From Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author M. Robinson, a coming of age, enemies to lovers, contemporary romance filled with angst and all the feels. I couldn’t remember a time before her… Harley Jameson. Before she owned me.Hated Me.Needed me.Before I hated her…
Bully. Fight. Hate. It’s what we did.
Mind. Body. Soul. It’s how we loved.
I thought nothing would ever change that, until everything did.
She was mine.
Always had been.
Always would be.
Nothing altered that.
Not how much I hated her.
Not how much she hated me.
Especially, not how much I hated…
That I LOVED her.

REVIEW: 4.5 STARS
“The emotions were running so high, you could choke on them, making it hard to fuckin’ breathe.”
I’m running on adrenaline right now! What an ending!! Of course, we all know I don’t willingly go into duets/trilogies without an end date for my suffering, so I am for SURE hoping Ms Robinson keeps to her release date of November 12th for the final book in this duet because that was an excellent introduction to Jackson and Harley, but also a doozy of a cliffhanger. WOW.
I want to comment on the story itself first – I loved the innocence that these kids possessed. It was my favorite part about this book – no lie, because watching them grow from so young with such strong thought processes was a blast. But I will say, the sexuality felt too hyper-focused at that young age at some times during the story. I’m not saying kids that age don’t think and do things that young, but it was a little intense in some spots. Definitely reserved for an older age with the emotions attached – however, having said that, I could also understand the innocence of first looks and first touches and not understanding that zing or that feeling deep in their tummy. That was probably my favorite part. Robinson really set the stage for the love-hate relationship to grow and develop over the years and that was almost comical because of how tenacious the kids were, but more specifically: Harley is most definitely Creed and Mia’s daughter. That part was very evident and I feel like Robinson really merged their two personalities well in Harley.
“The irrational thoughts were taking me hostage, and I was right there along for the ride.”
These two kids, oh.my.gosh. From a very young age, they fought with pure piss and vinegar. Seriously cracked me up how sharp-tongued and witty Harley was, and how easy going and smooth Jackson was in his comebacks. He was arrogant and she was “proper”. It really gave me a chuckle a few times, and that was so fun to watch grow.
It’s been a quick minute since I’ve read M Robinson’s books and I missed the last duet and Noah’s story – so while I may have felt a little lost in the familial attachments/backstories, it wasn’t hard to follow along at all. Most of Robinson’s books (lately) have been spin-offs or continuations, and I knew this going in so I am not upset about the connection, because the Good Ol Boys is my favorite series of hers so far. I did struggle with the similarities from her GOB storyline and also her Road to Nowhere series, but not so much that it detracted from the storyline, as you can see from my rating because I really, really enjoyed this one. This can be read as a standalone duet and I can and will happily recommend this book. I liked the emotional ups and downs I felt while reading this story and can’t wait for the conclusion.
I cannot help but think of the pain Harley is in right now….but I cannot imagine the fear Jackson is feeling either. Teenage angst – I love it.
“She went from the girl I hated the most, to the one I needed more than anything in this world.”

Harley Jameson is my soul sister!!
Hated you Then by M. Robinson is Book 1 in the Love Hurts duet, and yet again she nails it! Loved every word!!
Right from the start she had me laughing, omg the first few chapters I honestly couldn’t stop laughing and then BAM! She had my tearing up in the only way M. Robinson can.
Jackson, who we met in the Pierced Hearts duet, has been through so much. And I can understand the need for him to shut everyone out, although I did want to throttle him at times.
Harley Jameson is the perfect blend of her parents Creed and Mia. Total badass, sassy and independent. Love her!
I bow down to my queen of angst! Love all the words M. Robinson writes. She has made me a sucker for a good cliffhanger!
Cannot wait for book 2!
Easiest 5 stars I have given in a long time!
SPOILER-FREE REVIEW
M killed it with Hated You Then! No words to describe how much I FLOVED this book. From beginning to end it had me sucked in. I’ve never read an enemies-to-lovers book where the main characters hated each other since they were kids.
She was the perfect enemy, up for anything. The challenge of our dares, pranks, the ongoing war between us was as addicting to her as it was for me.
Jackson and Harley’s dynamic was EVERYTHING! This book had me cracking up, enjoying every minute of it. I loved seeing the whole gang again. Creed as a father had me swooning so hard. The introduction and hints of who will be getting books in the future
If you’re a fan of The Good Ol’ Boys series (think Forbid Me) then you’ll enjoy this one. It has a rom-com vibe to it, but it wouldn’t be a M.Robinson book if there weren’t some emotional moments. That said, I am dying with that cliffy and I.NEED.TO.KNOW.WHAT.HAPPENS.NEXT! Is it November yet?!
