I loved this book! It made me LOL several times. Effie is the most original, fresh, likable character I have met in a long time. Elias is wonderful. I enjoyed their offbeat love story enormously. This book has all the feels. Love, sorrow, humor, humiliation, contrition, and fierce courage. The way Nicole Archer handles the subject of drug addiction and the lifelong pain and struggle to overcome it is dealt with magnificently. The writing is stellar. She is a real talent, and I am so glad I found her. I can’t wait to see what she writes next.
Head-Tripped is the second book in the Ad Agency series. It can be read as a standalone. But if you have read Road Tripped then you have already had the pleasure of meeting Effie, Callie’s twin sister. This is her story and she is about to get the best high of her life…
Effie moved to New York to start over. To find her way. To feel the music again. But after six months she is still missing something. She still feels broken. She feels like she is only living half a life. That is until she meets the sexiest deadbeat musician that she has even laid eyes on. And only after two crazy fun-filled days she doesn’t want to let him go. Ever. But her high is crashed when he tells her that he has to leave for the summer with his band. What she didn’t know was that Elias was El Love, the frontman for Urban, one of the biggest bands in the world.
Elias had no idea what hit him when he met Effie. He knew she was beautiful, wild, and a bit loco. And it was icing on the cake that she had no idea who he is. So he decided to just be Elias not El Love for one night. When one night turned into two he knew he was done for. He didn’t want to walk away from this woman but he had to. He was going on a European Tour and there was no way he was breaking the rules by bringing someone with him. But, damn…he needed her. He couldn’t stop thinking about her. About the songs they wrote together. And those songs are what brings her on tour. It’s about to get crazy beautiful.
This tour is full of passion. Passion for each other. Passion for the music. Passion for life. Effie and Elias’s time together is so much fun!! But there still something that Effie hasn’t told Elias because she is scared that it could ruin everything. It shouldn’t but she knows it could. Will her past blow up their future?
I loved this wild ride!! I knew I could count on Nicole to make me laugh, love, and laugh some more. She has a way of making me feel like I am on a trip of a lifetime. First on a silver dildo and now with the band. And I totally fell for the band. Their banter and different personalities was perfect. They are not perfect but who is. Who would want to be, really. That’s not fun. Anyway…I loved Elias, the way he looks at Effie and speaks to her in different languages is sexy as hell. He is also a beautiful soul with a badass twist. And Effie…I might have a girl crush. She hasn’t had the easiest life but she is still going. I love the way she can be like a kid in a candy store at times. When she sees something for the first time it’s beautiful. She really is a trip. Together, they are something else. I can’t even explain it.
Overall…You do not want to miss this tour!! I read it in one sitting and it’s not a short book. I didn’t want off the ride. It was exactly what I needed. Beautiful comedy gold with a message. I can’t wait to see where Nicole will be taking us next.
P.S. The name Effie gives Elias is the best!! If you know me then you will know why.
Quotes:
“Better get out of here before I bust your good-sex cherry.”
“I don’t know what that means, but it sounds beautiful.”
“This looks like a Bob Ross painting,” he said.
Head-Tripped is the next book in Nicole Archer’s Ad Agency Series. It’s a follow-up to her wonderful and well-received book Road-Tripped and it features Callie’s twin sister Effie! Technically this is more a spin-off rather than part of the series since Effie doesn’t really work for the same Ad Agency as Callie and Walker but I digress. Anyway, I loved Road-Tripped so Head-Tripped had pretty big shoes to fill and just as I suspected it turned out great! Effie is as different from Callie as night from day and her quirky personality just makes Head-Tripped fantastic. It’s is still funny, there’s still a sexy male lead, this time he’s a brooding rock star, there’s still a rocking playlist and there’s still a trip! Maybe this should be re-titled as the road trip series with music. Effie and Elias are musicians, they’ve hit rock bottom with Effie trying to build her music career again and Elias trying to get out of what he feels is his stagnating music. When they meet, sparks fly, fun is had, a connection is made. But can their tenuous relationship survive a concert road trip?
If you love Road-Tripped you definitely will adore Head-Tripped. If you haven’t read the first book, you can easily read this as a stand-alone but go pick up Road-Tripped as well. Highly recommended for readers who like quirky and fun, romantic comedies!
