When a marriage of convenience turns into the passion of a lifetime… iron fist that sometimes threatens to squeeze the life out of me. What I want more than anything is to live again – let go of the hurt smothering every bit of light I have in this darkness.
I don’t expect it to come in the form of a Moonshiner’s daughter needing my protection.
Leighton Strather
My whole life has been defined by who my family is. In the state of Alabama, we’re number one with a target on our backs. The danger and prestige isn’t for me. I don’t care about the money, and I care too much about the families we’ve ruined.
My brother and my dad are proud of it. They wear their arrest records like a badge of honor. Me? I want as far away from the lifestyle as I can get.
It’s the only reason I ask Holden to marry me. At least that’s what I tell myself.
I never expect his whispered yes to cause such upheaval in my life. Even though I resist, I learn some havoc is good – and this one? It’s a whirlwind of lust, hope, and love and all I can do is let it sweep me away.

Third book in this series and I have to say probably my most favorite. I absolutely love Havoc. I love how he does whatever is needed to protect someone he cares about. This man will do whatever it takes to protect the one person he is falling for if not has already fallen for. This story line was yummy. There was just something about it that drags you in and has you holding on until the very end to see what is going to happen between these two. I absolutely loved watching them get together and fall in love. Just something amazing about their path to love. I loved these two characters so very well written and intense. Laramie did an amazing job with this one and made it my favorite out of all 5 books in the series
Oh how I love this series! I’ve loved each book on its own, each character for different reasons but now I can say I love Havoc the most.
He’s perfect. He’s protective, dominant, will give you the shirt off his back, he goes to any lengths necessary to protect those who need it and that got him Leighton Strather.
Having been saved by Havoc and settling into her new life she questions what their relationship is, what it means. She fights against developing any feelings for the man who saved her fearing heart break.
Havoc fights his own demons, his past made him a man who never wanted a wife, never wanted anything permanent but permanent is what he has and now he has to deal with how that makes him feel.
All the while they’re still after Leighton’s father, her brother’s still in prison and her father wants her head.
Havoc is well paced, with a story line the sucked me in from chapter one and didn’t let go until the end. I read this in one day with few interruptions!
Dare to take a chance at winning forever…
The sad thing is everyone in this town knows my name and where I came from and the fact my family is rotten to the core and they don’t care.
Even when I’m brave enough to try an escape their grasp they’ll make sure I’ll suffer in more ways then one.
Until one day the last person I’d ever expect any help from is the only one daring enough to protect me from my family.
By putting a ring on my finger and changing my last name to his.
I’m a man of my word and I promised to protect her from her family and I seriously meant it; I still remember the time we shared a moment of madness in the most public way and I’d warned her then.
But it was the day Blaze had taken care of her after her dad did a number on her that I finally put my foot down.
As the days keep rolling by and no matter how many hot fantasties they have or the fact there’s an undeniable attraction between them neither of them is brave enough to actually do something about it.
Holden was tired more so then normal and all he wanted was to go home but by the time he finally got there he could barely function let alone think.
But Leighton took over the best she could and when he woke her with a bad dream she patiently calmed him down until he fell asleep again.
Holden realized just as much as she did there relationship was taking a total different loop to loop meander here and there from z to a instead of step one, two, and so forth.
However honestly and even change aren’t bad things nor is waiting for the right moment.
What started out as a nice time out with his wife and his friends turned into something so much more that it darn near drove him crazy that he barely got them home.
Holden couldn’t believe of all the worse luck in the world to have one of his guys kill the best moment of his life.
Yeah she’d been disappointed just when they’d finally saw the light and were right in the middle of him…That’s when his job demanded his immediate attention.
But the next time nothing short of a nuclear expulsion was going to stop her from finally getting more then a taste.
Tonight is one of those nights you truly wished never happened but unfortunately sometimes all you can do is contain the scene and go from there.
I had a horrible sinking feeling but I needed to know the truth even if my wife was the only one there who knew it.
Now I’m left trying to figure out how to protect her while still doing my job then It finally dawns on me; I know just who to ask for help.
My job is to put criminals behind bars and today is the day of reckoning.
So happy for Holden & Leighton’s HEA! We got to see the beginning of their story at the end of Tank, and I was hoping theirs would go something like it did.
