The game is on, and not everyone is playing by the rules.
Brandon Scott is finally behind bars. Now, Charlie can treat Kristine to an anxiety-free night of fun and romance. The newest trend in town is a treasure hunt—and the prize he’s planning will change their lives forever.
Unfortunately, the Scott gang isn’t finished with them. Certain members of the family are determined to finish what … to finish what Brandon started… and get their hands on the most valuable piece of jewelry in the city.
What starts as a lighthearted tryst turns into a race for a priceless string of pearls, and death is the cost of failure.
Charlie’s night promises to end with a bang, but not the one he had his heart set on.

This is my first time reading something by Ms. Shuey and I have to say I enjoyed it very much. This book grabbed my attention right from the start and kept my interest till the end. The storyline was well crafted, with romance, suspense, danger, and drama that made for a very enjoyable and entertaining read. There was even a treasure hunt that was a lot of fun. The character development was great and the chemistry was undeniable. This author has a great writing style and as much as I loved this book, I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the first two, so that is exactly what I’m going to do! I definitely recommend you add this book to your summer reading list!

The bad guy is vanquished, or so it seems. Our couple has one last mystery to solve before they can ride off into the sunset.
This is book three in the series. The plot is self-contained and you can read this one without having read the first, but you will not completely understand the character relationships at first. It becomes clear, so I recommend reading them in order.
This is a short romance with some intrigue and suspense thrown in. The story is well written and easy to read, with a straightforward plot that is both engaging and fun to read. As the last book in the series, the characters are well developed and we have gotten to see how good they are together. This story draws all the pieces together rather nicely and puts a bow on it, but not without giving us a final mystery to solve. Overall, an excellent cap to the entire affair.
Highly recommended.

I love all of Kari Shuey’s novels. She is a master at romantic suspense, the lovers in question have a little scare to overcome IF they can even end up together. This time around though we are in book 3 of the series and the bad guy is locked up for real this time, everyone is back to work at the security business. We know Charlie has Kristine as his true love and there is no will they or won’t they. Rather this is a HEA from books 1&2 carrying over into book 3 as a great date night.
Think escape room but with a possible real life treasure at the end. A historical set of pearls has never been found. In order to use collective minds a pair of criminals has set up an annual treasure hunt to find the pearls in the hopes the participants lead them to the real pearls. This plays out really well, no spoilers from me though, and since this volume doesn’t need the romantic suspense I felt it read like a fun, cozy mystery.
This is the 5th book I’ve read written by Kari Shuey; she has done a great job at writing a good short story; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.

Protecting the Pearls is the third book in the Heart Heist series and is an entertaining read.
I loved this book. The characters are likable and relatable. The storyline is well written and interesting, with a treasure hunt, humour, danger, suspense, and romance. This short story is great for a quick read.
I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
I loved this next heart heist installment. I like seeing the characters grown and the situations they get into. There is humor and romance and danger, what more could you ask for?
