Monsters didn’t just exist in nightmares. They were real; they lived among us. As the sole witness to a brutal murder, Ryann Sinclair knew that better than anyone. He’d been burned once, and Cash Donovan swore it was the last time. That all changed when Ryann stumbled back into his life. She was fiercely protective of her heart, and he was hell-bent on protecting her. Never one to back down from a … protecting her.
Never one to back down from a challenge, Cash was determined to break her.
Just so he could be the one to put her back together.

Once upon a time, eleven year old Ryann Sinclair was put in a position that she couldn’t fight her way out of leaving her a little broken. She was sent to live with her grandparents where they sent her to summer camp. For three years Ryann spent the summer in camp where she met Cash. He was her first kiss. That kiss left a lasting impression on Ryann. When Cash met Ryann she was but his broken fragile teenager.
Eight years pass with no contact until Cash walks in a bar where Ryann works stirring up old memories of the girl who got away.
For twelve years Ryann has worked to strengthen her mind and body. Although, no matter how many self-defense courses she takes she realizes she’s still unevenly matched against some men.
This is second chance romance with the guy she kissed for the first time at summer camp. Ryann might seem like a fighter but her scars still remain unseen. Cash helps her work through the trauma of her past mistakes.
Ryann’s character is still harboring fear and pain. She would nothing more than to let the past remain in the past, but some men just can’t let go. I expected a little more fight with Ryann’s character given the amount of self-defense classes she took. She came across as fragile instead of a fierce fighter. I was expecting more of an emotional read but this story isn’t reaching the place I need to support her cause. I wanted to like Ryann but not if it means Cash becomes her savior. I wanted Ryann to fight for herself without relying on a guy to save her.
The story skipped a few years which were vital to understanding her journey to heal. I wanted to understand her situation but I couldn’t. I wanted to understand why it took Cash re-entering her life to finally face those past fears. I prefer strong female characters and Ryann didn’t come across as fierce.
This is my first read by K. Street. While I was drawn by the cover design and the prospect of reading an emotional story about a broken character I’m not finding the writing style is strong enough to hold my interest. I need dialogue driven story’s with less focus on those minute details.
I thought some of the sex scenes were too graphic. Toning down these scenes would’ve been vital to gaining my connection. I’m not feeling an emotional connection especially with these sex scenes. Sex is perfect opportunity to express feelings and build that intimate connection but all I read was a sex scene.
K. Street’s writing voice didn’t work for me. I wasn’t particularly impressed with the directional change in the storyline. The story took an unexpected violent turn which built a bigger gap in building that emotional connection.
Beautiful
The title to my review sums up my feelings on this book really. It is a beautiful piece of art and I think everyone should read it honestly. Things in this book are hidden and never talked about and they need to be. Thank you, K for writing this book it is very touching and amazing. I loved every second of it.
This book wasnt something i would choose at first glance… I read the blurb, it was intriguing… a survivor who trying to put pieces of her life together after such tornado tragedy… its a heavy subject…fear.. confident… integrity.. it made you wonder… this book is a rollercoaster emotion.. you can see why it is when you read the book.. its worthy book to read.. to come out stronger after a tragedy.. its a winner..
What an amazing & fantastic debut from this author. I wish I could give this book more than five stars. I was intrigued immediately from the prologue and couldn’t put this book down. The depth and strength that Ryann possessed astounded me. Cash came into her life at the perfect time and his strong, alpha male persona was just what she needed in her life. Ms. Street did a wonderful job with the plot which is meaningful, full of emotions and just all around excellent. I’m certainly looking forward to reading more books from Ms. Street.
What a fantastic debut novel! K. Street is an author that can only grow stronger from this first book. One to add to the list of author’s to watch what she produces next.
Ryann is a person who has been through so much and more in her life. After watching her father murder her mother and then surviving her father driving the car to kill them both. The years pass and life goes on. Although the nightmares have slowed down, the constant reminder of what she went through will always be in her head.
Cash is the local detective on the police squad. Heading to his cousins remodeled bar…he takes one look at the girl working behind the bar and immediately recognizes her. After all these years…how is it possible.
This is a great story of how love can help you overcome everything bad that has happened in your life. One that if you find the right person, you can start to have feelings and live life like it was meant to be. With the twists and turns included in this book, you can not put it down till the very last page!

WHEW! This one is INTENSE! Ryann has to go through some shhhhtuuuuuff. Cash is an amazing book boyfriend, and I loved the relationship between these two. This is the author’s debut & is very well written. It does go to some really dark places, and I admit I had to skip over some of the more descriptive stuff from the bad guy. But the fact that we get POV’s from that bad guy was a neat move, I thought.
Basically, this quote from the book sums it all up nicely:
“Strength is born during the moments that are meant to break us.”
Two thumbs up & another 10+++ stars for me! I cannot WAIT for more!!! : )
