Heart of the Texas Warrior by Eve Gaddy is book number four in the Heart of Texas series. This is Jessie McBride and Asher Chapman’s story.
Asher was a really good guy. He had so many issues that he needed to work through. He was always ready to provide assistance and help to others but didn’t always do what was best for him. Jessie had her own issues to work through too. This was a sweet and tender story.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Loved this book, very independent Jessie meets former Green Beret, Asher while doing physical therapy on her broken leg. A friendship develops with their mutual love of animals. Jessie rescues mustangs and Asher runs a foundation of rescue animals for veterans. The friendship develops into much more but Asher id hiding something from Jessie and will it break or make them?
Loved these characters, they are so much alike. Both are strong willed and independent. Great sexual chemistry between them. I loved the animals.
This is the fourth book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I am loving this town of Last Stand.
An accident brings independent cowgirl Jessie McBride and Green Beret Asher Chapman together in Eve Gaddy’s fourth installment of her Heart Of Texas series.
Jessie has her work cut out to fight Asher’s demons, and win the this warrior heart. Asher must find the courage and hopefully Jessie’s unconditional love and support of his friends is just enough for him to win the battle of the heart.
A great read from Eve Gaddy, always warm and heartfelt stories come from her romance basket!
We are back in Last Stand, TX and this old lady is not sleeping at all this week. Asher Chapman has been one of those characters who I have wondered about since I met him long ago in his brother Levi’s book. And yes we got to see him since in other Heart of Texas books since he runs the organization that trains service animals for veterans. Asher meets Jessie pretty much on the worse day of her life and we the readers do as well. It seems like fate literally through or drew Asher into Jessie path several times so that they could connect on the levels that they needed to to heal in the ways that they both needed too. Boy I am not giving y’all much am I? Well this book has so much to give you in so many ways. These two folks are so alike and need really need to be together and they just have to see it. This entire series is so good and author Eve Gaddy gives us gut true experiences that our vets have when they return home from war. And thank heavens there are places like Asher’s and Jessie’s out there for those or us all, not just vet who need them. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. Hope it is Liam’s story.
I was given this arc from Tule Publishing in exchange for an honest review. This is the fourth book in the series and I have read the previous 3 as well. Book 4 is the story of the single girl, Jessie in the McBride clan of Last Stand Texas. At the start of the book, Jessie is driving home and is involved in a very bad car accident. A Good Samaritan Named Asher stops to see if he can help. The driver that hit her is in shock and not able to tell 911 where they are. Asher helps calm Jessie and gets help.
A while later she’s at PT and runs into Asher. They realize she was the accident victim and they talk. They realize they have a lot in common with both of them rescuers for animals. Asher was a green beret in Iraq and he lost his leg in an ambush. He’s at the hospital to get a new prosthetic leg. They start to date and it gets serious and he worries about her staying the night because he has nightmares and fears he would harm her.
Asher trains his rescued animals to help the veterans and others unable to get a service animal. He provided a dog that he’s trained to Jessie to help her get around with a broken femur. He also sends a friend he served with to help out Jessie with her horses. Jessie’s parents and their housekeeper are traveling and Jessie doesn’t tell them about the accident. She and Asher have a lovely romance but there is some angst when Asher tries to hide his PTSD and his heart as he’s afraid of having it broken.
It is great reading this book and seeing some of the beloved McBride family and their girlfriends again that we met in the previous books. I like reconnecting with the characters we are familiar with. I like seeing how interconnected the Last Stand books are. I loved this series and this book was very entertaining. This was definitely 5 stars.
Jessie and Asher’s love story Heart of Texas Warrior by Eve Gaddy, book four in her Heart of Texas series, was a wonderful, sexy, emotional and enjoyable tale. Strong, independent Jessie McBride meets former Green Beret Asher Chapman for the second time while doing PT for a leg that was broken in a car accident; the first time was at the scene of the accident. These two share an instant attraction and learn that they share a number of interests. Jessie rescues and raises mustangs on her family’s ranch, while Asher established and runs a foundation that matches veterans, who don’t qualify for service dogs, with shelter animals. The magnetism and chemistry between them fuel their physical connection. Asher knows that Jessie has no problems dealing with his physical wounds, but he struggles to believe that any woman could handle his secret; one he is unable to even face. As much as he desires Jessie, and love her, he fears telling her what it is that haunts him, as he fears she will leave him; like his last girlfriend. Jessie is not fooled by Asher and is confused by his behavior about spending the night and what is keeping him from sharing his secrets. Asher needs to learn how to trust Jessie to love all of him before he loses the best thing that could ever happen to him.
