot at a future with that person? Well, Vernon brought that fleeting dream to reality for Lennox and Rachel and it’s everything you would expect and more.
Lennox and Rachel are trying to do their best and raise their kids, only, things happen and these two find themselves being thrown together in ways they never thought would happen. The chemistry was so perfect between these two, the feelings Vernon makes us feel throughout the day book makes the cliffhanger worth it in the end. Don’t worry though we don’t have to wait too long to find out what happens. Grab Heartthrob now, trust me, you won’t regret it…even if you have to wait for these two to find their HEA.

This was a great read, I just loved the characters adults, children and the dogs! This is a bit of a slow burn to beginning with but once you get into it you will laugh, cringe and perhaps slap both Len and Rach but that’s what makes a book a great read! Be warned it is a cliffy but it just makes you want the next book now !!!!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Rachel is newly divorced and a single mom, having moved back with her parents and trying to raise her daughter in the best possible way.
When she needs to go to the principal’s office and find Lennox Reign, teen star over fifteen years ago and the boy she crushed on, things got interesting.
When they need to work together on the school bake sale, they were able to form a beautiful friendship, but both have things in their past that leave them hesitant to get to know each other better.
This book is very good and although it ends with a clifhanger, I really loved the story and the characters.
I’m anxious for the next book.
