Hathaway House: Aaron (Book 1)Welcome to Hathaway House, a heartwarming military romance series from USA TODAY best-selling author Dale Mayer. Here you’ll meet a whole new group of friends, along with a few favorite characters from Heroes for Hire. Instead of action, you’ll find emotion. Instead of suspense, you’ll find healing. Instead of romance, … oh, wait. … There is romance—of course!Welcome … course!
Welcome to Hathaway House. Rehab Center. Safe Haven. Second chance at life and love.
Former Navy SEAL Aaron Hammond has no idea how he wound up at Hathaway House, Texas. Nor does he particularly care. All he can see is his anger. Anger at the betrayal that destroyed his physical body and at the loss of the future he wanted but that he’ll never have now. He’s a cripple, less than half a man, and all he can look forward to is a half life, alone with himself and his pain.
Dani Hathaway runs Hathaway House with her father, an ex-military man nicknamed the Major, and she knew Aaron and his brother SEAL Levi in another life. Levi was a good friend to her through her difficult teen years, but it was Aaron who caught her eye more than a decade ago. When she heard what happened to him, she moved heaven and earth to get him to Hathaway House, where she could help him regain his health and return him to the man he used to be.
Old feelings resurface as Dani continues to push Aaron to acknowledge that his life is not over, and that, if he chooses, he can find both love and a future at Hathaway House.

A beautiful story between Aaron, a retired SEAL, who after suffering from devastating injuries, now on the mend, gets moved to a Hathaway House, a rehabilitation facility for wounded soldiers. Dani runs the place with her dad and knows Aaron from before, she was Levi’s B.F. in school and Aaron is Levi’s younger half brother. Dani recognizes Aaron right away but doesn’t let on, Aaron figures it out later and what they both don’t know is that each had feelings for the other when they were younger. But now Aaron is lost and depressed feeling like half a man and Dani is doing her best to reach the troubled man…will he finally listen.
A heartwarming, heartfelt read that had me in tears near the end and feeling throughout it. There are no steamy scenes but the sparks were still there and the connection. I loved this first book in this series, and even though there was no suspense it didn’t stop me from flipping the pages to read about a SEAL who has to come to terms with his injuries and fight his way back to the land of the living and not give up.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Aaron is a wounded Seal who must learn to cope with the loss of his leg and his back injuries. He is also the brother of Levi from the Heroes for Hire series. Dani Hathaway and her father run Hathaway House where the wounded get all the treatment needed but at a high cost. Levi has paid for Aaron’s care but Dani must keep his name out of it as Aaron does not accept charity well. Aaron has a story that one of his fellow Seals was responsible for the death of the team and the injury of Aaron but the government does not believe him. Levi begins an investigation.
What is unique about Hathaway House is that they not only treat the humans who have been injured but also animals. Both humans and animals learn from each other.
A very emotional story which does tug on your feelings.
I would recommend this book.

Nobody does beloved alpha wounded warriors like Mayer, and I love the SEALs of Honor series, but I was about 30% in before I made the connection that our hero, Aaron, was THAT Levi’s brother. Aaron has been wounded in combat and just isn’t healing the way he should in the veteran’s hospital. An anonymous donor makes it possible for him to go to Hathaway House, a wonderful facility with a terrific track record of treating veterans. It just happens to be run by Aaron’s childhood crush, Dani Hathaway, who was his brother Levi’s best friend.
Aaron is wounded more than physically with his back injuries and leg amputation. He’s haunted by betrayal from his brother in arms and estranged from his only remaining family, his brother, Levi. Then there are the psychological aspects that often accompany combat and combat injuries. Hathaway House is the perfect place for him to heal and rehabilitate, if he’ll just get out of his own way. But Dani’s tough love approach and the amazing rescue animals begin to work their magic on Aaron, and Aaron’s interaction with these special animals are some of the most beautiful, special scenes in the book.
I’m head over heels for this new series, and Aaron’s story is a fantastic start! His story is one of vindication, healing and redemption and an inspiration to read. Mayer has a way of bringing the reader into the story, and I felt every bit of Aaron’s pain, disillusionment and frustration, then cheered as his resolve and determination to take charge of his life took hold. His story is devastating and heartbreaking, poignant and tender, and triumphant and uplifting, and I can’t wait to see Hathaway House work its magic on more wounded souls! If you like strong military heroes who’ve lost their way find healing, new beginnings and a happily ever after, you’ll love Aaron and Dani’s story!

