Have you heard the rumor about campus celebrity DJ Dalton? No, not the one about number of the zeros in his bank account. Or the one about his father, the head football coach. Or even the one about his special talent between the sheets.I’m talking about the one where he has a female roommate in an all-male dorm.I can’t speak to the first three, but that fourth one is true. I know because that girl … is true. I know because that girl in his room is me.
Because of an error by the college, I’m placed with Mr. Campus Celebrity in the traditionally male dorm.
Is he panty-meltingly handsome with an attitude to match? Sure.
Do I accidentally fanaticize about him one (okay, maybe two) times? Fine, I’m honest enough to admit it.
None of that matters, because we’re opposites in all the ways that are important for getting along as college roommates:
He comes from a perfect life and old money. I come from a broken home and bowls of ramen.
He’s at Greene State to party. I’m here to study.
He’s a popular jock. I wouldn’t be caught dead playing sports.
To say we get off to a rocky start would be an understatement.
Ironically, that’s what causes our sizzling attraction to boil over one night. But even that comes at a price.
Because our story has a twist neither of us could see coming.
One that changes both of our lives, ‘till death do us part.

Hate Mates was a great story. The plot was strong, it was written well. The characters were strong. I really enjoyed Alex and DJ’s story. These two were perfect for each other. From the moment they had met, they were drawn to each other, their attraction was instant. The closer they became the stronger their connection grew. They may have had a few bumps along the way but they were good for each other. The completed one another and their chemistry was off the charts, it was sexy and steamy. They were great together.
This was a great story. I’m looking forward to reading the other characters stories, like, Luke, April, Maya and Grant.
Thank you, Mickey Miller. Great work 🙂
This is a very hot and tasty read that will have you on the edge of your seat and I read this in one sitting and fell in love with this story and the witty dialogue throughout this story.
Hatemates is an educational and heart-warming college sports romance.
As Alex and DJ’s story unravels, we see and feel the love and the heat! It keeps you engaged with humour, fun, honesty, heart melting moments and sexual tension. What seeps through is their continued witty, flirty banter and amazing chemistry.
As always Mickey Miller does not disappoint, I just could not put it down! I highly recommend Hatemates and author Mickey Miller!
I really liked Hatemates, and it was kind of fun to see my last name throughout the book, and the fact that the lead character was my ex husband’s name had no bearing on me, although I was kind of happy he was called DJ so I wouldn’t focus on that. So DJ has a new roommate and the fact that Alex is a girl makes it hard for both of them. There are parts that are laugh out loud funny, and then there are parts that make you want to reach in and shake them both!! The secondary characters are fantastic, and I really hope they are in the books to follow! I definitely recommend this book because I know you’re going to enjoy it as much as I did!!
Amazing book and I really adored Alex and D.J. so much. Because of her name she gets put in the guys dorm at college and her roommate is none other than D. J.. I just could not get enough of these two at all. They had this chemistry that was amazing.
This is a great start to a new series and world by Mickey! Alex gets stuck in the all male dorm with DJ Dalton because the college is over flowing with incoming freshmen and the mistake her for a boy because of her name. The way they fight their attraction to each other & try to avoid each other is amazing. When they finally give in magic happens! I loved this story & would love more from them! Can’t wait to see what other stories come from this world!
I received an arc in exchange for my honest review!
I love experiencing college with Mickey Miller’s characters. They are so like what you would expect if you were going to college or never did get to go but imagine it to be. The characters are so real, that they remind you of people that you knew or know in your life. A great read I can’t wait to see what happens to them Sophomore year.
I have been so excited about this book, especially since reading the first bit at the end of Black Ice. I’ve also seen all the love and positive reviews from ARC readers and people who have already finished it.
Now that I’ve read it, I’m a little surprised. Based on other people’s comments I anticipated something completely different. Now before I outrage you too much, let me explain.
This is book one of a new series in a college-aged, sports romance. I love that Mickey Miller is creating this new world. However, with that, I also expected really strong characters in DJ and Alex as the first couple. They need to be in order to be the foundation for this series. I really wanted to see more details and explanations from their pasts, and instead, they were just glossed over and implied. For example, at one point it is stated that something happened to/for Alex at age 15 but then it’s never explained.
There were also things mentioned, ie. a certain thing Alex wanted to accomplish academically, and we never learned whether or not she succeeded yet the epilogue refers to the following summer so it leaves a giant hole.
Aside from the content of the story, there were a few things with editing that were missed. At one point DJ leaves campus on a Friday night and is supposed to return after that. Following that, the days of the week are all messed up in the scene. At first, he somehow returns on a Friday, then the exact same day is referred to as Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Logically, he should have returned on a Sunday and Alex should be talking/referring to a Monday based on the scenario. Also, on the very last page of the book DJ repeats the same action twice, several lines apart and it doesn’t make sense.
All in all, I hope for the next book Mickey Miller spends more time focusing on the characters and their development/relationship. I also hope there are some holes filled in. I really would like to see more character and relationship development for DJ and Alex in future books as the series progresses. It felt at the time as if the details about the other characters, like Maya and Grant, were more important than Alex and DJ.
I thoroughly enjoyed Hatemates. Original storyline, wonderful characters, steamy love scenes and hilarious dialogue that had me laughing out loud a few times. I was disappointed when Alex and DJ’s story ended and look forward to reading more in future books in the series.
