Truth or promises? Truth: the angst in the book will drive you crazy (in a good way). Theo and Abby go from love to hate to love to hate. They definitely didn’t lack chemistry. Promise: you will love this emotional ride.
Theo, lord I wanted to hate you, wanted to slap you, then I found myself falling for your weird kind of charm and loving you all at the same time. This author wrote one amazing jerk who made the heroines life a living hell. The twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat the whole time wanting to see if Theo would switch gears and finally become a little less of a jerk or if Abigail would stop being a train wreck. I did feel so bad for Abigail, yes she was the black sheep of her family and yes she acted out and did things she shouldn’t have, but her family were all kinds of messed up and pompous jerks that treated her horribly. So, when Theo started treating her awful I was like dang this chick needs a break, Theo and Abigail had a hate/love and all of these things happen for a reason, but it was still so hard to watch it unfold. I knew it was a great read when I wanted to throw the book and then gentle caress it, my emotions were everywhere. I don’t want to give too much away but you love having a hero that is a complete jerk, yet you love him anyways this is your story. It’s beautiful, tragic, heartbreaking, and amazing. The author wrote a great story of hate, love, and redemption.
Crap I thought this was a story of a spoiled bratty rich girl that gets straightened out by a mean body guard and they fall madly in love happily ever after. Boy was I wrong.
Yes this is a story of a bratty rich girl.Yes she has a mean, jerk of a body guard. He terrorizes her, cruel to her but there is a reason why. He’s trying to get back at her, trying to make her pay for what she did to him.
Abbigail also wants nothing to do with Theo. He hurt her bad. She also had a very hard life growing up rich with a mother who sees her as a failure. Abigail is the black sheep of the family but it doesn’t matter. She always a failure in her familys eyes. She tries to be good, but circumstances always points to her. Her grandfather was her rock but Theo screws that up. Now she has to do the right thing. Or does she?
I couldn’t put this book down, brushing teeth, reading, eating breakfast, reading, exercising and reading.
Holy cow the steaminess is scorching hot! A definite 10. This book is a 10! I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
This book seriously gives enemies-to-lovers whole new definition, it just blown me away! It was super hot, very emotional and very well-written. I couldn’t get enough of Abby and Theo.
The angst between Abby and Theo is real. Abby, the Reject Princess of the family, who is viewed as shallow, spoiled brat who brings nothing but shame to her family. But there’s so much more to her than meets the eye. Discovering who she really is underneath all her layers throughout the book was an experience. And Theo, oh my…I really wanted to hate him at first but it was easy to tell that not even shadows from the past can stop his true feelings coming to the surface.
The storyline was well-thought through, Mary paid a great attention to details and I loved how she involved the secondary characters. Overall it was a full mind-blowing 5 stars!
This was my first read by Mary Catherine Gebhard and she did not disappoint! It was a captivating enemies-to-lovers romance that had me gobbling up pages as quick as I could turn them! The chemistry between the hero and heroine was off the charts! I loved the constant push and pull. Definitely recommend! Five HOT HERO Stars!
Are you a lover of Bully Romance? Heartless Hero the latest novel by Mary Catherine Gebhard is an enemies to lovers, bully, second change trope all rolled in one story and you will love it. This story was angst filled, steamy, emotional and will have you hooked from beginning to end. Abigail and Theo were two complex characters who will grab your attention and not let it go with the tension, the chemistry and the push and pull between them. Filled with love, hate, passion, friendship and heartache, there’s mystery, stalking, family drama, twists and turns and so much more. This was a fantastic read and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of bully romance.
The story of the Princess and the Pauper. Abigail the tarnished imperfect princess, Theo the loyal, trusty dog that was always around. Sometimes the ones that know you the most, hurt you the most. This is a story of learning your won truths and boundaries. All Abigail wanted was to be loved and accepted and it would take the one person as broken as she to finally realize her worth. They say there is a fine line between love and hate, Abby and Theo dance along the edge of that blade time and time again both getting cuts when they slip until they both own up to how they feel and take a chance for their happiness.
“My perfect contradiction.” ~ Theo
I freaking LOVE this book! The angst, the emotions, the chemistry between Theo and Abigail is OFF. THE. CHARTS. I could not put this book down.
Even though they come from different worlds, you know these two are destined to be together. But Abigail’s family believes otherwise.
If you love bully romances, this book is a must read!
