Hathaway House: Aaron (Book 1)Welcome to Hathaway House, a heartwarming military romance series from USA TODAY best-selling author Dale Mayer. Here you’ll meet a whole new group of friends, along with a few favorite characters from Heroes for Hire. Instead of action, you’ll find emotion. Instead of suspense, you’ll find healing. Instead of romance, … oh, wait. … There is romance—of course!Welcome … course!
Welcome to Hathaway House. Rehab Center. Safe Haven. Second chance at life and love.
Former Navy SEAL Aaron Hammond has no idea how he wound up at Hathaway House, Texas. Nor does he particularly care. All he can see is his anger. Anger at the betrayal that destroyed his physical body and at the loss of the future he wanted but that he’ll never have now. He’s a cripple, less than half a man, and all he can look forward to is a half life, alone with himself and his pain.
Dani Hathaway runs Hathaway House with her father, an ex-military man nicknamed the Major, and she knew Aaron and his brother SEAL Levi in another life. Levi was a good friend to her through her difficult teen years, but it was Aaron who caught her eye more than a decade ago. When she heard what happened to him, she moved heaven and earth to get him to Hathaway House, where she could help him regain his health and return him to the man he used to be.
Old feelings resurface as Dani continues to push Aaron to acknowledge that his life is not over, and that, if he chooses, he can find both love and a future at Hathaway House.

Dale Mayer did something different, again. Well yeah, there was still military theme. Yet it brought up in a very different light. Military theme, in contemporary romance. Pure romance, no suspense nor mystery. Not something she usually do.
It turned out great though. Refreshing, in a way. This book, really put the light on what actually these injured vets went through. From agile soldier, task with helping people to need someone else’s help. Sometimes even for a very simple thing. And I could imagine how hard it was, emotionally specially. This gave us a reminder to appreciate what these people did for their country.
As for the romance, I would say Ms. Mayer did very well in this. Romance, in her romance suspense books (psychic or normal) was almost always a bit underdeveloped. I love how it got much bigger portion in this book, along with characters’ development. Looking forward to the next ones.
I was provided a complimentary copy by the author / publisher, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.
This book kicks off a new series, but we see some characters we all know and love. I loved those little cameos. I’m a huge hugs fan of this series already. The Hathaway house does good work and it will hit you in the heart. They help people and animals. Dani is an amazing woman with what she has endured and to still have the heart gold she has. She’s an inspiring character. She’s going to need that heart to help Aaron heal because he has a long road. That journey broke my heart a little. It’s tough to see such a prideful guy struggling, but the magic of the Hathaway house will show Adam what a future could look like. I really can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Aaron was betrayed by his best friend in the military and now finds himself staring down an old crush who just happens to be his brothers best friend form high school. Dani runs Hathaway House, a rehab facility, and thanks to Aaron’s brother, a Seal we have seen and love from another series, finds the man she once had a crush on too. This is a sweet story of healing, second chances, forgiveness, love, acceptance and redemption. It’s a great new series and lovely addition to the Seals world. I volunteered to read this book through Booksprout.
This is a new serie about wounded soldiers and begins with Levi’s halfbrother Aaron. This book is also about healing from the war. Another great book from miss Mayer and couldn’t put It down and received this book via Booksprout for an honest review.
I love emotional tales and tormented heroes, so, after seeing the abstract, I was looking forward to reading Aaron’s and Dani’s story. I was not disappointed. Aaron is a pride, strong man that is learning how to cope with being injured and find the strength to walk the strenuous path towards recovery. Dani is a witty, smart and talented professional who dedicates her life to the healing of wounded veterans. Dani’s influence soon becomes Aaron’s inspiration and motivation, while causing her to face her insecurities. Their emotional journey, surrounded by plenty of sweet four-legged friends, is heartwarming and touching.
Levi, Aaron’s brother and the leading character of one of Ms. Mayer’s military series, plays a key role in the book, to the delight of the author’s faithful readers, and alluring the new ones.
Overall, Aaron is a promising opening for this new series; a clean, inspirational tale that entertains the readers and makes them long to hear more about the veterans of Hathaway House.
