Can you put family duty above your own happiness for generations
So I have to say that after reading the first couple of pages of Heart of Ice I was really not sure what this story was going to be about and where it was going. But a bit more into the story and it settled down into an actual story and I liked it.
The story-line was good and the characters were pretty well developed and ended up having some depth to them for a shorter story, both the main and supporting characters. This was an entertaining and fun reading experience.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
I liked this story because it told of two races that were on friendly terms with each other. One was human and the nomadic goat people, Khazarass. I thought of them as the gypsy type. They didn’t farm or raise animals, they were nomadic, they brought happiness to others and only come around every ten years. Fantastic world building with outstanding characters too.
Princess Geli has come of age that gentlemen are starting to come around to woo her, she will be the next Queen when her father steps down. She has had a contentious relationship with her mean and hateful father, but she does get alone well with her step-mother. It just so happens that at the ball where men will start to court her is when the Kahazarass will be showing up after being away for 10 years. When they were here last time Geli was quite friendly with Krampus and can’t figure out why he is so rude and mean to her in front of everyone.
Krampus has spent the last 10 years brokenhearted for Geli. He felt that she made him fall in love with her when she had tackled him and ran kisses all over his face. His people kept teasing him about it for years, so now he wants to get back at her for making him love her when they both know that nothing can come of it. Her father will never let them be together and he wants nobody but her. When she tries to get back at him with kindness, it backfires and they get even closer.
Geri overhears her grandmother and an older Khazarassi man and realize that her grandmother was in love with him over all these years but couldn’t be with him. Then finds out that one of the reasons her father hates them is because his first wife, Geri’s mother, ran off with one of them. It didn’t matter that her father was mean to her and was sleeping with another woman in her bed. Her father had a mean heart about everything but was just about to go to war with them because of his prejudice.
