This book was formerly titled PRAIRIE HEAT.He Shouldn’t Want Her…Blake Sinclaire knows he shouldn’t want Maddie Hansen – she’s the daughter of his family’s enemy, and not to be trusted. It doesn’t matter she’s got a mind that won’t quit, curves for days, and a mouth that drives Blake to distraction. Her father stole his family’s land, and Blake will do anything – anything to get it back. But … anything to get it back.
But one scorching kiss changes everything…
Super-scientist Maddie Hansen vowed never to return to Prairie and the feud that’s hounded her family for generations. When she discovers the sexy cowboy who saved her father’s life is none other than Blake Sinclaire, she’s forced to reconsider everything she thought about her family’s enemy- especially when his kisses keep her awake at night. But Maddie’s determined to hold Blake at bay, because everyone knows cowboys have nothing in common with scientists. Except when it comes to matters of the heart.
Blake’s plan to reclaim his land goes haywire when white-hot kisses turn into something more, but dark secrets stand between Blake and a shot at love. When they come to light, will he lose everything he holds dear, including Maddie?
A standalone, modern-day Hatfields & McCoys filled with family feuds, fake engagements, explosive secrets, memorable side-characters, and a Happily Ever After that might just make you swoon.

An excellent refreshing plot line. Loved the heat between the main characters!!
Great book
This is a familiar basis of a family feud impacting the offspring…. big twist on Romeo and Juliet. Intriguing characters as she breaks the cowboy family mode by becoming a brilliant at a young age scientist. The male lover is the neanderthal cowboy oldest trying to get back the family land.
This tory has interesting twists and turns. You gotta love the women in the small town. Her cousins are likeable and I would look forward to their stories.
Some hot sex scenes which can be skimmed/skipped by those who don’t like them.
GREAT character building with helping Maddie overcome her fears and learn to live outside her scientifically world. Also loved that Blake was a take-charge kind of guy since young, but had some secrets but he really had a big heart.
Wow! That just about sums up my opinion of this book. Great writing, excellent storyline, terrific drama and romance; all this written with heart and imagination. There is a property line and neighboring ranches feud which is at the heart of the book. Well, maybe not the heart, but definitely the center of conflict. The secrets held by each family bring tension and heartache. Blake Sinclaire has worked his whole life to support his family and keep the ranch out of the reaches of the bank. His father, the local drunk, left them in debt when he died, as well as, part of his ranch was now owned by his neighbor, Warren Hansen. Warren’s daughter, Maddie, left for college as a young teenager and had her Masters Degree by the time she was 20. Being a scientist, she felt she had to analyze everything in her life but she couldn’t figure out Blake. I loved this story, got the clench in my heart as problems nearly destroyed her and read on to the end as I didn’t want to put it down. Congratulations, excellent job of writing.
Really Loved Blake and Maddie . Great together
True love finds a way. It’s just some are smoother than others. Don’t give up. True. Love is worth it.
Lied this story. Couldn’t put it down
I suppose with examples like the Hatfields and the McCoys, it only makes sense to have a cowboy-themed version of Romeo and Juliet. The feud between Blake and Maddie’s families only goes back to their parents’ time, but there’s enough bad blood between them for a lot more generations. I really enjoyed watching Maddie discover how to let go of some of her tightly held control. I also liked seeing Blake realize that he’s not the only one who can do things and learn to accept help when it’s offered. This pair is going to make each other work for it every day they’re together, but it sure seems like they’re going to have a lot of fun doing it
Maddie is a physicist and does not plan on returning home. When her father has a massive heart attack, she must return. Blake is a rancher and plans to let his brothers have families. When he sees Maddie again, he can’t help but want her. Their families have been feuding for years and he tries to get back a lot of their land that the Hansen’s have. Maddie believe love is just messy emotions and doesn’t want anything to do with it. But Blake is breaking down her walls and the on,y hint between them is her job. Can they get over the past and live happily ever after?
Good story with sex and secrets. First time reading this author but not the last.
This is the second book that I read by this author. This is my first book in this series and I loved it. Even though Blake’s mixed up ideas about loyalty and protection was wrong his heart was in the right place. I enjoyed everything about this book and I’m excited to read the next book in the series which is Prairie Passion, Brodie and Jamey’s story. I have a feeling that it’s going to be a wild ride Yea. Until next time y’all happy reading.
Everything, great book to read on a rainy day, enjoyed it very much
Prairie Heat by Tessa Layne is an entertaining western romance. Ms. Layne has delivered a well-written book and filled it with fabulous characters. Blake is a rancher and wants to get a piece of land back that his father gambled away. Madison is a scientist and her father happens to own the land Blake wants. Their story is packed with drama, misunderstandings, sizzle and humor. I enjoyed reading Prairie Heat and look forward to reading more from Tessa Layne in the future. Prairie Heat is book 1 of the Cowboys of Flint Hills Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Prairie Heat was the first book I read from this author and I think I just found a new favorite author. I will be 1- clicking everything she puts out.
I really enjoyed this book. It has everything – love, growth, hurt, betrayal, crazy ex, crazy families, heart and sexy times.
What can I say about Blake, he was a definite book boyfriend. He is just an all-around good man who wanted to do right by his family. Some of his choices were a little misguided but his intentions were true.
Maddie was a character that at times I really liked her but there were other times I wanted to knock sense into her. To me, emotions are basic human characteristic. Everyone has them and most expresses them. So, I had a hard time relating to Maddie in a few scenes because she was acting almost like a robot. But I had to keep in mind, given how she was raised and then what happened with her first boyfriend, I might be closed off also.
This was a wonderful book and I can’t wait to read book two.
This book was just too hot for me! Some people may like that but I couldn’t handle it.
I fell in love with these characters and downloaded the next two books. You feel like your part of this community. The characters are dynamic and believable
I liked it and ordered the second one which I am reading now.
Very good. Realized after how many of her books I have!
Sex, sex, sex – yuck!
I very much enjoyed this story.