Rate: 3.5/ 5 stars
Heartless Hero is a hot bully/bodyguard romance but it had a lot of questioning points. I guess you could say I had love/hate relationship with these two and their “relationship”. Although I was rooting for them from the get go and hoped like hell they’d get their sh*t together and choose one another over everything else, well… the way they acted towards one another sometimes had me feeling some type of way. Theo was just too darn much of a cruel ahole. Some of the things he did and said…even when it was for Abigail’s ‘own good’ just nope, nope, nope. And Abigail what the hell… the things she let him do to her… girl no no no, just please no. There was so much wrong with these two and how it all happpened yet somehow, it worked for them. They fought and found their happy ending, after much crazyness and turmoil.
Abigail needed balls all throughout the book, and it made me both sad and a little proud when she finally grew some by the end of the book. I hated how she let everyone treat her, including Theo and he was the most preocupying. I am all for an ahole hero, a bully hero whatever you wanna call it… BUT Theo was too much sometimes. Some of the things he did and said to Abigail made me cringe and I was totally not okay with most of it. So yeah, me and this book… totally a love/hate relationship. There were bits I liked, some even loved but there were also too many that I severly disliked.
One thing is for sure, this book has major hotness levels… I mean some of their sex scenes were scalding *fans self* and the writing is phenomenal despite all the questionable things in their relationship. So despite this not having been a complete winner in my book, I am excited to see how the next books in this world are going to be. I mean, I hated Abigail’s siblings througout the majority of HH but I can’t help but be curious about them and see just how much of a heart they can both grow ahah. I am also excited to read some of Mary Catherine’s other books, mainly Skater Boy cuz I have put it off plenty.
I this book! 5 stars
This is my first time reading this author, and her writing drew me in right from the beginning. In the first few chapters, my heart ached and broke for Abigail. In later chapters, it shattered, & I felt her pain through the pages. Theo intrigued me & infuriated me, but then he made me swoon! I was curious what happened between them in the past, and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out how their whole story would unfold. I was captivated by this author’s words, the story she wove and the emotions her words brought out in me. I this book & highly recommend it!
I received a copy of this ebook from Candi Kane PR for my honest review.
Son of a mother fucking bitch.
Alright, I’ll say this right now… This review isn’t going to be censored… AT ALL. So be warned that I may curse…
I don’t know where the fuck to start with this review… Mary, what have you done? My heart, my emotions, my fucking head… It’s a mess and it’s YOUR fault.
How to put this into words, and make it spoiler-free? Fuckkkkkkk…
Well, here goes…
Theo was an asshole… He was ruthless, he was rough, he was HEARTLESS… But there were so many levels to this guy. Heartless? Yes. Broken? Yes… An asshole? Fuck yes. At times I wanted to reach in the book and punch him in the face… Like more times than I can count. He was a bully… But he had compassion, not always noticeable but it was there deep down and that dirty mouth? H. O. T. Oh so hot! Mix all this into one character and Theo is who you get. He was perfect. I am a sucker for an asshole alpha and he ticked all the right boxes for me… But I will admit… Even I was shocked some of the stuff he did to Abigail and said.
Abigail? She was the black sheep, the reject, the unlovable daughter, the odd one out and fuck at the beginning I wanted to slap her HARD. She went out of her way to stir shit up for people. She lit the flame and watched it burn like it was some kind of sport… But as I dived in deeper I could see why… And it was kind of heartbreaking. She just wanted to have love, she just wanted to be loved for her, not for someone she wasn’t or someone she was trying to be to be loved… and she wasn’t getting that in. But she thought she had found that in Theo…
These two together?
I can’t… My head was spinning. The shit that Theo said and did was messed up… The push and pull, the sexual tension between the two. The way the book progressed and showed me all different sides to these characters. It was all phenomenal and written flawlessly. I want to so badly dive into this plot and pick each and every chapter apart and tell all… I couldn’t do that. I believe you have to go into this story blind. You need to soak up everything it throws your way. Because MCG has raised the bar when it comes to bully/enemies-to-lovers romances. Everything I thought I was getting myself into when I started this book, was quickly thrown out the window. But that’s not a bad thing. AT ALL. This was so much more. It had my head spinning constantly, and the angst? Fuck. I wanted to cry, scream, punch someone or something, throw shit and then laugh like I was some kind of manic.
I know this review is a mess… But so is my damn head after that book. I mean… BEST POSSIBLE WAY… But shit, dude… My mind is blown. This author isn’t new to me and I shouldn’t be shocked at how epic this was, but I am. I didn’t expect what I got…
But what I got was I could have asked for and more.
As I said, this review is a mess, but once you read it. You will understand why.
Que the book hangover… *Groans*
One last thing?
!
!
