Our love wasn’t enough. He had demons. I had hopes. Together we were never meant to be. That didn’t stop us, though. Even when it should have. Even when I saw those demons loud and clear. I should have stayed away. Should have never looked back. But love, it’s a fickle thing. And sometimes… You need to embrace the darkness. Or let it destroy you. I was drunk once. Now, I’m sober.
T.L. Smith did a great job on this story. Hate Sober was a great story, the plot was strong, it was written well with many emotions. Everly and Gunner are strong characters, they’ve been through a lot, their relationship will take you on a rollercoaster, they had their ups and downs. But these two they were made for each other, they were drawn to one another, their connection and the chemistry was strong. They were great together.
I enjoyed this story, it was great. I’d suggest reading it.
Thank you, T.L. Smith. Great work 🙂
After the way the first part of the duet Love Drunk finished I was nervous and excited for this one to see what would happen next. If you haven’t read Love Drunk then don’t read this one as it will spoil your enjoyment of this clever and brilliant Duet.
I will be honest I did start out hating Gunner. After his actions in the first book I would have been insane to actually like him but in this one he did win me over with the way he changed, he was suddenly putting someone else first, and after all I am a huge fan of a good redemption story and this was a great one.
This instalment had so much going on anger, hate, redemption, kidnapping but above all love and passion. After all there is a fine line between love and hate. The only thing I would like to see more of was the story told from Gunner’s POV more as I would have loved to get more insight into what was going on in his head, what had finally kicked in for him to make this change.
Well done TL Smith, what an amazing duet you have delivered as always <3
Hate Sober, the second in the Love Me Duet series for me can only be best described as the slow burn of the year people. Man my heart, honestly I didn’t think I could take much more.
Gunner, look lets be honest the man is a monster in disguise, but I have to admit Hate Sober changed my perception of him completely. I went from loathing him to loving him in a nanosecond. The sheer heartache you watch and feel Gunner go through, the pain and anguish of losing what he held so dear, it literally broke my heart.
And Everly, good lord that girl. Here I was thinking she couldn’t withstand any more torture than what she’d already been put through, but yet the girl, god bless her had to yet again survive the hands of a monster. And I know what you’re thinking, of course it’s Gunner……But you would be wrong. And why?
Because TL yet again caught me completely off guard and threw me into a whole lot of unfamiliarity and surprise that literally blew my mind. I had to read the same pages again and again just to make sure I was reading it right, because ohh boy I didn’t see it coming.
T.L. Smith’s novels for me are always immaculate, manipulating and compelling, and this duet is no exception. A devastatingly beautiful read and a must for all of you who love things sick and twisted, cold an calculating, and breathtakingly beautiful…..
5 stars
Wow!! What a fantastic conclusion.
Gunner and Everly have gone through some serious predicaments. Their relationship imploded leaving both of them feeling distraught. An old enemy resurfaces and wreaks havoc and Everly is caught in the middle. The events that follow just pulled at my heart strings. My heart ached for Everly. Now, it’s up to Gunner to save her.
I really liked how this story evolved. After the cliffhanger, I really did not like Gunner at all and even in the beginning of this story, I was not too fond of him but by the end of Hate Sober, I grew to love Gunner. He became everything Everly had wanted him to be from the beginning. I still felt that Everly was a bit childish at times but after what she went through, she matured a bit. I’m proud that she didn’t just give in to Gunner this time around the way she did the first time. Their relationship really goes through a trying process and they come out much better as a couple and as individuals. I also love that we get to meet up with old friends like Isadora and Jasper. I loved catching up with those two. Great story and awesome characters.
Hate Sober is the second part to the Love Me Duet by T. L. Smith. What can I say that hasn’t been said already. Hate Sober would have to be one the most stunning and breathtaking stories I have read this year. Or ever!! The feelings bombarded me. The sensations overwhelmed me. Their story completed me. The tension was so addictive, it will take some time to recover. It was electric. It was emotional. It was dramatic. It was EVERYTHING. I never wanted it to end. A ride of the wildest. Getting to know these characters and their stories was unforgettable. 5 stars.
Ahh what a ending to this duet. I heart gunner so much. Very much recommend this duet
Hate Sober is more than everything. It transformed the Love Me duet into a phenomenal one.
