From Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author M. Robinson, a coming of age, enemies to lovers, contemporary romance filled with angst and all the feels. I couldn’t remember a time before her… Harley Jameson. Before she owned me.Hated Me.Needed me.Before I hated her…
Bully. Fight. Hate. It’s what we did.
Mind. Body. Soul. It’s how we loved.
I thought nothing would ever change that, until everything did.
She was mine.
Always had been.
Always would be.
Nothing altered that.
Not how much I hated her.
Not how much she hated me.
Especially, not how much I hated…
That I LOVED her.

Five freaking amazing stars or Hailey and Jackson !!!
This is the first book that I’ve read by M. Robinson and I’m absolutely surprised with her writing style.
I didn’t have any expectations with this book because M. Robinson is one of the popular authors in the world, so I was just curious and I wanted to give a chance to with reading her book.
I didn’t regret that decision.
And once again I didn’t read the blurb before reading the book and I was total without knowledge of what this book is about and less what will happen in the book.
“Hated You Then” is one of the emotional books that I’ve read this year and it broke my heart in a thousand small pieces.
And one part of the book almost made me cry.
Yes, it was a really super emotional book.
But, between my “almost” crying there was also a funny part because that’s what you get when you put together two kids who hate and love each other at the same time.
A lot of pranks which makes you laugh so much.
I really fell in love with two main characters, Hailey and Jackson. They are so adorable in the way they were trying to make each other life a living hell, but deep down even they didn’t know that (especially Jackson), they truly cared about one to another.
I can’t wait for “Love You Know” to find out what will be happening with them later and more important what about the pregnancy from the beginning of the book ?!
If you’re looking for a book with enemies to lovers trope and YA genre, you should give a chance to this book because maybe it will surprise you, as it did me!
I will for sure read the other books that M. Robinson had written because of this one, which took my heart !
Highly recommended!!!
Okay, first of all, I have to mention this … Creed Jameson’s ‘baby girl’ has her own story! I definitely was over the moon to have a chance to read ‘Hated You Then’ and find out how M. Robinson was going to write Harley Jameson’s story. As a big fan of the Road to Nowhere books (and totally in love with Creed Jameson) I knew Harley’s story was going to have all of the angst, heartbreak, and tears that made her parent’s story so great. But once I dove into this story, I realized this story was so much more than I could have ever imagined.
I loved everything about Harley Jameson. She is a tough little girl, but with a tough MC dad like Creed in your life what do you expect. She has been raised in the MC world and knows how to fight her own battles, especially with her childhood enemy, Jackson Pierce. These two have a hate for each other that seems to never end. Jackson is always trying to provoke her, daring her to higher and higher challenges that always leads them both into big trouble with their families. But there are moments where you can see that these two are more frenemies than enemies.
Now Jackson is a very confusing character. There were times when I thought he was just a plain bully, picking on a little girl in the hopes of seeing her cry. But it didn’t take long before I just wanted to cry for him and everything he has went through. His family life is in freefall and it is messing with his thoughts. I think in some ways, his battles with Harley help him escape the realities of his life.
This story spans about ten years and is filled with the ups and downs of these two frenemies. The cliffhanger for Hated You Then will make you scream in frustration! Gawd, all of the angst and suspense just to get to that ending. I need more of this story and I need it soon.
Added extra: To understand Harley and Jackson’s parents backstories, I suggest reading the Road to Nowhere books and/or The Pierced Hearts Duet. It is not necessarily needed to read Hated You Then, but it definitely adds dimensions to Harley and Jackson’s story and will help you understand the actions of a few of the secondary characters.
10 Emotional stars!!!! OMG!!!! An emotional beginning to this duet! Ashley @ Carolina Chic’s Read
This is a cliffy and the prologue makes you want the second book yesterday! There is a fine line between love and hate and these two are learning from a young age what that means. Jackson and Harley have despised each other from birth but the pranks they play and the way their family interact help to add to this crazy beginning. I bawled from this book and I cannot wait for the ending!!!!
5 I hate you stars!! I am a mess. This book was more then I was prepared for. And, trust me, with Author M Robinson I am always prepared for some shit.
This is book one of the “Love Hurts Duet”. This is Jackson and Harley’s book. If you have read this authors books you know they all intertwine and I love that shit so hard!!
