Heartless Boss
Written by: J.M Stoneback
Gunner Underwood is a self made man, a man who demanded a lot from himself and from others. He was also hiding from himself. Hiding the kind of memories that never really leave you, that live on in your mind, that punish you for things you didn’t do and cause the stress to build up to a point that there is always that explosion that can sometimes push you to be someone you really aren’t
Gia Gallagher doesn’t want to be seen by anyone! She will never let the world see who she really is and that’s a shame; because she has worked very hard to to become who she is today. She also hates her boss Gunner and she has reason. He has a temper, he’s rude and he ghosts women he dates. Gia also knows Gunner from college and she relates Gunner to the reason she left school. (and NO, it’s not what you think.) There comes a day when Gia needs help and Gunner steps up to help out. It’s then that Gia gets to see different Gunner; a man she had not expected not to see.
Both Gunner and Gia are survivors, Gunner carries not just trauma from his childhood but and event not long ago that has him fighting PTSD. He needs help but he holds everything in, which is causing other issues in his life. Gia survived a very abusive relationship and with the support of her friend Izzy and a therapist she is managing.
Heartless Boss does have bright spots as well where they laugh and enjoy the time they spend together. But the dark can take over and when that happens that is when we readers can see these characters for who they really are.
Gunner has to admit to himself that he does need help but will he take that step? Will they ever be able to be couple or will their relationship fall apart?
This was an interesting read where ghosts continued to haunt both characters. Watching Gia’s character grow throughout the story was rewarding, while in some instances Gunner’s character becomes more broken. Can Gunner do what needs to be done to keep Gia in his life? I will say, when I finished reading Heartless Boss I was glad I had picked this up. It was a story that makes you stop and think about how much people hide from each other and how with work they can heal.
Gia and Gunner knew each other in college but she was dating someone and couldn’t act on her attraction for Gunner. Gunner is a man with many secrets and always trying to take care of anyone he considers family. Gia “Rainbow” comes to work for him but she hates her job and is really bad it however Gunner likes her so he lets her stay. When he learns that she is going to be homeless he snatches her from the hotel she is staying at and takes her home with him. Soon they start to bond and connect on another level. Gia notices that Gunner drinks more now that she lives with him and when thinks get to be more between them the drinking aspect becomes an issue. Will Gunner be able to give up drinking in order to have a healthier relationship with Gia?
This is a great story that will draw you in from the first chapter on. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

This story is awesome. The writing is really wonderful. There are so many emotional moments that just sneak right up on you. It’s funny, sexy, and touching with great dialogue, and a lot of heart. I loved these complicated characters whose lives have been colored by their painful experiences. Gia and Gunnar both have the ghosts to overcome before their happy ending but this amazing love story has a great finish and left me 100% satisfied. I really loved it.

I absolutely loved this book.
Gia, “Rainbow”, is physically and emotionally scarred by not only being abandoned a’s a child but also being abused by her college boyfriend. Gunner, “Wolf”, is fighting his own demons. He is suffering from PTSD from his father”s abuse and subsequent death. Gunner has been trying to get Gia since college and could not understand why she hated him so much, little does he know “there is a thin line between love and hate”.
This book has great characters, both supporting and main. The characters are three dimensional; they develop and mature as the story progresses. The story line is awesome. I laughed, cried, and gasped. This book offers everything.
I would love to see a book with Izzy and Matt.
