Amazon’s #1 Most Unputdownable Book of the Year. An Amazon Charts bestseller.A Wall Street Journal bestseller.A Washington Post bestseller. From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes an unexpected love story of secondhand hearts and second chances… mysterious blue note sewn into a wedding dress.
Something blue.
I’d gone to sell my own unworn bridal gown at a vintage clothing store. That’s when I found another bride’s “something old.”
Stitched into the lining of a fabulously feathered design was the loveliest message I’d ever read: Thank you for making all of my dreams come true.
The name embossed on the blue stationery: Reed Eastwood, obviously the most romantic man who ever lived. I also discovered he’s the most gorgeous. If only my true-love fantasies had stopped there. Because I’ve since found out something else about Mr. Starry-Eyed.
He’s arrogant, cynical, and demanding. I should know. Thanks to a twist of fate, he’s my new boss. But that’s not going to stop me from discovering the story behind his last love letter. A love letter that did not result in a happily ever after.
But that story is nothing compared to the one unfolding between us. It’s getting hotter, sweeter, and more surprising than anything I could have imagined.
Something new.
But I have no idea how this one is going to end…

Another amazing read by this duo… I absolutely loved Reed and Charlotte. Charlotte’s perspective on life is one we all should strive for. Their banter will make you laugh out loud and swoon. The chemistry between them is a slow burn and oh so steamy. The storyline is very poignant and definitely a must read.
This was a cute story and well written. For others I think this is a four star book, for me closer to three.
While the book has great dialogue, interesting characters and a fun plot, it felt like two different stories to me. The first half of the book is quarky, light hearted, funny, sweet and very, very cute. The second half was emotional, heart renching, cry worthy and depressing (if I’m being homest). Nothing I felt in the first half of the story lasted in the second half.
There were never any “hate notes.” The three notes, in the entire book (I certainly expected more), were more like rude humor based on a past scene. I never felt like Reed disliked Charlotte nor the other way around. I was also very surprised that Reed was such a nice man, I expected anger and bitterness. With the book title and description I think there were a bunch of opportunities missed, as they didn’t match the story.
The story was still good, and enjoyable. It just wasn’t what I thought I was getting. I think others will enjoy this if the reviews are any indication.
Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward deliver another hit with Hate Notes! I love this writing duo. They know how to
Hate Notes was full of sexual tension that will have you grabbing your fan, clever and witty banter, funny moments, sweet moments, heartbreaking moments, and a few surprising twists. It was the perfect combination of everything.
I loved all of the characters! They were very relatable. Reed was so swoony and sexy but also broody. Tragedy struck him and he is not the same man he used to be. Charlotte is quirky, clever, funny, sassy, and delivers some hilarious inner dialogue. Reed’s grandmother, Iris, was adorable in her efforts to help bring Reed and Charlotte together.
I loved the book from start to finish. I ran the gamut of emotions. It was a beautiful and entertaining read. I highly recommend reading it.
Another fantastic story!
I’ll say it again, that when this writing team gets together, they create such wonderful reads.
I absolutely LOVED Charlotte. She cracked me up and was so flawed that it made her more believable.
Reed had his own issues to work through, and I enjoyed reading how he changed over the course of the book.
Yep…another solid contemporary romance from these two that is a must-read!
(I borrowed this eBook from the Amazon Prime library)
This was my first Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward read so glad it was a good one. Charlotte is the forever romantic and after finding the note sewn into the bridal gown just has to know more about the man who wrote it. Reed has been betrayed and is no longer willing to believe in happily ever after. These 2 clash in every way possible but can they find a way to their own happily ever after?
Loved that Charlotte is spunky and a survivor no matter what life throws at her. Reed is so broody and unapproachable but eventually we find there is so much more to his story. This was a fun, easy read. I am looking forward to reading more by these 2 ladies.
I loved Hate Notes!! I laughed, I swooned, I cried and laughed some more. It was just beautiful! A sweet, romantic and emotional story that I couldn’t get enough of. The bonus epilogue was the perfect ending and definitely put tears in my eyes.
I always love co written books by these 2 amazing authors and they did not disappoint.
A beautifully moving read. You will love the journey of Reed and Charlotte to their happily ever after – how much they influence each other and grow together – but there are some big bumps and tears along the way, so be prepared. Loved how the “Fuck-It List” helped drive the plot and the epilogue 26 years later gives the reader complete closure.
