I’ve avoided my hometown for twenty-seven years for one reason.Aaron Gritt. Now that I’m back in Springs Falls, I’ve done my best to not run into him.But if I happen to, let’s hope he isn’t as hot as he was at eighteen. But the universe is funny that way. My life is proof of it—secrets and all.So I’m not surprised when he stands in my classroom before me as the parent of one of my students. … parent of one of my students. Forgiving him when he walked away had always been hard, but not as hard as it is to finally tell him the truth.

Can you forget your first love?
I didn’t.
Even if I didn’t recognize her right away, the girl with a star-shaped birthmark was always somewhere on my mind.
But she isn’t the competitive and driven seventeen-year-old captain of the girls hockey team I loved anymore.
I don’t know what happened but she has lost her fire and never made it into the pros like she dreamt of.
Now I know why, and it’s my turn to decide if I can forgive her.
A second-chance, small town romance novel you won’t be able to put down.

Five amazing, flashing stars for this book!!
This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. It is raw, emotional, frustrating, totally steamy and worth every minute you read it for. This author is one I now read with every release, and this book, with all of its craziness and twists was AMAZING!!
The world Gabrielle G has created is big and beautiful. Her previous books gives you insight into the past and what has happened. The characters tug at my heart with everything I have. These characters are one that could be your neighbor next door or the person you pass in the store. She knows how to write real, raw people and keep you enthralled from the first word to the last beautiful word.
Alane and Aaron came alive in the book. Their story is one of being influenced and moving on, even though you never forget your first love. This story will hit you to the core with all these 2 characters have been through, along with the rest of the family. Sometimes we see things how we want to, and not how they are actually done. The mixture and support of the family is one reason Gabrielle G amazes me. She can bring laughter, emotion, tears and love all in one page.
Alane and Aaron are two people who have made mistakes. They are forced back together and the sparks are still flying. They have so much baggage and insecurities, they have quite the twisted road ahead of them. Together, they navigate the road. It is not pretty and perfect, but they navigate it together. By the end, you might be ready to cuss the author. But, you will fall in love with her characters and their amazing, heartfelt story.
A read that deserves more than 5 stars!!!
How to begin Oh, I know…
I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!
I’m really and truly in love with it . This book has all what I love in a romance. Heartbreak, drama, emotional breakdown, unbelievable gripping love story and is hot as hell
Damn, the chemistry between them is just OMG!!!
Alane’s and Aaron’s book is an unbelievable emotional and gripping story. It’s a rollercoaster of hurt feelings and dramatic journey through memories and regrets in an incredible heartbreaking love story .
Do you remember your first love?
Do you think about the what if sometimes?
Do you believe in soul mates and first and only love?
This beautiful story is all about these ifs and the one and only real love, but also about second chances and forgiving at the right time.
An amazing, swoony and sweet love story with so many obstacles and complications that it took 27 years to clear up all of them.
What began with 15 year old girl and boy and led to a disaster and a broken heart, indeed never really ended.
When it’s the one, you can’t just forget.
When it’s the one, you will always think about those ifs and maybes.
When it’s the one, it’ll haunt you your whole life.
OMG! I love this book so much
I’m emotional wrecked, my emotions are all over the place and I’m in love with the characters. And not only the main characters
Ok, I think that’s enough of the spoilers. This book is a stand alone, but you should read the other books by Gabrielle.
You’ll recognize a lot of the characters in this one from her previous books.
I recommend this book to everyone and not only the romance and HEA lovers.
Read it, enjoy it and let me know what you think about it
This was my first book by Gabrielle G. I loved this book! And I look forward to reading more of her work. If you want a page turner, entertaining, awesome characters then this is the book for you.
This is my first Gabrielle G book and holy wow, I am seriously adding all of her previous work to my TBR because I am obsessed.
Heartbroken is the first book in the Gritt Family series and it will leave you on your knees. This is a story of love, loss, anger, resentment, frustration and so much more.
Aaron and Alane will leave you breathless. From the beginning, you are drawn into their story. And to the very end, you’re left wanting more because even though the story is over, you aren’t ready to let these characters go. You aren’t ready to say goodbye.
This second chance romance has angst and passion… you can’t help but fall in love with them in every single way. Even through the turmoil, you’re fighting for them… even when they give up fighting for each other. You feel every single emotion, every tear is yours and you share their heartache and pain.
This book is beautifully written, drawing you in and making you want more.
Four stars for this beautiful second chance romance that has you feeling all the things it provokes.
