A mysterious fae-shifter. A battle royale. A chance of a lifetime.
I’ve always been different. Awkward. Horrible at magic. A square peg shoved into a round hole.
But when I arrive in Faerie, I have a chance to start over, to help people who have it worse than me, and to finally get to know my father—the King of Lyonesse.
In Faerie I have friends and a fae guard who fancies me. Crazily … fae guard who fancies me. Crazily enough, for once in my life my bloody magic is cooperating.
There’s one hitch.
To get what I want most, I have to fight—gladiator style—and I must win.
The others are infinitely more powerful than me and a thousand times more charming. Cunning and competitive to boot. And they all want to be tops too. But when I really want something, I’ve never been one to give up.
And I won’t start now.
If you like the atmosphere of Holly Black’s The Cruel Prince and the action of Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse, you’ll love Ashley McLeo’s dark and twisted Bonegates Series.

Hawk Witch is an extremely well written first in a series. The aspects pulled from the regular world as well as Faerie are so rich and so well done. Lana is a great heroine. Not a brassy, in your face, strong heroine, but also not a complete bumbling, mouse of a girl. She’s not perfect and more than a little socially awkward. She’s also willing and driven to stand up for what she wants and what is right. The conflict between certain characters was heartbreaking. That, to me, is the hallmark of a great story. When they can illicit strong anxiety for the danger and conflict the hero is facing, that is a sign of a truly talented author.
Interesting story with some fun magical adventures for lead character, Lana. Witch Lana receives a letter from the father she never knew; he wants her to complete some tasks before he’ll meet with her. I would be sort of ticked and more reticent about finding my absentee father if I needed to jump through hoops in order to meet him, but Lana seems to jump right on board. Luckily, her friend, Finn, is there to help. Fun magical world, and I enjoyed the premise of solving clues and problems to progress towards a goal. Like that there’s plenty of paranormal characters going on; witches, Fae, shifters, etc. Overall, I liked the read and characters; maybe a little more YA than I usually like to read, but still an entertaining read. Looking forward to reading the story continue in the next book.
A fun story of Lana and her friend Finn as they try to find Lana’s father. Instead of finding him in the usual deadbeat father position, they discover the bonegate and a new world filled with wonders. Of course things are not all rosy once she finds her father but instead the games begin. I found it funny and entertaining to read. The characters and the adventure Lana ends up with were fun. Loved the world and the magic.
Hawk Witch by Ashley McLeo is a wonderful story that I have loved reading very much. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I am so hooked on and can not wait to read the rest. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about urban fantasy.

The first book in The Bonegates Series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Lana and her friends Finn and Garret’s story of all the ups and downs they go through. This book ended on a continuation to the next book which I want to read. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
An absolutely fantastic read!! Don’t pass this good book up!! You will definitely love it
This book has everything the fantasy reader wants. Our protagonists are Lana and Finn. Lana who is a witch has never known her father and has always wished for the chance to meet him. One day she finds out she can and she enlists her best friend Finn to help her accomplish her goal by solving a puzzle. Little do they know that the answer to the puzzle will take them through a bonegate to Faerie and learn that Lana’s father is King. Not only does Lana find her father, she and Finn will meet all sorts of people with different magical powers. They will also learn about Finn’s heritage but I don’t want to spoil the book for you so you’ll just have to read it to find out.
Throughout the storyline Lana and Finn learn things about themselves and the people they meet that they couldn’t imagine. They will find their friendship tested and learn why they bonded so easily as children. They will also encounter many different forms of magic, fae and shape shifters and endure a battle for their lives.
The author does a really good job of character and world building. Some of the characters you will love, some you will hate, but without these characters the story would be boring.
The Hawk Witch is a magical entertaining must read for any fantasy reader. Be prepared to sit for awhile and read as the book is hard to put down.
I really enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

Best friends, Lana and Finn, embark on an adventure with twists and turns around every corner. Exciting, perilous, discovery, betrayal–all in all a great read