Ok I want to say first off that I was worried going into this book. I’m not big on like young romance shit. But this was not the usual. This was epic. This was Good Ol Boys style. This was Ends Nowhere style. This was Choosing Us style. This was it ALL!! I cried fucking tears over these two little shits. My heart is so wrapped up in this that I would empty my fucking bank account for M to give me the next book. How does she do this shit, I will never know.
Harley and Jackson have been in each other’s life since day 1. Jackson is so much like many of the men in her books but he is so jaded and hurt that he can’t be his best self. Harley is the mother fuckin princess to Creed. And man is she just like him. I love her sassy butt. But these two absolutely HATE each other. But do they really? I enjoyed this ride so very much.
Every book this author rights hits me in the feels and becomes one of the best books I have ever read. So I always think when she puts out another that there’s no way it’s gonna be that good right?!?! Man I’m wrong. This book was such an easy read. I said I’m gonna take my time and then I look at the bottom and I am at 99%. I was so mad it was over. These characters have all been intertwined for so many books I lost count and yet they are just as amazing as they were in their books when they make cameos in other books.
Jackson showed me a whole other side to Aiden and Bailey. I got more info. My heart broke more. This is definitely a MUST read and on my all time favorites list!! But if I may make a suggestion…. if you have the time start from the beginning read them ALL. Or at least read Jackson’s parents story “The Pierced Hearts Duet” because you will feel so much more.
This book is full of laughs, tension, heart breaks, hope, young love, friendship and second chances. This is a book you want on your shelf!
**I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book.**
“…but in that moment, in that second, I wanted to steal her happiness away. I wanted it to be mine. It was just another thing that belonged to me. All of her. Mine.”
What…did…I…just…read?????? If you inhaled all the books like I have, it’s crazy how I’m reading about the daughter of Creed and Mia, and the son of Aiden and Bailey right now!! Not only that, we have this off the charts enemies to “I don’t know what’s going to happen” romance-kinda, war-kinda, not sure where we’re headed, because the Author is going to make us work for it!! I laughed, I cried, I savored the time I spent with old friends, and their kids that are growing up. I threw my kindle at the end, and will gladly sit and salivate for the conclusion. My dear heart may not take it, but boy did this give it a workout!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!

Jackson and Harley’s story is here! I’ve been waiting for this since the Pierced Heart Duet!
Mostly in this book we get to know the characters very well since they were 6 years old. They hated each other since early but then you can see the change and their feeling evolving.
This is the part that I really didn’t enjoyed so much due to their ages. I don’t think 10 and 11 years old children think and do the things they did, but as this is fiction lets move on!
Truth is, at some time, you will see some parts of the Pierced Heart Duet that will make you understand situations in the past, but getting to the end and not seeing anything related with the prologue in first place gutted me!
I guess we need to wait for Love You Now to get the answers we need and their love story!
I always knew I was going to love this book but even I’m surprised how hard I fell for Jackson and Harley’s story. I loved getting the full back story of them as youngsters right up until they’re teens, it really helped me understand their love/hate relationship. The banter, the pranks, everything about these two was perfect.
Jackson comes across as a little jerk at times but that boy is so bloody loveable it’s unreal. I was torn between wanting to slap him and wanting to hug him. This kid will make your heart ache. The relationship he has with Harley is a constant battle to get one up on the other, Harley is just as stubborn as Jackson and with a daddy like Creed it’s really no surprise that she won’t give in, especially to a boy. Harley is adorable (she’d hate me to use that to describe her but she is). She’s sassy and got a potty mouth on her, she’s sweet and loyal, head strong and strong willed. She’s a fantastic character.
I’m not going into the story, I truly believe this authors books should always be read knowing just the basics. M Robinson’s first enemies to more romance gives you the angst and tension you expect from her work but also a new fresh feel that’s ridiculously hard to put down (I didn’t put it down once, I couldn’t even if I’d tried). Be warned it is part one of a duet so there is a cliffhanger that will leave you counting down the days until you can get your hands on Love You Now but it’s so worth it. Read this book, read it now!
Darling, Hated You Then is the first book I’ve read by M.Robinson and what kind of an introduction it was.
Hated You Then captured my attention from the very start and that was mostly because of the characters M.Robinson created.
They were utterly unique and extremely in-depth. And when they end up being enemies to lovers I adore them even more.