Aaron Hammond is a former Navy SEAL and he has no idea how he arrived at Hathaway House in Texas. He was badly injured as part of betrayal that has destroyed his body, his career and his future and is consumed by a wave of profound anger that overtakes every other thought, feeling and experience he is currently having. Hathaway House is run by Dani Hathaway and her father. She knew Aaron and his brother Levi years ago and when she hears about Aaron (who she had a crush on years ago) she moves every obstacle to get him to her house for his rehabilitation determined to get him back to the way he used to be before the injury and anger. The old feeling will resurface as Dani constantly pushes him to accept that his life is not over but in fact, could be great.
This was a powerful first book in this new series which focussed on the physical, mental and spiritual healing that is needed after a serious military injury. The back story of the betrayal and old attraction was a nice touch that added lots of nice detail to this story. This was well written and suitably dramatic as well as suitably romantic. A lovely story with a sweet HEA at the end which will make you smile.
A contemporary romance and the beginning of yet another series. How fun is this? It is actually great because it’s full of wonderful people and how they face life, help others and survive. Some betrayal but solved. Some romance, nicely done. Along with honesty, integrity and loyalty which we have come to know and love with this author. A comfortable enjoyable story that I’ll read it again. Well done!
This is a wonderful start to the Hathaway House series, it’s incredibly well-written with a sweet emotional storyline. Aaron is at Hathaway House, a rehab centre for humans and animals. His childhood crush, Dani runs the centre with her father and all sorts of other doctors. Aaron is emotional after a major betrayal by his best friend while away on a SEAL mission, now out the navy, recovering from a massive injury, he needs to reconnect with people especially his brother Levi( I love visits from old friends), who offers his assistance with putting old ghosts to rest while Aaron works on himself and his new relationship with Dani.
Well-written story, a wonderful emotional storyline, the characters are incredibly likable and relatable, you can feel the chemistry between Dani and Aaron. Definitely recommend this book.

There are just not enough words to say how much I loved this book. It was so real and made me really think about how our military goes through so much that most people do not even realize. It had a great story line and the characters were so real. I loved how Dale brought characters from one of her other series into the book, but made this a totally separate series. I just cannot say enough how I love how Dale writes such great stories that hit home with a lot of people and especially our military. Loved this book and look forward to more great books and characters in the next books of the series!

I was only a short way thru this book and was like “wow”. Aaron, on top of his devastating, injuries also has to deal with betrayal. The whole premise of the facility is fantastic. Wounded soldiers with wounded animals to help each other thru the hard times. Of course, finding love along the way is a bonus. I always always enjoy when Dale Mayer brings in characters from her other series. It’s like reconnecting with old friends
In this first book of the series, we get our first look at the members of Hathaway House which is run by Dani Hathaway and her father, the Major. Turns out Hathaway House is a rehab center for both military members and animals.
When Aaron gets transferred to Hathaway House, one of the biggest questions is why his recovery has stalled. There doesn’t appear to be any physical reason why he isn’t improving. As the story progresses, we learn what happened to cause his injuries, why him and his brother are estranged, and more of the history between him and Dani.
Dani is used to dealing with the range of emotions from the patients, but Aaron tests her resolve as they start spending more time together. Loved her attitude about life and how she knew herself so well – although that didn’t keep her from being vulnerable. This was a great start to this series.
This book has all the feels!
Aaron was wounded while serving his country, and Dani is part owner of a rehab facility unlike any other.
Dani has to keep a secret about how it came about that Aaron was transferred to her facility, and it’s not easy because they have known each other since childhood. Will Aaron trust Dani when he finds out who his benefactor is?
I laughed, and I cried while reading this book. I hope this becomes a long series.. 30 books should about cover it 😉
Dale Mayer is one of my favourite authors.. I swear she could make reading the cornflakes box interesting HA.
Another keep you up reading till dawn story.

What comes out about how he received his injury is devasting. The emotional and physical pain, the anger, the hurt. WOW. The beauty and streñgth of Hathaway House, the love, the hope. The ànimals, I am iñ love with series. Thank you Dale Mayer and Booksprout for the arc. Àll thoughts and opinions are my own añd were unsolicited.

Terrific new series…. This is a terrific new series dealing with wounded veterans as they recover. When Aaron, a former SEAL, is transferred to Dani and her father’s rehabilitation center, it’s not what he expected. Aaron is surprised to see animals also with artificial limbs as well. Aaron is carrying a lot of anger and betrayal because of how he lost his leg. Since Aaron’s brother Levi is secretly subsidizing the cost of the center, Dani doesn’t reveal that she recognizes him. Aaron hasn’t spoken to Levi in years and was jealous of Levi’s friendship with Dani in high school. I received a free copy of this book from the author through Booksprout. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This is a terrific new series dealing with wounded veterans as they recover. Dani is a strong woman who has an endless job in aiding the recovery of veterans. It was interesting to see how emotions could hinder recovery and their inability to work towards a better future. Aaron’s emotions change as he is drawn to the goodness in Dani. I enjoy seeing how the animals helped the healing of the veterans as well as giving strength to Dani. This is a sweet clean romance. I recommend this book.
Aaron is a wounded Navy SEAL who needs the people and environment at Hathaway House to heal his physical and emotional injuries, including some he has carried since his youth. Dani and her father (The Major) have created a haven here for both Veterans and animals who need a special place to put bodies, minds and hearts back together.
It is a shock for Aaron to see Dani, a girl from his teens, who runs the day to day operations. Private benefactors donate to sponsor residents and pay operational costs. Aaron’s sponsor is anonymous though their connection is as thick as blood. Past and present soon collide, resulting in a page turner you can’t put down.
The cast of characters includes some favorites from Dale Mayer’s SEALs of Honor/Heroes For Hire series . Hathaway House has already won a place in this reader’s heart!

