He hired her to catch a thief, little did he know, she’d steal his heart. After serving fifteen years in the Army, Sage Reynolds is used to being rootless and spending her life on the road. When she drifts into Sapphire Falls she’s so deep in debt she has no choice but to take a job with an up and coming private security firm–even though the first time she meets her handsome boss she discovers … discovers he’s a chauvinistic caveman.
Desperate for help, Levi hired Sage sight unseen under the assumption she was a man. Boy was he wrong. Unfortunately, he needs an experienced security expert to help stem the rash of burglaries in town, not a gorgeous woman who distracts him to no end and upends his carefully ordered life.
Now they’re forced to learn to trust each other and time is of the essence as the town’s people are becoming restless and the burglaries seem to have no end.
Don’t miss the first story in the exciting Bluegrass Security series. PJ Fiala will keep you turning pages into the night!
“This book was originally released in the Chandler County series as Missing the Spark. To better reflect the genre, the cover and series title have changed, but the content remains the same.”

Heart Thief is book 1 in the new Bluegrass Security series by PJ Fiala and a great start!!
Sage Reynolds has been 15 years of her life in the army now out and drifting she applies for a job at Bluegrass Security where she’s hired site unseen. When she shows up for work she doesn’t expect a boss who believes women shouldn’t be in the security business…
Levi, retired military needs more help with his new security company and he hires a man named Sage but when he shows up for the job Levi discovers he is really a she!!
Oh my, now what happens…does Levi keep Sage, work together to solve the robberies, develop a trust that each is the best at what they do and keep the sparks from taking over???
This story was a short, sweet and happy ever after to say the least. Sage and Levi try to understand their relationship. It’s a nice little hometown story with friendly people and good old country living. This is one where you will be happy with who and why they find the there way into each others life. Excellent read! I give it 5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader’s Copy.
I really enjoy when other authors I enjoy reading write in one of my favorites series. Such is the case with Heart Thief.
Sapphire Falls is one of my all-time favorite series and PJ Fiala does a great job making Heart Thief a seamless part of the series.
The book has just the right amount or romance and suspense.
Looking forward to reading the next book in the Bluegrass Security series.
This was an excellent story. As usual Patti does an excellent job of writting a book with excellent charactors. Eli spent 25 yrs in the Army and his trust in women was distroyed when his fiance cheated on him with his best friend. Sage was a snag for him and also an Army vet. He thought a man was applying for the job at his security firm. Boy was he surprised. They become close but as usual things get in the way. There were a lot of interesting events going on and of course the incidents with the thefts. There were some sad points in this book and funny parts with Chuck. Great job.

This is the 1st book in a new series from this talented author. Levi is retired from the military and has started a security company in a small town. Sage is hired unseen, and when she turns up for work, Levi is a total chauvinist as he thought she was a man. Sage was in the army for 15 years and returned home to care for her ill dad, but when he passed she is financially forced to accept the job with Levi. This is a well written story which had me hooked and intrigued throughout, and I look forward to reading more in this addictive series.
The great storyline and well developed characters had me hooked from the very beginning! As I turned each and every page I felt like Levi and Sage jumped from the pages and pulled me right into their story as it effortlessly unfolded!
