Our love wasn’t enough. He had demons. I had hopes. Together we were never meant to be. That didn’t stop us, though. Even when it should have. Even when I saw those demons loud and clear. I should have stayed away. Should have never looked back. But love, it’s a fickle thing. And sometimes… You need to embrace the darkness. Or let it destroy you. I was drunk once. Now, I’m sober.
Love Changes You
This was a journey. They fell hard and fast, but then it all fell apart. Love was sweeter the second time around. Gunner won my heart!
Gunner chased her off when he took away her ability to choose what she wanted. He stripped her of her home, her business and her own body. And when she had enough she left.
Everly let Gunner run all over her, but not anymore. She’s not willing to compromise who she is or what she wants anymore. Gunner may have her heart, but sometimes love isn’t enough. Everly needs to find her own way.
I felt the ANGST! I loved watching Everly finally figure out who she was and what she wanted. She became a strong, resilient woman who was not willing to settle. I felt her pain, but respected her strength in choosing to do things different the second time around.
I was never quite sure where the author was going to take the characters. I was happy with the path they took. I enjoyed the evolution of Everly and Gunner. Their love changed them both…for the better. Their chemistry and attraction never faded. They were just meant to be.
Working for what you want, makes it that much sweeter when you finally get it.
So the second half of this duet was so raw and emotional. The whole pain of loving someone that you shouldn’t. The connection you share. But regardless of how much you love each other, you know it will not work. There are a lot of ups and downs in this one. The intense passion that Gunner and Everly share. The intense pain that they both go through. Fighting how much they want each other and so much more. Then you add some crazy twists and turns and your jaw drops. I devoured every word of this book.
Overall, I think the most stunning thing is that no matter what these two put each other through, their love still burns so strong. It is raw and intense. It is twisted and unique. It will grip your heart and make you think. This duet is beyond one of a kind and worth the read.
4.5 stars
This is the second part of the Love Me duet and after finishing Love Drunk I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen in this book. I was conflicted after the first book as to what to think of the characters. This book definitely cleared that up and after going through a love/hate/love relationship with the main characters that changed quite quickly once I’d started Hate Sober. I liked seeing Everlyn realise who she is and what she wants. She’s a stronger person after what she went through and I didn’t expect her to be so resilient.
The Love Me duet is dark and angsty, it’s filled with chemistry and the intense love/hate relationship between Everly and Gunner will keep you constantly guessing what’s going to happen next. Another great read from this author.
Ok I have to admit that I was torn when I finished read Love Drunk, I was on the fence on how this duet would turn out and I was also on the fence of whether or not I was going to ever give Gunner another chance.
Everly has had her life torn to bits with secrets and half truths that she is torn to what is in her heart and her brain, I loved her character immensely but at times I wanted to knock her upside her head….. I am glad to admit that I didn’t give up on her.
Gunner Reid…….. Sigh… I had a rough time with but as always T.L Smith made my fears go away and made me see the light as much as Gunner did!
Queen of the crossover characters, I ABSOLUTELY love when authors do this in their stories, It’s a lovely surprise and sometimes quite a shock but I love it nonetheless.
Impeccably Written Hate Sober takes you on a rollercoaster ride of every single emotion and then some, It grabs ahold of you and tears your heart to shreds… Then of course it woven perfectly back together as things should be.
As Love Drunk left us on a cliffhanger, Hate Sober sees us on the edges of our seats to see how this author can possibly salvage this disaster of a marriage that is Mr and Mrs Gunner and Everly Reid, but this is TL Smith, and this author thrives on chaos and mayhem.
As volatile as their beginning may have been, there’s a tension to this continuing story that makes you turn the page to see just where this embattled pair are going to take their shredded marriage, and it promises to be quite the powder keg.
You’ve got to give it to Gunner in this conclusion to the the Love Me Duet, he’s got tenacity in spades!
The way he patiently pursues Everly to win her back is admirable. As my husband would put it, “It’s a little like eating an elephant, you just have to take it one mouthful at a time!”
However in her defence, Everly has also developed a tenacity of her own, and she seems to revel in making this delicious man suffer.
Though I felt this a little flat and the conclusion inevitable, if you’ve invested in this malevolent relationship from Book #1, you’re are not going to want to miss seeing where this story takes them.
Lovers of dark romance will enjoy taking the time to indulge.
The excitement continues on our tense and unpredictable journey with Gunner and Everly.
After Everly’s big decision to walk away, she is now lost and confused, her feelings for Gunner were strong but she wasn’t feeling complete. And Gunner’s reaction, well you’ll have to read to book, there’s no spoilers here’s.
A brilliant conclusion to this excellent duet. Lots of twist and turns in this instalment. Very well done and a definite page turner.
Hate Sober is the 2nd and final book in the Love Me Duet. This book takes off where Love Drunk ended.
I think that T.L. Smith outdid herself in Love Drunk and I think something was lost in Hate Sober. Oh don’t get me wrong. Their story needs to be told and this book is good. It just didn’t live up to the first book. But, I couldn’t put this book down. So that says something and I needed to see how their story ends.
Both Everly and Gunner were in an arranged marriage. Gunner lets Everly go because that was the right thing to do and Everly isn’t sure she will ever go back to Gunner.
I ended up loving Gunner and he turns out to be very persistent when he thinks it’s time for Everly and he to get back together.
The good news is there is a HEA. And, I give Hate Sober 4 stars.
