Man, Scarlett Scott is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! She sure knows how to steam it up! =D
I waited months for this book and it didn’t disappoint! A tortured alpha male and a beautiful heroine and lots of tension and sensuality.
“Your name.” He meant to ask her in the form of a question but was not very adept at polite conversation. He led his agents. He hosted depraved fetes at his townhouse. He did not speak to governesses, pay social calls, or whirl about at balls. He was a machine.”
Thus the meeting of our hero, Leo, the Duke of Carlisle, leader of a secret branch of the Home Office and Bridget O’Mallery, posing as Governess, going by the name of Jane. But she is the enemy, a member of the Finians, Irish rebels who had been responsible for a murder of someone close. But he does not know that at first.
Totally taken with her beauty, her sultriness and a woman he cannot shake, he feels she is attracted to him too. But she is hiding secrets, he knows it and she is the governess which is off limits.
Amazing. That is what comes to mind as I turned the last page of this story. Leo and Bridget are both complicated and have their own demons they are battling. But family is important to both of them and as they end up dancing to their passion, how can it turn out? Drawn together but should not have been?
Scarlett Scott has written a phenomenal story with indepth characters full of strong emotions that it will have you smiling and teary eyed at the same time. She has become one of my favorite authors and I look forward to the next book in the League of Dukes in great anticipation!
Whew, that was intense and wonderful and I am still reeling from this story. I love stories that intertwine families into the stories. The addition of family members and showing how they love and respect each other and will do anything for them is so wonderful to read about. This story has such a dynamic relationship with the brothers and their mother. Also, having a strong woman like Bridget starring in this story was brilliant. Unlike some stories, she never gives in even when seduced by the ultra-swoon worthy Heartless Duke.
Don’t let the tissues get too far away at the end of this story. Just saying.
I received a complimentary copy from the author.
What an emotionally packed tale from the first page to the last. A must-read sizzling, romantic adventure.
I started this series a couple of nights ago and I have wanted to read the next one as soon as the first one was finished. This is the second book in the League of Dukes series. This is Leo, the Duke of Carlisle and the leader of a secret branch of the Home Office and Bridget O’Malley a member of the Irish underground movement. these two will have so much to overcome there is suspense, drama, danger, shooting, twists, turns, love for a brother, and love between enemies. I read a copy through KU and I am reviewing.
Leopold, the Duke of Carlisle, is leader of a specialized group of agents working for the crown against the Fenians, Irish rebels. Their responsible for the brutal slaying of his future sister-in-law’s late husband and its job to keep them safe from the Fenians. Leo is not having his best day’s he’s arriving at his brother’s wedding in the middle of the night to only be met by a beautiful young woman who happens to the governess to The Duke’s nephew.
Bridget O’Malley a trusted member of the underground organization sent to kidnap the Duke’s nephew posing as he’s governess by day and at night she has easy access to all forms of information for the rebel cause or someone she loves will die. Leo and Bridget have vast differences in their beliefs making them to be enemies and fighting on opposite sides.
Bridget is drawn to Leo the most enigmatic man she’s ever met and she’s falling for him despite her determination not to. Leo is quite fascinated by her, she’s the one woman he can’t shake and he can’t trust her. He knows their more to her than meets the eye, he hears a slight accent he can’t quite place and a secret he means to unravel and determine who she is by any means necessary. There are too many lives at stake is she a friend or an enemy? I loved this story of the heartless duke and the fiery rebel clash in a fierce battle of wills. 5 STARS!!!I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
Scarlett made me root for the hero and heroine to both get what they wanted most. Loved that two unlikely people found their way to each other, from completely different worlds. This book kept me wanting to know what would happen next, so difficult to put down. I received an advanced reader copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
I missed the first book in this series but met but first met Leo and his brother Clay in Her Deceptive Duke book 4 of Wicked Husbands. A small taste of Leo’s personality, his heavy burdens of responsibilities, loyalties, his strengths, fortitude and his demons. I was eagerly anticipating this book, for Leo to find his HEA. I knew it would be phenomenal and I was not disappointed! The plot is excellent in it’s twists and turns and fluently written. This is not a sweet and clean bedroom doors closed they are wide open. The intimate scenes written with such exquisite candor and wickedness. Ms. Scott can write a scorching love scene! Leo finds he has a very tender and romantic side with his ‘banshee’. Bridget is an intelligent, loyal, loving and strong woman. they are a match. There was much to overcome to get their HEA. I would recomend this book for anyone who likes a hot and adventurous love story.
I recieved an Arc of this book from the author. This is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Heartless Duke by Scarlett Scott is a magnificent historical romance. Ms. Scott has provided readers with a well-written book, awesome story and a fabulous cast of characters. When Leo, Duke of Carlisle, met Jane she was governess to his nephew. When she was caught holding a gun to his nephew after kidnapping him, he shot her. Jane and Leo’s story is loaded with drama, humor, suspense, action and sizzle. I enjoyed reading Heartless Duke and look forward to reading more from Scarlett Scott in the future. Heartless Duke is book 2 of the Leauge of Dukes Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from a third party. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
He’s a relentless rake, as cruel as can be in fact totally heartless. He’s Leo the Duke of Carlisle, leader of a secret branch of the Home Office charged with keeping the peace amidst great peril and upheaval. By day, he hunts anarchists and murderers with savage intensity. By night, he rules over London’s darkest, most depraved souls.
