Amazon’s #1 Most Unputdownable Book of the Year. An Amazon Charts bestseller.A Wall Street Journal bestseller.A Washington Post bestseller. From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes an unexpected love story of secondhand hearts and second chances… mysterious blue note sewn into a wedding dress.
Something blue.
I’d gone to sell my own unworn bridal gown at a vintage clothing store. That’s when I found another bride’s “something old.”
Stitched into the lining of a fabulously feathered design was the loveliest message I’d ever read: Thank you for making all of my dreams come true.
The name embossed on the blue stationery: Reed Eastwood, obviously the most romantic man who ever lived. I also discovered he’s the most gorgeous. If only my true-love fantasies had stopped there. Because I’ve since found out something else about Mr. Starry-Eyed.
He’s arrogant, cynical, and demanding. I should know. Thanks to a twist of fate, he’s my new boss. But that’s not going to stop me from discovering the story behind his last love letter. A love letter that did not result in a happily ever after.
But that story is nothing compared to the one unfolding between us. It’s getting hotter, sweeter, and more surprising than anything I could have imagined.
Something new.
But I have no idea how this one is going to end…

Great book and I enjoyed
Good entertaining read – not too (at all) high brow. Read it just for fun. Some very funny dialogue which I really enjoyed.
An awesome, awesome story.
This is the story of Reed & Charlotte. Reed works at Eastwood Properties, which his grandmother owns. Charlotte is recently unengaged from her fiancé. She quit her job at his firm. There is something that she found in a store that led her to Reed. It didn’t turn out very well. She meets a woman, Mrs. Locklear, in the ladies room when she breaks down and has a crying fit. They talk for a long time. She gives her a job as her personal assistant, which is for Mrs. Locklear and her two grandsons. Oddly enough, Reed Eastwood is her grandson. They bump into each other on her first day of work. He doesn’t believe her that she’s an employee. They have words again. Him and his grandmother talk, and he has no choice in the matter. They must work together. These two characters are very funny. I enjoyed both of them immensely. Reed is very uptight. Charlotte isn’t. Reed would write her hate notes with any suggestions she had. They each had started a bucket list, which they called something different. His notes were hilarious, and so were hers. Reed had every reason to be the way he was, but something had to change. Their attraction could never be denied. It took him a long time after some things happened to show him he could never let her go. This was such a good story. I can’t even say that enough. This has many laugh out loud moments. It also has very tearful moments, and love moments.
This was a beautiful story how two come together by fate.
Charlotte is down on her luck and as she tries to live in the moment she ends up with a job with a grumpy very attractive man. She is determined to bring out the sweet side of him she knows he is hiding from a note of his she found in a wedding dress.
Reed is a rich, arrogant business owner who’s back story is sad and unexpected.
I felt my emotions were all over the place. This was more than I expected, times I would be upset then anxious, hurt but then relieved. This was not just a cat and mouse game but a story how two can come from damaged pasts to support each other and make their dreams come true.
I enjoyed both the book as well as the audio.
So I picked this book up on a whim… it was on sale with the paperback, so I said what the hey let’s do it.
Not at all disappointed!
I was pulled in instantly to this world. Often I feel that you get plopped into the middle of a characters life and you’re scrambling to catch up on their past. I didn’t feel like that at all when learning about Charlotte’s past. This story is told from a dual point of view, but we get glimpses into Reeds background as well over the course of the book. Rather than all at once. The humor that I got from these two characters had me chuckling out loud so often. While they start out as more so enemies, they quickly become friends through completing their lists. Throughout the course of their relationship from enemies, to friends, to lovers you got to see how they slowly fell for one another. Charlotte has expectations at first and she could see that Reed could fulfill those, if he would only give in to his feelings.
I think one of my favorite parts is that these two were MATURE. They didn’t cut off each other’s sentences, they talked through issues, brought up what they thought would be road blocks and worked through it all. I was so happy to read several of those parts because it could have gone either way. Reed and Charlotte balanced each other out with their personalities. I love that Reed took on Charlotte’s carefree spirit and that said spirit didn’t make her out of control.
Iris was a large factor in this entire book and I loved that she was such a great person for Charlotte to lean on throughout. That sneaky, old coot!
This was my first book by either Vi or Penelope (together or separate) and I was so pleased! I’ve already recommended this book to my darlings! And that’s the little d not a big D! 😉
It will make you laugh out loud and cry real tears.
Loved it. One of the best books I’ve read this year. I’ll definitely be reading more from Vi Keeland.
Great read. The series of independent stories warms your heart while rocking your world. Not to mention Dusan on the cover! Yum!