I knew after reading Love Drunk that Hate Sober would take me on a ride, spin and flip everything I thought I knew and loved/hated about Gunner and Everly then lay it out in a whole new way. It did just that and so much more.
Gunner Reid is just as cryptic and mysterious as before but maybe his heart is warming. Only this time, Everly is not as easy to push around, now she’s guarding her heart. But when feelings and hearts are involved, things aren’t that simple.
Why is Gunner now deciding to give Everly what she wants? Will Everly trust that Gunner is being truthful with his feelings?
The angst, their chemistry is still there and as strong as before, the pain that they both went through trying to figure out what’s right for them. I loved Hate Sober.
T.L. Smith is a master with the words she writes. I always know when I pick up a T.L. book, I’m going to love it. Loved the cameo from Jasper and Isadora too – makes me want to do a re read.
5 LOVE/HATE STARS!! This series is phenomenal!! Gunner….Oh how I love this man. He is dark, sexy, jerky and loving, he keep us readers glued to his every word. Everly is beautiful, strong and so in love with Gunner. You will be on the edge of your seats while reading this page turning duet. T.L. Smith is the Queen of dark and she really grips our hearts with her words and keeps us guessing at every page. You definitely need to read this duet.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (given by author)…
4.5 stars
Well, well, well, what can I say? If Love Drunk terrified my heart then Hate Sober soothed it.
As soon as this book popped up on my kindle I needed to read it, I needed to know what happened to Everly and the fate of Gunner. I was truly pleased with the direction this novel took and I definitely enjoyed this book way more than Love Drunk.
I thought Gunner was the monster in this story and, boy, was I wrong because there were darker monsters lurking in the background.
It must be said I loved Everly so much more in this book because she stood up for herself and tried to find out what she wanted in her life. That being said, Gunner did some changing as well and I did NOT want to like him, but he made it a bit hard to do so.
The whole Alec situation was still odd and I’m still not sure if I like Alec especially with the way he acted like a spoiled child and made Everly seem like a possession instead of a person. Then when he finally accepted the truth, he quickly found Jacinta, who I’am not sure if she liked or hated Everly (I’m not sure even she knows to be honest). Like I said the Alec thing was bit off, but it wasn’t the most odd thing in this book.
I loved that we get to see some of my crazy favorite characters from Playette, Jasper and Isadora. Also this book reminded me of one of favorites books Degrade (by TL Smith), there were some major similarities to Zeke and Bexley.
I have to say, I did like Buck and felt a little bad for him. I would have loved an epilogue, but I did enjoy this book and all it’s craziness 😉
This is a Duet done right!!!
During Love Drunk (Book in the Love Me Duet.) I was intrigued by Gunner and his backstory. I knew that we most certainly needed to get to the bottom of his tortured soul and find out who Gunner really is.
What I got was so so much more. I love how Everly’s character evolved. I’m usually quite astonished as to the direction T.L Smith takes her characters and Hate Sober was no exception. I enjoyed the continuation of Gunner & Everly’s story.
Hate Sober captivated me, because I was invested in these two leads from Love Drunk.it just goes to show Love is messy, and downright gut wrenching, but love is also breathtaking and worth the risk if your prepared to fight for it.
One of my favourite reads this year, you definitely need to one click this.
Hate Sober picks up where Love Drunk ends (by end, I mean cliffhanger end!). Again, the author, TL Smith, does not disappoint with the conclusion to the Love Me Duet. Gunner and Everly finally get their HEA, but Gunner definitely had to work for it. I love that Everly is shown to be a strong woman who knows her mind. Pick up both books and you won’t be disapppointed.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Well I must eat my words, exactly as I knew I would. Why I ever doubted that I would love this, is totally beyond me. Now in the first book, I totally hated Gunner with a passion, he was a total arsehole and I felt that Everly was so weak. But this book changed my mind so much.
Everly is one strong, determined and brave woman and I totally get how I was mistaken in my views and I feel that if book one wasn’t as it was then she never would have evolved into the woman she became.
Now with Gunner I hated him with a passion, I hate him more than any other character I’ve read before and still at the start of this book I felt the same but once you see how his life was, the circumstances involving his family. It all makes some sense but as he fought his way through his problems and realises what is important.
