KATThis isn’t a love story… met.
I never expected to see him again.
I never expected that he (and all his trouble) would find me.
And absolutely never, never expected that one day he’d try to so hard to become the man I call “Boss.”
This is our story.
I warned you that love wasn’t a part of it…
If only I remembered to heed that warning, too.
AUTHOR’S NOTE: This is a full-length, stand alone, second chance/enemies to lovers romance in the suspense-filled Hating Him series. This book contains surprising twists, humor and heat. Happy Reading!

Hating the Boss is the first book in a series by one of my favorite suspense romance authors, Natalie E. Wrye! I have read all of her books and have beta read most of them. I just love how she makes me think, laugh, and tingle sometimes all at once. Before I start talking about the story I want to explain that if you read a Paradise Forbidden then you have met Kat and Ethan (known as Trevor). This is a complete re-write of their story. It’s not the same story. They might have the same names, kinda but they are not the same in personalities. It’s hard to explain. Overall…if you read Paradise Forbidden …read this. If you didn’t…read Riske and Revenge. **Edit. This is a new edition of Riske and Revenge. It’s been re-edited. Third times a charm!
Nine years. It’s been nine years since Kat has seen Ethan Riske. The boy that found trouble. The boy that she loved at seventeen. The boy that disappeared that same year. She hasn’t seen him but she knew he was now the man that she hated. He was also the man she couldn’t forget. The man who tortured her in his dreams and in her heart. Now nine years later, she sees him again. And damn him for looking even sexier and more sophisticated in his three piece suits. And fuck him for wanting to ruin her. She wants her revenge but can she do that and keep her body from betraying her?
Brendon Foxx has it all. CEO. Nice rides. Sweet office. Kickass friends. As many women as he wants. But there is still one thing he doesn’t have. Her. The girl who he left behind in Tennessee. The girl that he could be himself around. The one girl that didn’t chase him. The girl of his dreams. That was all she was now. A dream. Until, he sees Kat once again. She was reality but not his. He saw the look in her eyes and they were not kind. He knew that look. He was fucked and not in a good way.
Kat and Ethan’s relationship is complex. They thought they knew each other nine years ago but now? Their chemistry was still there. Kat’s feistiness was still intact. Ethan’s trouble-making smirk was still panty melting but he wasn’t the same person who left Tennessee or was he and Kat didn’t see it? She might have some glimpses but not this. Will she even see her Ethan again or is it too late?
I liked their story the first time around and also the second but the third? Kick ass. The writing is more addicting. The characters are more developed. The storyline is just more. I laughed more. The heat rose. The suspense was less predictable. I am excited about the rest of the series of remakes. Natalie totally kicked ass with this one! It’s crazy how two years can make you develop in writing which was when this was previously edited and beta read.
Quotes:
It was the slowest word battle in the history of all fucking communication combat.
Surviving Ethan Riske was a miracle I’d only had to do once. I wasn’t quite sure I could do it again.
She was the song that my heart had never stopped singing.
Kat made a mistake the day she laid eyes on Ethan, the small town prince. She fell for him and has scars to prove it. Seven years later, Ethan is back. This time he wants much more than a short romance. He wants Kat’s publishing company, her and her obedience. – This second-chance/enemies-to-lovers romance was a disappointment. The first nine chapters went back and forth, nine years ago to present. I started to quit reading it several times but continued. I liked Kat and Ethan. The story was just okay. It ended abruptly and apparently continues somewhat in the next book hat is about Kat’s sister and one of Ethan’s friends.
A great story of unforgettable lost love. Kat and Ethan are kindred spirits but treachery and secrets separate them. Neither can forget the other and when their paths cross again, despite her hurt Kat can’t forget how he makes her feel. Forces are at work as history seems to be repeating, and someone is trying to keep them apart. The author weaves the story beautifully, flitting between past and present, so we can really see the depth of emotion and connection between the two MC’s. A great read.
I enjoyed this book. Finished it in a weekend and it was just what I was looking for.
Loved it . This is a hot and steamy story I recommend this book.
didn’t finish it . didn’t like it .too much sex, not enough story
So much of this book did not make sense!! There were things that they made a big enough deal about to make you think they would come back to them later, and then they didn’t. There were tiny things that came back up over and over. The best friend relationship was super confusing. The flipping back and forth between the past and present was confusing. Not because of the way it was presented. I always knew when was past and when was present but in the past, nothing was explained. Totally weird.
Difficult situations as teenagers tear the main characters apart. They are unknowingly living in the same city and now in the same line of business about ten years later. The ensuing story of their reunion and mending fences is very good reading.
Nice reconnecting romance.
First love, betrayal and finally forgiveness makes this a wonderful read!
Didn’t hold my interest at all
This book drew me in from the beginning and had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Ethan Riske and Kat Lexington have a past that is complicated and full of old emotions. Now, years later they are competitors in the publishing world. When they meet face to face after years of being apart, you can literally feel the sparks and chemistry flying off the pages but the past and old hurts are keeping them from moving forward. Add in a person out for revenge and both of them being victims of arson, you have one heck of a story on your hands. This story had my heart pounding from page to page. Just when I thought I knew what was happening, Natalie threw a curve ball and I couldn’t believe the shocking twist. I loved every moment of this book and the ending had me swooning. Ethan and Kat’s story will keep you intrigued from start to finish. Don’t miss out on this romantic and suspenseful read.
I’m usually all for a second chance romance. There’s just something about a couple who are good together getting their chance to reconnect and find that spark again. On that front, this pair does get that, but I had trouble connecting to the story and the characters. The story is a bit choppy as it moves back and forth between past and present and there are some scenes that have little to nothing to do with the story. My biggest problem was with the maturity, or lack of maturity, of the main characters. I expected them to be juvenile in their teenage flashbacks, but these two seemingly intelligent professionals were just as immature years later. All combined, there were more negatives than positives for me with this one.
