Grace Abernathy helped wounded soldiers during the American Civil War. Now that it’s over, she has to find a way to move on. Her parents think having her stay with her cousins in Myrtle Grove, South Carolina, can help her do just that. She isn’t looking for love after what she went through, but when she spends time with a returning soldier she knew from a long time ago, she wonders if he might … spark a rekindling in her heart.
Wyatt Hammond was conscripted to serve in the Confedrate military. Though he only served for a few months before the war ended, the horrors he saw during that time haunt him. He isn’t sure if he can ever be happy again, until he is reunited with an old flame who has the power to heal his broken heart.
Can Grace forget her painful past? Will Wyatt be able to let go of what he went through during the war? And what will happen when the man Grace is running from, finally catches up with her?

This is a book #3 in this series and is an outstanding story of trauma brought on my war, healing, hope and love. This is Grace and Wyatt’s story and the character development is excellent. Each of them have issues and bad memories brought on as a result of their service tending the wounded during the Civil War. As they meet after the war and rekindle a relationship that had begun and ended five years earlier as the War began, they must each resolve these issues and memories if they are to ever reach a HEA. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.
This is the first book in this series that I have read. I thought Jenna Brandt did a good job telling us what life would have been like after the Civil War especial in the South. I like how the romance between Grace an Wyatt developed. I liked that they had to get over things from their past in order to move on and trust each other. I thought this book was well written and it makes me want to read the other books in the series.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
I love second chance love stories and one did not disappoint. The Civil War has ended and the time for rebuilding has begun for the country and its citizens.
Grace Abernathy and Wyatt Hammond are both scarred psychologically by their experiences during the war. It is through their combined strength they each receive the healing they so richly deserve.
I haven’t read the previous books in the series but I had no problem following the story line since Jenna Brandt did a great job of answering any questions I had within the story.
I was given an Advanced Reader Copy of this book by the author. I was not required to post a positive review nor was I compensated in any way.
I enjoyed the story of Wyatt and Grace that was set in the time after the Civil War. There are time were the author made me laugh and other times that were very sad. Plus she had me guessing too.
I received a complimentary copy from the author. This is my honest unbiased opinion.
I enjoyed reading this book! Grace helped her father, who is a doctor, in the civil war. Wyatt is also a doctor and was also in the same army. Grace had something happen to her in the war that made her afraid. I recommend this book to everyone who loves historical romance!
Grace and Wyatt meet at the very beginning of the Civil War. They share a kiss in the garden at her parents house. Then, the very next day, the war begins and Wyatt leaves without saying goodbye, just in case. He doesn’t want to leave a grieving widow. Now, the war is over, and they meet again; but, Grace is still hurt and angry with Wyatt for his–what she considers– callous behavior. But, love can’t be denied as they realize they still have feelings for each other. Then Grace is kidnapped by a mentally ill soldier who has become obsessed with her. This is a really good story, and I liked it very much. I am enjoying these Civil War stories. I give it 5 stars
Another great story written by Jenna Brandt, this one set in the time of the American Civil War and immediately after. Two people pulled apart by the war are given a second chance. The trauma they each encountered during the war has to be overcome in order to be able to do reach the HEA. Great plot and character development.
Healed by Grace is book three in Jenna Brandt’s The Civil War Brides Series. I have not yet read the other books in the series and did not feel lost so the book can be read as a stand alone, although since there seems to be character overlap there is probably some information I missed.
The characters are ones the reader will come to care about. Although the book is short the characters are fairly well developed. Readers also learn some of the back story of the main characters through memory flashbacks. If you enjoy historical fiction, you may want to add Healed by Grace to your TBR pile.
I would not hesitate to add this clean romance to my k-12 Christian School library. I think it would be appropriate for middle school and older.
I received a complimentary e-copy of Healed by Grace. This is my honest review.
“Healed by Grace” brings two broken souls from the Civil War and reunites them in another town. The fact is as they fall in love with each other, they start to heal from the war. Each seeks help in a different way, and Wyatt begins to understand the horror of what Grace has endured, when her nightmare returns to claim her. Unfortunately, the author fails to understand the true horror of a stalker, or the mental issues that prevail, because a lot of that is glossed over to bring the two lovers back together. Still, the story is good and loves prevails.
