TOP PICK ROMANCE—Romance Times Book Review—“Julia Gabriel does an amazing job with this devastatingly heartbreaking love story.”
Becca never intended to come back to pretty little St. Caroline, Maryland and her family’s quilt shop. Growing up, she was the wild child … and the black sheep of the family … and the girl who couldn’t get anything right.
And she definitely never intended to see Jack Wolfe again. Those fifteen minutes she’d spent with him at a graduation party seven years ago? Unforgettable—for a whole lot of reasons.
Jack was the golden boy of St. Caroline. Smart, Ivy League-educated, law school-bound. He’s home from California for a family emergency, a situation that would not be improved by the news that he’s not the hotshot corporate attorney everyone thinks he is. If he can keep his real job a secret until the end of summer, he’ll still be golden and no one else will be the wiser.
But Becca has an even bigger secret of her own … one that will change Jack’s life forever …

“5 out of 5 stars!! For a majority of Becca’s life she has felt like she has never fit in (though some of it was her own doing) but she tried to make good choices for those around her most of the time. It all led her to keeping a huge secret from her family seven years ago. Now with her life in turmoil again she goes home to make amends. Yet the one person her “big secret” is all about, Jack, sets her life for another curve ball. Could everything finally be turning around for the better now? Or will fate decide to take away all of their options and throw them for a loop too?
Bare with me as I try not to give too much away. But oh my word!! In this novel you deal with loss (in quite a few different forms) while watching the characters deal with continuing on with their lives as their “worlds” fall apart around them. I know that might sound a bit overly dramatic for a contemporary romance novel but it’s what this novel portrays Becca and Jack going through.
This was a riveting tale that …”

This is my first book by this author. The story is so well written. Two young teens get together one night and then go their separate ways but circumstances bring them back together and secrets begin to be revealed. Their secrets involve 3 families going through their own drama and once all is revealed must come together as a unit. Well done.
Absolutely loved this book and certainly loved the ending!!!
Touching
This is a beautiful story about two young people who come home for different reasons and touch base with each other. A one night stand made her leave and he went off to college. His mom is dying so he is back, she came back because she needed family.
Very moving story line with a unique style I could not put this book down. I cried, I laughed, I was the character. The intertwining stories were equally as compelling. One of the best stories I have ever read.
An imperfect love and life’s story, just as life is. Jack and Becca made a terrible mistake seven years ago, she left St Caroline then and now she is back with no future ahead. Jack is back in town to say good aye to her mother who is dying from cancer. Jakeand Becca are both struggling with their future and start seeing each other but Becca has a secret that can bring them together or tear their apart. An emotional story about, love, loses and second chances in life. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily reviewed it. This is my honest review.
Another book it was amazing. Finished in one day.. who needs sleep. I loved it
If ever there was a love song that needed to be written, it would be the ballad of Jack and Becca. Hearts on Fire is that tale without the melody. Ms. Gabriel paints a picture of heartbreak and regret that will have readers reaching for the Kleenex. Becca tends to lead with her heart. She gives her all to those she loves, even if that means breaking herself in the process. Jack is the man who wants to be happy but keeps getting let down by the choices he makes and the obligations he faces. Descriptive dialogue guides this coming of age story of past mistakes and new beginnings.
4.5* Very well written and engaging story line. Life challenges and choices happen as characters learn to adjust and readjust. Lots of family development and added actions and interests to keep reader engaged. Angst to teary. Past grief weaves into a happy ending. Had a tiny bit in middle repetitive. Only God could weave this reality, it was a bit mind boggling.
Heart on Fire? If not ,God may Light one under the Caboose.
Becca has sex one time with Jack in high school. She left town immediately after. No one knows that she had a baby girl that she gave up for adoption. Seven years later, when she returns home, she sees Jack again. They start seeing each other. Out of the blue, Becca hears from the lady who had adopted her baby. She is dying and wants Becca to adopt her little girl back. How will Becca explain to Jack, her family, and his family? Will Jack forgive her for not telling him and give their love a chance?
Pregnant teen gives daughter up for adoption. She ended up back in her hometown at the same time as unsuspecting father. Through a series of events, they end up together with their daughter.
This book was a page turner. I didn’t want to put it down but had to see what would happen next.
I love the blend of loving family, quilting and feeling “drawn to be home”. It has that small town feel that keeps characters real.
One of the best books I have read. Totally involved with the characters and needed to take a breath and a break after reading.
Excellent book! I loved the characters, story and the entire book! A wonderful read!!!
It is a nice story how love can find a way
But my heart knew how it would end half way thru.
Really a great book with heartbreaking chapters. Amazing to think that one quick moment can change the trajectory of so many people’s lives. But, there is a HEA. Good romance
Loved this book! It was very emotional, made me laugh and cry. It’s a story of how your choices have a ripple effect on the all the people in your life. Great story.