Their marriage of convenience was a joy because even though they weren’t sure of the others’ deep feelings for a while, they had a friendship & attraction that kept them from any unnecessary relationship drama. There’s a lot going on w/ her family, which provides drama, but the relationship building is wonderfully paced.
This was a fun & sweet read with the right amount of steamy times sprinkled in.
: )
Holden and Leighton are a perfect match! You would think that these two were enemies but that is just not the case. They just fit. They have hot and steamy chemistry and develop a wonderfully beautiful friendship. It was amazing to take this journey with them.
Laramie Briscoe has a way of writing a great story that pulls you in, bringing out emotions, keeps you entertained and warms your heart. I couldn’t put this book down.
I think this has to be my fave book in the series so far! A fab read….
I thoroughly enjoyed the previous two books in the Moonshine Task Force series but there was just something about Havoc that grabbed me that little bit more.
Holden (Havoc) and Leighton were great together. The story, for me, had a real ‘family & belonging’ vibe that worked really well.
Holden is a great guy. He’s caring, protective, patient and seriously hot. His initial reasoning for his marriage to Leighton is for her safety, so it’s a marriage of convenience as far as his new wife is concerned but from the get go, the union means a lot more to him.
Leighton has never felt like she belonged. From a family pretty much hated by everyone who knows them she never fitted in at home or within the community. Holden is her safe place and she grows comfortable in her relationship with him, even while knowing it’s unlikely to last once the threats to her have passed. The thing is, even though not as strongly as Havoc, Leighton is beginning to look at their relationship in a different light too……. maybe this could be THE place where she finally does belong.
Thing between the pair were a slow burn. Holden doesn’t want to spook her and Leighton doesn’t want to push for things he might not be willing to offer, but watching things between them grow and develop was fab. They were so good together that you could do nothing but root for them from the get-go. I loved how they got to know each other and how their marriage became more than just a convenience.
This was a well written engaging and heartwarming story from Laramie Briscoe and I can’t wait to see what she gives us next in this series!
Havoc gets 5 great big stars from me!
Man oh man do I love me some Havoc! He is the man! I mean he is a tortured soul and carries all this weight on his shoulders. When all he really wants to do is get out of the darkness and have some light. But being the Leader of The Moonshine Task Force has its responsibilities and he takes them serious and he is willing to risk his life to protect his men. So when he finds himself protecting one of the most notorious moonshiner’s daughter he is finding out that letting go of the past to move on to the future is possible.
Leighton has spent her whole life living in the shadow of her brother and father. All she wants is to be free of this world and life and have a happy free life. So she decides she is going to ask Havoc for protection in the form of a marriage proposal. Havoc agrees and two get married but will this marriage just be one of convenience or will they both let go of their past hurts and open up to each other and give this marriage a go.
What I love so much about this series is the next book picks up right where the one before ends. Now don’t me wrong there are no cliffhangers and every book is a standalone.
This is Havoc and Leighton’s story. Now there relationship did not start out the conventional way, however their story is one of my favorites. If you have read the first two books you know who Leighton is and what her family does. What is so special about her is she wants to better herself. Havoc is her knight and shinning armour. He makes feel safe and makes her believe there really are people with good hearts out in the world. The way she comes out of her shell and into her own person is great.
Havoc being all man never imagined he could have the life like his friends. After saving Leighton he starts to believe differently. Their feelings are there, but takes forever for the two of them to admit it to each other. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series.
I am so in love with the heroes in this series!! Havoc is out of this depth with Leighton. He wants to protect her and can’t imagine his life without her in it now. He didn’t see the outcome when he married her, he didn’t see the control he would need to stay away from her physically or the way he was going to fall in love with her. He was a man who would do whatever it takes to protect her, even from himself.
Leighton couldn’t believe all that Havoc was doing for her. She wasn’t used to anyone actually wanting to help her due to who her family is. She knows she’s not like her family but will she be able to show everyone else that she wasn’t like them or were they going to lump her in with her family. Once she gets to know the crew of Moonshine Task Force her life changes. Will she be able to show Havoc that she loves him no matter the age difference or who her family is? Will her family ruin everything for her like they have been her entire life?
