We thought we could make it.
We thought we’d been careful.

Our destruction.

Gah. The things Ella Fields can do to my heart continue to leave me breathless yet also content. Hearts and Thorns is a MUST READ and lives up to its long-awaited arrival!
Jackson and Willa’s story had me on the edge of my seat. I wasn’t sure when the ups and downs were going to happen, and when they did, I was clutching my heart the whole way through. The way Ella Fields lays out their story is so beautiful while also making sure the ugliness wasn’t brushed over. The full nitty-gritty details of what looms over these two are heart-wrenching and everything you’d expect from the queen of angst.
Just such an amazing way to start off the new year and a perfect read to get your heart racing.
5 Blossoming Stars
My poor heart wasn’t ready for Hearts and Thorns! Willa and Jackson took me on a heartbreaking journey that left me a tangled mess of emotions. There was so much emotion woven through every page that I felt that I was right there alongside them through every up and down along the way. I laughed, had butterflies, cried, raged, swooned and hoped. Both Willa and Jackson were honest, real and flawed which made me root all the harder for them. Their love story wasn’t easy and tissues were a must while reading Hearts and Thorns but their story held me captive and was everything I hoped for and more.
Hearts and Thorns by Ella Fields was one of my most anticipated reads of 2020, and how could it not be? Ella Fields is a motherfucking unicorn! No shit! The woman is magical! The level of angst in her books is unparalleled. She rips your heart out and beats you with it, punches you in the stomach, and stomps on your soul! If you don’t believe me, give one of her books a try, and you’ll see I speak the truth! She earned her “Queen of Angst” nickname honestly. If you’re not sweating, sobbing, cursing, contemplating throwing things, breaking shit, and ending lives, it’s not an Ella Fields novel!
I don’t know how she does it, but at this point, I suspect it’s impossible for this author to write a bad book. Every single story I’ve read from her has held me captive from the start. If one of her books is on my kindle, I know there’s a sleepless night ahead, and that’s exactly what happened this time. Willa and Jackson grabbed ahold of my heart and wouldn’t let go. The emotions I felt while reading this had me an absolute mess! I felt all the feelings! My chest hurt. My eyes welled with tears. I laughed, threatened murder, and swooned! Any book that can pull all of that out of you is a damn good one. Period.
Willa and Jackson’s love is beautiful, messy, complicated, and 100 percent meant to be. The fact that they’re brother and sister (though not by blood) makes their journey a particularly difficult one. It’s downright heartbreaking at times. My insides ached. I literally wanted to scream at the top of my lungs, but in the end, it was all worth it!
Hearts and Thorns is a must read for any fan of Ella Fields or angsty new adult romance! Get your tissues, your Kindle protectors, and your alcohol ready! It’s going to be a bumpy ride!
Omg!! Ella Fields has done it again. She has broken my head into millions of pieces, I didn’t know it las possible too. This story was so beautifully painful, it hurt, it healed and it sure made me wanna choke someone in the process.
From beginning to end I was lost in Willa and Jackson’s love, the struggle and pain, my god the pain, it hurt.
Ella Field sure knows how to write a story that will give you all the feels.
Highly recommend it! I’m still catching my breath from this one. I’m sure this review is vague, but the only thing I have to say is, you need this book, stepbrother, forbidden romance at its best!!
I stared my new year with a great read!!
6 forbidden stars!!
Hearts and Thorns is the third standalone in the Magnolia Cove series by Ella Fields and let me just say that it was ANGSTY as F*CK! This author has a unique ability to shatter your heart while at the same time filling it so deeply with love and hope.
Willa and Jackson’s story was destined to be complicated, but I had no idea all the heartbreak that these two would have to endure. Who knew that someone could experience so many emotions all at once. It felt as if my chest was on fire while I devoured every bittersweet word. That slow burn feeling was intense, it was an ache like no other. Ella Fields has left me completely speechless and I am still trying to process it all. This story was EVERYTHING I could have ever wanted for these two and I know that it couldn’t have been any better. My heartstrings will never be the same after reading this one and it was a fantastic edition to one of my favorite series.
Ella Fields captivated my soul wholeheartedly with this beautifully forbidden step-sibling romance. Willa and Jackson’s story is one that will have you questioning your sanity as you fall in love with them. This is hands down one of my all-time favorite reads and I am so excited to see what this year has to hold for this author! 2020 is going to be AMAZING for her…I can just feel it!
Hearts and Thorns by Ella Fields is the third novel in the Magnolia Cove series. I definitely recommend starting from the beginning of the series so you don’t miss out on anything!
Ella Fields once again reminds me why she is the Queen of Angst! She creates a story that is addictive and always unique. Hearts and Thorns is written to perfection. The author knows how to reach in and tug on my heartstrings, while crushing them with my next breath.
As always, I can’t wait to see where she takes her readers next!!!
Hearts and Thorns is an angsty YA romance that gave me all the feels, and I wholeheartedly loved it. Ella Fields is the master at drawing every single emotion out of you with the stories she delivers. Without fail, she obliterates my poor heart every time and then somehow makes it whole again. And she really knocked it out of the park with this one. I’m talking some serious teenage angst perfection right here. It was absolutely delicious and addicting!