I am always excited to read anything by Mickey Miller. So as soon as Hatemates hit my eReader, I was excited to get started. This time around the author gives us a sports romance that was witty, fun and steamy. DJ and Alex had so much chemistry right from the start, even with their differences. But you know what they say, sometimes opposites attract.
Somehow the college made a mistake and assigned Alex into an all-male dorm with the one and only DJ Dalton. DJ comes from a wealthy family, but he is so much more than that. Alex has gone through so much and yet she is strong and determined. I loved the push and pull between them and eventually watching them fall. Another great read from Mickey Miller!
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
Due to a snafu when she registered for college not only does Alex find herself staying in the men’s dorm, but her roommate is none other than the quarterback of the football team DJ. Alex has a painful past and she can’t allow anything to distract her from succeeding at college, so she is determined to make the best of an awkward situation.
DJ appears to be living the life that most people would envy but appearances can be deceiving. He may be the star quarterback, his father may be the coach of the team, he could date any girl on campus he wanted, and the dorm may be named after his grandfather but there is so much more to the man.
Their interactions are humorous and hot, but it is the emotional connection they forge once they open their hearts and pasts to each other that make their relationship so special.
Maybe college has changed a lot since I went but I can’t imagine a school would take the chance of leaving a guy and a girl in a dorm room together to cohabitate. Sure, there are coed dorms but a coed room? Not likely. Lawsuit waiting to happen.
But, this is fiction so you go with it. Overall, I enjoyed the tension building between Alex and DJ as they deny the obvious attraction between each other. It was a little drawn out but there’s just enough strife to keep you interested.
There were a few hints of possible future romances so I’d like to see a continuance if this series…
4 stars.
DJ and Alex are the hottest college romance couple to hit my Kindle in quite awhile. They have this chemistry that is just, WOW! When they finally get together and begin their journey, it is just off the charts with sweetness, caring, sesuality and all the hotness they find between the sheets will combust!!
WOW Mickey did it again and wrote an amazing book! I received this as an ARC copy and I loved it! This book is based in college Freshmen year. Alex and DJ are sort of thrown for a loop when the school places her as his roommate in a all male dorm, one cuz of her name and two cuz they are over enrolled with students. This book has a lot of humor and very steamy sex. There are some life situations that are serious such as Alex’s story regarding her parents, DJ’s sister, and also what’s going on with his parents. I really enjoyed the story about the two kids who grew up with an alcoholic father but when they were older took separate paths in life. When they died they were asked why they took that path and their answer was the same, because my father was an alcoholic. That story gave me chills!!
Alex is a girl who has been trough some family tragedies in her life but does not show that to often. She has tattoos and piercings, has a great body, an attitude sometimes, and focuses on her school work. She befriends Maya and April and they are the best of friends. She can’t help her attraction to DJ though. He didn’t seem like her type and she was so mad at him when she thought he spread a rumor, but as the days go by her feelings grow stronger.
DJ is quarterback for the college football team. He is also the son of the coach and the dorm they are living in has his last name on it. So people seem to judge him based on all of that that he has this rich perfect life. Even Alex made the same assumption which made him angry and he ended up standing in front of a poetry reading and seeing people straight with a peek inside his not so picture perfect life. He has problems just like everyone else. He also can’t deny his growing feelings for Alex either.
They finally get the chance to be together and it was so much more than they thought. Only for DJ to get in his head because of family drama and almost screw it up. Luckily Alex cares deeply and takes the time to listen to him. I loved how this showed never to judge a book by its cover because everyone has something going on in their lives and no matter how perfect you think their life may be it may not be. Give someone a chance and take the time to listen to them and be honest with them. I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens Sophomore year!
I have just finished Hatemates and I have to say I enjoyed it very much.
First of all, I have to say I love Alex physical description. She is totally a badass with the piercings and the tattoos. It’s a nice and welcome change from the regular romance female characters.
Having said that, I have to say I thought there was going to be more drama though with the obnoxious HS friend and ex-girlfriend.
I also think that both DJ and Alex were trying to be indifferent to eachother rather than hating and antagonizing each other. This made the wait for them to actually hook up a little long.
Lastly, there was very little sports involved and I was really hoping there would be more of it.
All in all, I like the book and I think it is a good start to the series.
This book has all the feels you want in a Mickey Miller book. The hero and heroine are thrown into a dorm room together because of a mixup with the heroines name. This book is funny and steamy. It is a must read if you like colledge romances.
If you’re looking for an easy to follow, hot, steamy, sexy, smooth flowing read that captures your attention from the start. Congratulations my friends you’ve found it. The characters and scenes are realistic and believable. Twists and turns and unpredictable surprises that kept my eyes on the pages and on the edge of my seat. I followed the characters fascinated as their personalities transformed and blended. Vivid detailed descriptions were so life like and on point. The storyline was solid and well defined. Cold showers may be in order when your finished. Mickey Miller did a remarkable job bringing this story together beautifully.
I voluntarily submitted an ARC review for this book.
Loved this book. It was fun, cute, sexy, emotional. There were real issues that college kids go through. I love it when you can relate a book to real life. That is what pulls me in. The character development was great. I always enjoy reading book from Mickey Miller.
Alex and DJ seem to be from two different places, a tattooed girl from Cali and Midwestern jock where will they meet? Their dorm room of course, after a housing mix up they find themselves sharing a room. This read is full of humor, hard feels, sexual tension and great characters making it a good read.
This is a college sports romance that is filled with drama angst and so much more. The characters are amazing and so is the story. I can’t wait for more.