The books starts out ordinary and transforms into an adventure in Fairie. I don’t do spoilers but I will say that some of the decisions by the king seemed harsh but logical. The actions of the contestants followed human nature unfortunately. The characters were easy to relate with and the world building was very believable. I enjoyed the book very much and look forward to the next one. I got this book on Kindle Unlimited.
Overall rating: 4.7
This is one of those books where you really have to tell other readers to clear their schedules for putting this down is near impossible. This well thought out storyline leads you further and further down a suspense filled tale. Finding a parent, finding siblings, getting drawn into a life altering challenge, plus a plethora of unique magical characters. A first in a series, it hits all the bullet points to keep a reader interested! Thoroughly pleased to be able to recommend this! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
I loved this book! A roller coaster ride from start to finish! A mysterious messenger visits Lana with a scavenger hunt supposedly from her father. A father she’s never known. With her best friend by her side, the chase is on. Queue one absolute curve ball, and Lana’s life will never be the same.
Transported to Faerie, she meets her father – as well as twelve half siblings! She has to improve her magic if she wants to survive the Successional tournament. As she learns about this side of her heritage, she begins to find more of the magic that has always eluded her. But will it be in time to win?
An absolutely action-packed story focusing on how Lana has to adjust to her new situation. I really liked how she finds her strength and her magic. With her hawk familiar helping to protect her, Lana discovers a lot about herself and about who she is – and also who she doesn’t want to be. I am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series!
An adventurous journey with Lana and crew
Lana, a recent university graduate and illuminator witch, gets the shock of her life when she comes home from Trinity. She encounters a shifter that will give her a message and send her on a scavenger hunt to find her father. As the story progresses, she receives even more shocks once she finds him, struggles to decide the best path for herself, and faces incredible odds to get her greatest wish. Ashley McLeo has created a wonderful world with witches, shifters, vampires, demons, and fae of every variety. The Bonegate series promises to lead the readers on an adventurous journey with Lana and crew.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES!!!
WOAH! Talk about rocking this baby to the core. Oh man, what a joy. Ashley totally nailed this bad boy 100% on point with one dramatic storyline and gripping plot that catapults this baby this to life beautifully. A whirlwind of unpredictable events and circumstances that keep you flipping page after page. Struggling with all the trials and tribulations that propels those swirling emotions bursting into play smoothly. The characters are authentic, consistent and realistic with depth and qualities it’s easy to relate. Sparks fly as confusion, mayhem and suspense ensues in epic proportions. The drama, heart pounding, pulse racing, hard hitting wonder that propels all the pieces together smoothly. The scenes were so detailed and descriptive it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Remarkable job Ashley, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
Paranormal readers will enjoy this adventure.
And what a great adventure it was! An unmotivated teen finally finds something that spurs her from the bottom 1% of life to find her father. Yes, that’s plenty to get a person motivated and it proves to be just what the protagonist needs. A great read 🙂
Wow this read is Epic. It grabs you right from the beginning. I didn’t want to put this read down. Lana really wants to know her father better, Lana faces new challenges. There are lots of twists turns in the read. The Author really brings out the Characters. And you can visually see as you read in your minds eye. This is definitely a must read, and one I wouldn’t mind seeing made into a Movie. To me this is an Epic read worth more than 5 stars. And a definite must read.

I’ve never read this author before but the blurb for this story (okay and the cover) really caught my eye. I have been diving into YA reads lately and have found some wonderful reads; just like this book.
Lana (the leading lady of this story) and a witch, is such a fun character. She is strong and independent but still trying to find where so fits in life. I loved her passion for new people and her life path. She is out one day and she finds a shifter. This shifter gives Lana a riddle friend her father. Finding her father is Lana’s ultimate goal. This story was filled with riddles (such fun to try and figure out before the characters), a brilliant and beautiful Faerie world and wonderful encounters. I had such fun reading this story and hope to be able to dive back into the world in the future.
While I would issue any spoilers for this book, I must say that any paranormal readers will enjoy this adventure. I received an ARC and am leaving an honest review.
Lana is a witch who has only known one parent and that is her mother. She doesn’t know anything about her father or who he is as her mother won’t talk about him. The only thing Lana knows about her father is that he abandoned them before she was born.
Lana is sort of a loner with only one friend to speak of, Finn. Finn and Lana have been best friends for most of their lives. Lana likes to keep to herself never going out but Finn won’t let that happen as he tries to make sure that she gets out and socializes a little. Finn like Lana has only known one parent his mother as well. Finn’s father died when he was just a baby.
Lana has always wanted to know about her father who he is and why he abandoned her. She may just get her wish when an elf shows up on her door step with clues as to how to find her father. Lana enlists her best friend Finn’s help to solve the puzzle and find her father.
After following all the clues they find the entrance to her father’s home. They find the gateway or bonegate to Faerie where her father lives and rules as the King. In order to get to know her father Lana must participate in a tournament with her twelve siblings and win.
Hawk Witch is a magically enthralling read that will keep you flipping the pages wanting to know what is going to happen next. The magic itself is so very enthralling. The tournament was amazing with all the different magic that each character used. Hawk Witch is a great introduction into the world of a brand new series The Bonegate Series. I can’t wait to read more about these wonderful characters, the Faerie realm and the magic in the next book Assassin Witch coming soon.
I recommend Hawk Witch to all fans of witches, faerie, magic and fantasy.
I really enjoyed this book and have high hopes for the rest of the series. Lana is a witch with an absent Father, so when an opportunity to meet him comes up, she can’t say no. This takes us on the journey, where she finds out about her father and where her heritage come from. She discovers more then she imagined! I highly recommend this book. It is well written and the story flows well.
Loved this book! A great way to start the series. Lana is such a lovable character as is Finn. I am excited to follow their journey throughout the series. I am so excited for book 2!
What an awesome way to learn more about the magical world of Fae. One day you are on Earth and you get a riddle you know you can’t solve to meet the father you never knew. Your best friend will help just to end up in the middle of a world neither one of you and others knew about. It is an amazing story with twist and turns and storylines that keep you on edge of seat. You wont regret reading this adventure
