But Pete’s not the quiet guy he appears to be, and his life is anything but conducive to a relationship. AUDIOBOOK NOTE… Melissa Moran is a newer narrator to me but I am a huge fan of Addison Cole. With Addison Cole’s words and Melissa Moran’s voice this is the perfect audiobook. I could feel the story coming to life as I listened. The characters were real and their emotions came through in the words.
Sweet with Heat is the perfect description for this book. Jenna is hooked, for many many years on Pete. Pete is hooked on Jenna for just as long. Why haven’t they got together??? Jenna gets shy around Pete leaving him to believe he just might be too much for Jenna to handle. That sentence cannot be farther from the truth. They belong together. No doubts. No questions.
I loved how Jenna went after a construction worker to make Pete jealous. That construction worker ended up being sweet, attentive, smart, and almost perfect for Jenna. The only problem with Charlie is that he wasn’t Pete. For anyone else he would have been the perfect man. I liked that Addison Cole did not make Charlie a hunky, brainless, boring guy. She made him a guy that would be perfect for the Seaside Girls. All of that being said, I LOVE Pete’s reaction.
Both Jenna and Pete have known each other for what seems like forever yet there are things that they still have to learn about each other. Pete’s dad is a functioning alcoholic and he has been keeping that a secret from almost everyone. Opening up about that to Jenna was a tough scene, which was handled with so much care that I had no doubt that together Jenna and Pete could find the answer to save Pete’s dad and not make it an issue in their relationship. Jenna’s mom is also a “problem” but more like an embarrassment to Jenna. Jenna is worried that her mom will show up and embarrass her in front of Pete and the Seaside crew. By the end of the story I had no worries that they could handle anything thrown at them.
While each book in this series is a standalone story, it is fun to see the characters from previous books make appearance and catch up with what is happening in their lives. The next book is Amy’s story with Tony and I can’t wait!
This is romance at its best. The seaside girls are back. They are such an enjoyable group. They always make me wish that I could spend rhe summer with them. Jenna has wanted Pete for so long, but has been friend zoned by him, until he becomes jealous of her being with another man. There is definitely more to Pete than originally thought. This book has lots of laughter, mixed in with seriousness and “sweet with heat”. It has the romance and passion, but without the steamy, love scenes. Addison Cole has written a wonderful friends to lovers story with this book that pulls you right into it, and you don’t want to leave it. Each of the books in this series can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading them all in order, for your own enjoyment.
I read this book first, and then later listened to the audiobook. Melissa Moran has done an outstanding job with the narration. She has taken the words of Addison Cole, and brought them to life. I highy recommend this book, whatever format you want.
Jenna Ward has been drooling over the resident handyman for years. Pete Lacroux is a friend who always treats her with respect. Jenna desires a little less respect and more handling.
Pete has a secret he hasn’t shared which sometimes keeps him away from the fun everyone else is having. He feels he has responsibilities he can’t burden anyone else with. He doesn’t see how he can have a relationship at this point.
Is this a love story that won’t come together?
As in the previous books, I love the sense of family between all of the characters. This has been the most complicated couple to bring together so far. In every book the author reveals more of each character which makes the reader feel even closer to them.
This series is fun and sexy and an enjoyable escape from daily life. A vacation in book form!
Very good and keeps well to the storyline.
Hearts at Seaside is the sweet version of Seaside Hearts, and I have been longing to read Jenna & Pete’s story for a long time.
Jenna has had a crush on Pete for the past five summers that she he has been the maintenance pool guy at the Seaside Cottages, turns out Pete has felt the same way about Jenna but neither have made a move!
It isn’t until this summer that Jenna decides to “move” on from Pete and dates a hunky construction worker, this really riles up Pete and makes him jealous – I mean who wouldn’t be right? But Jenna is a contradiction to herself – she is such a strong, free spirit but she turn to mush when ever Pete is around and clams up, hardly saying two words to him, talk about mixed signals!
Pete is not without his own faults, he is trying to distance himself because of his father who has a problem with drink and in turn giving her mixed signals! Honestly these two need to be locked in a room and let all the pent up sexual tension out – and in fact that is near enough what happens, but done in a way that your granny could read it without blushing.
Addison has a way to make this sweet and steamy at the same time, and their is no denying that Pete and Jenna have chemistry. As with the other books you meet the other seaside girls who are just a right old hoot, and this can be easily be read as a stand alone.