Alane did something years ago that has been haunting her. Years ago she fell in love with a boy who not only blew her mind away but also broke her heart. Coming back to Spring Falls not only has her first love but also memories that have never left her. Seeing her again is making Aaron Gritt go crazy with everything of their past coming back full force. Unlike Alane he has questions of what happened to the love they had and where it all went wrong. The thing is that he has no time for Alane but instead his kids come first in every way. These two together and the kids are bringing up so many memories of their pas it is hard to ignore them anymore. This is the first I have read by Gabrielle G and boy if any of her books are like this two then watch out. I loved that Alane and Aaron have so much going on there is no way to decide who ended who first. I loved seeing the flashbacks of their past, what brought them together and boy talk about obstacles coming in their way. This is just the first book in this series and boy cannot wait to see what happens with the rest of the Gritt family.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
What a different take on a second chance love story. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it won’t be my last. I absolutely love everything about the Gritt clan.
The author draws you in to the story from the very first line and keeps you hooked throughout.
Alana and Aaron are highschool sweethearts and have their future planned out. Unforseen trouble and lack of communicate rip the two apart. Alana returns home after 27 years to take care of her mom and runs in to Aaron. The attraction is still there but can they get past the hurt and lies? I’ll let you read for yourself. I can’t wait for more of this wonderful family.
I was so ready for this book, and it was worth the wait.
I’m usually not a fan of a story that spans years. You guys know my hangups with flashbacks, but sometimes the story is yelling to be read so loudly that all those things that usually bother me fade away.
Aaron and Alane surpassed my expectations. Their journey felt so purposeful. I wanted to dive into the pages and live it with them over and over again.
I know when I need to get all into my feels that Gabrielle G. writing is going to give it to me, and Heartbroken was no exception.
I’ve sat on this review for a bit. I have so many thoughts and emotions swarming through me that I’m not exactly sure how to put them into the perfect words to explain how visceral this story truly is. Aaron and Alane’s story captured me right away. I needed to know what was going to happen, what had already happened. The conflicting emotions were like butterflies in my stomach that were trying to escape. The heartbreak, the betrayals, the loss…the love (and sexy times!), the connections, the friendships. I loved every word from beginning to end, even if some of the things that happened and were said caused me extreme anxiety! I also need to mention how excited I was to have more Luke and Dex because I absolutely love them. Actually I’ve become quite attached to the Gritt family and can’t wait to read more!
The Blurb of this book intrigued me. I knew I had to dive into this one. I am a sucker for a small town romance so that was an added bonus. This is also a great second chance romance. Aaron and Alane are years in the making. Life has kept throwing huge obstacles in their way, but will their love see them to the finish line? I liked we get the back story of their friendship to relationship. When get to see them reconnect it shows the real intense meaning it truly is to them. I liked also seeing the different relationships she has with Aaron’s siblings. There are a lot of layers to this story that make it so good. It gives you true raw real life and the curve balls that it throws you. I’m looking forward to reading more from this series and see what is in store for Aaron’s siblings.
The tittle of this book isn’t wrong, my heart broke several times while reading this book.
What a pure love between Alana and Aaron. This book made me cry because of how much i felt with the characters. The story is beautifully written and I would love to read more about the Gritt Family, i can’t wait fore Gabrielle’s next book in this series.
This book has it all, love, sadness and passion. The build up of the story is wonderfull and you can not put the book down untill the finish. It is a page-turner from beginning till the end.
Wow, just wow! Gabrielle G brought out every gut wrenching heartbreaking emotion with Heartbroken! I am so involved in the Gritt family I can only wish for more and can’t wait for the next book. Alane and Aaron share a beautiful relationship starting in high school only to be torn apart by all that surrounds them. Finding their way back is worth it all! Loved it!
Gabrielle G writes such a heartbreakingly beautiful second chance romance book with Heartbroken. Aaron and Alane had me all up in my feels. My emotions were running all over the place as I followed their journey through all the ups and downs, the memories of what once was to the present. The author will have your heart pounding as she did mine from start to finish. Gabrielle G has totally outdone herself with Heartbroken as I feel this is her best book to date! This is a breathtaking must read, deserve all the stars heartfelt story!
Aaron and Alane are young and in love, planning to have a forevermore with their future until Aaron is given ultimatums by Alane’s Dad and secrets aren’t kept secrets.
Their lives are split apart and have been forced to move on without each other but deep down something is missing but will secrets and betrayal break them apart for good or bring them together for good.