The classic love hate relationship between Jackson and Harley. So much feels while reading their letters to each other and you know that one day it will change. Also getting Jackson’s POV of his family’s struggle with Bailey had me loving The Pierced Hearts duet even more.
Emotions, emotions, emotions are all over this book. The feelings as you read are just too much. There’s no way you will get over this book!!!
Harley Jameson…
She is definitely Creed Jameson’s child. With her colorful language and her “don’t give a fuck” personality.
Jackson Pierce…
The little asshole that will have your feelings going every which way.
Bring these two together and what do you get?
1. Chemistry off the charts
2. laughs
3. moments of plotting violence
4. moments that can bring the not cold hearted to tears.
M Robinson is called the Queen of Angst by her readers for a reason. And even in her newest “Enemies to Lovers” release, she has to include just the right amount of angst to keep to true to the Robinson style. Robinson will have your emotions running the whole gambit. You will laugh at the antics that Harley and Jackson put each other thru. You can’t help but let Jackson have a little piece of your heart while he’s going thru something no child should, a death of a parent. Then Jackson will be the true asshole you know him to be, and you will want to give him a kick in the balls. Your heart won’t know if you should love him, protect him, or plot where to hide his body. All the while you can’t help but fall in love with Harley. She doesn’t take Jackson’s shit laying down. There’s no denying she’s a Jameson to the core. (If you read Road to Nowhere/Ends here and Lost Boy you will understand.)
Hated You Then is the first book in the Love Hurts Duet, so there should be no surprise that there is a cliffhanger. So if this is a problem for you, then you may need to wait for the second part to be released. And while your waiting if you haven’t read any of the Good Ol’ Boys series and all the spin offs that followed, now is the time to do so. It’s not required per say, but there are characters in the book that has already had their stories shared with the world. And you don’t want to miss any of the angst filled moments that they provided.
Make sure that you are prepared before starting this book like you need to with all of Robinson’s books.
1. stock up on the Kleenex (if your a crier, this one will shatter your heart in moments)
2. stock up on the wine. you will need something to help keep your nerves in check.
3. bubble wrap your device (the urge to throw it across the room is strong with this one)
and…
4. try to watch your language if there’s small children around. Because you may find yourself dropping the word “Fuck” out loud a lot due to being angry with Robinson, for making your head spin and heart race.
If there was a rating higher then 5 stars, this one would get all the mother fucking stars. I did not want to put this book down. And man was I one happy reader when I got my favorite guys (Dylan “Fucking” McGraw, Creed & Noah Jameson and Aiden Pierce) in another book. Now the wait begins for the second half of Harley and Jackson’s story.
Are you ready to head back to Oak Island? Robinson has done it again with her first enemies to lovers duet. In this first installment we are introduced to Jackson and Harley as kids and we quickly learn how much they hate each other. Harley is a sassy spitfire and Jackson is a cocky jerk and you can’t help but love them both! The things that these two do to each other will leave you laughing hysterically and crying. There is definitely all the feels with this one too! I cannot wait to see what happens with these two in Loving You Now when it comes out in November! One of my favorite reads of 2019!
I know M. Robinson is the Queen of Angst and definitely HYT is full of Angst!!! Buttt….I believe she should also be called the Queen of Making you Cry!!! OMG I had those big ole crocodile tears and snot running down my face. lol I can not believe how an author loves to torture her readers like this….lmao Anddd she is not even sorry about it…her first question is ALWAYS…..But did you Cry????
Yesss gosh dang it!!!! I freaking CRIED!!!!
But you know what…that makes the book that much more memorable, it makes me fall more and more in love with her writing cuz lord have mercy it is sooo real!!!
Hated You Then is pretty up there with my now “fav book” by you Mrs. Robinson!!! lol
The angst, the banter, the chase and all the tears you gave me made this book 5 fan-damn-tastic STARS!!! I can’t wait for Love You Now~the 2nd book in the Love Hurts Duet.
*now to go eat ice cream to mend my heart!!!*
Wow is all I can say after reading this book. This book will have you laughing one minute and crying the next…oh my emotions they are so raw. This book was fan- freakin-tastic.
This is about 2 kid’s Harley daughter of Creed and Mia and Jackson son of Aiden and Bailey they’ve grown up together and absolutely hate each other and have pulled some of the funniest pranks on each other.
