Hathaway House: Aaron (Book 1)Welcome to Hathaway House, a heartwarming military romance series from USA TODAY best-selling author Dale Mayer. Here you’ll meet a whole new group of friends, along with a few favorite characters from Heroes for Hire. Instead of action, you’ll find emotion. Instead of suspense, you’ll find healing. Instead of romance, … oh, wait. … There is romance—of course!Welcome … course!
Welcome to Hathaway House. Rehab Center. Safe Haven. Second chance at life and love.
Former Navy SEAL Aaron Hammond has no idea how he wound up at Hathaway House, Texas. Nor does he particularly care. All he can see is his anger. Anger at the betrayal that destroyed his physical body and at the loss of the future he wanted but that he’ll never have now. He’s a cripple, less than half a man, and all he can look forward to is a half life, alone with himself and his pain.
Dani Hathaway runs Hathaway House with her father, an ex-military man nicknamed the Major, and she knew Aaron and his brother SEAL Levi in another life. Levi was a good friend to her through her difficult teen years, but it was Aaron who caught her eye more than a decade ago. When she heard what happened to him, she moved heaven and earth to get him to Hathaway House, where she could help him regain his health and return him to the man he used to be.
Old feelings resurface as Dani continues to push Aaron to acknowledge that his life is not over, and that, if he chooses, he can find both love and a future at Hathaway House.

This is Aaron and Dani’s story. Aaron was betrayed by a friend and his like and others have never been the same. He and dani knew each other as kids, and his half brother, yes Levi, had always been at odds. Dani runs the rehab center Aaron is sent to. They think the other doesn’t remember them. It’s a hard road for Aaron. Levi and a couple of others from Hero for Hire appear in the book. This was an excellent story about what wounded vets go thru everyday.
Can you say boring? I can after wasting my time with this book. No tension. Lame characters. An overall predictable story with NO development. Can I have those hours back, please?
Great emotional story of healing love!
This is the first book that I have read from this author, and I must say I was very impressed. It’s a great story which allows you to be a part of the journey of injured vets recovering and re-entering civilian life. I am very excited to read more books in the series
Dale Mayer has captured the compassion needed for hurt veterans. It pulls at your heart to think what they must go through. Going through hell to get back to some type of normalcy and finding love again is amazing.
Nice light tead
I have to be honest I picked this book because of the animals. It was a good surprise.I enjoyed the story and it was well written. I could connect with the characters and feel for them. I went to school with a returning gulf war veterin now a veterinarian. Then just met a very nice person. Who makes prosthetics for animals that are comfortable because he knows how they feel. He was a veterin also. So read this book It will help you understand and learn yes horses don’t belong in houses no matter what you see on Facebook.
A very interesting series dealing with wounded Veterans as they work through healing from severe injuries. I really liked how they used animals as part of the soldiers rehabilitation. This is a great story with wonderful characters. Looking forward to reading next book.
This is a powerful story that focussed on the physical, mental and spiritual healing that is needed after a serious military injury.
The back story of the betrayal and old attraction was a nice touch that added lots of beautiful detail to the storyline.
This was well written and suitably dramatic as well as suitably romantic.
A lovely story with a sweet happy ever after at the end which will make you smile
An outstanding book!
I liked the way that the book tied in characters from previous books that I had read by this author. I also liked the way that the author used an injured dog to help Aaron to make peace with his terrible injury.
Charming book. No sex so appropriate for those that are not into steamy. Good portrayal of returning veterans.
Excellent book on the need for our military’s rehab and the people who help them. Enjoyed the romance, too.
I really enjoyed this book. Everything about it was good. First the setting – a very special for very special patients and animals. Next great characters – strong, courageous, easy to identify with.
I was also happy that despite it being basically a romance, it did not get graphic. I am a minimalist – allow my imagination a chance.
Highly recommend.
This book is the start to another great series by this author.
Wow! This was an awesome book — the entire plot was wonderful! Believable characters, real emotions, awesome characters. It was humorous, touching, and a real page-turner!
A touching story. Veterans returning from war have a lot of baggage to overcome. This story takes you through one such example keeping you hoping for the happy ending.
Love this author!
Made me think about the consequences of war on the soldiers.
I enjoyed the book. I love reading romantic stories with realaliatic touches to it. The book dealt with real life issues and sensitive topics while weaving in romance. Two people healing and overcoming circumstances that don’t sometimes end well. Drew attention to the plight of military vets and women In abusive relationships. I hope the book gives soneone the idea to open such a facility if one doesn’t already exist.