A nice, sweet post Civil War story about the effects of those who fought in the war and others who waited for their loved ones to return. Sometimes returning can be hard and Ms. Brandt does a great job of delving into the characters feelings. It ends happily.
I have enjoyed this series immensely. Jenna Brandt has given a realistic look at the aftermath of the Civil war on the south. Ways of life, financially, socially and physically, changed drastically. Her characters are well developed and you feel like you know these families. I will miss the Abernathy and Hammond families. Happily ever after comes at a price.
This is story with Grace and Wyatt and how the war separated them. They had began a relationship when he was studying under he father who is a doctor but when he leaves for the war without any explanation she is heartbroken. When he war is over she goes to stay with cousins and unknown to her Wyatt is there but she wants nothing to do with him. Wyatt knows he did not do right by her and wants to make amends. Will Grace give him a second chance?
This was a very sweet romance set right after the end of the war. Circumstances have sent Grace to Myrtle Grove to live with cousins. She encounters Wyatt, who wanted to court her before the war began but then seemingly disappeared. What happened and will Grace let Wyatt explain or will she freeze him out to keep from being hurt again? It’s a delightful story about second chances and the power of love.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Wars tear people apart.. Both in body and soul and it is often hard to put the pieces back together. But in this story of the heart by Jenna Brandt, she shows just how love and faith can help heal those who find it.
Grace Abernathy had helped her father, who was a doctor, during the war. It had left her with the horrors of all she had seen and knowing how the war had destroyed so many, including her father’s desire to be a doctor. Her parents had sent her to her cousins in Myrtle Grove, SC to hopefully help her get past everything.
Wyatt Hammond had studied under Grace’s father to become a doctor and he and Grace had met at a ball right before he was called to war. They had shared a special connection but he had left without telling her. But upon his return, although lauded a hero, he felt anything but that.
As they meet again in Myrtle Grove, Grace just gives him the cold shoulder, still very hurt on how he just left her. But Wyatt, wanted to change that…
The memories of the war haunted these two for different reasons, but could they come back together?
A beautiful story that will have you enthralled until the end…
Grace Abernathy and Wyatt Hammond had their love story cut short when the Civil War separated them. Wyatt served in the Army and Grace helped her father (who had been Wyatt’s mentor in medical school). War has a bad habit of changing people, however, and when it’s finally over, neither Grace nor Wyatt are left untouched by it’s trauma. Following the war Grace comes to Maple Grove to stay with her aunt and uncle, hoping to leave another bad experience behind, not knowing that Wyatt is there and desperately in need of her healing love. This story was just the right length and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I loved it! I received an advance reader copy and voluntarily leave my honest review.
I love the town of Myrtle Grove. I enjoyed visiting the Abernathy and Hammond families.Grace is an Abernathy from Charleston. She was sent to her Aunt and Uncle’s home after the war is over. She soon realizes that Wyatt Hammond , the man whom acted like he wanted to court her, but instead just seemed to disappear. She tried to ignore him, but she found out that she couldn’t. Wyatt never stopped thinking about Grace. Can these two start over? Will the past catch up to them to keep them apart? I found this book to be predictable in the best way and still exciting.
Another wonderful book by Author Jenna Brandt. This one
just blew me away. I loved reading this book…
This is an excellent and moving story set in the time immediately after the end of the Civil War. Grace Abernathy worked and trained with her father who was a Doctor and worked in the Confederate hospitals. Wyatt Hammond had studied medicine under her father and that had shared a kiss and a promise just before he was called into duty of the confederate army. He broke his promise and her heart and she’s not sure she wants to be around him but she has been sent to Myrtle Grove, SC to escape unwanted advances from a former patient. This is a wonderful story and I loved the characters and the time period. I recommend this book.
I so enjoyed this story. It was wonderful, as Grace started to trust again and Wyatt found his lost love. I read this book in a 24 hour period. It was so inspiring and full of hope even while working through the horrors of war. If you like clean stories with heart, I highly recommend “Healed By Grace” .
I received this book from the publisher. The thoughts and comments are my own
Grace is such a strong and determined lady until she meets Wyatt for the second time. Such a great story of how the fall in love. Both suffering from the war and they realize that they need each other to make the whole again. Wonderful book.