I love the way this book was wrote as the kid’s grow up through the year’s you can feel the bond their developing the love their going to have for each other if they don’t kill each other first.
I have never laughed so much in a book as I have in this one and the emotions you feel oh mercy they will have you grabbing the tissues.
This is book 1 in a duet and I for one cannot wait for book 2. This is a must read and one you won’t be able to put down.
Someone wants me to loose my mind. Hated You Then deserves all the stars. It was angsty, full of funny moments, sad moments, GIVE ME BOOK TWO moments. Everything happened so fast. In a blink of an eye I found myself flipping the last page. This is not a typical enemies-to-lovers romance. Harley and Jackaon does hate each other fiercely. But despite this there was more chemistry between these two kids than there ever was between Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater from Titanic. The prologue made me hyperventilating, the last chapter took away all my breath I had left after the hellish journey that Ms Robinson created. I think I’ll go crazy waiting for Love You Now which is coming out November 12th!
FINAL RATING: 5 ‘Monica is the devil in sheep’s clothing’ stars (less)
Hated You Then by M. Robinson brings us the second generation of The Good Ol’ Boys and is the story of Harley Jameson and Jackson Pierce. I loved not only seeing this new generation get their story, but also seeing our old friends again. Though this can be read as a standalone, the Good Ol’ Boys series is one of my top favorite by this author.
I adored Harley. She was everything you would imagine from the child of Creed and Mia. She is feisty, smart and determined. Jackson carried so much on his shoulders and it weighed on him. I loved seeing them grow from children, to teens to adults. We follow their journey as we laugh, cry and scream. I loved their back and forth and as we all know, there is a very thin line between love and hate.
As usual from this author, the story is angst-filled and that ending will have you wanting to throw your eReader, but there are also tender moments and moments that will have you laughing. Two people who grew up hating each other, but there is so much more underneath that. I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book!
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Club.
Happy reading!
Oh my heart…it can’t take another hit like this book! Seriously the line between love and hate has never been thinner and this author made it so that I felt every hit that was dished out.
This story gave us the start of Jackson and Harley’s story and I can’t wait for more.
If you read The Pierced Heart duet, then you already know what kind of a-$holeness to expect from Jackson but this book really focuses on the why and man this guy…
Harley is a spitfire, for sure and gives as good as gets when it comes to him. Watching her understanding become clear was a angsty realization for sure!
This book is packed full of all sorts of emotions, but angst and heartbreaking moments were the biggest for me. I definitely recommend grabbing this book so you are ready for their conclusion!
Hated You Then brought together soooo many character from past M. Robinson books, all my favorites. I couldn’t wait to read this book from when I finished The Pieced Hearts Series, wanting answers to the questions that remained open. Although you could read this duet as a standalone, I strongly recommend you read The Pieced Heart Series before, you will enjoy the story so much more knowing the back story.
The book follows the hate relationship between Harley and Jackson as children to teen and approaching adulthood. Be warned, In true M. Robinson fashion there is a massive cliff hanger, and so many other things remain unanswered.
There are a lot of tears in this book, have the tissues ready.
Hurry up Late October, I need to know how Harley and Jackson’s story ends.
OMG! That ending! My heart is breaking. I can’t wait to get the next book! This book had me so captivated. I don’t think I moved until I read it all. Jackson and Harley hate each other. The banter between them had me laughing and smiling. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!
*Magic Beyond The Covers Book Blog*
This has got to be M. Robinson’s best book yet! Our Queen of angst has struck again! I was unable to put this book down, it was so addictive I just lost myself in the love/hate relationship between Harley and Jackson. It is amazing how far this series has gone with the spin off characters which originally started with Lucas and Alex then came Creed and Mia and now Jackson and Harley. Having read how the parents and grandparents came together this was always going to be the roller coaster ride we have come to expect.
I have laughed so hard in the most public of places too! The banter between Harley and Jackson was on point! This is where this author excels in YA angst and enemies to lovers relationships. I also reached for the tissues when we revisited the part of Jackson’s life where Bailey went through her illness. Reading it from a childs POV just broke my heart even more than it did the first time round and this time I was expecting it!
This author puts your heart through a range of emotions all in one book… Loved it and M Robinson will always be a one click author for me. I really need book 2 now!
God…this cliffy!!! This prologue!!!! This book!!!
