Heartbreak Warfare is Jenna’s big come backstory. After getting divorced from who she thought was her perfect mate, Jenna is off to Vegas for a conference. The conference is a big deal for her professional life, but she has no idea its a big deal for her love life as well! But, can she let go of the insecurities and the fears she has to see what’s in front of her? This was a great story and I really liked Jenna. Story was well written and the other characters are relate-able.
I honestly was not expecting this book to be as good as it is. I saw “debut by author” and instantly thought, at least I get to see how she begins. I WAS AMAZED at how I went from that mentality to looking up from the last page and thinking “I just read this in one sitting.” Yes that is how good this book is. It is so well written the emotions and the scenarios feel real. I could visualize what was happening and feel how each person felt. This isn’t a typical movie star meets a waitress (or in this case party planner) second chance romance type book. It is about betrayal, lust, lies, deceit, friendship and of course love. The chemistry is a bonus.
Look past the “debut” and fall in love with Heartbreak Warfare like I did.
Drama, drama, drama. This book kept it alive. I had to feel for the heroine because she kept getting hit
after hit. The ending was kinda smooth for all of the rest of the book

This is a great debut novel and amazing start to the series. I am honestly amazed that this is a debut novel because the writing just flowed and had me engrossed to the story from start to finish wanting to find out what happens next. I enjoyed every single minute of it and never wanted it to end. It was well developed, well written and thought out. It was sweet, steamy and a tiny bit suspenseful romance. The characters are amazing and so likeable; loveable and endearing, even though sometimes challenging. It’s easy to fall for them. They have depth, they are complex and perfectly imperfect with complicated pasts.
Jenna is an event planner and blogger. She is funny and smart, loveable, hardworking and independent. She is jaded from her previous relationship and divorce.
Cal is a television actor on his way up to the big screen. He is good lookig, charming, down to earth, and loyal.
Cal and Jenna are amazing. Their love story is one emotional rollercoaster ride that will have you rooting for them from the beginning and to get the second chance at love. I love the way they met and the way they were spending time together. I enjoyed their flirty banter. Their connection and pull exist from the they met. Cal loves and cherishes Jenna. He wants more with her but Jenna isn’t convincied he can really be interested in her. They are both flawed and complex. I think that at the beginning neither of them is looking for a relationship, but neither of them can deny the strong connection they feel nor the fiery chemistry. Cal and Jenna are passionate and intense. I love the dates they went to, the way they were getting to know each other and their easy going manner. They are a bit angsty. Their love isn’t easy – it’s filled with so many obstacles, lies and misunderstandings but I love how honest and truthful they are. They both took a leap of faith and courage to start something. I loved the epilogue and the happy ending they got.
This is my first book by this author but certainly won’t be the last. Seriously read it, you won’t be disappointed. Off to read the second book. Highly recommend it!
While I admit this isn’t the genre I normally read (Book was suggested by a friend) I really enjoyed the story! At the beginning of the story, as it was building backstory I was unsure if it was something that I would enjoy BUT as I continued reading I found myself pulled into the story and not wanting to put it down until it was finished. The chemistry that Jenna and Cal had was amazing – while they don’t seem like it at first they are perfect matches for each other. I love Jenna’s relationship with Robert and Layla – they have the no bulls**t relationship that everyone needs at some point.
The only thing in the book that I was unsure about where the time jumps… while they were well placed in the story – it was different to be reading and then be like BAM four years later… however this DID NOT deter me from devouring this book.
I am extremely excited to see what comes next in this series – even though it is dealing with different characters!
Who doesn’t love a big-time movie star romance? Get reading to fall for Cal!
I don’t give out 5 Stars very often but believe me this book deserves all of them and more!
Heartbreak Warfare is book one in the Let Me In series. It is the author’s debut novel but believe me you never would have guessed that this is her first book. The storyline is amazing, the characters are amazing and the writing is amazing!
