Mistakes? She’s made a few… Dropped out of high school? Check. Ran away with loser boyfriend at age sixteen? Check. Fell for every line from every guy? Sadly, check. But now, Tess Paplion has started over. Juggling multiple part-time jobs while finishing her college degree, she’s not letting anything get in her way. Especially not a sexy angel investor with “one-night disaster” written all … disaster” written all over him.
Mason Coleman just inherited a 200-pound invalid Mastiff–and an intriguing, unusual, and thoroughly infuriating dog nanny who turns his life upside down the moment she steps through his front door. No matter how she makes him feel Mason doesn’t do commitment–so what happens when he falls for her? And worse, what happens when she wants nothing to do with him?
Each book in the Bad Angels series is STANDALONE:

I loved the banter between Tess and Mason! Their conversations were actually my favorite bits of the entire story. Then there’s Wick, Mason’s sister’s drooling mastiff, who was rather amusing with his lazy-bones way. And Astro, Tess’s Maltese…she’d have fit perfectly with the cast from The Secret Life of Pets with her utter cuteness! Rounding out the group was a great group of supportive characters, whom I hope have/and or get stories of their own! Overall, this was a cute read.
If I could give half stars, this would be a solid 3.5 stars. The writing flowed well, my problem came with Tess. I understand that she had a lot of crappy people in her life, BUT she constantly pushed away the people who showed her again and again that they were there for her. The only thing missing from the fit she threw outside the bar was her stomping her foot like a 3 year old. Mason didn’t intentionally embarrass her, and his friends weren’t trying to be rude either. Yet Mason was the one who apologized. I honestly liked them together when Tess could get out of her head, but those moments were few and far between. That’s why the sudden change of heart at the end was hard to take. I really enjoyed the secondary characters, and they made the story better in my opinion. I thought the ending was sweet, and I would love to read Nate and Cece’s story.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
A playboy investor from a group of male BFFs known as the “Bad Angels.” A 200-pound invalid Mastiff. A former screw-up dog walker determined to set her life straight and avoid entanglements. Smoking sexy times. Heart-melting prose. Author Inara Scott delivers again. One of my favorite contemporaries EVER.
Cute story. Handsome, rich, nice guy Mason, agrees to take care of his sister’s enormous drooling mastiff, until graduation. The dog Wick, has been sick and his medication requires going out for walks often. Overwhelmed with the untrained huge dog, Mason having missed sleep and work happens to bump into Tess a dog walker coming out of his apartment elevator. Overworked Tess, is a dog walker while working at a vets, and taking online classes. When Mason ups his offer to 400.00 a day to dog sit Wick so he can get back to work. Both Mason and Tess have baggage and relationships just isn’t for them. Pretty Woman with a dog twist. As mentioned at the beginning, very cute and thoughtful.
Heartbreaker is book one of The Bad Angels Series by Inara Scott.
Tess Papion is a 26 year old college student who works several part time jobs to make ends meet. She has had a rough childhood, and has made her own fair share of mistakes in life. But she is finally beginning to get her life on track. One of the jobs she does is dog walker. Twice a week she walks dogs from San Fransisco’s swankiest new high rise – The Stella. And that is where she met Mason!
Mason Coleman is 30 years old and is one of the founding members of one of Silicon Valleys hottest venture capital firms. He is handsome, wealthy and currently stuck dogsitting his sisters 200 pound Mastiff, Wick. Wick comes with his own issues, allergies, steroids and behavioral problems. Mason agrees to keep Wick while his sister gets her life together but he has no clue what dogsitting a 200 pound dog entails. After missing an important business lunch and another event he realizes he doesn’t have time for this and needs some help!
That’s when he bumps into dog walker Tess, in the elevator of The Stella.
When Mason makes Tess an offer she simply can’t refuse – she finds herself in his presence every day! While they both have their own trust and commitment issues, they can’t deny the natural urge that is pulling them toward each other!
Tess is determined to not mix romance with work. But for how long can she deny what her body, mind and soul wants? Will Mason be able to lose his Heartbreaker ways and settle down I to new relationship territory with Tess?
I also love the amount of dogs mixed into this book! The cover was a huge attraction for me.
I am first a visual reader and the cover pulls you in, especially if you are a dog lover. Next the story was original and something new. The story was fast paced, the seduction and building of a budding relationship was wonderful and exciting! Not to mention steamy! I look forward to reading more in this series.
This was a fun, sweet, sexy read. Tess is a strong woman who refuses to let her walls down due to her past. When she meets, Mason, she will take care of his sister’s mastiff for him, but that is all. Mason isn’t one to give up and wants more from Tess. This was a good read.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.
Well the story kept me flipping through the pages waiting to see what would happen next.