M.Robinson gave me the first taste of the two lovers and I can’t wait to see where their journey ends.
Hated You Then is a road filled with hate and hidden love.
I’m not going to spoil anything, but I just want to tell you the first chapter grabbed my attention right away and couldn’t wait to learn the details. But first, we had to learn the depth of the characters’ hatred for each other. And that started when they were only children.
During the story, the characters evolve from child to teenager. We get a sense of how deep their hatred runs and how love took a spot in their lives as well. It’s no secret that I’m a big sucker for enemies to lovers so once again I enjoyed that aspect of the book. They make my heart race quicker when love starts to enter their thoughts instead of hate.
I think the best aspect of this book is the characters. They were absolutely entertaining and so true to themselves. And when you show their life from child to teenager it makes them extremely in-depth and well developed as well as realistic. I adored them that’s for sure.
Harley Jameson was the one that stole the spotlight for me. She made me laugh out loud once in a while because of her bubbly personality. She spoke like a true biker even when she was only six. She didn’t back down from any dare and absolutely believed that she was a fashionista. But the most important part here is that Harley absolutely hates Jackson.
Jackson, my poor broken boy. He stole my heart from the beginning with his moody attitude. And he too hated Harley with a passion which made these two extremely interesting. Their bickering and their dares made them match perfectly.
But it wasn’t only hate that matched these two together. Hurt enters every humans’ life and Jackson wasn’t spared from that. Even with the hate these two where always there for each other. It broke my heart what happened to Jackson and I assume yours will too. It’s tragic and shapes the storyline into a great one.
Now because we follow the journey of them from childhood to young adult the level of ‘romance’ is low compared to other romance books. And that’s why I feel like I couldn’t give it five stars. I loved the beginning of the book, but during the middle part, I found it a bit dull. It did get better towards the end. I read romance because of the romance parts and I missed that sometimes.
But I absolutely can’t wait until the next book to see how their relationship blossoms even more. I’m sure we’ll get more of the romance because they will be adults by then. And that ending left me wanting more.
I love how M.Robinson writes. It’s spot on and entertaining for sure. She knows how to shape her characters as well as her storyline. I was completely sucked into it. I felt with the characters, breathed with them and loved them from beginning to end. Only good authors are able to make us feel the emotions the characters go through. And I did experience it with this one.
If you are looking for a fresh, new duet don’t look any further. Hated You Then by M.Robison is filled with push and pulls from the main characters. Enemies that slowly understand that it might be more than hate even at a young age. Enjoy great writing as well as an amazing storyline and wonderful characters!
This is my first book by this author and it definitely took me for a ride and one that will not be my last. The intense relationship between Jackson Pierce and Harley Jameson is filled with many bully fighting moments, banter, pranks that will have you speechless, and intense angst over the years. When they are together they have a one of a kind chemistry filled with such hate and deep down some love.
They have a unique family dynamic where their families are really close to one another and since the beginning they never got along. Nonetheless, something happened along the way where their feelings of caring would come out but still shown in ways that was still filled with hatred and vulnerability (when in private). The one person they cannot stand is the one person that knows them well. Seeing the growth between Jackson and Harley you can see that there are more to their contact and that even some of the people around them may see something; however, admitting it meant giving in.
A heartbreaking event is taking place in Jackson’s family and it is affecting him emotionally emitting all the feels. It explains some of his new behavioral actions and when the truth is revealed to Harley she sees a side of him that has her wanting to be there for him anyway she can. Just when you think that their is finally some kind of progress in their relationship leading to possibly something more we are left with a jaw dropping cliffy that will have you itching for answers stat. Looking forward to reading more in the series and see how his love hate relationship will turn out.
The Queen of Angst has done it again!!!! She got my tears and I know she won’t apologize for it. Figures!!! This book was emotional AF.