Love it
I wasn’t sure about this story after reading Love Drunk. But when I finish Hate Sober, I was so happy that I gave Gunner and Everly a chance. I loved it, TL Smith has done it again
Everly and Gunner, no words to explain how much I love this intense love they have for each other. I felt the intensity thru the pages, and so much more. I loved how this book was more about each of them finding themselves, so they could grow as one. Excellent read!
Gunner sure did redeem himself in this one! I was so happy with the way the relationship fell apart and then grew anew between the hero and heroine. I was so proud of Everly for finally putting herself first and making Gunner work for her time and attention! She was so much stronger in this book compared to the first one.
Hate Sober was still twisted and dramatic as you’d expect from this author but had a lot of sweetness too!
Twenty four hours of freedom, then he’s coming for his wife.
Shes confused, and hurt. Upset and devestated but that’s not enough to keep him away.
Secrets become real, and hate starts to blur, what will become of the woman who was drunk on him, the stranger in the night…
Oh my gosh what a freaking fantastic conclusion to this duet!
I loved the introduction of characters from previous books, making them interlink.
His darkness is brutal, his words presise and on point, but for her he will do anything.
She’s desperate to be free of him, and the whirlwind of emotions he created inside of her.
They make for an amazing couple. She has so much spunk and fire, whilst he brings protection and dominance.
Apart they wander lost, together they could take on the world. Amazing!
T.L Smith writes stories that will bring you to the brink before reeling you back in for more emotional turmoil and oh me oh my I love it, I love it, I love it!
Gunner is complicated, a jerk, all alpha male, sexy as sin, he twisted my heart into knots and I don’t care what anyone says. I still loved him. Lol. With that being said in true T.L. form, we have another homerun here. Will Gunner and Everly get their hea? Can love really conquer all? You’ll need to read this book to find out.
4.5 stars!!
This is book two in the “Love Me Duet”. This can not be read as a stand alone.
I loved this book! This book was beautiful and haunting. I had my issues with book one but book two made up for them all!!
Gunner Reid is such a sexy asshole! I didn’t think I could like him anymore then I already did. Everly is still annoying but I seem to be able so understand her better. Alec is seen in a much different light. I love all of these characters, shockingly including Everly’s parents as well.
This love story is hot and bumpy. Yes it took us quite awhile to fix everything Gunner seemed to fuck up. But it was worth every page, every minute.
This book read easy and flowed beautifully. I really enjoyed the dual POV. This book has it all… love, hope, humor, anger, sex, action, betrayal, secrets, death, pain, and so much more!!
**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review**
Again Hate Sober will have you hooked with all the twists and turns, mystery and secrets as Love Drunk did! T.L. Smith will take you on a journey with Gunner & Evely! I’m not going say whether this story has a HEA or not you need to read this must duet to find out!
I couldn’t wait for the second book in this duet and it was everything and more than I thought it would be.
Everly Reid really does push back in this second half of the story as she starts to grow up. The strength she gains, the willpower and determination are all so empowering. The change in her character is amazing and such a pleasure to witness, plus she needed it oh so much.
Now Gunner, he was/is such a complex character and knowing there is so much more to him and itching to find out was making me insane. You certainly do learn and you discover quite a bit, enough said!
There’s a huge amount of emotion in this story, it is intense- fair warning. There are moments of sheer agony, moments of anticipation, of fear, of anger, of hope, of laughter and of love too. Every single one is felt deeply and through the incredible power of the words in this story.
Once again this author has blown our mind with a fabulous duet that has everything in it you could possibly want in a book.
This was an highly anticipated second part of an amazing duet. A 6 star that was read in a matter of a few short hours. Hate Sober cannot be read as a standalone. Love Drunk needs to be read first.
It was intriguing and highly entertaining. I never knew what would happen, twists and turns at every corner. It’s a darkish story, but a great romance.
I enjoyed these amazingly created characters. Gunner had me hating him in Love Drunk, but I adored him in Hate Sober. He redeemed himself.
Duet told in a dual POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend this duet.
3.5 stars
I always know going into a TL Smith book I’m going to have FEELINGS. Most of the time they are not happy ones, and I was left with some really not great ones with the first half of this duet. I also know that she will provide some redemption by the time the ride is over, and this duet was no exception.
I’m still not a huge Gunner fan, but it was good to get the reason for his monstrous nature. Everly finally grew a spine and thank goodness. I’m still torn about whether I liked this story or not, but it was well done and will appeal to many who enjoy a dark, sexy journey with characters who need redeeming.
This is the 2nd past of this thrilling duet, and what a brilliant conclusion this is!! I was not a fan of Gunner in the 1st part, but my word I was blown away in how this complex, controlling, and domineering alpha redeemed himself in this story. Everly shows how she has grown into a strong woman, and she certainly does not make things easy for Gunner. This is a beautifully written story which is dark, intense, twisted, and with secrets and love, which all had me captivated throughout this addictive page turner. I highly recommend for all.
Love shouldn’t be so hard. In the stunning conclusion of this duet we see Everly evolve from a pawn to her own person. Where she was Love Drunk in book 1, she is now Hate Sober because her prince morphs into the villain. It was fascinating to see both Everly and Gunner evolve as they realize how much the two love one another. It was heartwarming to watch them fall in love on their own and to learn from their mistakes, because love can conquer all. I really enjoyed the version of Everly and Gunner at the end of this story.
The conclusion to this duet was perfect. I love Everly & Gunner together and am so glad they got their HEA
