He’s forged from heaven. She’s promised to hell.Professor Maximus Kane can no longer deny his passion for his stunning yet mysterious student, Kara Valari. It’s a crisis for which there seems no solution, until the explosive secrets of Maximus’s bloodline are exposed. Nothing has ever meant more to him than saving the treasure of her life and the fire of her heart.
While earth’s lower realms seek payback for Kara’s transgressions, Kara finds a new ally in a surprising place: the Valari matriarch herself. I wonder if love is worth fighting for, then I look at you. I’m ready for war…
Why am I not surprised that Book 2 Heart of Fire is spectacular and magnificent? When you combine the minds and talents of Meredith Wild and Angel Payne, you just know this second book in the series will be stunning, and it was.
Maximus and Kara have taken their relationship to a new level. The aftermath of the bond they have sealed together has caused an uprise in the demon world. Secrets are uncovered that can threaten the love Maximus and Kara share. Emotions run high in this story, my own included. Maximus has the fight of his life and Kara’s ahead of him. Will he be up for the challenge to go to battle to ensure they remain together? I look forward to Fate of Storms and hope that all the questions are answered.
Heart of Fire is the second book in the Blood of Zeus series by Meredith Wild and Angel Payne. This is a continuous series, and you need to read book one before this one. Therefore, my review will be short and spoiler free.
In the second installment of Blood of Zeus, Maximus and Kara are trying to come to terms with the revelations that ended book one. The Valari’s decide that thrusting them into the spotlight will keep her safe from the repercussion of her actions. Yet this may just put Maximus into danger himself.
Heart of Fire is filled with outings for the paparazzi, some sweet moments for Max and Kara, and some explosive intimate scenes between the two of them. It’s also filled with Gods (pleasant and not so pleasant ones), demigods, demons and all the chaos that these individuals bring with them.
The Blood of Zeus series continues to bring undeniable passion along with a new modern take on Greek mythology. It’s exciting to find the parallels and similarities to well known myths and the way the authors bring them to life.
You should read Blood Of Zeus book 1. So you can get a better fell for the characters.
When two opposite worlds collide. You get an amazing, action packed read. By two awesome writers that have a way with words. That will leaving you wanting more.
Omg!!! This book is amazing. Keeps you on your toes. The love between Maximus and Kara just keeps growing. And the odds against them just keep getting harder to ignore. So can’t wait to see what happens next. Meredith Wild Angel Payne
You’d think being the son of Zeus would have more benefits. Reading the story of Maximus & Kara is killing me!! These two are so hot & I’m dying to see how it ends. I’m absolutely loving the mythology aspect of this series with the Gods & demons. Impatiently waiting for the next book.
“He’s forged from heaven. She’s promised to hell.”
And what a tagline it is for the incredible roller-coaster of a romance that is for Maximus Kane and Kara Valari. The demi-god son of Zeus and the cursed, demon-born daughter can no longer deny their attractions to each other. But by indulging in their passion, consequences must be met and dealt with- Max with Alameda University and the Conduct Board, and Kara with her family and her “intended,” Arden Pietro. There’s a terrible price to pay for what they’ve done, and hell doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of it.
Maximus has no choice but to trust Z at his word, and as secrets finally come to light about Max’s identity and his past, the world spins. But with Kara, his world is complete. Whole. Passionate. Calm. When he’s away from her, all he can think about is her and how she fills his thoughts and sets his heart ablaze.
Kara has to rely on her mother, Veronica, to dig her and Maximus out of their mess. Yet even through the scrutiny of the world watching them, Veronica is able to portray her daughter as what she is- a Valari who fell in love and will continue to uphold the family name just as normal. But even as the paparazzi tails her, Maximus cannot escape the flashes of bursting light bulbs from cameras or the fire in Kara’s eyes whenever Arden is near.
Maximus and Kara try to survive on their borrowed time, continuing to reignite their passion with each and every kiss, touch, and adventure they partake in. How long can they last until the pressure from being LA’s hottest “it” couple makes them fall apart? Or will the gods above- and below- have a say as to what happens to these two who dare defy centuries of laws in the name of love?
THIS. WAS. AMAZING! <3 <3
4.25 stars–HEART OF FIRE is the second instalment in the contemporary, adult BLOOD OF ZEUS paranormal, mythological, romantic suspense series co-authored by Meredith Wild and Angel Payne focusing on university student Kara Valari and professor Maximus Kane. HEART OF FIRE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the event of book one BLOOD OF ZEUS.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Kara and Maximus) HEART OF FIRE follows in the aftermath of Maximus Kane’s discovery of his heritage, and the history of his mother’s relationship with a God among man. As the fall-out of Maximus’ relationship with his student Kara Valari comes under the scrutiny of the paparazzi, the students and the teaching staff, there is someone else determined to make Kara his own, no matter the cost or repercussions to everyone involved. What ensues is the ongoing relationship between Maximus and Kara, and the chaotic fall-out of betrayal, vengeance, obsession and lies.
Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Maximus’ best friend and fellow professor Jesse NOrth; Kara’s sister Kell, their mother Veronica Valari, their grandfather Giovani Valari, art collector Arden, Maximus’ mother Nancy Kane, his father, and the uncles he knew nothing about. We are introduced to Kara’s brother Jaden, and his best friend Rerek who is about to betray the man that he loves.