Absolutely awesome read about Havoc and his wife Leigh. Another great installment in the MTF series. Havoc is the leader of the taskforce, and Leigh is the daughter of a moonshine runner the taskforce is trying to bring down. You can only imagine how that will go
Holden “Havoc” Thompson is the leader of the Moonshine Task Force and he will do anything for the good of it. When do I get my turn to live again? Leighton Strather walks into my life needing help and it changes everything. I marry to save her but it is really her saving me but can I really be worth this woman? This book moved me so much, it was so much of a push and pull on my emotions. Havoc and Leighton are perfect for each other. They will melt your kindle with the heat they put off. Great read, Great series and perfect romance.
Havoc is the third book in the Moonshine Task Force (MTF) series and it just keeps getting better. This book has the older man younger woman trope with a little hint of forbidden love written in, as Holden is the leader of MTF and Leighton is the daughter of the most wanted moonshiner in the state.
Leighton grew up the only daughter in a family with a moonshine legacy. Their family of all males are abusive, cold, ruthless and only have one thing that’s important to them and that’s the moonshine and what they can profit out of it. Leighton was very close to her younger brother growing up, but that bond is tested when he goes to jail for causing the accident that almost killed Tank in book two. Their father drilled into their heads that their mother ran off when they were young because they were terrible kids and she didn’t want to be a mother. Leighton longed to have a caring mother to take care of her and her brother and always wondered where she was. Will she ever find out what really happened?
Holden met Leighton when he came to their home to talk with their father when Leighton was just a teenager. Leighton was smitten with the handsome and rugged law man. Years later their paths cross again in a bar when Leighton’s friends give her a dare to kiss the first man that walks through the door. Leighton took the bet and fate would have it that Holden was the first one through that door. She walked up to him and laid an amazing kiss on him that neither one could forget.
Leighton hated being a part of their family’s moonshine business and wanted to escape and make something of her life. She worked on the family’s books because she was good with numbers and was able to squirrel away money hiding it in the ledgers until one day her father caught on. He beat her up and she was able to escape and vowed never to return. Blaze saw her and treated her for her injuries, but Blaze also called Holden so he was aware of the situation. Holden arrived and after they discussed what happened he offered Leighton to take her home and live with him, under his protection until they figured something out. That turned out to be a marriage of convenience, that really wasn’t so convenient, if you get my drift. The attraction was already there.
I won’t give away any more of the story. This is my favorite so far in the MTF. I loved Holden and Leighton’s characters and their development throughout the story. There was a lot of sexual tension and slow build to their relationship. Their chemistry was off the charts! The secondary characters were strong and provided great support for the couple. There was a terrific mystery going on with the moonshine and with new characters that were introduced. The pace and flow of the book was on point. This book can be read as a standalone, but to really enjoy the richness of the characters, start from the beginning! I can’t wait for the next book!
Leighton and Holden has this chemistry that is so explosive that you wish you could have it. They both are so afraid of how much they want each other that they don’t know what will happen if they give into their love. Holden wants to protect her from everything and everyone. Leighton is scared that he does not want her in the same way she wants him but when they finally give in they can’t get enough of each other but danger lurks around the corner for them.
Can Leighton and Holden survive? Will they be able to make a go of their marriage?
I received this book as an ARC copy for a voluntarily honest review. I recommend this book to anyone who likes danger and romance.
I have come to love the crew of the MTF! I loved Havoc’s story. I saw it developing when I finished Tank. We have come to know Havoc when we started this series as the leader of MTF. He seems passionate about his job and it always came first. I was sad to see that he did not show any signs of having a relationship, he was married to the job until Leigh came into the picture. For her safety, he married Leigh out of convenience. But the chemistry these two have was unbelievable.
Leigh seems wiser than her years. She has a maternal side to her even though she has no kids. I love that she has a plan in her life. She always trusted Holden “Havoc” since day one. She knows the marriage is false, but has hope that it will eventually grow into love and something real.
The drama is still there and I loved how Havoc and Leigh grow together. We still see the sexy team show up in the book and I love that it feels like a family bringing it home. The sexy scenes are amazingly hot. A lot comrade with this group. The friendships that grow within the town is amazing. I can not wait for the book in this series and read Ace’s story!