Letting go of their demons to have a future together
This is a story of Sage after being in the Army 15 years and then leaving it. She’s wondering what to do now and is in debt applies for a job at Bluegrass Security. Levi is the owner of Bluegrass Security and started it two years ago. He needs another employee as there are a string of burglaries in town. He sees Sages application and hired her sight unseen thinking she’s a he! When they meet it fire works as they don’t get along. He fires her for a two week trial. Will these two who have trust and issues in the past come together and work to find the burglar? And will the attraction they are fighting get in the way? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This is actually a re release of a previous series it was originally released as Missing the spark I never read it first time around but was highly delighted to sink my teeth into it this time
This Levi and Sage’s story He threw everything into his military career after receiving a dear John letter from his fiance who then went on to marry his best friend This has coloured his dealing with all women in his life since he would never trust a woman ever again This has affected him so much that now that he has retired after 25 years in the military with he starts his new security business in Sapphire Falls Nebraska not Kentucky where he grew up and his friends live he can’t risk running into her or his friend. When there is a spate of burglaries in the area he employs Sage Reynolds a expert in surveillance over the internet for a two week job. Imagine his horror when he discovers Sage isn’t the man he was expecting but is actually a woman that manages to push all his buttons. Sage doesn’t know if she will be able to handle working with the chauvinistic Levi but keeps on telling herself it is only two weeks as the mystery of who is robbing all the homes in the area and Levi’s friends come to visit with an offer he will have to think about. These two will have to rethink their attitude towards one another as love starts to blossom but at the end of two weeks will he allow her to walk away. This is a fast paced story that draws you in and keeps you engaged until the very last page A great start to a new series
A great start to a new series by this author! The characters were well developed and the storyline is intriguing. This story centers around Levi and Sage and their convoluted romance. Levi started a security company in a small town where they don’t get much business but he stays afloat doing business in neighboring towns. He is in desperate need of a security expert and he thinks Sage fits the bill so he hires Sage site unseen, only when he meets Sage he can’t be more put off. She (and that is the issue with Levi) is ex-military and a total smart a$$ but she is a good fit for the team. But they have more in common than appears on the surface- both were hurt physically as well as emotionally therefore they don’t trust easily. They are hired to solve a string of robberies in town and they grow closer together. Can they work together to solve the case? Will Sage leave after her two week trial period? I look forward to reading about the other characters that were introduced in this first book.
Heart Thief is a great start to the series. This is the first book that I’ve read by P.J. Fiala, and I love her writing style! Sage and Levi are the perfect match. I really enjoyed their story & I look forward to reading the next book in the Bluegrass Security Series!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary Advance Reader Copy.
I just finished reading an early copy of Heart Thief and if this book is any indication, this is going to be a great series! (Note – I have come to realize that this story is a reissue of Missing The Spark which was published in 2016 however I have never read that book) Levi Jacobson is the owner of LJS. It’s his private security business in Sapphire Falls. It’s a quaint town but it has been having a lot of recent break-ins and with a busy upcoming festival taking place Levi has hired a temporary security specialist. Sage Reynolds is former Army. After leaving the service she took care of her dying father and then settled his affairs, She needs a job even though she dreams of having her own security business in a larger city. She accepts this position online and hopes for the best. Levi was shocked that Sage was a woman and Sage is shocked at Levi’s attitude. These two don’t get off on the best foot but they each are willing to do what needs to be done to get the work accomplished. Their biggest obstacle is the sizzling attraction between them. They both have some scars inside and out but the time has come for healing. This is a great enemies to lovers with a fun cast of characters that I am so looking forward to reading more about in future books. Heart Thief is told from dual POV and will give you laughs, sparks, a bit of angst and a small mystery.
Starting over is never easy, but when your new employer that hired you sight unseen thinks you are a man, you find yourself having to prove your worth. Sage not only takes the job with an up and coming investigator she proves her worth while also catching Levi’s eye. But can they work together if they start to have feelings for each other? Or will other opportunities end the two before they can solve the case? With a storyline that catches your attention from the opening pages and characters that interact beautifully with each other PJ Fiala once again starts off another series with a hit. I cannot wait to read more in this series.

I received a free copy of the full length novel Heart Thief: Bluegrass Security Book 1 by PL Fiala and this review was given freely.
A mildly steamy fasted paced seasonal Holiday romantic suspense featuring ex-military characters and set in small town Sapphire Falls, Nebraska at Halloween. The book opens with attraction and a controversy but ultimately ends happily. LJS security business owner Levi must juggle solving a rash of break ins, training new staff, pressure from his best friend to join his friend Sam’s security team in Kentucky and, fight his attraction to the unexpectedly female new arrival ex-Army intelligence officer Sage Reynolds. Interesting and easy flowing with realistic characters, this is a good introduction to the series.
4 ½ solid stars for this first book in a new series, Bluegrass Security. Levi and Sage are both ex military at different points of their lives. Sage has had to start over after spending all her savings on caring for her ailing father, then paying off his debts upon his death. She agrees to take a 2 week job, sight unseen, to try and start building her nest egg again to open her own security company.
