Reese Jackson has tried to live up to the expectations that everyone else set for her, but it isn’t easy to do. At times she feels as if the world is going to swallow her whole and she can’t breathe. All the mistakes she’s made come back to trouble her and finding a way out seems impossible.Detective Dane Hunter has loved Reese since the first moment he met her over a decade ago, but she never … she never really saw him. Her strict upbringing wouldn’t allow for her to be rude to him; however, that same social standing dictated he would never be good enough for her either. Still, he longs for her and his heart waits hoping she will one day love him back.
Danger that is a part of both of their pasts comes back to haunt them and Dane is tasked with protecting Reese. Age old wounds fester within them with each passing day. Fighting for survival must be their priority, but it’s hard to ignore the pull of the heart.

I normally read Ms. Brower ‘s Regency books, so this was a first for me reading a contemporary novel by her. I really enjoyed it. No matter what genre she writes, she does an excellent job of creating the scenes and bringing them to life and always has excellent characters. There was plenty of drama and some danger for Dane and Reese to get through before their HEA, and I was on the edge of my seat, anxious to find out what happens next. Definitely a captivating and intriguing story. I have not read the other books in this series, but after reading this I definitely want to go back and catch up!

Romantic Suspense doesn’t begin to describe this novel.
This is an edge of your set, heart pounding, fear riddled story.
Past lives reconnect when a brutal killer escapes from prison.
Wonderful characters, great chemistry between the characters.
Just remember to BREATHE!!!

A secret love. Dane has loved Reese for ten years, ever since they were in high school but she never knew it. Dane was the result of an affair between his father and mother, but his half-brother Nolan, the legitimate one, has always been scheming, cruel and psychotic. No one saw it for years until he abused women, dated both Reese and her sister Claire, then kidnapped Claire and almost killer her, and killer other women. He’s been in prison for five years but when he escapes everyone is put on alert. As a police detective it is Dane’s job along with his partner (and Reese’s brother) Carter to bring Nolan in and keep Claire and Reese safe. But how will he stand to be around Reese 24/7 and not let his feelings show. She has never really noticed him except for the pit dance she gave him at their prom. This is my first book in this series and while it works standalone, it was immediately obvious that all of the characters and their lives are so Intertwined that you should really be reading the previous books first.
This was my first nonregency book by this author. I love the Romantic suspense genre and was super excited to branch in a new direction with Brower’s writings.
There were solid characters and storyline. Intensity, protection, long held love, and so much more. Some of the aspects could have been more developed rather than a bunch of facts just thrown in to get past them. Also, it’s not a clean romance and that detracted from the storyline a bit.

I really enjoyed reading this book and am going to read all there is in this series. I have read a lot of books from the author Dawn Brower and this also defines her writing. I definitely recommend this book.

What a phenomenally emotional and thrilling new story from Dawn Brower about overcoming a painful childhood and second chances. Nate is a police detective who was always bullied and picked on at home and at school. Reese is a doctor who befriended Nate when they were young. Now Nate is chosen to protect is former crush from danger. Heart in Waiting is a captivating must read that readers won’t want to put down. I loved the story plot and the characters of this book.

Dane has been in love with Reese for over ten years but she hardly noticed him. When her ex-boyfriend/his brother escapes from prison Dane is sent to protect Reese. Will he finally tell her how he feels? This is an emotional read and I loved that the author took on bullying. The writing is well done, the characters are believable and the story is filled with danger, mystery, suspense, drama and an entertaining romance. I look forward to reading the next book by this author.
Four and a half stars.
This is a well written story about Dane and his love for Reese. He has carried this torch for ten years and she barely notices him. She even dated his evil half brother. When Nolan escapes from prison, Dane is assigned to guard Reese and she doesn’t like it. Dane is definitely the most likeable, but I laughed and smiled a bit when the scenes surrounded Carter and Olivia. There was a chemistry between them that Carter doesn’t want to acknowledge. This is a great addition to Dawn Brower’s collection of stories.