Fantastic start to a new series! Dale Mayer does a fantastic job with these wounded warriors, and this book is no exception. Old friends from other series also reappear and are a wonderful contribution to the story.
Aaron feels like he is damaged beyond repair. Dani, a girl from high school, is trying to help him through. Can he realize what’s right in front of him – and take the leap? Read and find out!
The fact that Aaron is Levi’s brother just made this read even better and then the fact that Dani not only knew Aaron when he was younger but also Levi and that they use to hang out together made it the best! You can really feel the wallowing in self pity that Aaron does and you get it when no one will listen or believe you to what really caused his injuries and that in order to move on in anyway he needs to find out the truth as well as build back relationships he once had. There is plenty of emotion to be found in this book along with laughs, betrayal, hope, love and freaking cute animals so what more could you want!!

Aaron by Dale Mayer
Hathaway House Series Book One
Aaron Hammond needed a change. He wasn’t moving forward from his war injuries. After throwing a fit about getting transferred, he found himself at Hathaway House. A new rehab. Another chance at healing.
Dani Hathaway and her father had started Hathaway House after her father was injured in the military. A place to help men heal…and animals. Their veterinary clinic gave animals a second chance and it also helped encourage their human patients.
Aaron and Dani had known each other over a decade ago. His older brother, Levi, had been Dani’s best friend. Now Dani has to keep secrets from Aaron—a man who’d been betrayed in a big way. This is more than a romance as Aaron needs not only to heal physically—but also emotionally.

This book became a favorite from the very first chapter. It contains all of my favorite things. We have animals, and not just any animals, rescued ones as well as family owned. Then we have Aaron, an injured Navy SEAL one who would not be returning to duty. The administrator of Hathaway House, Dani, knows Aaron, on a personal level from a very long time ago, so that gives us the possibility of a second chance at love.
Now Aaron is angry, not only because his career is done, but because of the way it ended. No one believed him and he has been blamed for the ‘accident’ that caused his injuries, injury to two others the death of two of his team, and other person there considered MIA. All this anger and the depression has stalled his healing. He needs to find peace of some sort to move forward.
Dani has to keep some secrets from him, the most important who is funding his stay. The focus has to be on getting Aaron’s emotional and physical injuries back on the healing path.
The path here isn’t much different than other places with the exception of the animals. There’s medical treatments, physical therapy and of course the therapist. For Aaron a big thing would be the animals.
When Aaron inadvertently mentions the events of the day he was injured, Dani knows the only one who can help is Levi but she can’t actually tell him. I loved that Levi called at that moment of indecision for her. Yes you read this right, apparently Levi is Aaron’s brother, and who better to investigate and clear Aaron’s reputation.
I teared up when Levi shows up with Ice and Slade. He wants clarification of some rumors he’s heard. This also keeps Dani in the clear for sort of telling Levi.
I loved every single page of this book as Aaron works toward healing, and the long ago crush takes on new life, as he and Dani get to know each other as adults. The animals stole my heart, dogs, cats, horses they are all in here too.
So much emotion, with laughter, tears and lots of family and romantic love.
I really can’t wait for the next book in this series!
Wounded warriors and the best haven for them. Not only healing their injuries but their souls as well.
These characters reconnected after knowing each other as teenagers. Both had their own paths to follow as they grew. This looks like a promising series, I really enjoyed the first one.
I absolutely love this first book in a new series! The characters are great and the connection to previous series was unexpected and nice. This is a sweet and heartwarming romance. The animal aspect is probably my favorite part. I can’t wait to see all the directions this series goes.
This is a new series for Dale Mayer. It is as always a marvelous book. Aaron war hero meets back up with his well secret crush. However, it isn’t all roses and sunshine. He was blown up by a bomb lost a leg and it was his best friend who did it. Of course, no one believes him because they think Cain was dead and at Aarons hands along with several other Seals. Dani his secret crush just happens to be the person running the center for veterans with physical disabilities that need extra help. Dani wants nothing but to help him and Aaron wants no charity and refuses to accept any help whatsoever. I cannot say too much more without doing a complete spoiler and I try so very hard to keep that from happening. This is a really nice romance book that will make you want to cry laugh and smile.