While this book was really so much different from the first book, I was not disappointed in any way. It was still a raunchy, laugh out loud romance, just like the first one. The fact that it had such a different feeling from the first one only proves to me what a talented author Nicole Archer is. She writes characters that you can’t help but fall in love with and feel for, and she puts them in some of the best situations, some so very realistic, even in all their wackiness. And of course there are others that are extremely out there and so very impossible, but you have to have them too. The two main characters are Effie and Elias. We first met Effie in book 1, as she was the main character Callie’s twin sister. Effie and Elias are having a ton of fun together, and while at first it seems like it can only be a quick fling, there is something between them that neither of them can deny. Both of them have secrets and issues of course, Effie’s maybe more detrimental to their relationship in the end. These two don’t have the whole love/hate thing going on that Callie and Walker did, they are just perfect for each other right away. But it’s not a fake way, it’s not insta-love, more like insta-lust (very real), and a connection that they don’t know where it will go, but both are very interested in seeing where it goes.
Now, it’s not just the great main characters, there are so many side characters that you love. My favorites in this one? Well, of course I loved seeing Effie’s twin sister Callie and her man, Walker, from the first book. We even got one of my favorite Walker lines, “Sh..poo!” Go read the first one so you’ll get that and laugh like I do every time I think of it. I love Elias’s mother Annie, as well as Elias’s band mates, and also their chauffeur/ bus driver while they’re on tour in Europe. You have a definite villain in this one, whereas in book one, there wasn’t necessarily anyone you truly hated like you do in this book.
This book totally fit in with the rock star romances I’ve been loving lately. But I like that it doesn’t mean the whole series is going to be just about rock stars. (Not that there is anything wrong with that.) I know this one is not even officially out in the world yet, but as I finished it, I could only wonder what character the author would bring back for book 3. Not to mention how eager I am to read more of these characters. Just like with book 1, I look forward until I can buy a physical copy of this one to keep on the nightstand by my bed, so that I can pick up and enjoy the characters, as well as some of the steamy sex scenes, whenever I’m in the mood.
Head-Tripped by Nicole Archer a trippy five-star read. This is the second book in the Ad agency series, it could be read as a stand-alone but I enjoyed reading as the second book as I got little snippets from the previous book that revealed hidden depths of this book. Needless to say, I loved it, you get a great soundtrack to listen to, and each chapter has its own songs. I love this interactive way of reading, and I thank Nicole Archer for bringing this to my attention with her books.
Euphemia Murphy or Effie as she is lovingly called by those who know and lover her best, is a crazy broken woman, who is also broke, after six months in New York trying to make up for some past troubles. She is on the verge of calling her sister and admitting defeat when she has what is possibly the weirdest night possible standing in for her sister to pick up an award. Effie meets a guy names Elias and he tells her he’s a musician and that he doesn’t have a job, she assumes he’s unemployed and although its true what he told her he doesn’t have a ‘job’ but he is lead singer for a major world renowned band Urban.
Elias Lovaro or El Love as he is commonly known in the press, everyone sees him as a rock star. Money to burn groupies galore and party’s every night. The reality is completely different, and he finds himself on a tour with a bunch of lovable crazies who include his mother and a longing he has never felt for some chick he met at a party. He realises that she could be the answer to his problems and invites her to join the Tour. But in doing so will he be able to not break his own rules, and bring his own band down or will she bring something new to them? They both have a dark past and they may not be able to make it past the history they each have. But if they can manage to come out the other side they would be stronger people, but sadly they may also be single people, you need to read the book to find out.
There are some very funny goings on along the tour, and some real gut churning what will happen moments, but they all come together to create a very well written book, that is both funny and poignant, and contains some of the most amazing Alice in Wonderland quotes as chapter headers.
Great book, loving this series!
Effie is cute and quirky with lots of personality. It’s hard not to love her, and it’s so easy to connect with her.
Elias is a rock star that hates being a rock star. He is proud of his accomplishments, but also misses being normal and having privacy. When a beautiful girl stumbles into his life, he can’t stop his attraction. He makes her feel normal and alive. She is a muse that won’t leave his thoughts.
The two end up writing some great music together, and Effie ends up going on tour with the band. But there are some serious issues between the two.
I enjoyed this book more than the first one, and I couldn’t get enough of the storyline and characters. The cute moments also made me smile and giggle at times. I can’t wait to read Nicole Archer’s next book!
