Raina Sun is in Las Vegas, along with PoPo, Raina’s maternal grandmother, and several members of PoPo’s posse. Matthew Louie, a police officer and Raina’s fiance, has been asked to do an undercover side job while in Las Vegas. The side job involves investigating and developing a plan for an improved security system.
Shortly after arriving, Matthew disappears! Since Raina was not told who Matthew is working for, she presumes it is the hotel/casino where they are staying.
Raina accepts that he has to work, but when she has not heard from him for the last three days, she decides to speak with the hotel/casino General Manager, Willie Machado. Ms. Machado tells her that Matthew is not working for the casino. While Raina and Willie are talking, Willie’s handheld radio announces news of a dead woman in a laundry bag! They soon learn that the woman was the organizer for the Rock and Jam Convention and she was strangled.
Who would kill this woman and why? Was she involved in Matthew’s investigation? If Matthew was not working for the hotel/casino, who was he working for? Where is Matthew? Raina went to Las Vegas hoping that she and Matthew would get married while they were there…will they ever tie the knot?
Anne R. Tan writes wonderfully entertaining books with interesting people, a variety of plots and sub plots, situations that are so believable that you almost feel as though you are standing next to this wonderful, sweet and funny curly-haired Chinese lady
Raina Sun goes to Vegas on a business trip with her fiancé Matthew and their Grandmothers. She has hopes of a Vegas elopement which are soon crushed. First, Matthew isn’t heard from in days. In the meantime, a convention organizer sneaks into Raina’s room at night only to turn up dead the next day. Since Matthew is nowhere to be found, Raina and her grandmother, PoPo take the investigation into heir own hands. Why was this woman in their room? How is it all connected to Matthew’s freelance job? Where is he? Will they be able to get married? As always, Raina and PoPo have a lot of laugh out loud moments in this book. There are always adventures when they are investigating a murder. While this book can stand alone, it is a continuation of the Raina Sun mysteries, and a great addition to the story. Can’t wait to see what the next adventure brings.
Raina Sun, her grandmother, Po Po (Bonnie Wong) and her fiance, Matthew Louie’s grandmother, Maggie Louie, have all been invited to a casino in Las Vegas. They all think that Matthew is finally ready to marry Raina. Raina believes Matthew is on a secret security job for the casino and must leave them at the casino alone for a few days. The hotel-casino is hosting a rock and roll convention complete with costumes galore. When Raina awakes to find Claire Boucher, the convention organizer, going through her room and she later turns up dead in a laundry bag, Raina is not sure what is going on. With no communication from Matthew, it is up to Raina and the grandma’s to solve the murder, especially when Matthew appears on a security tape with the deceased. Anne Tan has done a great job with all of the wonderful characters in this story. Anne keeps us guessing throughout the story with the outcome.
A must read by cozy mystery lovers!
In this 8th Raina Sun Mystery series Raina travel to Las Vegas to elope with her fiancé Matthew but Matthew is being accused of the murder of the female Rock and Jam Convention organizer. Matthew has disappeared and it is up to Raina, Bonnie and her grandmother to find the real murderer and solve the mystery.
I really enjoyed reading this exciting mystery novel by Anne R. Tan
Disclaimer. I did receive an advance copy, BUT, I had already preordered and paid for my copy.
This is a great addition to the series. Faster paced than previous stories, but totally suited to the plot. Raina and Po Po have gone to Las Vegas with Matthew, who promptly disappears, once they’ve checked in. Po Po is having a ball at the convention, with her friends from home. Of course, Po Po is always full of mischief, and Raina has to spend her time raining Po Po, in addition to solving a murder in the hotel.
Where is Matthew? And why doesn’t he return Raina’s calls and text?
But, there is a happy ending.
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
It was a great book !
Raina is in Vegas.
What more could she ask for ?
You add Po Po, and you have a recipe for a hilarious disaster.
Don’t forget the murder mystery!
It seems that wherever Raina goes a murder follows, or is it the other way around?
No matter!
Raina is on the case w/ the help of Po Po.
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
cozy-mystery, amateur-sleuth, senior-citizens, situational-humor, verbal-humor
Like anything else she writes, this is a minimum two read book! Even if you think you are going to attend to the mystery first, you get all tangled up in the uproarious situational and verbal humor. That PoPo is who I want to be when I grow up–even if I’m not even remotely Chinese! The mystery itself is good with misdirections and red herrings galore. Look to the publisher’s blurb for hints. If you’ve read this author before, you know that you just have to have a copy. And if you haven’t, you need to find out what you’re missing!
Latest book in the Raina Sun series… and finally Raina get’s her man!
Nice addition to the Raina Sun Mysteries.
I read all the Raina Sun books and enjoyed everyone of them. I feel Anne is getting better with each book. We see Raina maturing without the loss of closeness to her grandmother. The two of them together might often bring a smile to your face. Looking foward to reading the next book in the series to see how Raina is coping with married live.