The storyline is kinda cute and I had good time while reading, maybe because lately I like to read easy, feel good romances with a happy ending and this is one of those books.
I am looking forward of reading other books by this author.
New to Me Author Success!
Inara Scott is a completely new to me author that I’m so glad I tried! Heartbreaker is the first book in her Bad Angels series and it features a gifted businessman who’s know for his pretty face and ability to schmooze and a tough as nails dog whisper trying to put herself through school.
I absolutely loved the dynamics between the three business partners, the Bad Angels, it was very reminiscent of two of my favorite authors, Kate Meader and Lauren Layne. Mason and Tess were also wonderfully developed and just flawed enough to keep me interested without making me want to smack them. Watching them realize that they liked each other, wanted each other, and finally loved each other was so fun. I also adored the doggie characters! Can’t wait for more…like maybe Nate and CeeCee and Connor and Zoe!
Bad Angels #1, The real reason I picked this book… the dog. How could I say no to that face! I love mastiffs, I wish I could have one. New author for me and usually not much for a billionaire romance but I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It is a opposites attract/rags to riches romance which I enjoyed. Third person POV that switches focus from Mason to Tess so you get both sides of the story.
Tess came from a rough environment with a flaky mother who was constantly on the lookout for a new boyfriend or a new high. After making some poor life decisions as a teenager Tess moved in with her grandmother and started to take care of her. Now at the age of 26 she’s finally getting her life in order she got her GED and is taking online college courses while working three jobs.
Mason came from a loving home and succeeded at everything he did, except relationships. Good grades in high school, football star, went to Harvard and MIT and earned billions in investing in other people. His relationships on the other hand don’t seem to last after the fourth date. Mason’s sister, Alli, guilts him into taking care of her 200lbs mastiff, Wick, who just had surgery and is taking medication that’s makes him pee, a lot. Unable to give the dog the constant supervision he needs Mason hires a dogsitter. Seeing how adept Tess is with other dogs he begs her to take this job and even offers an outrageous sum of money for her.
Mason is completely taken with Tess, he’s never met anyone like her before. She’s a hard worker, great with animals, she calls him out whenever he starts flirting, she doesn’t want anything from him except to work and get paid, and underneath her ill fitting baggy clothes he knows she’s beautiful inside and out. Mason understands that Tess is as afraid of relationships as he is and after they start their non-relationship he’s constantly worried that she’ll bolt. Tess’ past has taught her not to rely on anyone and she’s afraid to let her guard down with Mason because his track record with staying with a woman is practically nil she’s afraid he’ll leave.
Overall, it was an entertaining read. I loved seeing their relationship grow into something more despite all the avoidance in communication with each other when it came to the really important stuff. The chemistry was great, it was obvious from the moment they set their eyes on each other it was going to be hot. I liked the side characters as well, and establishing the friendship and how deep it goes between Mason and the other Bad Angels and Tess and Cece. I look forward to the rest of the series.
Heartbreaker by Inara Scott is the first in her Bad Angels series. It’s about Tess Papion and Mason Coleman. Mason’s a founding member of one of Silicon Valley’s hottest venture capital boutiques. Tess is a veterinary student moonlighting as a dogwalker to help fund her education. Their paths cross when Mason’s sister leaves her exceedingly lazy mastiff with bathroom issues with him for the duration (her landlord put his foot down), and Mason hires Tess to help with Wick so that he can actually go to work.
Mason and his fellow investors have earned a reputation for not only being hot shot investors, but also being the hot shot bachelors. Tess was burned pretty badly in the past and knows that people just let you down. So neither of them is looking for a date, much less a relationship. Naturally, we all know how that goes 😉
Ms Scott does a terrific job with Heartbreaker. Mason and Tess’s story is by turns sweet, funny, hot, tender, and entirely engrossing. Ms Scott surrounds them with great supporting characters (including Nate and Connor, his cofounders, and Tess’s bestie Cece, and some other friends) who support and tease and encourage and nag just the way we’d want good friends to do. Because of her history, Tess is exceedingly independent. And Mason is certainly reluctant to scare her off. Ms Scott brings them together in a very satisfying way, and I can’t wait for the others in this new series!
Heartbreaker by Inara Scott a five-star read that will surprise you. I have to be honest and I nearly gave this a four-star or lower rating, but the ending pulled it round for me and pulled it up to a five. I loved the Main characters Tess Paplion and Mason Coleman they were great together and the secondary characters of the bad angels and Cecilia (I hope we hear more from her in the future as she was someone you know has a story begging to come out) gave a great story lines, the dogs Astro and Wick definitely played their parts making it overall a very good, heartfelt and compelling read but at times it did drag a little and I was like how much more time till its over, then a couple of pages later I could wait to turn the page. Give this a go if you like your romance slow burning, most definitely give this a go if you like dogs, in fact give this a go if you like a good romantic story.
