All Robbie Fontaine ever wanted was a place to belong. After the death of his mother, he bounces around from pack to pack, forming temporary bonds to keep from turning feral. It’s enough—until he receives a summons from the wolf stronghold in Caswell, Maine.Life as the trusted second to Michelle Hughes—the Alpha of all—and the cherished friend of a gentle old witch teaches Robbie what it means to … it means to be pack, to have a home.
But when a mission from Michelle sends Robbie into the field, he finds himself questioning where he belongs and everything he’s been told. Whispers of traitorous wolves and wild magic abound—but who are the traitors and who the betrayed?
More than anything, Robbie hungers for answers, because one of those alleged traitors is Kelly Bennett—the wolf who may be his mate.
The truth has a way of coming out. And when it does, everything will shatter.

Why did I wait so long to read this one?? GAH! Klune pulls you right back in with his beautiful writing of werewolves and witches.
From the reviews I had seen of Heartsong I knew I would be confused for a time and even knowing that I kept having to think back and make sure I wasn’t completely forgetting what happened at the end of Ravensong. I didn’t, but it started out differently with a bit of a time gap since the last one and once pieces started coming together it all made sense.
So much as happened to the Bennett pack since the start of this journey and the tough times keep coming. The Bennett’s are fractured, and heartbroken because one of their members is no longer there. Just as you would expect they will not accept that, and they will stop at nothing to bring back one of their own.
There were several times through this story that I found myself crying over the emotions this family and pack were feeling. You felt for each wolf, witch and human that is a part of the Bennett pack and as the story goes on all you want is their family to be whole again. There were moments of humor from everyone, so it totally broke up the tense moments. Rico with his silly comments about “We are literally the gayest pack that has ever existed,” and even Carter coming in with his one liners to make you smile even when you think there is no hope.
After three books in the Green Creek series I have no idea how T.J. Klune can write something so beautiful, powerful, and heartfelt that will make you fall even more in love with the Bennett’s. With a touch of a cliffhanger Klune knows exactly how to leave you salivating for the next installment, which in this case will be the last. Brothersong will be the beginning of the end for this family and let’s hope we can finally celebrate in their HEA.
Why did this book just break my heart into a million pieces?
I’ll admit the first few chapters of the book were a bit rough. Mostly because I had no idea what was going on. I had no way to reference when we were and so it took a bit for me to fully get into the story. But when I finally got the idea of what was going on? Wow, wow, wow.
How can I put into words how much I love Kelly and Robbie? Kelly has had my love and attention since the first book, I couldn’t wait to see this asexual werewolf’s story. And Robbie, well, I didn’t dislike him, but he wasn’t a favorite either. But oh how that changed in this book.
I can admit this book wasn’t as action packed as the previous two, especially at the end. But I can enjoy a character driven book so that was okay. I won’t say much about the plot because spoiler! But oh my god, the plot ripped my heart out and made me want to bawl. I need to see Robert Livingstone die a painful death.
I was a but worried about the fact that this book followed an established couple, but of course I shouldn’t have worried. The relationship between these characters is so complex and evolving, and you could feel the rawness and uncertainty that followed this couple. I am a tiny bit sad we didn’t get to see the beginning of their love story, but that passed pretty quickly.
Gahh, I love all of these characters. The Bennett pack is filled with such different types of people. But the love they hold for each other is so overwhelming. We see a lot of changes to the pack in this book, some former humans are now werewolves, some new couples, etc. But I quickly remember why I love this group so much, and Rico of course has a special place in my heart.
And that ending! Carter’s story, and the conclusion, is next. I cannot wait!
This is another 5-star read, no question. Klune’s shifter world is absolutely mesmerizing.
But I wasn’t sucked into Heartsong as easily as I was with the first two. I had to work for it. The story didn’t really pick up for me until Robbie returned to Green Creek. The initial viewpoint, Robbie’s side of the story without the Bennetts, didn’t overly engage me. I’m sorry to say that I find Robbie the least interesting of the characters in the Bennett Pack, so I needed the rest of the gang in the picture before I could fully appreciate story. Because it’s their story I wanted. And Kelly’s.
Despite that though, I’m awed by Klune’s writing. It’s so understated, yet so full of emotion. I’ve never before encountered an author that can cram so much feeling in between the lines of the actual writing. There’s so much left unsaid which still couldn’t have been expressed clearer if someone had shouted it from the rooftops. That’s truly amazing.
So in short: Heartsong isn’t the best of the Green Creek books. But since the first two broke the 5-star scale, this is still a fabulous fiver. And I can’t wait to read the sequel in August!

This one broke my heart in the best possible way. Robbie – oh Robbie… I fell for you & I fell hard. You beautifully broken boy
And Kelly – well you gave me giant heart eyes. When these wolves love, they love hard. This one has a whole lot of action, but not a big leap in terms of the overall story. Special mention has to be made for the ending – my heart already needs book 4!
Robbie is a werewolf and he’s been changing packs since he lost his mother, he wants a place where he could belong, so he’s really grateful when he’s received in Michele’s pack until he discovers he has gaps in his memories and people he doesn’t remember talk about experiences he had that he doesn’t know anything about….
