Have you heard the rumor about campus celebrity DJ Dalton? No, not the one about number of the zeros in his bank account. Or the one about his father, the head football coach. Or even the one about his special talent between the sheets.I’m talking about the one where he has a female roommate in an all-male dorm.I can’t speak to the first three, but that fourth one is true. I know because that girl … is true. I know because that girl in his room is me.
Because of an error by the college, I’m placed with Mr. Campus Celebrity in the traditionally male dorm.
Is he panty-meltingly handsome with an attitude to match? Sure.
Do I accidentally fanaticize about him one (okay, maybe two) times? Fine, I’m honest enough to admit it.
None of that matters, because we’re opposites in all the ways that are important for getting along as college roommates:
He comes from a perfect life and old money. I come from a broken home and bowls of ramen.
He’s at Greene State to party. I’m here to study.
He’s a popular jock. I wouldn’t be caught dead playing sports.
To say we get off to a rocky start would be an understatement.
Ironically, that’s what causes our sizzling attraction to boil over one night. But even that comes at a price.
Because our story has a twist neither of us could see coming.
One that changes both of our lives, ‘till death do us part.

The college makes a mistake by putting Alex in all guy’s dorm. It doesn’t help that her roommate is all everyone seems to be talking about hot new quarterback for football team. Although, Alex thinks DJ is not her type. She knows they shouldn’t cross the lines with be roommates and try to survive her first year of college. Plus, it looks like DJ comes from a wealthy loving home that has money. Alex is from a crazy broken home that she prefers not to tell everyone about what happen when she was eight years old. Good thing Alex had her Aunt Mia, who took her in. DJ thinks Alex is hot but doesn’t want to cross the line with her being his roommate and have another crazy ex that won’t leave him alone. Alex and DJ’s story is humorous and heartwarming. They might even learn not to judge a book by it’s cover. This is a great start to a new series. I volunteer to read ARC for an honest review.
Great original college sports story.
All I can say is WOW!!!! Loved this book so much. DJ and Alex were an unstoppable force. Their relationship started out as enemies but it slowly progressed into something so much more. Loved watching them discover each other and how what they wanted and needed was right in front of them the whole time. This book had me feeling all types of emotions and I loved it. When I was finished I had the biggest smile on my face. I can’t wait until book 2 in this series. I highly recommend this and everything that Mickey has written, you won’t be disappointed.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a interesting story about two totally opposite people that are attracted to each other. One is a star quarterback and one devoted student. When the attractions explodes it really explodes misconceptions are revealed. Not every family is what they appear to be. Anxious to see if there is another book with DJ and Alex! Love Mickey Millers books!!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was funny and page turner. I think you enjoy this book
What an absolutely brilliant and enjoyable read. I honestly couldn’t get enough of this story. I loved how it has plenty of twists and turns throughout and the chemistry was amazing. I would have loved an extended look into their future. I’m going to miss them. A highly recommended read.
When college freshman Alex gets accidentally put in a men’s dorm she never expected to fall for her roommate. These two try and stay clear from each other and yet they fall in love. I absolutely loved the story line, I love that both DJ and Alex are so head strong. Hands down an amazing read and u highly suggest it to anyone who loves a college romance.
Man Oh man does Mickey Miller know how to pull you in and keep your wanting more. With every page you read he pulls you in more and more. Right from the start DJ and Alex take from emotional ride to the next with twists and turns and romance. It’s a slow burn with a unique twist that leaves you breathless and makes your heart race. Amazing read that definitely has me wanting to read more from him.
Mickey Miller delivers once again with a steamy enemies to lovers collage romance read! Hate mates is definitely a one click read without question.
Alex gets assigned to the guys’ dorm when her roommate cancels before her freshman year.
Not that she knows this before walking into her assigned room and meeting the hotness that is her new roommate, DJ. Who also turns out to be be the boy wonder quarterback she keeps hearing about and every girl on campus wants to date.
Oh, and the son of the football coach and they even live in the dorm named for his grandfather.
The two of them are are like flames licking the walls before everything goes up.
I loved their banter. They both have their issues that effect how they react causing a few misunderstandings.
Part of my love of this story, aside from the classic Mickey Miller heat, humor, and feels, is it brings me back to my 20s. College. Midwest. Flashbacks to one of my favorite movies at the time, Threesome. Except this story has a HEA and no MFM. Lol. Although, maybe a hot young Baldwin brother could play him.
I Floved DJ and Alex!
She’s a strong, smart, independent woman despite the tragedy in her life. She isn’t letting it hold her back.
DJ could be a jerk but we (him too) learn he’s a bit more self aware than your typical popular mr. perfect.
The friends both of them make (the ones who are real) are fantastic. Of course, we have the Mighty Mississippi. An imaginary town and college… Can’t wait for more.
I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This book shows why Mickey Miller is a one-click author.
Alex and DJ’s story is such a great funny and hot read. DJ Dalton is the freshman football star the whole town is talking about, and due to a mix up, Alex Reyes is assigned to the all male Dalton dormitory and DJ is her new roommate. There ware plenty of LOL moments in this book right from the start, and though there is an instant attraction between the two it is not an inst-love. I cannot wait to see where this series goes to next.
A great read !! This storyline is filled with humor, romance, heat, great chemistry, plenty of twists and turns. This is Alex and D.J.’s story… Alex ended up in the male college dorms due to her unisex name. Alex finds out her roommate is the very talented Quarterback D.J. Dalton. This first year could be the hardest for Alex or it could be the beginning of a great freshman year. I highly recommend this book ! I read this book through an arc program and this is my own honest opinion.
I am super excited about this new series. I love all of Mickey’s books for different reasons. DJ and Alex are so perfect for each other. Great start to what I know will be a great series with all the new characters we are introduced to here….