I totally loved this book and I couldn’t recommend this duet enough. Just remember you need to give it a chance, that things and opinions will change
This was a book I have been waiting on ever since I finished book one and it loved up to my expectations. Gunner is what I would call politely a complicted man, to be honest he is a jerk but a sexy one. I was so conflicted whilst reading this duet I really didn’t want to like the characters as much as I did however the author made that hard to do. The writing continually pulled me and compelled me to keep reading to see what would happen next. Everly really comes into her own in this one her character growth was immense and I was proud of the decisions she made.
This was another good story from one of my favourite dark authors.
Gaaaahhh! Fantastic conclusion to this duet by TL Smith! Her writing always keeps me on my seat from start to finish and this was no exception. Book one had me questioning so much but now I can sleep. I have answers 🙂 thank you, TL Smith for another wild ride!
This duet is definitely not what I was expecting. I didn’t like the first book that much but only because I needed more answers and to know more about their story and Hate Sober delivered more than I wanted.
The same love that will get over the angst and suspense and twists and turns that will keep you on the edge till the last chapter.
Hate Sober( Love Me Duet 2) but T.L. Smith. This book picks up where Love Drunk left off. Running with Alexis is something Everly can’t continue to do. She loves her husband despite the fact he was her arranged marriage and the fact his rough sex has left her black and blue. She is hurt and confused about the fact Alexis isn’t her uncle and is madly in love with her. This story is her struggle to reconcile the facts in her life and come up with something so she can live her life. Everly definitely goes through many emotional ups and downs trying to come up with the right decision. Her only problem is she still loves her husband but how could he do the things he has done to her. Everly took me through the ringer with how she handled everything and at one point I wanted to ring her neck. However Gunner was Gunner but as time goes on I got to see a side of him that made him even more delicious. 4 stars for me.
I was a excited and anxious about this book. The way the first one ended! But our dark queen delivered a wonderful and perfect ending in this one. You know I described the first book as exactly like T.L Smith described the love between the characters, drunk, and well this one.. You wake up hangover and think about all the things you did when you where drunk (damn did I do that!) Yes that is the feeling. How could I allowed that to happen or I must have been so drunk to believe that!. The decisions you took when you where so high that you didn’t mind the terrible hangover. I loved how our heroine experienced all that but also learning to deal with her true feelings. Our hero …. I just love him on the first book, I know he was hard to love, but I have strange cravings and was thinking , lucky girl LOL. His actions and personality change a little bit and he is the whole package! I was happy to see a wonderful appareance of characters from books I loved too.
Read this duet, you are in for a ride. 5- I’m still drunk on love-stars
What an amazing ending to this duet from T.L. Smith! Hate Sober was the perfecting ending for Gunner and Everly!
Y’all I was worried about liking Hate Sober at the end of Love Drunk but T.L. Smith worked her magic and I absolutely loved it! The characters turned my views around with this book and I love them! Smith completely caught me off guard with this book in the best possible way. These two characters came back with something to prove, and they did.
Hate Sober had everything we expect from a T.L. Smith novel, angst, drama, the heartache, and the need throw my kindle at the same times. Smith takes Hate Sober in a totally different direction as Love Drunk. She made me love these characters, which I didn’t think was possible. I’m sorry I ever doubted you!
All the stars for Hate Sober! Smith delivers an amazing conclusion to the Love Me Duet!
I loved the chemistry between Everly and Gunner. Everly fights back in this book much harder than the first. This book was a rollercoaster of emotion. Please keep tissues next to you while reading this book.
I don’t know why I was so worried * rolls eyes at self.
T.L Smith brought it all together perfectly in the second part of this duet.
A duet that had me confused, am I really meant to hate this character? the curiosity won me over and I just had to see how it all came together in the end and I admit, although I didn’t like Gunner at all in the first part of this duet, I was doubtful that I would even warm to him, the guy won me over, even made me swoon and I ended up loving this duet, * oh ye of little faith in this authors ability to bowl you over.
Twists and turns, danger, kidnapping, it’s all going on in this dark and angsty second book to this duet and I was hooked til the very end.
Told in the first person, I felt I needed more in Gunners pov, certainly more in the first book so I understood him a bit more and I would have liked more to the hea but overall HATE SOBER is an intense and addictive read.