Aaron and Alane’s story is written beautifully, the family dynamic and getting a glimpse of Luke young and a piece of Dex later is so welcoming.
My emotional peak was the secret, I could not get over so many years that was lost for Aaron but I guess it’s life and you must move on and forgiveness is everything. It’s the beauty of the story, the whole twist was written in a way that you understood the Why’s and the What if’s!
Looking forward to the rest of the Gritt family stories!
I love Gabrielle G and her words so much! With each and every book she writes she leaves me feeling so many different things. And Heartbroken is no different.
This second chance romance is heartbreakingly beautiful. Gabrielle G left me feeling so many different emotions I don’t even know where to start. Aaron and Alane’s story is absolutely amazing! I feel second chance romances are so much more emotional due to tall the stuff that previously happened and let me tell you the emotions are flying high and sometimes low. Heartbroken is a rollercoaster of a ride that had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t get enough but never wanted to it to end. I had to know what happened next but wasn’t sure I wanted to know. The internal struggle was real. Aaron and Alane’s story is real, raw, and gritty. I felt the emotions deep in my heart. I felt the pain and the heartache, and the love right along with them.
Heartbroken is one of those books that will stay with me for a long time. Gabrielle G has proven once again why I love her writing so much. When she writes a book, she writes it with her heart. I have not doubt Heartbroken will be a top read for me.
This is one of those stories that will stick with you. These characters were beautifully flawed.
This is a love story that spans many years.
We get to see the characters when they were young, discovering love and as adults, each with a set of problems. There were a couple of times that I wanted to strangle some characters and knock some see into them.
Reading this book, you get to travel with them in the time line, uncovering secrets but I also have to say that it wasn’t able to predict where the story was going. I had a few hunches with who orchestrated their breakup but I guessed wrong.
Aaron and Alane had to overcome quite a lot for their happiness and it was worth it.
If you love a second chance romance then you need this.
This was my first book by this author (I know, shame on me!) but definitely not my last!!!
This story starts about Alane & Aaron falling in love in high school. Slowly but steadily. Unfortunately she’s the pastors daughter, so it’s not as easy as one would think. A lot of restrictions surround these two, but they make do anyway. Their love is deep, and they have their lives planned out. But hardly ever anything goes according the way you planned right??
Almost thirty years later Alane returns to her hometown due to a family illness.
What happens when she sees Aaron again for the first time after these long agonizing years??
Such a beautiful heartbreaking second chance story. I loved how the author brought all the feelings to life. So vividly. I was hurting for them while reading. And me feeing for the characters is what’s making it a great story for me!!
I kindly received an arc and voluntarily left a review
Oh the angst! This book proves that heartache can survive just about anything and second chances are never impossible.
I was pained over this tragic love story between Aaron and Alane. It’s one where you know everything happened for a reason and the timing is supposed to be what it is, but you can’t help asking what if a thousand times (not unlike the characters) and wishing it could be different.
This fated pair have to go through a huge number of trials before finding one another again and there are some big secrets, big lies, and a whole lot of regret to go around.
I’m so happy to have found the Gritt family and can’t wait to read more about them!
Aaron and Alane’s story is an emotional roller coaster journey from beginning to end. This is a beautifully written 2nd chance romance story which is raw, gritty, sweet, and filled with drama, forgiveness, heartbreak, and love. This is an all-consuming and powerful story which had me totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner. I highly recommend this gifted authors’ work for all readers.
I loved this story. It was addictive, heartbreaking and beautiful. Second chance at it’s best. Alane and Aaron – their young love was powerful but not strong enough to fight for when they were young and didn’t know better. After everything that happened in 30 years they were apart they almost missed their second chance at love again but this time they were adults (most of the time) about it and they got HEA that was waaaay over due.
Absolutely perfect

This author was new to me, so I started this book with no expectations at all. What I got was a well-written, sweet, angsty, thought provoking story. One of my criteria for judging a good read is if I care about what happens to the characters. And I did care, because this author created an interesting story around these fallible and relatable people.
Aaron loved Alane and Alane loved him back, but family intervention and misunderstandings drove them apart. Now, separated for almost three decades, they meet again. From the first reuniting, anger, frustration and emotional pain come flooding back, and we are taken on a journey of acceptance and healing.
This was an interesting story about good and decent people who live through and survive the traumatic times that life often brings. I started the book and finished it in one sitting. It held my attention; I enjoyed this very much. I recommend this book if you’re looking for a very satisfying read.