I think this series will appeal to a while new generation of readers as well as many college students will relate.
Okay, where to start. I never attended college because I don’t come from the US area. Here, we have elementary, high school, military and maybe a university.
Alex and DJ were a non-trivial couple, and another being in one room. It’s already a recipe for disaster as they say. But from the first moment you felt the tension in the air. And slowly you got to know the characters, love them. I had fun reading and experienced something different that I had never experienced before. Waiting for more surprises that Miller is aiming for.
I absolutely loved this book. DJ and Alex were unstoppable. They were addicting, the banter was off the hook and the chemistry between them was just wow. Alex’s freshman year, didn’t start out the way she had hoped a screw up with housing puts her in the all male dorm and rooming with none other than the smoldering hot quarterback. How in the world will these two get along? Rules, you need rules, pants always, shirt always and no staring. Right! That’s so not going to work. These two flirt with each other and find a common ground until a rumor starts and misunderstandings and no communication makes Alex believe something that’s not true. DJ is cocky, sure of himself, flirty and says whats on his mind, but there are always obstacles, Dj’s ex won’t go away, guys are circling Alex and the temptation of them living under the same roof is about to explode. Everyone sees DJ as the rich guy who has it all, perfect life, perfect family, but if you look deep enough you will see what’s really happening. No one is perfect and when Alex finally realizes her perception of him was so wrong everything changes. These two are made for each other if they could just get out of their own way. I can’t wait to see whose story we get next, Grant, Chris, Finn? Maya or April? Loved the book, all the characters were outstanding. I received a copy of this book.
Wow, HATEMATES is a very good sports romance story that was brilliantly written, heartwarming, witty banter, and inner dialogue—it is definitely a breath of fresh air. An engaging story that will keep you captivated throughout this addictive page-turner. I was hooked from the very first page—laughing, swooning, fanning, and highlighting awesome quotes. What girl doesn’t want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Well, Alex Reyes—the very attractive tattoo bad girl—has her hands full when the college makes an erroneous mistake and assigns her to the male dorms. Not only the male dorms but having being roommates with the most handsome and hottest guy on campus. DJ Dalton is the star quarterback who is rich and dorm named after his family, but he is also confident and charming. When Alex and DJ first meet, the chemistry between them was swift, hot and palpable. Alex just wants to focus on school to keep her scholarship, but how can she do that when DJ is a distraction with his heated stares and her dirty thoughts. Will this roommate situation work? Opposites don’t always attract. Two people can’t be forced to be happy, right! Destiny seems to have brought them together—and their story is one you will want to read. They will fascinate you and frustrate you at the same time. Lines will be crossed, secrets will be revealed. DJ has some secrets that he is holding back. They each have their imperfections to deal with but their journey makes them realize that they can overcome anything and any impediments. There are several twists and turns within the story that makes it interesting. The storyline is fluid, and the characters are extremely well developed. Mickey Miller has constructed a delectably sports romance that will lure you into the wee hours and beyond that, you will not be able to put this book down. You won’t regret reading Hatemates!
A college romance read that will take you back to such familiar memories that doesn’t disappoint. Alex and DJ takes the meaning of slow burn to a whole new level as their many banter pushes their button. I enjoyed seeing their characters come together first through friendship and later to much more as drama seem to always enter their life. This is a definite must read.
Mickey’s Miller’s Hatemates was a really fun college romance!
When an administrative mistake has DJ Dalton and Alex Reyes rooming together, their lives are set on a collision course that neither can avoid. You see, Alex is all female . . . and the only female at that in an all male dorm.
On the surface, they couldn’t appear to more opposite in pretty much every aspect that defines them. But, they have so much more in common than they ever could have imagined as well as an attraction they can’t ignore, especially when sharing such a small space. Getting involved with your roommate is a terrible idea . . .but what if you can’t help yourself?
Mickey Miller did a great job of creating a relationship between DJ and Alex that felt very organic and never forced. They go through so many feelings and “phases” as they move from new roommates to more and I really enjoyed their banter and interactions with each other and their group of friends.
Alex is super unique and kind of edgy and has a tragic past. DJ is the All American jock with a rotten present that he hides from the world. When they finally let their defenses down around one another and stop making assumptions, they are magic.
Mickey keeps the story fun and interesting with a great cast of friend characters surrounding Alex and DJ that I can’t wait to learn more about in future books. There’s also plenty of drama and angst as miscommunications, assumptions, jealousy and some family drama abound. Hatemates was a fun read and a great start to his new series. 4 stars.
“If one, two, three years from now we realize we’re not meant to be together, so be it. But right here, and right now? I can’t help it.”
“Can’t help what?”
“Can’t help falling in love with you.”
Aww… I loved this story! You know that saying “opposites attract”? Well, do they ever, and in a most delicious way!
I loved the slow burn. The way they push each other’s buttons in the beginning , for no other reason then trying to get a rise out of the other. Then the friendship, the sharing of secrets, then…..BA-BAM!!! Of course, no romance story would be complete without the guy messing up in some way, shape or form, and DJ does not disappoint. Yes, I know, the girl can mess up too, but c’mon ladies, how often do we do that? (LOL).
I’ve read all of this author’s books and he never ceases to amaze me with how easily he seems to slip into a different trope. This was a great story, with wonderful characters (I love Alex!!), and all the feels. Definitely grab it!!
Another fun, enjoyable read!
In this new series we are introduced to Alex and DJ, who meet due to some crazy mishap with campus housing. Needless to say things are awkward, but once they begin to make things work, the budding of a friendship begins. The attraction is there, and at times heat up, and I loved watching it unfold. The laughs, and general openness of the characters, as things progressed, were real and heartwarming.
I’ve loved stories from this author, and this is no exception. I look forward to seeing what he has in store next.