Heartless Hero was a phenomenal read that completely took me by surprise. Full of love, hate, friendship, heartbreak, passion, happiness and tons of angst I was held spellbound from the very first page to the last.
Abigail Crowne and Theo Hound tied me up in knots from the very start. Both were complex, perfectly imperfect and boy did I love them all the more because of it. The push and pull between them as they danced around one another was enthralling. Oh and sweet baby Jesus, Theo melted me into a gooey puddle with his possessively wicked mouth! Though they appeared worlds apart the connection they shared was palpable and undeniable. My emotions where all over the place and I ran the gamut from shedding a few tears, to wanting to go on a rampage, and then grinning like a loon as I rooted for Abigail and Theo.
Heartless Hero was pure mindblowing perfection. The character development and sheer depth of the storyline held me riveted as I devoured every word as quickly as I could. I love this author’s way with words that drew me in with her beautifully flawed characters that I fell so hard for. Heartless Hero was a spellbinding read and a definite top favorite of mine. If you love tempestuous and angsty romances that keep you on the edge of your seat then dive in and get ready for all the feels Abigail and Theo will give you.
He was mean.
He was angry.
He wanted his revenge.
She was sad.
She was lonely.
She just wanted to be loved.
These two collide in a fit of chemistry, heat, passion, love, anger, hate, lust, need, desire, revenge, loneliness, and feeling.
Theo is the bully you want to love. He’s the anti-hero you also hate. But only because you aren’t quite sure what his motives are. You aren’t sure if you can trust him. You want to, but you just feel it in your gut that you shouldn’t.
So, you’re hesitant. You keep your distance. You hold yourself back.
Just as Abigail should have done.
Or should she have given him her all? Should she have bared herself to the only person she ever loved or should she have kept that hidden? Her secrets? Her scars? Did he deserve any of them?
Woven with a bit of mystery and intrigue, a whole lot of money and the twisted world in which the rich may live, MCG brings you a story you won’t want to put down. You’ll want to know if Theo can be redeemed. You’ll want to know why Abigail loves him.
And you’ll want to know the cost of falling for the one person you were never meant to fall for.
Well, it took me a couple days to determine how to write this and I’m still not sure exactly what to say. Mary Catherine Gebhard wrote a story that put me through the wringer. I was immediately attached to Abigail and felt every low and high along with her. I laughed, I cried, and I got all worked up. I truly wondered at times if I would be okay by the time the story ended, but I should have realized MCG wouldn’t leave me in perpetual torment. I went in mostly blind and am advising others to do the same.
New Adult, Dark Contemporary Romance, Enemies-to-Lovers, Bully Romance, Second Chance Romance
First Person, dual-POV
This is a standalone book of the Crowne family, but it seems like the other two Crowne siblings will get their own story soon.
“Theo and I are inverse, a dark, twisted version of love. We’re still connected, but not through sweet words, through torment and ache. Theo is still inside me. He’s still in my heart.”
by Abigail
WHAT HAS REALLY WORKED FOR ME
Addictiveness: 5/5 This was intense. Not an easy read, but a very addictive one. Even when I was hurting, I couldn’t let go of my kindle. I felt Abbie and Theo’s pain. As addictive as chocolate!!!
Character: hero 5/5, heroine 5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 5/5 Multidimensional characters with so much depth that they drown you with their pain and sorrow. They were all so easy to love, hate and love again.
Theo was a perfectly imperfect antihero. That boy-man came back to destroy Abigail like she has destroyed him before. He came from nothing, he had nothing and when he finally believed he had something, it was all an illusion. When he got a second chance, he came back ready to hurt. He has become a master in hurting. He knew exactly how to make it really matters and how to destroy his prey. Yeah, he was a jerk, but a very lovable one. His background helps us to love/hate him. He needed to be deconstructed to become more, a better version of himself.
Abigail, another imperfect masterpiece. Seriously that girl was all wrong and broken. She was a byproduct of a completely dysfunctional family. The younger child that was always in the shadows of her older siblings. She never was pretty enough, good enough or perfect enough. She was always looking for attention and she was so unlucky that it felt like she was always messing up. Theo was the love of her life once, but now he was back not the same boy she remembered. He was hurtful, rude, a jerk, but somehow still protecting her. Abbie needed to be broken so she could be mended again.
I’m certain all of the Crowne kids are as screw up as Abigail. I’m really looking forward to read their stories. Because, at the end of the day, they are all byproduct of that crazy family and from each of their point-of-view they have been lacking somewhere.
Villains.. antagonists… really, in a story like that everyone has played the villain at some point. But of course, these screwed up kids, became that because of their screwed up family.