Oh Harley, Creed and Mia’s pride and joy!!! Gosh I adored her and couldn’t wait for her story. With her feisty attitude, her smart mouth and take no bs from such a young age she was everything I thought she’d be. Jackson is in a permanent time out until book two. He needs to think about what he’s done, even though I want to send him some virtual hugs because he needs it. It was quite entertaining to read about their history from such a young age, typical kids who hate on each other because they secretly like each other. I laughed and I side eyed the both of them when they thought they were too grown. In all Mrs. Robinson gave me all those feels I love so much. She continues to show us why she is the Queen of Angst because it seems to me her goal in life is to bring on the ugly cries and heart wrenching moments that stirs her readers insides. Honey Mission Accomplished!!! Seeing Aiden’s POV now Jackson’s POV in that life changing event that affected them both forever was so devastating. Talk about EMOTIONAL 2.0!!! I really loved this book and I can’t wait till book two gets on my kindle.
This is my first M. Robinson ARC and to say I was blown-away was an understatement. I devoured the book overnight.
I’ve known there was going to be another book… a continuation, but I was in denial.
This book isn’t a light read but it isn’t that angsty to the point of driving you nuts and wanting to pull your hair out. It’s just the right amount.
I enjoyed the book. It was gripping from the first page to the last. I thought I was going to get tired of what seems like endless bickering but no… I was hooked… As I was reading, I keep thinking to myself, “and these are only kids right?” I don’t think I’ve ever openly cussed until I was in my mid 20’s… lol
I can’t believe the chapter ended the way it did and I had to wait ’til November 12 to know what happens next… It’s the absolute worst feeling to be left hanging like this especially when it was just getting really good…
I can’t wait for you guys to read about Jackson and Harley, and I’m excited for book two.

4.25 stars—HATED YOU THEN is the first instalment in M. Robinson’s adult, contemporary, coming of age LOVE HURTS DUET focusing on Harley Jameson and Jackson Pierce-the next generation in the author’s Good Ol’ Boys series, and a prequel of sorts, that runs parallel to the Pierced Hearts Duet. You do not have to have read the previous series/duets but for some HATED YOU THEN reveals some missing information.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Harley and Jackson) covering approximately nine years in the life HATED YOU THEN is a retrospective of events in the life of Harley Jameson and Jackson Pierce. From the age of six to fifteen , Harley Jameson had a love hate-relationship with Jackson Pierce, the young boy who lived to torment and tease our story line heroine but Jackson’s life was slowly being destroyed as events at home were spiraling out of control. What ensues is the back and forth, acrimonious and tempestuous relationship between Jackson and Harley, as our duo struggle with family, friendships, school and growing up.
From the outset, the relationship between Jackson and Harley is caustic and petulant. Immature and emotional outbursts are rife with nine years of continuous verbal and physical assaults. Harley gives as good as she gets, whenever Jackson spews vitriol and cutting insults. Their parents’ best friend relationship constantly places Jackson and Harley into one another’s orbits that exacerbates their already contemptuous relationship.
Told from the perspective of young children and teens, the story line manifests in an adult voice. The language, text and comprehension is that of a mature man and woman including preteen boys obsessed with the sexuality of the female form. Over sexualization of children and pre-adolescents may be disturbing for some readers.
HATED YOU THEN is an emotional and heartbreaking story of family, friendship, loss and grief. M. Robinson pulls the reader into an angst filled tale of mutual attraction and antagonism; hostility and love between two people whose lives will be changed over night.
Hated You Then
Every page had me excited for the next! M.
Robinson sure knows how to captivate her readers thru her characters, who are so relatable. Jackson and Harley would be no different. I absolutely was in hysterics with Jackson antics and the banter between he and Harley. The hate is real with these two, or about as real as it can get between a pair a tweens who practically spend all of their lives around one another. But when tragedy and maturity hit these two like a ton of bricks, it’s quite evident that there’s more to their dynamic than practical joking and one upping each other.
Just like any Good Ol’ Boys spin-off, we got to catch a tiny glimpse of the other characters thru their cameos. Creed is CREED to MAX in this duet, because Harley is his “baby girl”. It’s so awesome to see him in “poppa mode”.
Hated You Then, took me through all kinds of emotions, from laughter to tears, and sometimes a little frustrated with these two (Jackson and Harley). All the while at the edge of my seat, and still dangling off a cliff ready for the conclusion to this duet.
I need more, please!
