She spends the night at the Deerbourne Inn and runs into Joe Bascomb. Her nervousness turns to friendliness the more she gets to know him. When her stalker texts her current location, she panics and smashes her phone before throwing it in the trash. She gets in her car to flee but Joe convinces her to stay on his remote farm. He coaxes her to tell him what’s going on. She confides in him and with the local sheriff. Can she trust Joe to protect her from the stalker and more importantly, will this nightmare ever end?
He is Watching is such a gripping, suspenseful story, I white-knuckled my e-reader as I read. Denise Carbo takes on the subject of stalkers and thrusts the reader on an emotional ride as we feel what’s it’s like to be the prey of a sociopathic stalker. The suspense of who the stalker is ratchets up the stakes until the very end. I won’t reveal any spoilers, but I cheered for Julie at the end. The slow-burning romance between Julie and Joe is sweet and touching yet realistic. Julie’s reactions to the stalker and her budding feelings for Joe rang true and honest. Emotional, suspenseful, He is Watching is unputdownable and perfect for an afternoon read. Highly recommend!
Favorite Quote or Character:
Julie. I connected with her right away. Her fright, her reactions, all appeared realistic and authentic. The artistic side of her was a nice reprieve from the suspenseful plot.
My Rating: 5 stars
This is my first time reading something my Ms. Carbo, and it was amazing! This book captured my attention from the very beginning and I was hooked till the end. Julie is being stalked and in an attempt to run away and hide, she ends up at Deerbourne Inn in Vermont. While in town she meets Joe, a local craftsman, and he is immediately attracted to her. He senses Julie is in trouble and wants to help her. This was a really well-crafted story with romance and suspense and Ms. Carbo did a great job with developing the characters and bringing them to life. I’m looking forward to reading more books by this author.

This is the first book I’ve read by Denise Carbo and I wasn’t disappointed. The book held my attention until the final page. Julie has a stalker and the Boston Police Department hasn’t caught him or her. On the day she receives more pictures on her work computer, she runs. She drives until she gets to Willow Springs, Vermont and checks into the Deerborne Inn. She meets Joe Bascomb and they have a connection. Will Julie and Joe get together? Will her stalker find her in Vermont? No spoilers, so grab your copy and enjoy this suspenseful read.

When a stalker decides to make Julie their target, she flees the city she lives in, driving aimlessly until she reaches Vermont. Unfortunately, despite her attempt to shake off her stalker, they find out where she has gone anyway.
Talk about a suspenseful book! I couldn’t stop reading and I really wanted to know what happened next. Oh my. Joe is adorable. There are no words to describe how much I love him! I seriously love a good gentleman sweetheart, and Joe fits the bill perfectly. And his German shepherd companion! Honestly, this book was great, and even made me squeal at the end. A perfect blend of suspense and romance, all wrapped up in a short novella.
From the opening page, I was engaged in this mystery/suspense novella. Julie goes on the run from an unknown stalker in Boston where the police have not been able to help her. She ends up in Vermont and at the Deerbourne Inn. Living undercover and trying to figure out what to do with her life she meets Joe a local craftsman who is immediately attracted to her. That said, he realizes Julie is in trouble and instead of pushing her into a romantic relationship, he tries to help her with the assistance of the local police.
This is my second Deerbourne Inn book. I love the small-town atmosphere and the interconnected characters. As a novella, this is a complete and well-done story. The characters are engaging, smart, and caring.
I look forward to reading more from this author.
Julie Roy has a stalker. The stalker has been at it for months and the police can’t / won’t give her much help. He’s been in her apartment taking pictures. He knows where she is and what’s she doing at all times. Finally, she has enough … she runs.
Julie winds up in a small Vermont town and meets Joe Bascomb, a furniture maker and all-round decent guy. He is immediately attracted but knows she’s running from someone or somewhere.
When the stalker follows her once again, her first instinct is to run once more ….
Suspense from the stalker and a bit of romance from the furniture maker make this a well blended romantic suspense. Less than 100 pages, the author has packed a lot on the pages. It’s a short read, and well worth the time. There’s plenty of action with these skillfully drawn characters.
Many thanks to the author / Wild Rose Press / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Romantic Suspense. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Where to go when you have a stalker haunting your every move? Julie gets “out of Dodge” (alright, Boston…) and just drives, until she finds herself in my favorite (fictional) small town in Vermont: Willow Springs. She meets charming Joe and quickly finds herself feeling safer and protected by him and other small town folk. But is it enough when her stalker shows up? This was a delightful easy, sweet read. Love was not in her plan, but alas, fate has other ideas. A good weekend read if you are looking for a sweet escape.
