There is so much more to this book that I ever expected and I fell in love with everything about this book.
This is the first book in The McKays series. It follows the youngest McKay sibling Neve when she returns home to her small town she meets the very sexy Irishman Ian Campbell. Sparks immediately fly between them. But more than that Neve came home for a reason. She tried of running.
I felt for Neve. Her story was so much more than I could have ever expected. When the truth comes out as to why she left all those years ago and her since leaving her family home and her two older siblings, it will have your reeling. There is much tension between Neve and her brother Brannon and her sister Moira. But they just want to be a family again and mend the rift in their relationship. There are so many people that care about Neve and they are willing do everything to protect her, including Ian.
Ian is so amazing and hot as hell. He feels a deep connection to Neve and is willing to do anything to see where these feelings he has may lead. He tears down her shields and breaks down the barriers on her heart. He heals her in ways she didn’t think possible. The romance between them was so beautiful and amazing. They are perfect for each other.
As this being my first Shiloh Walker book I have to say I love her writing. While reading this book I felt like I knew this town and its people so well. I loved that it switches to different characters pov. It made me feel like I knew each and every character as individuals, how they felt, how they into the town, and their motivations. I really loved Gideon, Hannah, Ian, and even seeing William Clydes pov. It expertly sets up the next books in the series.
I really loved this book. There is so much to love. The town and its people are so greatly detailed. You will fall in love with this small town and the McKays are so complex that I can’t wait to read their books next because after reading this book, you will be dying for Brannon and Moira’s love story.
Neve McKay was tired of living in the shadow of her family name and decided it was high time she make a name for herself, full well knowing the only way she could accomplish that was to leave behind McKay’s Treasure once and for all. So she left behind everything she knew nine years ago and headed for New York to attend college, and achieve success on her own merit, and prove to her siblings that she was capable of standing on her own two feet. Things were going according to plan until she met a charming man who she thought had her best interests at heart, but she soon learned that his intentions were less than admirable, and he left her a scarred and terrified woman who had no choice but to run. Being on the run for so long has been tiring, and she is ready to find a place where she can find a little peace, and possibly begin to heal… some place like home. So, despite her all reservations she returns home to McKay’s Treasure, hoping she’ll find the support she needs, and possibly be able to repair the damage she left behind. Being home again, surrounded by friends and family, has never felt so good… that is until she learns that her past has once again caught up to her!
The moment Ian Campbell spots the red haired beauty waltz into his bar he’s hit with a burning desire to make her his, there is something about her that he just can’t deny. So, after a few smoothly uttered words, and some flirting he has her right where he wants her, that is until he learns just who she is, and learning her identity has him wanting to abandoned his plan immediately. Learning that he just made out with his best friends little sister is a down nerve-racking, him and Brannon have been friends for years, and he is certain the minute he discovers what happened there is bound to be a scuffle. He would have never knowingly made a move on Neve if he’d known who she was, and as much as he regrets it, he still can’t let the visions of what they shared go, the chemistry they share is unlike anything he has ever experienced, every time their around one another it just has a way of pulling them together. As much as he wants to deny what he feels for her, for the sake of his friendship, he just isn’t strong enough to fight it and walk away. Especially after he learns her life is in danger…
From the moment I opened this book, I felt my world shift, and felt myself being drawn into these characters lives, and I had no intentions of leaving them until that last page was turned. This addictive little page turner had me hooked from the get go, and on a mission to see to it that Neve finally found her happily ever after… and I am happy to report I found exactly what I was searching for, and SO much more!! Upon finishing this installment in the series, I am dying to dive into the second and let my little adventure with the McKay family continue, and I can’t wait to see what Ms. Walker has in store for this family next!! Neve and Ian’s story was brimming with heartfelt emotion, steamy toe curling romance, and spine-tingling mystery that kept me right on the edge of my seat, and even gasping for air a few times too!! This one has bestseller written all over it!!
I highly recommend you give this addictive little read a try, the minute you meet Ian he’ll have you swooning, and looking at men in kilts in a whole new light!!

What a great way to end my year!! This book was absolutely amazing and Shiloh Walker is someone that I’ll be keeping my eye on for a very long time. I can’t believe that it took me so long find her and I regret all of the lost time that I could have been reading her books. I’ve added a bunch of her works to my reading list and I can’t wait to get started on them.
Headed for Trouble seemed like a great read when I first started it and it soon became one of those books that readers always search for … the kind that will suck you in and not let you go until the very end. When I sat down to write this review, I went to look at my notes (because I always keep notes … usually TONS of them) and I didn’t have any. Not one. I was so immersed in the book that I couldn’t pull myself away to jot down any notes on what I liked or didn’t like. To be honest, I can’t think of a single thing that I didn’t like about this book. I absolutely loved every single second of my reading experience with this one.
I found all of the characters really believable and most of them were completely endearing. Massive character building success! There were a few bad dudes that I HATED with a passion but that was also a success. This author made me fall in love with characters and then want to punch a couple others in the throat; to get me to have such strong emotions towards characters that I just met is amazing. It’s hard to find authors who so fully flesh out every single character. To put that kind of depth into so many fictional characters must be incredibly difficult. The kicker is that there were quite a few characters … like 15 whom we (the readers) need to keep up with but I didn’t struggle with it in the least. And this was with picking the book up and then putting it down constantly because our boys are on winter break.
I can’t say enough about this plot. The story had quite a few facets to it and while it was intricate and the plot was interwoven with a few subplots, it read very easily. The book didn’t go too deep into descriptions but it didn’t skimp on them either. It was simply put, a perfect mixture of every “ideal book” component. I really couldn’t have asked for a better reading experience. I wish that all books had read like this one did. I will definitely be reading this again and I’m absolutely going to follow this series and this author from now on. Such a great ending to an awfully full reading year.