Bridget O’Malley, a trusted member of the Fenians an underground organization to gain Irish independence. She is a on a mission & is posing as Jane Palliser governess to the young Duke of Burghley.
When Leo & ‘Jane’ meet sparks fly, their attraction can’t be denied, then she becomes his prisoner.
WOW what a book! Whilst this second in the series could be read on its own to fully appreciate it I’d recommend reading the first. I was totally engrossed & captivated from start to finish. The characters are extremely well portrayed. Leo is a complicated person with hidden depths but he is devoted to his close family. Bridget raised her brother Cullen & is prepared to do anything to help him. The true joy of this book was the interaction between Leo & Bridget, their verbal spats so good & entertaining & their attraction sizzled.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Heartless Duke by Scarlett Scott is book Two in the Heartless Duke Series. This is the story of Leo, Lord Carlisle and Bridget O’Malley. I have read (and Loved) the previous book, but feel you can make this a standalone book if you whis to do so. Leo works in a secret branch of the Home Office but has returned for his brother’s wedding. There he meets ‘Jane’ who is the governess for his brother’s kids. Jane is actually Bridget who by day is a respectable women but at night she works for the underground organization to gain Irish independence. When she is caught by Leo things escalate in how they are handling their attraction and actions.
This was a exciting hot read…page turner for sure.
The thrill, the excitement, I could not stop thinking what is she thinking, what is he thinking, what is she going to do next, what is he going to do next. When I needed to stop reading for the night I did not know where I wanted to stop. Leo and Bridget had vast differences in their beliefs, which caused them to be enemies and fighting on opposites sides. The combustion of heat between them was thrilling.
This is one of the first books I read by Scarlett Scott, but it will not be my last.
Bridget O’Malley, beautiful Irish freedom fighter was introduced in previous book – she is the illegitimate half-sister of Daisy, Duchess of Trent. Leo, Duke of Carlisle, is the leader of a secret branch of Home Office, the League, determined to rout out the dangerous Fenians who murdered the Duke of Burghly. Bridget is undercover as a governess to Edward, the young Duke of Burghly, who is Leo’s nephew. Her mission is to abduct the boy so the head of the Fenians can use him to bargain the release of their men. While Bridget believes in Irish home rule, she is against any violence. But her brother Cullen was arrested and with her help the leader of the Irish will secure his release. But Leo arrives at his estate where the rest of his family is and literally bumps into Bridget. From their first meeting, the attraction is mutual. After successfully removing Edward from his home and on the way to train, Leo uncovers the plot and rescues his nephew – by shooting Bridget. Bringing her wounded to London, Leo is reluctant to hand her over to the League. So he tends her through the fever himself and tries to get information, unsuccessfully. When the Duke and Duchess of Trent learn of Bridget’s capture, they insist Leo marry her – to protect her and himself from the League. What started as a cover up, unwanted attraction by both and a marriage of convenience turns into a discovery of needs, desire and deep love. Bridget tries to tell Leo her brother is innocent, but all the evidence points to him being involved. But trust is the ultimate virtue that sends Bridget on a path of betrayal. After giving her his heart, Leo is devastated by Bridget’s failure to trust in him and instead seeks help from the Fenians. Now with both their lives at risk, can they overcome not only their enemy, but the treachery unfolding before them? Wonderful romantic and turbulent story of finding love and trust in all the wrong places – when you least expect it!!
I enjoy all of Ms. Scott’s books! This book held my attention, I could not put it down!
The Duke of Carlisle, Leo works for the Crown. He is on his way to his half brother’s marriage to the widowed Duchess of Burghly. Leo loves his half brother and his mother, his father’s former lover. As Leo get’s their home late at night he encounters a Governess for widowed Duchess young son, Jane. Jane is not who she says she is. But, Leo is attracted to her and so is she to him. You have to read this amazin book 🙂
This story has mystery, action, suspense and romance. Unexpected surprises. Steamy loves scenes, and the Duke is gorgeous and the beautiful Governess whose name is really Bridget an Irish native. So much mystery and conflicting emotions, lies and a well written story!
I eagerly look forward to the next book.
Scarlett Scott creates passion with an unlikely pair that are both damaged by a previous relationship. The author’s attention to historical detail makes the book a compelling read.
Leo, the Duke of Carlisle, is a group leader of a secret branch of the Home Office, meets Bridget O’Malley, posing as a Governess for his brother’s young son, using an alias, & is an enemy of the English. Leo does not know this but finds her beautiful and irresistible but something about her bothers him – she is hiding secrets.
I really enjoyed this story and the H & h were a great couple and the secondary characters brought a lot of humor, family love & loyalty to the story. I highly recommend this book – there were quite a few explicit sex scenes (just as a warning) but I just skimmed over those and it didn’t change my enjoyment of the wonderful story Scarlett Scott had created for our enjoyment! I am looking forward to reading Book 3 in this series.