All characters were lovable, connectable and easy to understand!!!
Cover: art 4/5, title 5/5, color-font 5/5, buy 5/5 I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. I like this cover but I don’t love it. Is just a bit too generic for me. I could maybe see Theo and Abbie, but not really. I just wished for something more distinctive. I love the title. Is is perfect for Theo. I like the play with colors and the font used. I also like the art in sort of shadows, which was definitely where our couple stayed the most. I would probably buy this book by its cover without needing to read the blurb!!!
Freshness: 5/5 I have to say this is one original story. I’ve been reading a lot bully romance, but even inside the trope this feels unique. It was different and weird at the same time. As fresh as water in the middle of the desert!!!
Plot: believable 5/5, conflict 5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 5/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 5/5, twists 5/5 Great opening for a lovable ending. This was a intense, fast-paced romance that kept me in the edge of my seat. The dialogues, the subplots, the conflict and the twists were like Wow. Really it was never a calm read. Every page had me needing to relearn hot to breathe. Highest level of enjoyment!
Romance: believable 5/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 5/5, steam 4/5 Holy moly! This was HOT! I’m serious, panty-wetter, cold-showering hot! These two were explosive together. Their love/hate relationship was always drowning us with heat. This is a twisted love story. This is all sort of wrong, but for the two of them it was perfect. They are both broken and they destroyed us with them.
Writing Style: 5/5 I don’t even know what to say. This was my first read by the author, and I’m still in shock. I felt too much! What else would I want from a writer than a cathartic experience? Writing of a wordsmith!!!
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER
I guess if the author allowed me to breathe a few times. This book was long and I felt punched and kicked the entire time.
MY THOUGHTS
Sorry, I’m everywhere with this review. I usually like to write logical reviews that may help other readers, but I’m still in shock, not really knowing what to say and how to say it.
I will say this: THIS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE!!!
I’m feeling raw and destroyed. I’m happy and glad two twisted souls could find some sort of peace and haven.
I’ve loved the book, but I need a break from it! It is crazy and it made me crazy.
34/35 STARS – 5 STARS (between 33.5 stars and 35 stars)
Addictiveness: 5 Character: 5 Cover: 4 Freshness: 5 Plot: 5 Romance: 5 Writing Style: 5

Would I recommend? Definitely! For everybody that enjoys a twisted painful kind of read!!!
Would I re-read this book/series? I need a break, but I would reread it.
Would I read more from the author? I’m really looking forward to.
You MAY read this because you follow the author; you SHOULD read this because you like your romance dark; you MUST read this for a painful love story!!!

HOLY SH*T…IT’S OFFICIAL, I AM CALLING IT! Heartless Hero by Mary Catherine Gebhard will go down as one of my favorite bully romances ever! I have been reading a ton of bully romances recently and this one definitely captured my undivided attention right from the beginning and held on tight as I devoured every word. The author’s beautifully captivating storytelling ability and character development hooked my heart and left a satisfying ache deep in my chest.
The undeniable connection between Theo Hound and Abigail Crowne made my heart melt. These two were destined to be together, even if not everyone believed that. These two come from completely different worlds and yet they keep finding their way back to one another. They have both felt like outsiders, but together they find out they belong. Theo might be the bully in this story, but if you look closer, you will realize something there are bigger bullies out there trying to make sure to keep them apart.
THIS STORY HAD IT ALL!
BULLY ROMANCE? CHECK.
ENEMIES TO LOVERS? CHECK.
SECOND CHANCE? CHECK…AND DOUBLE CHECK.
If these three things interest you, then you need to one-click this story RIGHT NOW…don’t wait!
This is my first novel by Gebhard! Will it be my last? Heck No! I’m in love with yet again, another author. How many hours are there in a day? Not enough for all the new books added to my TBR! This is Theo and Abigail’s story though, not mine, and what a story! I’m just loving this genre and devouring them! This story grabbed me, and it was so darn hard to put this down! So emotional! I can’t wait to read this book again, it was that good!
This is my first book by Mary Catherine and it will NOT be my last.
Let me start off by saying, THEO IS EVERYTHING. I know i know, he was such a meany but deep down I loved how he knew what he felt, he knew his feelings for Abigail. Theo and Abigail were each others halfs, these two were FIRE. I loved how Abigail never gave up tho, she fought and never showed weakness.
This book was everything I loved in a book, it had me on the edge of my seat wanting more. I stated up until 1am reading this book. This was a bully romance that is not what you expect, so many shocking moments that you didn’t see coming. A MUST READ!!! I will be going back and reading this authors previous books after reading this amazing book.