A beautiful story
Aaron was injured and lost part of his leg when one of his own blew them up, but none of the Navy believed him. He was transferred to Hathaway House because his brother called a mutual friend and offered to pay. Dani knew Aaron and his brother Levi when they were younger and she always had a thing for Aaron. Between the rehab for the animals and the people it would work.
This was a phenomenal read. I loved this sweet story. If Dale Mayer writes it, I will definitely have to read it. Thank you for such an amazing read.
Wow!
So much emotion packed into this wonderful story! Another fabulous series by this amazing author.
A full spectrum rehab center that focuses on moving forward for humans and animals alike. This is a unique concept combined with the sweetest love story that keeps you engaged in every page. You get swept up in Aaron’s emotional and physical obstacles that are preventing him from taking that first step forward towards healing and living his life as it is now.
It really does take a village sometimes to help someone see a different perspective and be able to accomplish a positive attitude to succeed in life. Dani and her team are that village for Aaron.
I love how this story includes characters from the author’s other series, it’s a comfortable blending for the details and back story. I also was excited to see how animals are used as part of an individual’s therapy process to help them gain comfort and confidence without human judgment. It is refreshing to see that the animals receive the same attention, therapy and comfort too.
I loved this story, very heartwarming and satisfying. It packs an emotional punch that leaves you smiling and is a joy to read!
Wow! What a fantastic debut to the heartwarming Hathaway House series by gifted author, Dale Mayer. Hathaway House is a safe haven for injured people and animals, giving them a second chance at life and love. In book one we meet Aaron Hammond, former Navy SEAL who is angry at the betrayal that destroyed his physical body and is Levi’s brother (from the SEALs of Honor series). He also reconnects with childhood crush, Dani Hathaway who runs Hathaway House with her father, an ex-Military man nicknamed the Major. Ms. Mayer has given us another winner with this beautifully written emotional romance and I can hardly wait to see what happens next at Hathaway House. I received an advance reader copy of this book from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
I’m a big fan of Dale Mayer ‘s suspense and paranormal series and this new series is all about romance and I love it, yup it’s difference but I love it a lot.
This one is an emotional heartwarming romance mixed with second chance romance. Aaron’s healing journey with Dani’s help is not easy, no smooth sailing here, so many ups and downs, so many storms to get through. The frustrations are so real, I can feel all their emotions, all the anger. I got teary at some parts, but thank goodness there are plenty of love that warm my heart.
If you’re looking for a heartwarming romance, this book is definitely it.
When Navy Seal Aaron ends up at Hathaway house he wonders what the neck he’s doing at a ranch type house. Then he’s full on anger and pain.He served his country proudly never expecting to be betrayed by us best friend and fellow Navy Seal. When he makes a weird remark about the rest of his life Aaron asks him what’s that supposed to mean? Then he sees him press a,button setting off a bomb.It killed two of Aarons fellow Seal members.Aaron lost his leg and had bad back injuries. Aaron is angry because he wasn’t believed and his commanding officers Don t have his back an blamed him for being careless. The he sees Dani she’s even more beautiful than ten years ago but he hates now she sees him as a token man. There are so many twists and turns to this story will keep you riveted until the very last page.I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes and makes you feel their emotions and their pain. The fact that he’s Levis brother and that Levi and Ice at involved to clear his name. Will Aaron and Dani find healing and love.

Dale Mayer’s current book, Aaron, is an inspirational romance which is a departure from her usual suspense books. Although this is a different genre, Ms. Mayer skillfully creates a novel about a rehab center for injured military people. This center, Hathaway House, is the actual star of this book because everything takes place in and around it.
One of the owners of this facility is Dani Hathaway whose life revolves around helping military people heal physically and mentally from their severe injuries.
Aaron Hammond, a patient of Hathaway House, suffers from severe injuries he incurred while overseas. He has been very angry since he awoke at a VA hospital to discover he has lost a leg. He is moved to Hathaway House since his emotions were keeping him from healing.
In this book, the characters have issues that are not easily solved. However, Ms. Mayer skillfully portrays their mindset as they discover that they are no longer able to take care of themselves.
Even though Dani and Aaron become romantically involved in the book, the major part of the book deals with the ups and downs Aaron must go through before he is actually capable to have any type of relationship.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
