Our love wasn’t enough. He had demons. I had hopes. Together we were never meant to be. That didn’t stop us, though. Even when it should have. Even when I saw those demons loud and clear. I should have stayed away. Should have never looked back. But love, it’s a fickle thing. And sometimes… You need to embrace the darkness. Or let it destroy you. I was drunk once. Now, I’m sober.
Hate Sober is the second book in the Love Me Duet by T.L. Smith and whilst not as dark as the first one it still leaves you questioning your sanity! We are thrust back into the relationship that is Gunner and Everly, with a side helping of Alec. This time, Everly comes back stronger and is taking no crap when it comes to anyone who is trying to mess with her. There is a lot going on in this book and Gunner seems as dark and deranged as ever with a side of unemotional which isn’t often seen in romance book. Being a dark romance, Gunner is just captivating in the sense that he is so unapologetic for what he has done and what he will do to ascertain Everly. He definitely has a no holds barred approach.
You certainly see a change in Everly in this book. No longer is she naïve, but has come back with a back of steel. She seems to know her place more and won’t put up with rubbish from anyone, not Gunner, his grandmother or Alec. Secrets come to light and changes are happening which are out of Everly’s control…. but she’s going to move forward!
The side storyline regarding Alec is different and it did leave me wanting to give his new GF (whatever she wants to call herself) a bit of a slap. But overall, a really good ending to the suet that is Everly and Gunner.

Well as far as an ending goes this was good. It was definitely a slow build, and not what you expect. It was over all a really good read.
A great conclusion to the duet! So much happens in this book. It’s a bumpy ride but of so good! Darkness’s, growth, twists, turns, understanding, and love!!!
This book restored my faith in T L Smith.L
One of my favourite authors but I struggled with book one in the duet so was worried that I may not like this one either.
I shouldn’t have worried, thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend with the caveat that if you struggle with book 1, p lease, please persevere as it is totally worth it.
Every is weak as a lead in the first book but totally comes into her own in the second.
Gunner – let’s just say he’s hot in both books but when you read you can make up your mind about him!
Hate Sober is the conclusion book to the Love Me Duet.
Gunner Reid OMG I love this man. so dark, jerky but with a big heart. in this book, you discover the new Gunner. You go through the pain and agony of losing something so precious. And he does everything for his true love Everly.
Everly is a Queen. I was sure she would not be able to withstand more torture than she had been through before, but she survives and stands on her own. I love how she knows what she wants. not giving up to get the love she deserves especially from Gunner.
T.L. Smith takes you on a journey of hiding lies and secrets on every page and page to discover a new course.
Impeccably written. I loved this book and couldn’t put it down. You should need to read.
5 stars
What an amazing ending to this duet series. It was perfect in every way that is TL Smith’s way of writing.
A mini series that is definitely a MUST read!
4.5 stars
“He was crafted by gods. But he’s a fallen angel, perhaps even Lucifer himself.”
After I wasn’t so sure what to think about Love Drunk and the fact that this book was mostly about lust, attraction and fast falling, I got quite surprised how TL Smith was able to turn the tide. Everly surprised me most of all. After the first book I didn’t expect she had it in her, to stand up for herself, to fight for herself and to go through hell and back just to stay true to herself. But she did! And how she did it! This girl is strong, this girl was born with fire and ready to fight. She’s a true heroine!
With Gunnar I was a little disappointed. I would have loved to see more of him. Of his dark side and how he is fighting it for his love. I would have love to see deeper into his dark mind and his dark world.
“A love like ours is carved from the depth of hell and made from the purest of angels.”
With Hate Sober TL Smith delivers a perfect conclusion to this duet. It’s dark – even though it could have been darker – and gritty, thrilling and gripping. It’s a book that keeps you up late at night cheering for your heroine.
“I love that she loves me. Even when she shouldn’t.”
Everly and Gunner have had such a difficult journey. I love these two characters and was rooting for them to find a happy-ever-after right from the start. But Gunner is a dark and complex character and Everly is light and open, and in so many ways this makes them incompatible. There are more secrets to be revealed and not everyone is as they seem in this intriguing book.
The author has written an addictive and suspenseful duet, and as with all great stories, I couldn’t wait to find out what happened and then when I reached the end I was heartbroken to have to say goodbye…I received an advanced copy of this book from the author.
Hate Sober Book 2 Love Me Duet
T.L. Smith
Wow!! So amazing! Incredible! What a terrific happily ever after to a terrific book duet! There are every kind of feels!!
Very highly recommend!!
This is the second and final part of the duet of Everly and Gunners story and one I had been waiting on since Love Drunk. It picks up right where book one left off. I really fell in love with them in this one and everything. I just could not put down and needed to know how it was all going to go with them and I am definitely not disappointed with it at all. So great and just really enjoy this authors writing!
What a magnificent conclusion Everly and Gunner’s story. This book started right in the middle of the emotions where book one ended and the emotions and feels did not let up. Gunner is still the strong minded alpha and while you hate him and love him at the same time his changes make you swoon. Their story is such a rocky one and the growth of these two characters is awe inspiring and still packed with some twists and turns as well.
Enjoy this read that should pull on all your feels
What a second half. Wow, this book was slow burn city, and I loved every moment of it. T.L. Smith is a master at toying with a readers emotions, and I don’t think ever more apparent than with this book. What the characters go through is pure torture. At times I wanted to throw my kindle and curse the author’s name. I knew if I stuck with it, it would be worth it. I cannot imagine being in their shoes, and for once I didn’t want to be part of a story. I wanted to read about it from afar. Gripping, enthralling, mesmerizing, are all words to describe this book. So make sure you pick up a copy.