I was so excited when I found out Monica was gonna write this duet. I wanted to know all about Jackson Pierce and the little spitfire Harley Jameson. Knowing their parents and the story behind them it was a no brainer that it was gonna be a roller coaster! This book didn’t disappoint!
These two have known each other since birth and have made it their life’s mission to despise one another. We get to watch them grow in this book and it was quite frankly hilarious!
Harley honestly made me laugh my ass off! I was crying in the beginning because she was so damn funnyShe was a COMPLETE ball buster! Throughout the entire book she gave as good as she got!
Jackson was funny as well BUT he was also heartbreaking. Reading from his POV, at times, was gut wrenching. I think this book was more about him than it was Harley. It was about him navigating his feelings for everything that life was throwing at him. The anger was palpable! I had such a heart ache for him and shed many tears.
This book is told in alternate POV and states the age that they were with each chapter. While i was reading I felt like they should have been older than what they were because of the vocabulary. They were very mature and talking about very mature content when they were 12&13 years old! That kind of messed with my head and i had to go back and see how old they were because it felt like they were much older. Maybe I’m wrong I don’t know.
Overall this was a great book, it wasn’t “hot” or anything like that. This is the beginning of what is sure to be a major love story and I can’t wait to see where it goes. My heart was ripped out at the end and I can’t wait for the broken heart to be put back together in the conclusion.
I would totally consider this a YA book as we started at a very young age and have grown with them. This was completely character driven and i adored the writing….very well done by our queen of angst authorThe secondary characters were great and I see several books coming with them.
Now to wait for the second book…is it October yet???
Angst
Cheating nah
Sexy Time none

M. Robinson has done it again. This time it’s second generation angst. This book will make you smile, laugh, cry, cuss, and make you want to throw your e-reader across the room. Making sure you don’t have anywhere to go when you read this, you’re going to want to devour it in one sitting. Grab lots of tissues and a bottle or two of wine and enjoy M. Robinson’s newest book!
Let me start by saying I inhaled this story. I started it on a slow night at work and read it in a matter of a few short hours. An amazing 5 star enemies to enemies stories. Their is a fine line between love and hate.
Harley and Jackson have despised each other since they were very young. Constant in each other’s lives they started out with pranks to full blown fights. Well she kicks him in the balls quite regularly.
This is a duet so it’s not meant to be read as a standalone. This is the progression from their childhood to teenage years. I’m amazed that an author with so many stories out there that all related to each other. She’s a true queen of angst that’s for sure. It’s an intriguing and highly entertaining part 1 and I can’t wait for Love You Now coming soon. Told in a dual POV.
You know the book you are reading will be phenomenal when it breaks you within the first few lines, this one did that and kept in going until the last word. One of the reasons M Robinson is an automatic one click for me is the fact that she makes you feel ever single emotion that each and everyone of her characters feel. This book will make you laugh so hard and then bawl your eyes out all within the same page. This book is a must read. One of my top reads for 2019!!!
M, Hated You Then is one of my top ten reads of 2019! This story had my heart in a battle and I was on a roller coaster of emotions because this book was everything and more! This is my new favorite book by this author. I freakin love that Monica went back to contemporary where I fell in love with her books in the first place. Jackson and Harley are a dynamic due that pull out all the stops to show their extreme hatred for one another.
I also appreciated the rom-com moments to break up the pain and sadness. Let me tell you these two made me laugh out loud, want to scream or beat their a! Sometimes all at the same time. It was great to see some of my favorites filter through because my heart belongs to Creed for Life and the Good Ol Boys and their ladies hold a special place in my heart! I can’t get enough of Creed and his relationship with his baby girl. Ya feel me?
You have to read this book for the shirt, the letters, the classroom and the balls alone!
Ms. Robinson you slayed me with this story from beginning to end and I loved every hilarious, sweet, crazy and heartbreaking moment because underneath it all was so much love and devotion!!! I’ve got my “Jackson Blockers” on!
Just wow Monica brings to life another amazing read sure to capture her readers tears and hearts. Well done!!!!
Hated You Then is M’s first enemy to lovers book starring the Good Ol’ Kids. Jackson and Harleys story is awe inspiring, heartbreaking and laugh your ass off amazing. Oh the antics and pranks Harley and Jackson get up to in this read will have you dying with laughter. Never have I read a story from another author who can have her characters show so much love and hate for each other…(Monica has a wickedly talented mind) and still make the storyline awesomely epic! And that ending will leave you speechless and wanting more. October can’t come fast enough because I seriously need Love You Now.
