Theirs was a love they couldn’t let go. Would fate give them a second chance?Stacy McGill met the love of his life before he was even old enough to shave. She was his best friend and his soulmate, but they were both so young time and circumstances tore them apart. His boss, Thomas Meenan, offers him a place to stay while he works things out. When he meets his new neighbor the past and future collide offering him the second chance of a lifetime.
Janine Banner had it rough in high school. She was an outsider, an overweight myopic teen whose only friend was the boy who won her heart. Before graduation, she planned a night to remember with him, only to have her dreams stolen away by a jealous girl who wanted him for herself. Leaving all hope of love behind her forever, Janine runs away and embarks on a life fighting for justice by the dim glow of her computer screen. It’s a lonely life until Thomas Meenan tracks her down in Italy, and offers her a job with Chimera, hacking the network of a ruthless Russian arms dealer.
Love gets a second chance when these two find out together that happily ever after can still happen, even after you’ve given up on it.

Another well written story full of drama, angst, suspense, heartache and romance. I love a great second chance story that takes you through all emotions and Haunted really took me on an emotional ride. Janine and Stacy were meant to be together and destiny (with a little help from Tony, Janine’s boss) brought them back together. Once reunited they finally tell each other how they really feel about each other. Can they finally get their HEA?
Anyone reading my previous reviews knows that if you put a kitten into a good book, I’ll like it even more. This isn’t one of those. I can’t possibly enjoy this book any more, cat or no cat. Spook is cute but hey, cute isn’t everything.
What’s everything is the undying love that is contained within these pages when you know who your one and only is, no matter how many miles or years go by. That’s what Janine and Stacy had from their teen years on. Janine was a very, very smart girl who wore thick glasses and was overweight. I can identify with that, SO much. Then we have Stacy who was cute then, but really grew up, and I say that in my lowest, purringest voice. I love hunks that know what to do when the woman says “I love you”. And believe me, it isn’t to tie her up and pretend they’re Christian Grey, lol.
I refuse to give away any part of this story in this review, the book is too good for me to do that. I “discovered” Ms. Cain a short while ago thanks to a giveaway she was a part of. This is the second book of hers I’d read and had posted reviews in other places, but not here. I’m positive the girl knows how to tell a story. And in case I didn’t say it before, if you were looking for a plain, ordinary, blah romance with no sex, no heat, no steam, and no humor – go elsewhere. This one has heat, steam, lots of humor, some wonderful bedroom playtime, and a touch of suspense, along with anything else that Ms. Cain needed to add to tell the story. This book doesn’t contain any bondage, no violence, and no doubt that the two main characters were not only developed really well, they’re also very much in love. Thank you Cybill Cain for writing this book. Five stars, should really be seven or eight. But true to keeping with my rules, you made me giggle, you made me laugh out loud (Batman and Catwoman), you made me remember lines in movies I thought I’d forgotten, you made me remember how incredibly soothing and romantic Bob Seger is, you made me cry happy tears, you made me go “awwww” when Spook showed up, you made me remember how sweet it is when the love of your life loves you back, but most of all, you gave me a great book to read today.
This is a super cute, steamy, and action-y story! Stacy & Janie are childhood BFF’s/sweethearts, separated by misunderstanding (and the machinations of a petty mean girl). When they meet again, that connection is still there – and their banter is HILARIOUS! I love the “nerd humor” sprinkled in. I loved how their boss/friend worked together to get them back together, and also the spy-stuff.
All in all, this story is a LOT of FUN & I’m looking forward to reading Escape & Delicious! : )