A romance with a bit of mystery.
Dawn Brower has written a story with strong well-developed characters and excellent writing. There are mystery and danger as well as the romance in this piece and was a very entertaining read. What I liked most in this story was how descriptive the author writes. I always enjoy Ms. Brower books and this one did not disappoint. I highly recommend. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Dane Hunter saved enough money to buy an old suit so he could attend his prom. Everyone else was in a tuxedo, but he had little money to even rent one. The girl he loved had come into the diner where he worked and told him she would dance with him if he came to the prom. Just one dance, but it mattered to him enough to tolerate the mean comments from those around him. He knew she offered out of pity, but he would take even that. Then his cruel half-brother shoved him and told him to leave. Reese walked over and Nolan let Dane go as Reese ignored Nolan’s flirting, said she had promised this dance, and held out her hand to Dane!
Now Dane Hunter is a detective who survived a horrible childhood of having nothing, constantly bullied by his cruel half-brother, Nolan, who was on his way to prison for murder and escaped custody when the bus transporting him to prison overturned. Dane’s partner, Carter, went to protect Claire who had testified against Nolan in court; Dane would be protecting Dr. Reese Jackson until the serial-killer Nolan could be apprehended.
With Dane protecting Reese from Nolan, all of those old feelings he had for her came back even stronger. Would anything come of their being in close quarters now? Would Reese see the real man who loves her? Would she survive Nolan’s vengeful plans for her?
This was a powerful story emotionally. The reader could not help but like Dane who suffered greatly but held on to his honor, integrity, and dignity. Reese had some nice qualities, but was caught up in her own dreams and let it blind her to Dane’s feelings. Experiencing the danger with Dane’s defending her made her grow up a bit and become much more likable. I think the focus of the story line was on appearances being misleading and not showing the true depth of a person. Nolan was handsome and wealthy, so his vicious cruelty wasn’t obvious to many. Dane had a heart of gold and loyalty that went bone-deep. He didn’t let his misfortune stop him from being the good person he always was. Will Reese finally see that good person and open her heart to give love a chance?
This is an interesting read.
The book has some danger, suspense and romance.

ONE ABSOLUTE DELIGHT!!!
Wow! Dawn brings it when she comes, and she comes out swinging. There is nothing held back or cut short that feels it was in anyway rushed. She packs a punch and leaves you wanting more. She brings every emotion you have front and center in a whirlwind that draws you in so deeply, your only focus is on the tale playing out before you. You’re kept on a razors edge, barely breathing hanging on tightly throughout. She lays out one amazing storyline and smoking plot that brings this bad boy roaring to life flawlessly. The chemistry between the two main characters is intense, palpable and sizzling. The characters are authentic and realistic with depth and individuality it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. The scenes are so graphically descriptive and detailed you have no trouble picturing each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Dawn totally rocked this little gem with such on point realism you can’t help but fall in love with the characters. Remarkable job Dawn, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
This book is part of a series and I was so happy that I did not need to read the previous books in order to enjoy this one!
Dane Hunter is a detective who survived a childhood filled with bullying at the hands of his half-brother Nolan who fine-tuned that bullying into a life of crime which included murder. Nolan is on his way to prison when he escapes putting the life of a former high school girlfriend, Dr. Reese Jackson, in possible jeopardy. When Dane is put in charge of protecting Reese from Nolan all his old feelings of unrequited love for her come flooding back to the surface.
Dane was great from the very beginning but I did not think much of Reese. As a teenager, she had been rather condescending and dismissive of Dane and now as an adult, she was not much better. Luckily she shows a lot of emotional growth during this story and actually becomes a mature caring woman. I guess having your life threatened will do that, whereas going through all the grueling years of medical school does not?!
There is childhood bullying, an adult danger/drama, second chance love and of course a murderous prison escapee!!
What more does a reader need in a book?!!