4.5 I really enjoyed Hate Notes. I found both Charlotte and Reed to be highly entertaining. The way they meet, how they meet again, how they interact with each other, all of it was a hoot! They’re both great characters who have been hurt in the past. The difference is that Charlotte is upbeat and has a positive outlook whereas Reed tends to look at the negatives, what-ifs, and can be harsh at times. Reed’s still a good guy, he just has a lot of walls built-up. The storyline was good as well with a twist thrown in. Ironically, I just read a book with the same plot twist, and I don’t think I’ve read any other book with that twist. My only complaint about the book is that I wish it would have been slightly faster paced. I was hoping for more time with them as an actual couple.
4 stars for romance, 3 for heat level and 3.5 for interesting characters. Very interesting beginning but story slows down a bit but the ending is quite romantic and worth finishing the story.
I really enjoyed this fun, emotional, and slow-burn romance. Charlotte, in a moment of weakness, does something that changes her whole life. She not only gets caught, but she finds a job, a new friend and strong support in the most unlikely place. Reed is broody, sexy, and perfectly vulnerable at times. He is attracted to the smart, sassy, and sexy, Charlotte but has a hard time working with her while trying to ignore their fiery chemistry. I loved how intuitive Reeds grandmother was, along with her sly match making. Narrators Sebastian York, and Lynn Barrington were fantastic. They did a great job bringing the witty, quirky, hopeless romantic, Charlotte, to life and the transition of the surly, work-obsessed, Reed to a charming, fun, and swoony hero. They were spot on with all the snarky banter, heartfelt emotion, and slow burn chemistry. They kept me totally engaged from start to finish, making this romance even more delightful.
Wonderfully romantic, love these characters.
I loved this book!!!
I liked the orginality of the storyline. It was an unexpected twist to the plot line. It’s very well written and a definite page turner.
What a wonderful audiobook this was! It was sassy, sexy, and emotional. I really enjoyed the two characters and all of their interactions. The two main narrators were wonderful.
I definitely recommend this book and these two authors.
There are no words to express how good this book is, but I’m going to try. This is a story about real and true love. It’s not a fluff piece that will be easily forget. This story is going to stay with me for a long time. It started out with a whimsical beginning of finding a one of a kind dress with a mysterious past. The curiosity to know the people behind the dress, a drunken night and a why the hell not attitude will change the course of 2 people’s lives forever.
Charlotte and Reed are two characters that grip you with the larger then life personalities. Their stories and real and just a little heart wrenching. The story is tension filled with Reed trying to do what he feels is right and fights with himself over what that means.
These are people who have never quite fit with all the parts of themselves, they are both saddled with burdens that are out of their control. Charlotte is a pistol who keeps Reed on his toes throughout the whole story. She is not one to take things lying down and she makes everyone around her so the same.
From heartbreak, to crazy adventures and to gut wrenching situations, this story gives you all the feels. You are going to laugh, cry and decently swoon.
Hate Notes was EVERYTHING!!! I laughed and cried and laugh some more and then I finish the Epilogue and I cried again.
I find that Penelope and Vi have this amazing talent in creating characters that are very relatable and dealing with real life issues that just crush you. What I love about this book is Charlotte’s outlook on life. Despite the shit she is going through and whatever cards she’s handed in life she’s so damn optimistic. She’s honest, witty, caring, empathic, but not in a way where she lets people take advantage of her. She stands her ground. I loved her and she’s definitely one of my top female characters. Reed – my oh my, where can I find me a Reed? I love handwritten notes and I love the color blue and I love a hard ass with a soft interior waiting to spill out. If I found a Reed on a choir, I would go to mass/church every Sunday and whatever other day Mass was being held.
Romance novels are so much more than what they are perceived to be. With Penelope and Vi’s books (whether written alone or together), you get romance, passion, chemistry, but you also get these amazing plot lines that captivate a reader and allows them to get involved in the life of the characters feeling every emotion along the way.
Loved these two characters. Super read.
Charlotte Darling left her cheating fiance and takes her wedding dress to a consignment shop to sell. While there she finds a beautiful feathered dress with a little blue note sewn inside. It makes her wonder what happened between the couple and she decides to look up the man who wrote the note.
Reed Eastwood is a little jaded when it comes to love. Charlotte is a beautiful distraction he doesn’t need in his life. When she ends up working for his company, it’s even harder for Reed to stay away.
A wonderful story about overcoming the past and finding who you truly are. Charlotte and Reed were both trying to find themselves even if they didn’t know it. Fate seemed to bring them together at the perfect time.
I was smitten by this book.
It was a great read 🙂
It was wonderful way for me, a nurse and mother of 2 young kids, to escape. I really enjoy Vi Keelands work.