Jenna and Cal have instant chemistry which could be felt between the two of them right from the start. The other characters throughout the story also quickly became some of my favorites. I was laughing out loud more than once at some of the things that went on between them.
Of course no book would be complete without some drama thrown in and believe me there was definitely lots of that. I was feeling so many emotions while reading and a few times I wanted to shake some sense into Cal.
I can’t wait to dive into the second book in the series! This is a must read book for sure! – By Alisa
Jenna has had a rough time since her marriage ended. Meeting Cal in first class was supposed to be a fun weekend in Vegas but he wanted more. When she gives him her email he promised to keep in touch but when that stops she decides it’s for the best and decides to try to move on with her life but what happens when the past catches up with her.
Jenna heart broken by the end of her marriage and avoiding anything relationship wise. That is until a chance meeting on a plane of the hot actor Cal. A week together in Vegas and that should be it but unbeknown to them both that week will change their lives forever especially Jenna. The twist and turns of this and the lies to hurt Jenna and the lies to protect her will have you needing morebut how can she forgive or forget it all. This is the first book from this author and totally wasn’t what i was expecting and blew me away. I couldnt put this book down and stayed up way to late needing to read to find out what was gonna happen and how it would turn out, i was on the edge of my seat. Cant wait to read book two Layla’s story. Highly recommended as a must read.
I love this book. The characters are well developed and relatable.
Cal is my book boyfriend. Did you read that? Cal is mine!
I’m thankfully to Jessica Marin for reaching out to me. Otherwise I would have never known about this gem of a book. Ok so the nitty gritty….
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, or at least that’s what everyone says.
Jenna owns a party planning company. She is heading to Vegas for a conference. Vegas is the land of fun. What she doesn’t bargain for is Cal. A Hollywood actor who sweeps her off her feet. They have a whirlwind romance, that ends too soon. Jenna heads home with a promise to email Cal. Things don’t go as planned and the souvenir that Cal gave her is now front page news.
Cal doesn’t understand why Jenna isn’t emailing him like she promised. Guess he felt more for her than she did him. Moving on should be easy yet he can’t get passed Jenna. Every woman reminds him of her. What can he do? She hasn’t reached out to him in years. Then the news reports on Jenna and as much as Cal is excited to see her, he is also upset that she lied to him. His love for Jenna hasn’t diminished. If anything he loves her more. Can they work it out?
Cal loves and cherishes Jenna. He is devastated when he doesn’t hear from her. Yet somehow his love doesn’t diminish over time. A great love story that will sweep you off your feet.
Me. Marin I will forever be a fan of yours and I look forward to the next book in this series.
I have to be honest, the first 65% percent of this novel were hard to completely pull me in. I loved the interaction with Cal and Jenna, and I prayed on every star in the sky to know what Cal was thinking! While at times the inner dialogs of Jenna were almost robotic, but when she interacted with those around her, she really opened up and I could see her be the woman she was meant to be.
The last 35%… holy moley, talk about a roller coaster ride of emotions. Was I mad at Cal too? Or more pissed at Layla? No wait… what?! So much more connection with all the characters, and when it was over I was lost and wanting the next book like NOW!
What a way to start off a writing career! Thanks for sharing a story that I am sure was hard to part with. Hats off, Jessica
Heartbreak Warfare is the first installment in the Let Me In series by Jessica Marin.
Cal Harrington is an actor. Jenna is a blogger and an event planner. When they get together in Vegas its only supposed to be for the week. But the heart isn’t one to be ignored.
Typically this is where I would start in about getting lost in the book because it was just that great. However, I am not one to lie and I could not get into this book at all. I usually go for these types of books but for some reason the main characters didn’t have that spark for me. I felt that their chemistry was forced and that Jenna moved a bit fast after meeting Cal, especially considering she had sworn off men. There just needed to more of connection and maybe a little of courting on Cal’s part.
Don’t get me wrong, the writing is good and the story one that I would normally love. I just wasn’t invested in these two as a couple. They didn’t work together for me.
Maybe the next installment to this series will capture my attention better.
3 stars.
