Damaged Portland detective Archie Sheridan spent ten years tracking Gretchen Lowell, a beautiful serial killer, but in the end she was the one who caught him. Two years ago, Gretchen kidnapped Archie and tortured him for ten days, but instead of killing him, she mysteriously decided to let him go. She turned herself in, and now Gretchen has been locked away for the rest of her life, while Archie … Archie is in a prison of another kind—addicted to pain pills, unable to return to his old life, powerless to get those ten horrific days off his mind. Archie’s a different person, his estranged wife says, and he knows she’s right. He continues to visit Gretchen in prison once a week, saying that only he can get her to confess as to the whereabouts of more of her victims, but even he knows the truth—he can’t stay away.
When another killer begins snatching teenage girls off the streets of Portland, Archie has to pull himself together enough to lead the new task force investigating the murders. A hungry young newspaper reporter, Susan Ward, begins profiling Archie and the investigation, which sparks a deadly game between Archie, Susan, the new killer, and even Gretchen. They need to catch a killer, and maybe somehow then Archie can free himself from Gretchen, once and for all. Either way, Heartsick makes for one of the most extraordinary suspense debuts in recent memory.

Heartsick is one of the more disturbing mysteries I’ve read–and yet I couldn’t put it down!

Wow!!! This book was an awesome read and I will definitely be continuing on with the series!

The best thriller series I’ve read!
This was an awesome read
Love all her books and want more.
Chelsea Cain has a sick sense of humor.
Original premise, tight plot, wonderful characters, good writing. Gretchen Cole is a serial killer like no other
A great read. It is gruesome and almost unbelievable. Not for the faint of heart. I have found this to the best of her work
I am now a Chelsea Cain fan. What a fabulous read! Kept finding myself thinking about the characters as I went about my day just waiting until I could get back to reading more of Heartsick. Now I’m sad that it is finished, but have more to enjoy from MS. Cain.
If you like dark thrillers, Chelsea Cain is your girl.
I like Chelsea Cain…maybe because I live in Portland OR and the books are set there…they are original in that the “serial killer” is female and the detective that hunts her is so flawed…either way it is a good read even though they aren’t the kind of book I gravitate to…I have read them all and liked them very much
Excellent——page turner!
Totally had me on the edge of my seat!
A demented female serial killer, yes please!
Run! Gretchen! Run!
Really interesting take on this genre. The characters are so interesting and well thought out. I really want to read the whole series.
This book was one I couldn’t put down!I loved it! Characters were awesome! Everything about this book says 5 star to me!
Great series to get lost in
Loved this book and it’s subsequent series. Very dark and twisted tale but very good if you’re into that