Theo Hound f**ked my mind, my heart, and my soul so hard, I will never ever be the same again, not after meeting him, and I’m not the least bit mad.
Theo intrigued me from the very beginning when Abigail Crowne first laid eyes on him for the first time in a long time. I knew there was a story there but I wasn’t quite sure what and as it slowly unraveled, I just wanted Theo all for myself more and more. Sorry, not sorry.
He wasn’t perfect by any means and hurt Abby and ME countless times. *sobs* But I knew that underneath all the a**holeness and d*ckish moves was a decent guy so I pushed forward and read his and Abby’s story that was anything but a fairytale.
I was an absolute mess while reading, so much so, I had to take breaks to munch on junk food because Theo stressed me out like no other. He also made my heart hurt and it hurt a lot but no matter how many breaks I took, I could never stay away from Theo very long. He wormed his way into my heart without me realizing it and he never let me go and I don’t ever plan on letting him go either. He’s MINE and I am ready to fight for him. Kidding. Not really.
No book has made me cry the way I did with Heartless Hero in a long time and I rarely cry with books, but this book absolutely broke me just like Theo broke down Abby. And I don’t mean he broke down her walls. Nope, absolutely not. Theo crushed Abby in more ways than one and he broke ME in the process. The jerk.
Theo became Abby’s tormentor and her bully and she became his prey. He lived to make her life miserable but not knowing why killed me. It really hurt me seeing the things Theo did to Abby but as much as he hurt her, I couldn’t stop wanting him. I know what you’re probably thinking, “how can you like a guy like that?” Well, first of all, Theo is hot AF. Like model hot. *drools* He also torments Abby in some of the sexiest ways. Be prepared to fan yourself and maybe have a glass of water in case he makes you thirsty. And did I mention he’s hot AF?
Theo is just one of those guys you can’t help but love to hate and hate to love. He will get under your skin and piss you off in more ways than one but by the time you’re really angry with him, it’ll be too late. He’ll be too far cemented in your heart that no matter what he does you won’t be able to not love him. Trust me, I know.
Theo pissed me off like a mofo and made me gasp so many times I don’t even know where to begin. I wanted to be angry at him, I really did, but no matter what he did, I always gave him another chance. Time and time again. Did he screw me over many times? Heck yes!! Did he break my heart? Countless times. But it was worth it. All the heartache and tears I shed for Abby and Theo were more than worth it. Theo made me feel like no other and melted my cold heart in the process. His and Abby’s story is one I won’t be forgetting anytime soon and one I will think about always.
My blogger hat goes off to Mary Catherine Gebhard for writing such a beautiful story that moved me in ways I never saw coming. Thank you for giving us Theo Hound, Gebhard. You truly blessed the book world with one of the most amazing book boyfriends ever.
I’ve read many bully romances but I have to say that Gebhard really took this trope to a whole new level and wrote one of the best stories I have read in ALL of 2019 and no I’m not freaking kidding. Heartless Hero is without a doubt one of my top ten reads of the year and is a book I will be reading over and over again. When you meet Theo Hound you’ll understand why.
Heartless Hero is one of the best bully romances to date and a book every romance lover should read. Even if you aren’t into bully romance, give this book a chance!! It has everything all us hopeless romantics live for plus so much more! I promise you will not regret picking this book up so take a chance on Heartless Hero. I did and I am crazy for Theo Hound. *whispers hands off, he’s mine*
Heartless Hero ruined me in the best way and I hope it ruins you too. Bully romances will never be the same after you meet Theo Hound and that I promise you.
Do yourself a favor and pick up Heartless Hero ASAP! Seriously, do it!
I give this story all the freaking stars and crownes because Theo Hound and this story is everything! I seriously loved it and cannot say enough good things about it.
5 STARS
“I’m going to break your heart, and you’re going to thank me for it.”
Mary Catherine Gebhard…what have you done to me? Parts of this story utterly destroyed me, and now you’ve left me with a crazy book hangover!
The profound connection between both Theo and Abigail runs deep, through their fear of abandonment and being unwanted. Heartless Hero delves into at least three of my favourite romance tropes: Enemies to lovers, bully, and second chance romance. You are going to love to hate Theo Hound, I know I do!!!
“You might be the artist, but you’re my masterpiece,” he said. “All my life I’ve been painting you on a canvas, and now I’m going to unravel you thread by thread.”
This book was such an intense read that it reached a level beyond EPIC proportions!!! Heartless Hero by Mary Catherine Gebhard will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