What an heartwarming beginning to a new series. This is a new view of just how hard out disabled veterans have to continue to fight when they come home from war battered emotionally and broken in body.
Dani, director of Hathaway House a comprehensive rehab facility for injured veterans, accepts Aaron as one of their patients when a private donor personally recommends him. Dani had a crush on him when she was much younger but she is sure she is way over it. This is their story.
Ms. Mayer is such a prolific writer I just don’t understand how she continually develops her characters so well causing me and I’m sure other readers as well to fall in love with them. Great job as always, Ms. Mayer.

I have got to say that this is a terrific start to what I hope will be a long and successful series.
Aaron is sent to Hathaway House to recover from his serious injuries caused in Afghanistan. He is full of bitterness and anger but is surprised to find that an old friend Dani is in charge of the centre.
How he recovers and how his relationship with Dani develops is written with great empathy and skill to make this an exceptionally entertaining and excellent story which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I have loved this authors books from Seals of Honour, heroes for hire, seals of steel and the K9 files, so when I found out about this series I thought yes and I wasn’t disappointed at all. This one features Levi’s brother, Aaron and boy did we get a huge story. Dani was friends with Levi and Aaron as youngsters but as Aaron’s life seemed to be falling apart he joined the military through a betrayal, it left him with back injuries and missing a limb. Dani owns Hathaway house with her dad and they try to put back together injured men and animals. With a budding relationship between Dani and Aaron will it last or will Aaron’s anger get the best of him. A fantastic read. Loved it so much and I can’t wait for the next book to come out.
For me it is understandable that strong brave men who are injured protecting their country can be brought as low as it is possible to get, their only way to try to stand tall again is to do it themselves,.true or false it is all.they have left of themselves. To accept help or charity as they feel that’s what it is just proves they are worthless. This is the mindset for these men and it takes strong will and understanding to get through those tough barriers, love can also help. This new series from Dale Mayer is based at a special rehabilitation hospital, it has a whole lot more going for it than just treating injuries in humans. It has an almost magical sound in the descriptions, very calming surroundings. Aaron has already been betrayed, knocked down by his past and latterly the military, they have let him down big time and now he trusts no one. Dani.knew this would be a hard battle to win and at times it seems she will be the loser, a helping hand and some hard won trust may just be the turning point. Every new series I think won’t be as good as the last, every single time Dale just blows it out of the water,.how she manages to keep juggling so many series all equally as good and not drop the ball I do not know, but she does. Exceptional story that had me gripped throughout and I cannot wait for the next book,.bring it on!
Hathaway House — a specialized place geared to help the wounded veteran recover and heal from injuries of the body and soul. A place which also helps abused and injured animals heal and find trust. Aaron is a SEAL who was injured on duty and now the healing process is slow, the anger deep seated, his focus clouded. Dani is a friend from his past, his past which includes his brother Levi. Through the determination of Dani and members of the Hathaway House staff, and through the magic of the animals, Aaron learns to release and to look forward. A powerful book, a book for all ages. I thought the K9 Files series was great (cheering out loud series), Heroes for Hire and SEALS of Honor were major page turners, but this is a wonderfully unique series and one I look eagerly for the next installment. Bravo, Dale Mayer!

In this, the first book of Dale Mayer’s Hathaway House series, we meet some of the residents and staff of Hathaway House, a top-of-the-line rehabilitation facility in Texas run by Dani Hathaway and owned jointly by Dani and her father, nicknamed the major. A sprawling ranch-like atmosphere where traumatized humans and animals whose recoveries seemed stalled were treated by the best professionals with the best therapeutic equipment and knowledge bases, Hathaway House had a very expensive price tag; but thanks to Dani’s hard work and contacts, they were able to treat up to four patients through donor support. When Aaron arrived, Dani was put into a difficult situation because the donor supporting his costs insisted on remaining anonymous.
Aaron Hammond, whose older half-brother is co-owner of Legendary Security (Heroes for Hire series), struggled his whole life to live up to Levi’s strength and reputation, made even more difficult by Aaron’s attraction to Levi’s high school girlfriend. Even though Aaron knew they’d broken up, Dani would always be his brother’s girl, and thus off-limits to pursue his feelings for her. She didn’t seem to recognize him when he arrived at Hathaway House that first day, which added to the depression he already felt and the obstacles to his recovery. Dani’s anguish at having to keep a secret from him and respecting the professional taboo of relationships between staff and patients provided some pretty interesting interactions between them.
I love, love, love that the SEALs we meet in all of the Mayer series are like family in that they continue to help each other. Aaron is an incredible first step in this new series of amazing books. Don’t miss any of the Hathaway House stories.

Two people at different stages of healing come together to heal together and grow. One a vet trying to move toward but pride and the past is holding back. A friend from before service brings a fresh outlook, old friends/family comes to help too. A moving love story and can not wait for the next book in this series.
