Have you ever kept a secret?
Deception wars with love in this sweet contemporary western romance.
Strong-willed, successful, and determined, Callan Matthews lives the facade of a happy, wonderful life. Unfortunately, unbridled chaos runs amuck in the deep, dark places of her heart as she struggles to keep herself together. Her once beloved husband, Clay, tugs relentlessly at the last few … husband, Clay, tugs relentlessly at the last few threads keeping her from completely unraveling. His laid-back attitude only serves to drive her further away instead of drawing her back into his arms.
Easy-going cowboy Clay Matthews is a respected college professor. He’s the man family and friends turn to for help, or when they need a good laugh, since he’s a huge tease and practical joker. Life would be almost perfect, except for his relationship with his wife. Clay is completely baffled by Callan. He thought he knew everything there was to know about this woman but she’s turned into a mystifying female he barely understands. He’d give just about anything to recapture the feelings they used to share, but she seems to want no part of it.
Just when he decides to get to the root of the problem no matter the outcome, he discovers a secret she kept from him that’s too painful to bear and too big to forgive. Will their love be strong enough to withstand a revelation that could rock the foundation of their marriage?

Love this story about a man and woman that love so deeply. Their struggles with each other’s bad habits and secrets. Thank you for this enjoyable book!
The writing in this book is really good. The story line resonated with me because I had a parent like Callan’s mother, always telling me I wasn’t good enough or hadn’t done enough. The writer’s insights are spot on.
Romance lovers will root for Clay and Callan as they work to bring love back into their 14 year marriage.
A story showing how hiding the truth form one another can harm not just them but ourself too. And changes as we open up! You won’t want to put this down for sure!
A romance based on a marriage that was falling apart AND where the couple is still in love. A different premise, very well written..
A beautiful love story.
Good to see how the main characters overcome their wounds from the past.
Tenacity is not only where Clay and Callan live but it is what they use to make it work!
This one brought me to tears.
Sounds like such a fun book. Just discovered you by accident!
I loved this whole series. I loved the characters and the family connections and values. Even in turmoil, they displayed character and desire to find understanding and resolution.
love Shanna Hatfield’s books
Most marriages hit rough spots. You just have to hang in there and work to make things better. You have to keep reaching out and not expect the other person to always.make the first step
Way more going on than you expect when you look at the book. Wonderful human drama mixed with whimsy and fun
Steadfast marriage, never gave up.
Wow, this contemporary western by Shanna Hatfield was really unusual for her from all the stories I have read before. I loved it and couldn’t put it down. She has well complex developed characters in this story as she does in all her stories, but this one made me want to cry, laugh, and get a bit upset at the circumstances that the hero and …
A little sappy, but good story of how you can work through things. Liked the characters.
Loved this book. All marriages have troubles. This book walks you thought them.
Tragic in the sense of unbelievable deception in a marriage. Gushing of love were a little to frequent. At least there was a happy ending!
It was very interesting if you aren’t into Christian books. The characters occasionally pray but there’s no mention of answered prayers. They seem to turn to people for help and not a word about forgiving her mother for the abuse she suffered as a child.
One of my favorite reads. I loved the characters and hated for the story to end.