Like the first instalment BLOOD OF ZEUS, HEART OF FIRE is a story of family, secrets, power and gods; of mythological demons, angels, contracts and legends; of promises and love. The premise is captivating and heart breaking; the romance is passionate and emotional; the characters are energetic and determined. HEART OF FIRE ends on a cliff-hanger, you have been warned.
I have been dying for this book since the moment I finished Blood of Zeus. Meredith Wild and Angel Payne completely knocked it out of the park with the second book in this series. The moment it starts you are transported right back to where things left off for Maximus and Kara and from there it is an never ending ride that will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time.
More secrets are revealed. We get more family. More mythology. A connection between Maximus and Kara that is only growing deeper and deeper. Their relationship should be forbidden. A demigod and a demon. One belongs to the heavens and the other to hell, yet their chemistry is explosive. Their love is beautiful.
If you haven’t started this series I HIGHLY recommend it, even if paranormal romance isn’t your thing, you will still love this story and get lost in the world that Meredith Wild and Angel Payne have so beautifully created. I can’t wait to see how their story continues in book 3!
After the lineage bomb has been dropped, things for Maximus and Kara get kicked into high gear. More secrets, more breadcrumbs, more ulterior motives all make for an intriguing part two to their story. Once one hurdle is crossed, there are more for them to maneuver, and some they’re not even sure of yet. While the family tree takes an interest, things aren’t usually what they seem and now we’re on the edge of our seat until we get Fate of Storms.
WOW! The action never ends but Maximus and Kara’s love and devotion doesn’t either. It seems like everyone has an ulterior motive or, at least, their own reasons for “helping” them stay together. Will they be able to overcome all of the obstacles in their way? Will the world be the worse off if they do? Will the Gods let love win in the end? Hopefully, we will find the answers in the next book. I don’t think that my heart will be able to take the wait!
Meredith Wild and Angel Payne are each amazing writers on their own. But joined together to bring us the Blood of Zeus series? Brilliant! Epic!
This book blew me away! There are twists and turns in Heart of Fire that will make you crazy and desperate for more! I absolutely loved it!
Wow, my heart is pounding while simultaneously breaking. All of the feels are amped and more intense in book two. There is so many moving pieces to the puzzle of Kara and Maximus’s HEA. Truths are revealed, secrets exposed and deceit abounds. This action packed story will keep you guessing, have you cheering for Kara and Max and then simultaneously ripping your heart out. That ending, just wow! The love that Kara and Max have for each other is endearing.
“You’re the fire on my ocean. The sunset that’s worth waiting for.” ~ Maximus
HEART OF FIRE…..YESSSS THERE WAS A FIRE IN MY HEART WHILE READING THIS!!!!
If you read book 1 in this series….YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!!!!!
There is so many wonderful characters (aside from the main characters) that I can’t even pick a favorite. There was so many questions that were answered in this book and so many unexpected events that definitely left me wanting more. I NEED MORE!!!!!
Maximus and Kara’s story continues. Their love can it continue to stay stronger than the destiny is supposed to play out. They both fight for their love but they aren’t sure if what they feel in their world will be able to with stand the powers that be. They will break all the rules to prove gods and demons can and will show their love is strong enough.
There’s a storm brewing, and when the declaration of love professed between professor Maximus Kane and Kara Valari, it only intensifies the spark of war to be waged. With Maximus learning his true heritage and that of Kara in Blood of Zeus, there’s no denying that these two have a magnetic pull drawing them together. Will they be able to triumph the odds stacked against them, or are they destined to be ripped apart to fulfill a preordained role?
The only way to find out is to read Heart and Fire!
Forbidden Love!!
This book starts right we’re the last book ended.
Maximus and Kara have finally given in to the cravings but have drawn the attention of some very powerful beings. Not in a good way.
“What exactly do you plan to do with all that forbidden fruit, Miss Valari?”
Smoking hot just like that cover.
Secrets from the past come to light. Betrayal and a cliffhanger ending just leave you wanting more.
I always try to find one word that will touch on the book I am reviewing.
Seamlessly – smoothly and continuously, with no apparent gaps or spaces between one part and the next.
Meredith Wild and Angel Payne . . .
*have seamlessly put together a novel so tight you can’t tell where one’s writing starts and the other ends.
*have seamlessly moved us from Blood of Zeus, (#1) into Heart of Fire (#2).
*have seamlessly eased their way into a genre that is not their normal brand.
Heart of Fire continues the story of Maximus and Kara.
A love so devastatingly forbidden it has conjured up the powers that be.
A love so passionately strong nothing, to include the depths of hell will keep them apart.
The humanity these characters possess makes me forget they are only part human. They are good/bad; right/wrong; anger/forgiveness; resigned/determined; all the typical emotions known to mankind, but they are also a bit of hell and a smidgen of heaven.
Their determination to be together based on the obstacles placed before them, while respectfully ignoring the naysayers, creates an on the edge of your seat suspense. A story of evil embellished with good or would that be good intertwined with evil?
I guess I will have to wait for Fate of Storms to answer that question! *sigh*
Once again, I am lost in the storytelling ability of these ladies. To hold me hostage with their words in a PNR novel says a hell of a lot about them. As much as I read, PNR has never been my genre. But this one deserves all five stars from the heavens or all five pitchforks from hell! Great, fantastic, amazing job!