Where to begin, T.L. Smith has once again wrote an epic story. I was very anxious to read this after reading Love Drunk. NOTE*** Read Love Drunk first***
Gunner and Everly are back at it and this time it’s not at all what I expected! Lots of jaw dropping moments! There was loads of hate, anguish, and turmoil. But also lots of sweet moments, followed by passion and love. Such a well written love story that has all the feels!

Hate Sober is the second book in the Love Duet series. This book was another good read. I enjoyed every minute of the book. It was a good story that brought some very interesting characters into the picture. I enjoyed the characters and the story it was very enjoyable to read about.
Hate Sober is book 2 in the Love Me duet. TL Smith continues Gunner and Everly’s journey in this book. Their story continues with TL Smith’s signature writing of edgy and dark romance. I loved the growth and challenges they both took in their story of love. I also loved beloved characters from TL Smith’s previous book release, who make an appearance in Hate Sober. 4 stars for this well written story. I always look forward to TL Smith’s next book.
I LOVED this duet!! Love Drunk left me hanging, desperate for more, unsure of how I felt about Gunner. This book picked up right where the previous one left off, and it didn’t take long at all for me to realize that I really do love Gunner! Some of his actions in this book left me feeling a little confused, but I was pretty sure he had a reason for everything he did. This book was definitely a slow burn, especially compared to the previous one, but that just gave both of them the chance to figure out exactly what they wanted, and to actually learn a little something about each other. All in all, I loved the story, it was definitely 5 stars for me!
Love isn’t always enough… I really wanted to keep hating Gunner the man was a monster, but an absolute gem was hiding beneath the rough, HOT exterior! Everly sobered up pretty quick as Gunner stripped her of everything.. she ran, she rebuilt and she then fell even more in love! The conclusion to this duet will have you drunk on love with Everly and Gunner all over again, so many twists and turns you never know what can or will happen! An exciting conclusion to a great duet, you will hate, despise and then you will fall in love with the monster that is Gunner!
After the way Love Drunk ended I didn’t know how T.L. Smith could possibly fix things. I didn’t know how she was going to manage to give me to ending I craved. But if course she didn’t. The journey to that desired ending between Gunner and Everly was hard fought and at times I wasn’t sure it could be done. But that just made it all the more satisfying. I absolutely loved the way they had to find their way back. They both had things to realize about themselves and each other. But it just felt so much more real in the end.
I loved this book and this whole duet. I would definitely recommend it and I can’t wait to see what T.L. Smith has in store for readers next.
ARC REVIEW
Angsty, Addicting and yet Sobering.
‘Hate Sober’ by TL Smith is a one book number two in the ‘Love Me’ duet and if I have to be completely honest, this is a one of a kind and very refreshing book that takes a different turn to the usual book we read.
If you follow me, then you already know how much I loved the first book in this duet, how much I love sweet Everly and psycho Gunner, and with this second book, those feelings just grew and grew. I got to know the characters better, you get to see part of them you didn’t see before, you get to understand them better and learn with them.
If ‘Love Drunk’ was a book full of action and passion, then I’d say ‘Hate Sober’ is emotional and insightful.
The characters, between these two books, have to learn from their mistakes, change and undergo substantial growth that will take time, but in the end, it will take them where they need to be.
Everly is still strong and beautiful, a businesswoman full of life who will not accept a fate that was chosen for her, a woman who will fight with everything she has to get away from things she knows are bad for her, no matter how much they hurt.
She is not naive anymore and through everything she has been through and will have to go through, she learns how to be resilient, how to put herself and her well being before others and how to be unapologetically her.
Gunner arrogant and stubborn as always, he is persistent and tenacious, powerful and scary both in his life and in his line of work. He is someone not to be crossed or challenged (unless you’re Everly), someone that doesn’t think twice before making you pay and someone who’ll take out his revenge for the ones he loves in full.
Losing Everly didn’t go down well with that grumpy heart of his, and even if at the beginning, all hope seems lost, Gunner will learn from his mistakes, learn how to change and how to make it right.
This couple has been through so much, it’s hard to even see a future for them where they end up together, and there isn’t. For them to have the HEA we all want them to have, they will have to shed their skin, put their pride aside and change into a better version of themselves. They will need to love themselves as much as they love and hate each other, they will have to drastically make some better life choices in order to be able to keep what they love.
And when they do, when they do it will be unforgettable, magical and it will feel new like the very first time they touched.
This book contains strong scenes that could become triggers for some readers, so be mindful.
If you are a fan of a good written, angst-filled romance that will keep you wondering what’s going to happen next throughout your reading, then this is the duet for you.
The angst and passion in this book are otherworldly, the heart-wrenching scenes that will leave you sobbing are unique, the inexplicable love you’ll feel for these characters is addictive and the charming yet thought-provoking story-telling of this book is just something you’ll never forget.
If you got drunk on these characters with the first book, then you’ll become addicted to them with ‘Hate Sober’.
Perfect duet!! I loved the transition of Everly in this book. Book 1 was she was very docile in a way and unsure of herself or her worth, she let Gunner treat her like a doormat and kept coming back for more but now she has developed a major backbone and knows what she deserves and is at no ones mercy, especially Gunners. I loved the hops she made for him. As with everything TL Smith writes this book had me from the beginning!
I voluntarily reviewed a advanced readers copy of this book
