Two blue lines. That means not pregnant, right? Right? Oh, sh*t.
Five years ago, Colm Frost asked me to marry him and I ran. I ran from my painful past too raw and fresh to escape. He was the only one who looked at me like I wasn’t broken and made me believe it. He made me feel it.
Now, he’s the hot, angry, hockey player on the mend.
I’m the physiotherapist who’s supposed to get him back on … the physiotherapist who’s supposed to get him back on his feet.
I don’t think our night together was what his doctor prescribed, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t dreamt of him every time I close my eyes. I woke up beside him with my body still singing from the way he fanned the flames of my desire, but I couldn’t stay.
His lips on my neck. His hands wrapped around my waist. His impressive…ahem, touch leaving me breathless.
One moment of wild inhibition and it’s come back to bite me in the butt. Kind of like he did that night.
But a baby? Our night was supposed to be a one time thing, closing a door on the future I couldn’t handle.
Will this new bump in the road be everything we needed to find our forever?
Heartless King is a standalone friends to enemies to lovers, accidental pregnancy romance that brings all the laugh out loud, angsty feels!

Sad to see this series end but what a way to go this edition has a gorgeous angry man seeking pay back or at least a little traveling from a woman who so easily turned her back on forever with him but what he didn’t realise that there was so much more to the story and what a great heart wrenching mess it was however it did make a great read that wouldve loved more of
Beautiful… absolutely beautiful. This is a story i’ve waited a long time for and can’t believe I actually read. The final book of one of my favorite series. To say I loved this book is an understatement, the tears wont stop flooding lmao. After all the waiting, colm’s book is finally here and he’s here with the beautiful Imogen. I was so intrigued about him because you could see some of his pain in fearless king but the way this book shows his raw pain is another level. I’m really glad I got to be inside his mind to understand him better and see everything he’s been carrying since he was younger and what his current situation is doing to him to make him act the way he does in Liv and Ford’s book. Yeah, I wanted to kill him sometimes but I loved him nonetheless. Then, we have Imogen, a girl who you get to see a little in the other books and I was so excited to get to know her because of everything she went through. She is a lovely character and of course it’s hard seeing everything she carries since preston’s death but it’s also amazing to see her move on and live a new life. Seeing them get their own happy ending fills my heart with love. Yes the both of them had their own demons and it was hard for them to let each other inside their hearts but once they do you can see how much sense they make together and how beautiful it is when people actually allow themselves the possibility of happiness and love.
I’ve always loved Maya’s books but this one really hit me hard. Her books are always fun and easy to read and this one isn’t an exception. I think she did an amazing job at portraying them and even though of course i suffered a little bit while reading the hard parts, she brought an amazing ending not only to Colm and Imo but also to the kings and queens of rittenhouse.
Overall, I think Maya did an amazing job, I hope everyone loves this book as much as I did. I didn’t expect any less and I feel honored to have the opportunity to experience this book early and have to pleasure to write this review. She not only wrote a beautiful story showing an amazing group of friends that are a family but also teaches you how short life really is and how important is to live in the present and don’t let fear stop you from doing what your heart wants.
5 STARS
Maya Hughes got me in the feels with this book. Imogen and Colm somehow find themselves there for each other in their time of need. You can feel that their connection reaches a deeper level. I loved every word. I highly recommend this sweet and heartfelt book, it truly is an EPIC read. Heartless King by Maya Hughes will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
Maya Hughes brings her Kings of Rittenhouse series to an end with Colm’s story. I have been looking forward to his book ever since I read the series prequel.
Life hasn’t been easy for Colm. He took care of his sister after their parents passed away and he has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. An injury brings a woman from his past back into his life. After one night together an unexpected pregnancy links them together and makes their future uncertain.
I found myself almost speed reading through this book because I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. The writing and storytelling only got stronger as the series progressed. That paired with how much I loved Colm has made this my favorite Kings book.
This could be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the books in order so you can get to know the entire crew. Especially as you get to see appearances by them here.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
I absolutely loved reading Heartless King by Maya Hughes. Though I am not sure my heart feels the same. This story was emotional, touching and captivating. It was a story that had a bit of it all, second chances, friends to lovers and a bit surprise! I have to say though I am slowly making my way through this series, I have not yet read all the books that came prior yet, even so, I can say I enjoyed it as a standalone and am looking forward to reading the rest of the books
Colm Frost is a bit lost right now and spiraling. But his teammates are ready to step in and help. Enter Imogen. Their story was not an easy one and will definitely make you feel every bit of it, the good, the bad and the ugly, but it was so worth the journey. I loved both characters so much. They were perfect for each other, though they struggled a bit to find their way together. A definite must-read!