Since childhood, Willa and Jackson Thorn have not only been step siblings but best friends as well. They shared a special bond and were practically inseparable. But over the years, their friendship began to shift as romantic feelings developed. Then one kiss… One single moment changed their lives forever.
These two were the perfect pair. I loved their playful banter, their ease with one another, and when they touched, it was absolutely electric. But then the inevitable happened and their secret was revealed. Their plan was destroyed and the two were ultimately forced to part. But after some time and distance, their paths crossed once again. Would those old feelings resurface or was everything over for good?
This book was absolutely amazing! Ella Fields held nothing back when she wrote Heart and Thorns. It was a rollercoaster ride full of angst, drama, jealousy, lies and betrayal. Oh my poor heart! This is in fact my new favorite Ella Fields book to date! All the stars and more for Willa and Jackson’s heartbreakingly beautiful love story!
This is book 3 in the Magnolia Cove series and it can certainly be enjoyed as a standalone.
This is Willa and Jackson Thorn’s story. Theirs was truly a heartfelt emotional story full of angst and turmoil.
Their longstanding relationship that led to much more was at time hard to read it was so emotional and so brutally raw.
The build up, the angst, the scandal misunderstandings, and then more angst.
If you read taboo, this story has elements that are predictable.
However, the genius of the story for me, was that these characters were not always likable and their misunderstandings and lack of insight led to more turmoil. For me that’s what made the story stand on its own.
When things started taking a different direction for them, I was so frustrated with their reactions, but you know that’s how it is in real life.
Relationships are messy and full of holes, and the goal is to either move on or work through them.
That’s what had me glued to this story… discovering how their story unfolded.
I feel like and i am pretty sure i say this every time i read a new Ella Fields book is OMFG WOW i have a new favourite book.
You tore my heart out with this book in a good way and i was at the edge of my seat the angst the rawness of these characters and what they go through of the relationship between them i just have no words but also the connection they share it felt like as i was reading i was sitting right there watching them the life they had and what they went through..
At times my heart broke for them both all the struggles they had along and what they put each other through just for them to love each other.
I cried lots i screamed at nothing and also wanted to throw my phone but honestly this book was everything i had ever hoped it would be and more <3
Ella Fields is evil. She might look sweet with her cute social media posts, but with no doubt, her biggest hobby is to break-crush-smash her readers hearts!!!
Nothing could prepare me for all the crying, the ache in my stomach and the sound of my heart *literally* breaking because of this book.

“ ,” . “ , ’ ’ .”
Willa and Jackson Thorn are step siblings who have always shared a special bond – but over the years, the dynamics changed and their relationship became so much more than friendship…
Although they have no blood relation, they grew up together in the same house since they were children – and that made their great love into a forbidden and a very dirty secret.
“ ’ , ’ .”
I’m not going to lie and say this book was easy to read, because it’s definitely NOT. It felt like someone punched me in the stomach – and I often had to stop and just breath… There were also moments I wondered myself if they should be together – but deep down I wished everything will work out for them.
This story will mess with your head and will make you think about what is right and what is wrong… what is allowed and what is forbidden… And what wars are worth fighting for!
Willa and Jackson were perfect for one another, but their love was destructive… They made so many mistakes and caused so much pain.
And their parents…? Oh my god, my heart was crushed because of their selfish choices, lies and secrets.
” , .”
I have to point out that their feud reminded me a of Ross and Rachel’s famous fight (“We were on a break!” LOL). Jackson was often so cruel to Willa, that sometimes I wondered if he really loved her. (he did, trust me!)
Ella is the queen of angst and heartache – but I’m always coming back for more…
So get your Kleenex ready, a glass of wine – and prepare to fall in love (eventually. HAHA)
OMG what a great story. This book was amazing and I literally can‘t describe it.
Both characters where so well written and you just had to feel for both sides so much. I loved how the book was split into two parts, past and present. The idea of the story was unique and I haven‘t read anything lile it before. It easily is one of my favorite stepbrother/enemies-to-lovers romance I‘ve read in a while.
The writing of the Author was so fluently and easy to read in one sitting and you just had to know how everything goes with the two characters. Willa and Jackson are soulmates through and through and I just loved their story even with all the ups and downs that had my heart crying for both of them.
Well deserved 5 stars!
Did the story made your head spinning? I did. Ella had written some of the beautiful stories I have read so far. Hearts and Thorns were so good with twisting emotions. This step-romance had lot of layers to play with the heavy angst and personal feelings. She wrote the young love with passion and no pretense. That’s made it real like a daylight. I love that Jackson and Will fought it so fiercely. The emotions were raw and it was where it should be. Well, they fought the good fight..
Absolute cracker of a five star read!!!!!
A fabulously taboo story full of heartbreak, betrayal and oh soooo much angst.
“I hate you because I could never actually hate you, and that makes me hate you so much.”
Join willa and Jackson as they navigate the story of life from childhood to adulthood in a fantastic gripping tale of love that should never be ,of heartbreak born out of betrayal that wasn’t even there , yep you read that right once you read it you’ll know what i mean!!