This is my first book by Inara Scott. It will most certainly not be my last. I loved “Heartbreaker”! The book is sweet, sexy and a definite page turner. I loved the main characters, Tess and Mason. They seem to be total opposites. Tess had a rough childhood and is trying to finish her schooling while juggling several jobs. Mason had a great childhood and is part of a group of friends who have made billions in Silicon Valley. When Mason’s sister dumps her adorable dog, Wick, at his place, Mason is at a loss how to deal with the big, goofy mastiff. Enter Tess, a woman working several jobs, including dog walker/trainer. Mason grabs at a chance meeting with Tess and convinces her to be Wick’s dog sitter.
The sparks fly from the moment the two meet, and it only gets better. Tess is living pay check to pay check, trying desperately to put her difficult past behind her and move on, studying to become a veterinarian. She is defensive about her life and wary of men like Mason, who seem to have it all. Mason, meanwhile, is intrigued by the “grubby urchin” he’s met, and little by little he begins to needle his way into her life. The two embark on an affair, with neither of them realizing just how close they are becoming with each day.
The characters were so much fun, and I had a serious crush on Mason. And it was so easy to identify with Tess and her struggles. The dialogue was snappy and fun, and I was so sorry when the book ended. Ms. Inara created a world that I was more than happy to inhabit. And I am eagerly awaiting the next books in the series. I highly recommend this one!
Note: I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
Heartbreaker by Inara Scott is the story of Tess Papion and Mason Coleman.
Tess didn’t have the best mother, she was flighty and always with the wrong guy. When Tess was about 16 she took a chance on trusting a guy but that just showed her that men and relationships can’t really be trusted. So she is now self sufficient with three part time jobs and taking college classes to get ahead in life. Mason is the ultimate rich person with no plans to do a real relationship and just skims by with his encounters and few dates. Then he is left with his sister’s dog who has no control or discipline at all. Mason knows he needs full time help with the dog…enter in Tess. Tess agrees to take on the dog full time. Mason knows there is more to Tess then she is showing and she is bring feelings to him that he didn’t think he could have.
This was a feel good, sweet romance (bonus was the dog)..loved it.
Fun, relaxing, and heartwarming. Tess and Mason just made me smile. Mason is at his wits end caring for his sister’s slobbering, unruly, completely out of control Mastiff. That’s how Tess enters his life. Tess is working three jobs while finishing up her degree. Trying hard to get her life back on track. She doesn’t have time for the uptight, stoic Mason Coleman. The last thing she needs is a man distracting her. When he makes her and offer she can’t afford to refuse she caves into helping him. Mason has no idea how Tess will turn his well ordered world upside down!
You don’t want to miss this one. I highly recommend it.
A fun and flirty story. Tess and Mason both struggle with trust issues. Tess hides behind her clothes and the dogs she cares for. Mason uses his looks and charm as armor. When they meet they become the weakness in each other’s world. As they hang out, laugh, and experience struggle together they find that they love each other. They realize that love is not weakness but strength.
This was enjoyable, not fantastic but easy to past the time. So we meet Tess who had a difficult past and due to that she was untrusting and stubborn. I liked her but sometimes I wanted to shake her, yes I get the difficult past but sometimes too much is just that too much. We also meet Mason, who is a cute and a sweetheart to his friends, yet he is a commitment phobe and yet he is interested in Tess who he is will have a difficult time to get thru, but what does he want? What bugged me is that if they just would have talked, communicated than they could have avoided much, but then we wouldn’t have had a book..Anyhoo that was my issue.
Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) Voluntarily reviewed with my own thoughts and opinions.
Tess Papion is a busy woman on a mission, she is working three jobs, taking classes, and determined to get her life back on track. She doesn’t have time for men, or the headaches they bring along with them. After seeing her mother fail time after time in the love department she has no desire to give it a try either… but she didn’t plan on meeting a man quite like Mason Coleman either!
The moment they meet the sparks start flying and tensions are high, but she is determined to keep her libido in check, and keep him at bay… but unfortunately her heart has other plans!!
Between the pages of Heartbreaker you will meet a feisty heroine with a serious dislike for love, and a playboy venture capitalist that doesn’t do love, but “love” doesn’t seem to agree with either of them! These two love birds try to fight the sparks bouncing around between them at every turn, but they soon learn their resistance is futile… and finally give in! This charming little tale had me smiling and giggling throughout, it’s lighthearted story line lifted my spirits and had my heart overflowing with joy. I highly recommend this one, it’s a can’t miss, feel-good romance story loaded with every necessary to leave you smiling!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