Happy reading!
Yes Colm Yes! I loved his story. I wanted him to have a happily ever after since I finished Fearless King. Colm is hurting and angry after his sister and best friend betrayed him. While angry at the world his vision is blurry and not sure what his next steps are. I loved Colm’s story. This book is full of emotions that tugged at my heart. This story is full of new beginnings and forgiveness and a perfect story for Colm’s HEA!!
This book is absolutely the perfect ending to the Kings. Of course we know with Maya Hughes that although it will be their last full book we will hear their names in the future.
The future is what this book is all about. The future Colm needs, the one he’s been trying to deny himself since the night his parents died.
This book will run you threw the ringer of raw emotions. Of what lengths guilt, sadness, loneliness and pain will drive you too. All while reminding you what true family is that no matter how hard you push, how hurtful you are, true family and friendship will weather the storm and the hurt.
You’ll get all the answers you need as well, will Colm play hockey, will he and Liv repair their bond, are he and Ford able to repair their friendship??? Will he find his happiness and be able to hold on to it. Well let me say you will not be disappointed at all when you read this book. I honestly can’t express how completely happy and satisfied I feel by this book it truly is perfection.

I can hardly believe we have reached the end of the Kings of Rittenhouse series. I am so glad that Maya Hughes gave Colm a story of his own and also closure for Imo. They had shared a moment five years earlier when Imo was at low in her life, suffering loss once again. They shared so much pain in their young lives. Fast forward to a chance meeting in a bar and once again these two are thrown together again or should I say they are pulled together again like magnets. You will share their laughter and pain as their love affair is not an easy one. The past seems to creep up and thwart their love at every turn. I hope that we will see glimpses of these characters in future books. It will be hard to say goodbye for good.

I’m new to Maya and all I keep asking myself it – “what took me so long to find her books”? This was my first in this series and I did not feel lost one bit. This book was amazing and I can’t wait to read them all! I loved Colm and Imo so much. These two have a history. We get it all – the backstories, their feelings, and their growth. They both were dealing with a lot, but when push comes to shove they were able to work through it. I could not get enough of this beautiful, emotional rollercoaster of a story and never wanted it to end!!!
This story was a huge roller coaster of emotions. Just when you think you know what’s going to happen, BAM! Wrong!! One of my favorite lines was:
“You can’t live your life afraid of what you might lose, because then you’ll never embrace everything you have to gain, and those are the memories that make it worth it.”
4.5/5 Stars
I can always count on Maya Hughes to deliver truly exceptional stories time and time again. I can now add this one to the list of her books that have swept me off my feet.
Heartless King is book five in the Kings of Rittenhouse series. Each of the books in this series can be read as standalones. I admit, this is the first and only book from this series that I have read. That being said, I also admit that I was having trouble piecing things together at the start of the story. I was unfamiliar with the characters and situations from the previous books so a lot of things went over my head in the beginning. It all smoothes out and gets better eventually but it was a rough start in that respect.
One of the things that I have always loved about Hughes’ books is her incredible storytelling. I don’t know how she does it but her narration is always stunning. It is always smooth and flows naturally. I am always taken in by her writing style. The plot of this book was entertaining and emotional. The story absolutely captivated me. I couldn’t put the book down to save my life.
I really admired and fell for these characters. Both of the main characters, Colm and Imogen, were hurting on the inside and dealing with personal traumas. They both were trying to come to terms with losses in their lives. In the end, they both have to decide how they want to live their lives. They have to try and overcome the things from their pasts and stop living in their pasts. Both of them had a lot of depth and fantastic character development. The secondary characters were also fantastic, once I was able to pin them all down. I did love seeing characters from the Fulton U series mentioned in the story.
The romance in the story was hot but it was also very emotional at times. Both Colm and Imogen are characters with bruised hearts that have been placed in each other’s paths. They find something in each other that no one else can give them. In a sense, they help each other heal those bruises. The connection that they had felt very natural and undeniable. I did feel like Colm was a little clingy in his thoughts about Imogen at times. They aren’t even really dating and he is checking out wedding rings at one point. In the end, I think that it was just part of his character.