I was glued to the pages of this book living and breathing these characters and hoping and praying they got to the finish line in one piece .this book draws out every emotion possible I felt like throwing my kindle many of times I was screaming at both Jackson and willa ( more jackson the idiot) and needed to bang both heads together on more than one occasion, I cried and I laughed and then after the emotional rollercoaster with the lies and revelations when I closed the final page of this phenomenal story I smiled a contented smile.
One word……..perfection!!!!
4.5 stars
“For that was what we were doing, speaking a different language. A language that tasted of disaster and sin but felt like promise and perfection.”
The queen of angst is back again! Whereas I didn’t feel the angst so much in her last two or three books, you can only imagine how happy I was finally feeling this knot in my stomach again.
Always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Not knowing how things will turn out, breaking my heart over and over again.
“We were fire that would never extinguish, and we’d burn anything in our path to keep getting what we wanted. What we needed.”
I loved how Ella Fields laid out the story. Following two kids caring for each other, growing up together and discovering their true feelings for each other.
And she perfectly played the age cards. The kids acted as kids, the teenager acted like true teenagers would. Everything was down to earth, nothing fancy and truly believable.
“Heartbreak and peril had never tasted so sweet.”
Willa and Jackson are such a wonderful couple. Through all their years together they formed a unique bound. They were simply meant to be. But they also had to learn a lot, they had a lot growing up to do.
They both made mistakes, mistakes you make as a kid and a teenager. That’s all part of growing up. So their story feels true and real.
“…but there is no one else I’d rather be imperfect with.”
The way the story is told and the way it unfolds is spellbinding. Due to Ella’s immense writing skills, she makes you easily fall in love with her characters. She binds your heart to them so that you have no choice but to follow this train of heartbreaks. But it’s so worth it!
“We weren’t only soul mates. We were stitched at the seams, unable to part without losing fragments of ourselves.”
Hearts and Thorns is another masterpiece by Ella Fields. If you are up for a train ride of broken hearts, this one is for you!
What a phenomenal story. I’ve been waiting what feels like forever to get my hands on Willa and Jackson’s book. It checks so many of my reader boxes, I just knew it was going to be my favorite in the series and I was not disappointed. The angst, the drama, the passion and pain and heartache… this book is unlike any other I’ve ever picked up. It’s a haunting and wondrous story of two people whose souls blaze for one another despite all the odds stacked against them.
Let’s be honest, one of the things that makes Will and Jack’s love story so different and unique is that their entire lives and all their best memories are so intricately wrapped up in one another. There is, without a doubt, nobody that knows either one of them better. It’s both fascinating and debilitating, because once they cross that forbidden line they are risking absolutely everything in hopes of finding real happiness. The risk is astronomical and yet, it’s worth it to both of them. It’s all worth it because they know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they’re soulmates.
I can’t begin to describe the wide range of emotions that the author put me through while reading this book. I was elated, joyful, hopeful, completely turned on, shocked, bereft, heartsick and depressed. I laughed, I cried, I felt actual butterflies. This story felt tangible, it felt so real and punishing that it pulled me and held me hostage. I read the entire book in one sitting with zero regrets. This is, easily, one of Ella’s best books to date. Despite the possible ‘taboo’ connotations (or perhaps because of it), this one is a revolutionary winner. It breaks molds, it asks hard questions and it demands your attention. Do yourself a favor and get this book now.
First book of 2020 didn’t disappoint! Ella Fields is one of my favorite authors for a reason! She knows how to give a reader all the feels and an emotional roller coaster of a read. This is book 3, but could easily be read as a stand alone. However, I’ve read the otter 2 books and they’re amazing so don’t skip them!!! You will love Willa and Jackson’s story. Forbidden love at its best!
I’m going to need everyone to pick this book up and let Ella fucking Fields ravage your heart and soul with Willa and Jackson’s story! LOVED IT!!!
This is Ella Fields at her best! I fell in love with this group from the first book and each book just gets better and better. I didn’t think I would love another couple more than Lars and Daphne and once again I am proven wrong. Willa and Jackson’s story is edgy, full of angst and so much heart. What do you do when your best friend your one constant becomes more but you have to hide your feelings from everyone especially your parents. There are so many secrets and betrayals in this book that I was at the edge of my seat. I thought I was going to have a heart attack at the end of part 1. The way that Ella brought these two full circle is nothing short of amazing and I was rooting for Willa and Jackson till the very end. I’m just sad that there isn’t more of their story. This was an anticipated read for me and it was worth the all nighter I did staying up reading this book.
And once again this author has taken my heart and shredded it more times than I can count in one book and then put me all back together. The magic in her words with this story of Willa and Jackson will pull so hard on your heart strings (if it doesn’t I question if you have a heart haha). I think what I enjoyed the most is the progression of the story and how it started when they were young and we were taken along as it progressed, Truly these characters had so many feels that left me in tears and wishing and hoping they could find their way back from their stubborness.
Dang this book was so emotional and had so many twists that you never see coming. Jackson and Willa made me cry so much but damn if their ending wasn’t just as happy as the others. All the stuff they went through to get to that point made them soo much more!!!
