2015 IPPY Bronze Medal Winner in the category of Romance What happens to the happily ever after when the ever after has already happened? A “spirited” courtship indeed! Jane Austen’s much adored Pride and Prejudice is transfigured in this Regency adaptation. That fickle friend Fate intervenes when an unexpected event threatens the happily ever after of literature’s favorite love … after of literature’s favorite love story. The gentlemen from Netherfield have left, winter is upon the land, and after a horrifying carriage accident, Elizabeth Bennet finds her spirit transported as if by magic into Mr. Darcy’s London home. Paranormally tethered to the disagreeable man, it doesn’t help that he believes she is a phantasm of his love-struck mind and not the real Elizabeth. Somehow they must learn to trust, learn to love and learn to bring Elizabeth back to her earthly form before it is too late.more
I have read several books by this author and have enjoyed them all. The writing style is excellent. As the title of the book indicates, Mr. Darcy is being haunted. And we can guess that it has something to d wth our heroine, Elizabeth Bennet. But how does this come to pass and and what can it mean for their future? Very entertaining, sweet, clean variation. Loved it!
Delightful, suspenseful, paranormal P&P drama, couldn’t put it down
I have not read a more suspenseful, funny, and intriguing, totally exciting, and a simply couldn’t put it down story in forever. This was the most fun I’ve had with our beloved P&P characters. WOW!!!
Not since the 1990 paranormal movie ‘Ghost’ have I been more on the edge of my seat as I was with this story. The book cover was wonderful. As you can tell by the reviews, most everyone loved it. I am still blown away. I sat up late into the night and finally forced myself to go to bed. The next day, like another reviewer, I read until I discovered it was lunch and I was still in pjs… could-not-put-it-down.
Read the other reviews… I read them first and was glad I did. This story variation gives the most face time between Elizabeth and Darcy of any book… JAFF and otherwise… that I’ve read. We’ve always wanted them to have more time together and they are literally bound together by FATE and cannot go further than ten paces from each other. This creates several funny situations.
Elizabeth thinks she is dreaming. Darcy thinks it is his imagination. The servants, Georgiana and the Colonel think Darcy has lost it. We, as readers, wonder if she has died and he alone holds her spirit to the corporeal world. Something is keeping her tethered to earth and Darcy, but what?
I loved seeing the Bennet family rally around Elizabeth’s accident. The most profound was Lydia’s reaction to her older sister’s health and well being… and her reaction to Wickham.
I think the author missed an opportunity for Colonel Fitzwilliam to reveal war / battlefield experiences. There have always been stories of out of body experiences throughout time and he would have heard them from his men. But that might have distracted from the story. There were minimal editing errors.
I loved it, so glad I bought it, will read it again and again… when my heart can stand it. Oh…it is a keeper.
Fantastic paranormal spin on “Pride & Prejudice” that is cleverly executed to reach the Happily-Ever-After Austen fans expect.
This was another great book by KaraLynne Mackrory! I love her Austenesque books and the way she breathes new life into the characters from Pride and Prejudice. This was a very fun and entertaining story with an intriguing plot that drew me into books world. Seeing the relationship between Elizabeth develop while they are forced into eachothers company like this was really fun and I loved Richard Fitzwilliam and Georgiana in this book even though I would have liked to see more of them. The epilogue at the end of the book was really sweet as well. I hope to read more by this author.