This was my first read from Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. I can say that I was not disappointed at all. I am looking forward to read more from them. Absolutely delighted to have read from them.
Charlotte, trading in her never worn wedding gown in a consignment shop leaves with another
wedding dress. She finds a love note and decides to find out who the man is that wrote it and
why they didn’t marry. Fate steps in and takes Charlotte and Reed on a journey from lost trust,
lost love to new found feelings. That have them learning to trust and love again despite what they have been through. Charlotte, tests Reed at every turn making him aware of that there is more
life and love for him despite his adamant choice to never love again. I really enjoyed the book and the characters. Vi Keeland brings to life the thoughts, feelings and wants of Charlotte and Reed.
I have read this book twice and loved it as much the second time as I did the first time. The meaning
I took away from the book is love always wins.
I was pleasantly surprised by this sweet story. I could not put the book down – yet I had to. Very unexpected storyline for both characters. Thank you to both authors for this wonderful story. I don’t know how you both do this together but glad it works.
This was one of the last books I read in 2019 and it’s going straight to my top 10 list!! I’ve been wanting to read Hate Notes for quite some time so I was more than ecstatic when I found it was available through KU!
I went in sure that I knew how the story was going to unfold, but let me tell you, there was more than one curveball I didn’t see coming!
Charlotte is having a rough time: cheating fiancée, joblessness and homelessness all in one sweep does not a happy person make. When she finds a note written by who must be the most romantic guy on the whole planet, her faith in true love is kind of restored… until she decides to stalk him and sign up for a viewing of a million-dollar estate she has no business viewing. Unfortunately, what she finds there is not the romantic Reed Eastwood of her fantasies but a cynical, cold but seriously hot jerk in a bow tie.
Luck would have it that she ends up being his PA, and even though they start off apparently hating each other, their underlying attraction and fabulous chemistry just keeps building until it’s too much. But things are not as simple as they seem and if they want their HEA they will have to fight and reach for it.
I really liked Charlotte, she was an optimistic ray of sunshine with a unique way of looking at things and I loved her for it. I totally loved that she had a temper and she’d go head to head with Reed whenever necessary.
Reed was a true romantic. He had to build a wall after a series of events made him question his entire life, but he eventually is able to tear it down with Charlotte’s help. He had more than one total asshole moment, especially before us knowing why he acted the way he did, and I found myself wanting to throw my kindle at his head. Ultimately, he manages to overcome his issues and everything is hunky-dory.
I loved how Hate Notes had some serious issues interwoven in the light romance, making it much more dimensional. It also had me sniffling and dabbing at my eyes with a tissue here and there, so to say I was totally invested in the characters is an understatement. With a great pace, awesome banter, scorching chemistry and some crazy shenanigans this was a fantastic way to end my reading-year.
I really enjoyed this one and found myself laughing and smiling my way through it. It starts with finding a note pinned in a second-hand wedding dress and then a drunken appointment to meet the writer and quite the let down. After crying her eyes out to a stranger, Charlotte has a new job. Lucky her, on the first day she runs into the same man who sent her crying to the woman who offered her the job, his grandmother. This was so good, watching them come together, work together and fall in love. Definitely a keeper!
Reed and Charlotte met after Charlotte found a love note in a wedding dress at a consignment shop. She wanted to meet the author of the beautiful note and set up an appointment to view an apartment that Reed had listed. Things go crazy from there when Charlotte (unknowingly) meets Reed’s grandmother who offers her a job so she ends up working for him. This was such an amazing story and had me in happy tears at the end.
This story takes you on such an amazing journey. Reed and Charlotte are a dynamic couple. You feel everything they go through. I love how you can fall for them both. The writing and flow of this book is perfect. I absolutely recommend this book.
*5 Stars*
I devoured this one pretty fast. I really loved both main characters, even with the way that Reed acts at the start.
The storyline with the wedding dress is an interesting one, and I thought it was a fun idea. The more we got into the story and discovered more about both Reed and Charlotte, the more depth there was to each of them, the more I loved them both.
This one had me laughing and also tearing up. A great read, definitely recommend.
There are not enough Stars to rate how much I love this book!
I absolutely loved this book. Hate Notes is a must read and my new all time favorite!
Amazing book. I loved the plot, the characters and the twist at the end. Do yourself a favor and get it.
I loved this book! Charlotte and Reed had chemistry in spades. There were so many “laugh out loud” moments, yet some serious life issues as well. I had read only a couple of short stories in an anthology by Penelope Ward & Vi Kneeland, but this novel will have me seeking out more of their work.
