Hathaway House: Aaron (Book 1)Welcome to Hathaway House, a heartwarming military romance series from USA TODAY best-selling author Dale Mayer. Here you’ll meet a whole new group of friends, along with a few favorite characters from Heroes for Hire. Instead of action, you’ll find emotion. Instead of suspense, you’ll find healing. Instead of romance, … oh, wait. … There is romance—of course!Welcome … course!
Welcome to Hathaway House. Rehab Center. Safe Haven. Second chance at life and love.
Former Navy SEAL Aaron Hammond has no idea how he wound up at Hathaway House, Texas. Nor does he particularly care. All he can see is his anger. Anger at the betrayal that destroyed his physical body and at the loss of the future he wanted but that he’ll never have now. He’s a cripple, less than half a man, and all he can look forward to is a half life, alone with himself and his pain.
Dani Hathaway runs Hathaway House with her father, an ex-military man nicknamed the Major, and she knew Aaron and his brother SEAL Levi in another life. Levi was a good friend to her through her difficult teen years, but it was Aaron who caught her eye more than a decade ago. When she heard what happened to him, she moved heaven and earth to get him to Hathaway House, where she could help him regain his health and return him to the man he used to be.
Old feelings resurface as Dani continues to push Aaron to acknowledge that his life is not over, and that, if he chooses, he can find both love and a future at Hathaway House.

I couldn’t put this book down. I read all Dale Mayer books I can find
Great read.
I have read 8 out of 10 of the books in this series. The last two will be offered to the public in Feb. and March. Every book I read has kept me glued to reading, and the stories are eye-opening, heart-warming. The characters are facing hard times trying to recuperate after having monstrous physical trauma and due to the rehabilitation center in the book, they all manage to make it through months of therapy to achieve independent living again and starting a new life with a family!
Dale Mayer is refreshingly consistent in quality and enjoyable characters. I LOVE every one of her books.
I love books like this where they get together at the end and live happily ever after
Easy, quick read
I REALLY enjoyed the book. was very heart warming and understanding of a big problem.
I enjoyed that it grabbed me right from the start, and that the characters were immediately opened as to their parts. It then went on to expand and build around them. The only part that disappointed was that it came to a quick end. Everything solved and wrapped up quickly.
Enjoyed the unique setting and the opportunities for insights into rehab patients.
I really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend this book. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
Really good story. Look forward to more Hathaway House healings.
Awesome book
I have read many Dale Mayer books and I liked in this one there wasn’t an international security threat or someone needing a superhero to be safe. The characters are realistic and compelling and the trials they face are heartbreakingly possible. This book speaks to damage of the body but also the soul. Very enjoyable.
This book was as feel good as a book can get. The Heroine was spunky and dedicated, the Hero was recovering from serious injury, realized his issues and with her help overcome. Great cast of characters and sweet romance. I am looking forward to the next one in this series!! Always enjoy this Author’s books!

This was a delightful heartwarming story. I look forward to more of Hathaway House. The place where veterans go for a chance to heal. I have adored the different series that Ms. Mayer writes. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this type of story from her. I shouldn’t have doubted her. The story flowed beautifully and I read it in one sitting. I adored Aaron (he is related to one of my favorite characters!!!)
My heart ached for the trauma that Aaron suffered at the hands of his best friend. Losing a leg, injuring his back and losing his career in the military was a lot for this man to have gone through. Getting a glimpse into his POV really helped to connect to this wounded man. To fully understand his ordeal and humanize the character, it was a must. The dual POV format is a great way to get closer to these characters. That is why I love books. It is hard to really connect to a character on TV or in the movies as we don’t get the inside scoop of the character.
I highly recommend this sweet clean romance to anyone.
Aaron’s last mission as a Navy SEAL not only left him with career ending injuries but he is still dealing with the emotional aftermath and the betrayal he feels from the way he was treated when he returned home. He has almost given up when he is offered a place at Hathaway House which is renowned for its success with their patients.
Dani and her father operate Hathaway House who help injured veterans recover so that they can start their civilian life. Dani dated Aaron’s brother Levi when she was a teenanger, who we have met in previous books, but their relationship was casual as she had deeper feelings for Aaron which she believed he never returned.
This story is about so much more than the romance between Aaron and Dani. It is an emotional story about healing, family and second chances.
As always, I’m blown away by the talented Dale Mayer. This book is a sweet story of two people finding each other after years apart. Each of them have fought battles of their own, but now they feel a connection to each other. The storyline is magnificent in offering a healing place to veterans and wounded animals as well. Seeing Aaron work through his anger to find healing and the love waiting for him is inspiring. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Wonderful new series. Emotional series dealing with wounded veterans and a place for them to heal and start over. Loved watching Aaron begin to heal and move on with his new life.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started but you can never go wrong with a Dale Mayer book! She is the best at wounded warrior stories and making you care about them from the start. This book is a little different than her others. Yes there is some suspense and challenges to overcome but it’s more of a building romance. I absolutely loved the tie in to some of her other series.
When Aaron arrives at Hathaway House, George tells him “Welcome. Right now you hate it. You want to be anywhere else but here. However, in a couple weeks, you’ll never want to be anywhere else.” This begins Aaron’s journey to recovery. Aaron has to overcome his physical and mental trauma. The Navy doesn’t believe his story and believes he is at fault for the explosion that killed 2 members of his team. Aaron has to learn that help is not the same as charity, and accepting help is what he needs to heal. While recovering Aaron also needs to figure out what he wants to do with the next chapter of his life. If you’re familiar with the Heroes for Hire series, there’s an appearance from Levi who is Aaron’s half-brother. Levi helps to find proof his brother has been telling the truth. Aaron had known Dani since he was a kid, but didn’t think she even noticed him. Now they get to know each other and rekindle the chemistry from years ago. At the end of the book it’s Aaron telling the new arrival “Welcome. Right now you hate it. You want to be anywhere else but here. However, in a couple weeks, you’ll never want to be anywhere else.”