Ms. Gaddy wrote a wonderful and emotional story that is definitely not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sexual chemistry, amusing banter, and endearing characters giving Jessie and Asher a chance at a forever love and a future together. I highly recommend Heart of Texas Warrior to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Texas Heart of the Texas Warrior, Heart of Texas 4 is a blending of Last Stand, Texas and Whiskey River, Texas with a main character from each place. Then Eve Gaddy has not given the reader one warrior but two. Jessie McBride may have never served in the military like retired Green Beret Asher Chapman but she is still a force to be reckoned with. Two strong but idealistic people who meet with an instant attraction.
The interactions between these two were so much fun to read. Asher has his own battles that he is still fighting but manages Jessie’s grumpy determination with grace and humor. Their values, desire to make a difference in the world one horse or other animals at a time along with one hurting vet is nothing short of inspirational. Such wonderful characters that you want to get the best out of life which would be a loving life together.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Being a warrior is not always what you think it is. Being a warrior means you are stronger than you think inside. This is Jessie McBride’s story and we already know how strong she is because we know of her through her brother’s books. But she is way stronger than you can imagine although I can’t say much more since well plot points.
The other character in this story is Asher Chapman, he was a Green Beret and seriously wounded in combat. Asher has learned to live without his leg but he still struggles with PTSD. Many who served in the military struggle with PTSD and long term effects of injuries suffered during their military service. The struggles veterans deal with are not normally covered in romance novels nor do many in the general public realize the struggles nor do they understand them. I love how well Eve Gaddy handled this very complex yet daily struggle.
Is this a happily ever after story? Yes. Are there struggles? Yes. Is there drama? Yes. I love have Eve Gaddy handles delicate topics and her love stories. This is a book you really want to read and need to read. There is so much I can say about this story but again, I want you to read it and not give it away. If I could rate this higher than 5 stars, I would.
I did receive a copy of this novel from the publisher in advance in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
This is a book that draws you in there is so much emotion and angst without it been over the top and driving you away The book flows well and keeps you engaged until the very last page. While this is the fourth book in the series it is a total stand alone as each book is a about separate couple with only overlapping characters in it I had no trouble following the story even though I hadn’t read the previous books
Jessie McBride is the youngest of four siblings and the only girl she is totally involved in the breaking and raising of mustangs on her family ranch so when she breaks her leg she becomes grumpy and frustrated at not been able to do the work she loves. When she is sent for physical therapy for her leg she meets Asher He is a returned vet who is also going through therapy for his injuries but he has injuries much deeper than the physical ones on show and not all are related to his military service . He works connecting veterans with animal companions. The attraction between them is off the charts but can she break down the walls he has placed around himself and will he ever stop the drawing her to him then pushing her away. Can they have a future together You will have to read to see.

A match made in heaven…
When strong, independent cowgirl Jessie McBride meets former Green Beret Asher Chapman while doing PT for her broken leg, the two share an instant bond. Jessie rescues and raises mustangs, while Asher established and runs a foundation that matches veterans with shelter animals. The immediate, fiery physical connection between them is even stronger.
Unlike the girlfriend who left him after discovering the full extent of his injuries, Asher knows Jessie can handle his physical wounds. But he doesn’t believe any woman could handle the secret he can’t even face himself. Much as he wants her…and is becoming convinced he loves her, he can’t risk disclosing what haunts him.
Jessie can’t understand why Asher emotionally pulls her close only to push her away again. Can this wounded warrior learn to trust Jessie to love all of him before he drives her away for good?
This is Jessie McBride and Asher Chapman’s story.
Blind dates suck.
Jessie McBride knew that better than anyone. But even knowing this, when Amanda Wheatridge, an old college friend, wanted to set Jessie up with a friend of hers, she’d said yes. Amanda knew her, right? She wouldn’t deliberately set her up with a bum, right?