Overall, this is a story that will ultimately put a smile on your face. It has a compelling plot, plenty of heat, wonderfully developed characters, and a writing style that begs to be read. I will definitely be going back to read all of the other books from this series and I can’t wait to read what’s next from this author!
I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.
Wow! Talk about going out with a bang. I can’t imagine a better way to finish up this series than with Colm’s story. Well, there’s another side to that story, but if you’ve been following from the beginning, I don’t want to spoil it. On that note, I’ll just say that this one is probably the most emotional of the series. It’s also filled with great chemistry, some sexy fun, an unexpected pregnancy, and all the feels that go along with it. Maya Hughes is great at giving us another part of this continuing story while still maintaining a standalone story. That’s not an easy feat, but she accomplishes it quite well. So, for those who have followed along, we get to revisit past series favorites while also getting to fall for a new couple, and for those unfamiliar with the Kings, you get to meet a whole group of terrific characters that you’ll want to know more about. This final book in the series is everything I expect from this author and this series. It’s engaging and swoony and impossible to put down.
“Who better than another broken person to look through the cracks in the armor he wore?
Who better to make me feel something I hadn’t let myself feel in a long time?
Alive.”
Holy heck, they are SO SOFT. This book made my emotions jump around almost as much as Colm’s. He and his heroine made me ugly cry and feel all warm inside.
I will not reveal who Colm’s love interest is so you can be surprised on release day, but you just need to know that they’re both such amazing characters and they both deserved all the happiness in the world and I’m glad they got it.
This being the last book in the Kings of Rittenhouse series made this such a bittersweet read because I am so sad to see these characters go but it was so wonderful seeing them all together. I think more than the other books in the series, this one shows just how strong the bond between the kings is and it was so emotional seeing them all jump through hoops and doing anything for one another. They’re all one big happy family and it is beautiful.
Colm and his girl definitely serve mutual healing trope on a platter, and it is delicious. They both have so much going on inside, and to see them help each other move past it and become stronger in the end was so beautiful. As far as characterization, I was so happy with it. Colm is a really emotional guy, and for the most part he has no problem showing it, which is such a pleasant surprise because we don’t really get to see that a lot in romance. Yes, Colm is pretty “heartless” towards the people around him at first, but to be able to see inside his head and see that his anger and overall rottenness is just to cover all the overwhelming feelings he’s experiencing – oof. I have no idea how to explain how it made me feel. I fell for Colm so fast getting to be inside his head and knowing how his brain works. As for Colm’s lovely leading lady, she is strong and has overcame so much and I loved her right from the start. Seeing them come together made me so happy.
I have so many feelings, but there is only so much I can say without spoiling anything (or crying some more). The characters are wonderful, the story is interesting, and I loved it so much.
We couldnt have gotten a better final book for this series! Colm and Imogen are to people who have lost so much in the world and when these two come together there are sparks in the air. Both afraid of a type of lose they keep eachother at arms length Imogen more than Colm but when she finds out shes pregnant Colm is all in. An absolutely beautiful love story with many trials of life thrown in the way! I will miss this world!
Gah! Heartless King is another fantastic addition to the Kings of Rittenhouse series. I simply cannot get enough of these sexy hockey players and the charming girls who are their perfect match. This story was sweet, swoon worthy, steamy and an utterly endearing page-turner. From the very first chapter this book reeled me in and never once let me go.
Colm has always been the responsible one. When his parents passed away, he took on the task of raising his younger sister. But in order to give her the best possible life, he had to sacrifice so much of himself. So when some truths come to light, he is angry, feels betrayed and completely goes off the rails. On top of that, he is nursing an injury that has left him unable to play with his team. Enter Imogen. She is the physiotherapist hired to help him get back on track. Not only that, she just so happens to be the girl that he’s crushed on for years. After a one-night stand and a positive pregnancy test, this is where things really heat up.
Heartless King is the perfect ending to an amazing series. Colm and Imogen were two broken people who found exactly what they needed in each others arms. It was a trying journey at times, but beautiful just the same. If you haven’t started this series yet, then you need to go and one-click now. Each and every one of these books were steamy and packed with all the feels. Five stars for Colm, Imogen and Heartless Kings!