Levi has been hiding out in Sapphire Falls, Nebraska after his wife divorced him to marry his best friend while he was overseas. Taking an IED while deployed pretty much solidified his never being normal again. His body aches every day and he can’t get around as well as he once could. He is happy to have a new guy starting at his security firm for the next 2 weeks. Hmm maybe he shouldn’t have assumed Sage was a man.
Sage and Levi start off on the wrong foot but quickly realize they have a mutual attraction to one another. Sage isn’t looking for a relationship and neither is Levi, he is still living in the past. When thefts start occurring in their small town, the company is called upon to investigate and set up security cameras to try and catch the thief. Will they be able to work together effectively or will their attraction make things awkward?
When Dirks and Sam head into town as well, things start to get interesting. Dirks and Sage have history as do Sam and Levi. But it’s the former that has Levi’s emotions all up in arms. He can’t be falling for Sage, can he?
This is my first read by the author, though I have quite a few on all my TBR lists. Apparently this is a book that was previously published with the title “We’re going to make it” as part of the Sapphire Falls Universe series. I’m not sure if this was a publishing issue, looks to have been part of the kindle world era, or what. That being said I never read the previous so it was new and fresh to my eyes. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy without expectations. Overall, I loved the story line and can’t wait to read more about this new fabulous foursome and all their shenanigans. I’m hoping Chuck made the move with them from Sapphire Falls to make that a fivesome, I believe the description coming in the blurb from Sam’s book describes him so fingers crossed.
Great book about letting go of old hurts and getting past preconceived notions. Levi runs his own security company and hires a new employee that at he thinks is a man. Sage has been in the military for a while and is very competent to do the job she was hired for. I loved how Sage is able to break through Levi’s ideas and show him what she is capable if. I also loved how Levi realized her worth early on. These two had instant chemistry and they thoroughly explored it. They also worked well together to solve a rash of thefts that is out of the ordinary. There is not over the top drama, which I enjoyed, though there is some conflict. Great writing and interesting characters. I really enjoyed this and look forward to more from the characters introduced in this book.
The first story in this series, takes us to the small town of Sapphire Falls.
Levi Jacobson, former Army man, has been in town two years and owns a security company. He has just hired Sage Reynolds for a 2 weeks trial for the town’s festival. Both have been hurt physically and emotionally. Thus carrying a great deal of baggage and a past that still haunts them.
Their first encounter was less than stellar but after some bumpy steps the attraction grows while they try to solve the mystery of the robberies in town.
The story which introduces us to a cast of characters likely to have their own stories, has some mystery, romance and one to be enjoyed in an afternoon of leisure.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
The characters are flawed, hurt, scarred and very, very human. I love the way they seem so real and likeable although it seems like the man is a bit misogynistic. No superheroes here, but they have skills in many ways, being ex military now working in security. They have a great sense of loyalty, friendship and love. Unfortunately the instant love doesn’t come with a sense of self confidence. There are issues to be solved and miscommunication between the two. As they work together to solve a series of burglaries the attraction can’t be denied. Slowly they solve both the case and work out the way forward as a couple. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and hope to see more of them.
Heart Thief is the first book in the Bluegrass Security series, it is well-written and has a sweet and steamy suspenseful romance storyline. The story is set in a charming small town and Sage is the newest hire at Levi’s security firm, having left her hometown after her father’s passing. Now, alone in a new town and attracted to her boss, hot on the trail of solving a case and nervous about leaving her heart with Levi when her contact is up.
A wonderfully charming story, the characters are incredibly likable, relatable and stubborn. Yes, Levi, I’m talking to you!!!!! I can’t wait for more from the characters at Bluegrass…
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
A very good book that sucks you in from page one. Levi runs a security business and has hired Sage, who he thinks is a man but when she shows up he is taken aback. He tries to fire her. See he is still smarting from years ago when the woman he loves tote his heart out. Sage is ex military like him. They start working together. One minute he is nice to her the next he is biting off her head but when they did it is all it nothng. As we are following their story there are things going On in town. Sage is the one to figure it out. Can Sage and Levi make it work? Let’s hope so!