So on a cold, dreary day in early January, Jessie had driven over to Austin to meet her date at a steak house. She’d insisted on going to Austin rather than meeting her date in Last Stand because she felt more in control that way. Besides, there was a new saddle and tack store she’d been wanting to go to and hadn’t yet had the chance. So this had seemed like the perfect opportunity. She wanted a new saddle, though she didn’t need one. But hey, since when did need have anything to do with it?
Asher Chapman was no more than a minute or so away when he saw—and heard—the wreck. A small do-it-yourself moving van broadsided a pickup. The pickup spun and landed in a ditch but it didn’t roll. It sat upright, if severely mangled. The van was in the middle of the highway, its front end smashed. He pulled up as close to the wreck as he could without disturbing the scene and parked. “Stay, Maggie,” he told the golden retriever in the seat beside him. His dog didn’t need to be poking around with all that glass and metal scattered everywhere. He went to see what he could do.
The moving van’s door was open. There was a man talking on his phone, gesticulating wildly.
“Are you all right?” he shouted, heading for the pickup. From what Asher could see he looked okay but you never knew.
Heart of the Texas Warrior by Eve Gaddy is a 4 star book.

This book gives you all the feels.I love and respect the military ,so when this story came to me about a wounded Green beret Asher ,I knew it was going to be good. Ms.Gaddy is one of my top authors to read, she never seems to disappoint her readers.
Both a sweet and steamy romance, this book is an enjoyable read. I really like Jessie, who is honest and always outspoken about how she feels. Asher doesn’t want to believe that he has PTSD and is keeping that secret from Jessie and himself. I received a free copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. Both Jessie and Asher were brought to life for me. I like how they are both rescuing animals and how Asher is trying to help fellow veterans. I also like how their friendship and attraction grew before they became intimate. I really like this book.
This is a delightful story of love finding the perfect match if they can resolve some big problems.

4.5 Stars
Heart of the Texas Warrior by Eve Gaddy is book four in the Heart of Texas Series. As with another recent series I read from Tule Publishing, I only read the last two books. But that’s ok because I had no trouble following along with any aspect. Each book, while interconnected by family, has its own premise. That’s not to say, I won’t go back and read the series’s prior books. I definitely will as soon as I can find some time. I loved all the characters, including the McBride siblings that I haven’t read yet.
Eve Gaddy is definitely not a new author for me. I have enjoyed all the books I have had the pleasure of reading, by her.
Jessie and Asher…..
Jessie McBride is the youngest of four siblings and a pure cowgirl. While her older brothers are either doctors or a paramedic/firefighter, Jessie stays true to her heart’s desire by running the family horse aspect of the ranch. Raising and rescuing mustangs isn’t just a job for Jessie. It’s her passion. So, when she breaks her leg and is unable to work as usual, she is beyond grumpy and frustrated. Jessie is the type of person who prefers to do things herself, no matter her limitations.
Asher has been honorably discharged from the military for the last couple of years. Asher has his own issues and as a result, he is afraid to be completely honest with Jessie for fear of losing her. Unfortunately, Asher has had a past experience which makes him very hesitant of opening up to Jessie about his fears. I won’t go into any details because every aspect of Jessie and Asher’s story is entertaining and heartwarming. I truly loved Asher’s character. He was so perfect for Jessie and her stubbornness. Jessie was also perfect for Asher. Her love for him was unconditional. Their whole relationship was endearing, and believable. And boy oh boy, there were some steamy moments between them.
If you love romance with ex-military heroes and headstrong heroines, with the addition of some absolutely loving dogs, I recommend this book. Actually, I recommend this book to anyone looking for sigh-worthy ending regardless of the premise and trope.
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂
I LOVED this book! Eve Gaddy has added another great book to the McBride series of Last Stand, Texas.
It had me turning the pages from the very first to the last.
Jessie McBride is a true cowgirl and did not follow the family’s footsteps to be part of the medical field. She breads Spanish Mustangs and rescues wild horses until a accident forces her to stop and take a break. In comes Asher Chapman to the rescue. Asher is a former Green Beret that has a foundation that matches Veterans with stray dogs. They first meet by accident one night. Then as luck would have it they met again in Physical therapy. They are a true mach made in heaven if only Asher can admit his problem. Can Jessie help him to understand she isn’t like his last girlfriend and give love a chance.
I have loved this series and would definitely recommend it. You will love it I promise.
I was given a ARC in return for my honest review
I enjoyed revisiting Last Stand and the McBride family.