There’s no better way to end the Kings of Rittenhouse Series than with Colm Frost! This story had every single emotion thrown in that you could think of! Colm is struggling, REALLY struggling in this book and it broke my heart. Colm and (I’m not giving that away) hit it off but then there are so many misunderstandings and issues in their pasts that prevent a future for the two of them. I felt every single emotion between them. Also, seeing the rest of the Kings step into the family role and show their unconditional love had my heart! The last book in a series is always the hardest and Maya Hughes did an amazing job closing out this chapter of the Kings. I highly recommend the ENTIRE series!
I can’t believe this series is over. I’m so sad and I felt like I’ve been reading about these boys for years. Colm and Imo’s story was the perfect story to bring it all to an end. Colm showed so much growth and change from the past books and it was nice to see him get his happy ever after. I relate so much to his fear of doing things we’ve done before an injury and now having to do them puts me through so many emotions and it was amazing to see them in a book as well. Imo was great I loved her and her backstory made her story that much better. Imo and Colm had to work through a lot of issues before they could be together and I loved reading their story. While I never like the ending to a series, this book was a near-perfect ending
{I recieved this as an ARC in exchange for an Honest review}
This book has my heart. I read this book in one sitting and I wish I read it slower because I never want it to be over. This is the last book in the “Kings Of Rittenhouse” series and it was everything I wanted and so much more. From the first page my heart was beating out of my chest. This book is heartbreaking with heartbroken characters and it’s so beautiful. Colm and Imo have been through so much in their lives. They don’t let it stop them though. Imo is an incredible character. She spends her life helping others and I loved that about her. Colm is stubborn but he wears his heart on his sleeve. He needs help but won’t admitted and it takes Imo to kick his butt into gear. Together they are electric. God these two have an undeniable connection. They make so much sense together. I love them. I love the fight they bring and I love the life they bring to each other. This book will consume you. These characters go through so many highs and lows and you are right there with them. It is incredible. Their chemistry is insane. Seriously this book is SEXY. I love them and this book so much. It is emotional and sexy and filled with the best kind of family. I adored this story and I am so happy with how it all played out and how it ended. This is an epic finally. You are going to love it, I know I do.
P.S. I am DYING to have this book in my hands. As soon as the paperback goes live I am buying it. I HAVE to have this book on my shelf.
Rate: 4,5 / 5 stars
The last king is here. This moment could not be more bittersweet. It’s been a long time coming and I wanted Colm’s story but boy oh boy I’m not ready to say goodbye to these 5 amazing men *cries*. They are what introduced me to Maya and made me fall in love with her words so they’ll always be super special to me and I cannot believe this series is over oh my gosh. It makes me sad to think I won’t get more of my kings.
Having said that this book was amazingg! I was so excited to get inside Colm’s head and see what was going on there and damn he was going through so much my poor baby. I mean I still think he was being a jerk with his sister and Colm but with everything that was going on in his life, he had the right to be a jerk and break down for a while. My heart hurt for him and all that happened and he was still feeling responsible for.
From the blurb I was so curious about the proposal moment… boy there was plenty of history between these two that I had no idea about but it made so much sense, they made so much sense *sigh*. It’s kind of impossible to write this review and not give the heroine away so if you want to read this book without knowing who she is, stop reading here.
This book was quite angsty and emotional. With everything Colm was going through, then the night he spent with Imo and how she left him and everything that came after… and also dealing with Imo and Preston gosh it was an emotional doozy at times. Having read this whole series and knowing exactly what happened before and how it affected these characters, it was even more emotional for me. I felt really bad for Imo too and how hanging out with the Kings made her feel, only Colm saw her as her own person. She already felt bad enough on her own and like she couldn’t move on… seeing her struggle with it still and after all these years was hard but understandable, Preston had been her first love and losing him broke her.
Both Colm and Imogen were a little broken and even in the midst of all their messes and miscommunication, they made each other whole. They worked and were so darn cute. Their relationship was a bit of mess, there were a lot of set backs along the way but they worked through their issues and were ready to start their family and what an adorable one it was.
Heartless King made me all kinds of emotional. The Kings came full cirlce. Once again they proved each other than no one and nothing could break their family, they are always there for each other no matter what. Their friendship is such a beautiful thing. In this book they were all there for Colm no matter how much of a jerk he was being. They never gave up on him and helped him get back on his feet. It felt like the perfect way to end a series centered on this team that no matter what, through all the years, all the heartache, all the sucesses and failures stayed together, remained a tight knit family. I’m sad to see them go but so happy that I got to spend all this time with these amazing characters. They are a group I will never forg