Words cannot express correctly just how great this book really is. It’s like a warm blanket on a cold day that is itchy. You really want the warmth but the discomfort puts you on edge. The love/hate relationship that is heavy on the hate between Jackson and Harley is simply perfection. Not only does the reader get conversations that make them laugh out loud, but others that will make you cry and then you can also add in those that make you want to pull the characters from your kindle and slap them upside the head. Not only do you get a beautifully written story but you also get the feeling of coming home after a long time away and get a glimpse of our favorite characters from the Good Ol’ Boys series. I felt like I was a t a family reunion. M. Robinson your story telling talent is in a class all on it’s own and I cannot wait for your next masterpiece to be released.
Queen of Angst strikes again!! Prepare for another book hangover!!
So what to say about this book? 1) This one had a true Good Ol’ Boys feel, for sure! 2) Although you don’t have to – you will get more out of this book if you’ve read the ones from Good Ol’ Boys on – I’ve only read some of those and at times – I was a little lost trying to remember how everyone fit in together. 3) Jackson and Harley will make you laugh at their goofy one-upmanship hate fest – my goodness – those two were outrageous. 4) This book will break your heart as it does the characters’. 5) You will want to throttle someone by the end of the book – I am still reeling from how things shook down days later. 6) You will not be able to wait for Book 2 – that one CANNOT happen soon enough.
The opposite of love isn’t hate, so you know these two are destined to be together. But whether or not they figure that out – remains to be seen.
Man – this was a tough one to wrap my head around and as is the trademark of an M. Robinson book – my head is still reeling around the chain of events. It reminds me so much of a certain couple of hers – that tore me apart and was my first read of hers.
If you want a book that will give you the feels and a book hangover – look no further.
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
Top Fave of the Year!!!
Dear Monica “Queen of Angst” Robinson,
This book was everything I hoped it would be and then some. I love Harley and her “tough as nails” personality. She really holds her own against Jackson and their hatred for each other starts so young. Of course they have explosive chemistry in more ways than one. I cannot even imagine where you came up with all of the pranks the two of them pull.
There were so many funny parts throughout this book and several times you made me tear up. I couldn’t put it down and turned the pages so fast I felt like I should be at 10% when I was at 100%. The letters between Harley and Jackson are my favorite part of the book which is why I am writing this to you. Jackson better get his crap together for the next book. Creed will not tolerate anyone being awful to Harley (or boys being too nice to her either). I love that we get to see previous characters and their kids throughout the book. This book rocks!!!
Serious book hangover.
All my love,
Amber
P.S. I seriously need book 2 asap. Waiting till November is just not feasible. If you want to send me a copy I won’t tell anyone.
P.P.S. I hope Jackson’s balls survive the amount of kicks Harley has given because your characters always need babies.
I am SOBBING! Not once not twice but for the third time this book had destroyed me. This book is an absolute masterpiece. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything that has made me cry so much. It’s a heart wrenching and beautiful beginning to a love that is epic. I’ve loved everything she has written but this just takes the cake. I’m soooooo mad hat I have to wait for part two but I have no doubts that it will be every bit as good as part one. This was a five star read hands down. I hate giving spoilers in my review so I kept it simple but if you are even on the fence about this book one click it! – By Tiffany
I was on pins and needles the entire time reading this book. M. Robinson has gutted me with this book and in dire need of the next book.
Harley and Jackson grew up together and have always hated each other. They have a strong hate relationship with some compassionate moments as well.
I’m not going to say much about this book because I don’t want it spoil it for anyone. I will say you need this book!! It’s a must read and I can’t wait for Love You Now.
5 Stars
M Robinson brings enemies to lovers to a whole new level with Jackson and Harley. Told in dual POV, we start their story when they are ages six and seven and evolve from fully hating each other to a teenage strong love/hate relationship that has all the feels in between. I have to say that seeing Creed as a father is pretty hilarious. I mean, we all knew he was going to be so over the top protective of his baby girl. Harley though, is as feisty as they come. Constantly getting into trouble from her mom (and praise from her daddy lol) for not only her potty mouth, but she’s always sticking up for herself and kneeing Jackson where it counts lol. As usual, M leaves us on a cliffy, but I can’t wait to read what’s next. Bring on Love You Now!

No words can really describe how amazing this books is. M.Robinson as done it again with Harley and Jackson. The emotions, the angsts, the laughs..this book as it all and then some. I loved seeing how Harley and Jackson first started off as friends/enemies and as they grew up things started to change. Can’t wait for book two bc that cliffy! It’s still sticking me with for her.
Amazing job M, you definitely have another hit on your hands with this duet
