“Madison Kate Danvers was murdered tonight.”
Those words changed my life, and not for the better.
They were wrong, of course. I wasn’t dead. But I was set up.
After being charged with a string of offences–and made an example of by my political minded father–I’m eventually released back into Shadow Grove with one thing on my mind.
Hate.
Someone is going to pay for derailing my carefully … one thing on my mind.
Hate.
Someone is going to pay for derailing my carefully laid out future. Someone is going to catch the full force of my hate. How very convenient that someone just moved into the bedroom down the hall from me.
Archer D’Ath and his boys messed with the wrong chick and they’re about to learn just how cold Madison Kate’s hate can run.
HATE is a full length mature college/new adult romance with enemies-to-lovers/love-hate themes. This is a reverse harem novel, meaning the main character has more than one love interest. This is book one of four in the series.more
Holy Shit. There are no words. This book is e everything. I love, love the characters. Kate is a strong women who doesn’t take anyone’s shit. Kate was set up and now all she wants is revenge. I really love Steele, Kody and Arch. Kate, Steele, Kody and Arch have an undeniable connection. I was hooked from page one and after how this book ended I want the next book ASAP. Truly an phenomenal 5 star read that everyone should one click.
Maddison Kate “Hate” is the first book of Tate James that I’ve read and I think I’ve found a new author to love!
I was addicted to this book with all its twist and turns and Oh Fu*k moments from the very first sentence to the very last, my heart was seriously on a roller coaster of emotions.
Maddison Kate is a badass Princess who shows she vulnerability even after everything she’s gone through, with that being said I think that’s why I love her she’s only human and learning along the way.
I think I love all three boys Archer, Kody and Steel for all different reasons..
Tate is an amazing writer and I’m defiantly hooked can’t wait to read the next three stories so I can read the rest of her series
That cliff hanger tho!!! Ahh I’m addicted and need more now!
Tate James is one of my favorite authors- she’s so incredibly versatile in the kinds of words she can build and she’s so refreshingly unapologetic about her character’s imperfections- the layer nuances that make them so interesting.. I’ve yet to read a book by her that doesn’t immediately enthrall me and leave me ravenous for more, and Madison Kate is probably my favorite book of hers to date. This story is addictive- it is not short, yet I somehow read it in one sitting because I literally could not tear myself away.
We’ve seen the trope before- the tough as nails heroine who finds herself living with her enemies/stepbrothers who are involved in some sort of shady business- it’s one of my favorite book set-ups. Honestly, I’d never get tired of interactions, but let me tell you, Tate makes it fresh and interesting- in part because her heroine is as much the bully/aggressor, in part by the brilliant and HOOKING opening chapter, and in part because these characters are trope-defying- they are more interesting, more layered, more complex. And so damn fascinating.
The opening chapter of this series is one of the strongest I’ve read in a way- straight into the action, neck deep in trouble and thrust into the mystery and danger. It is also a beautiful case study of some of the characters we see- by seeing MK’s highs and lows in these opener, we really get a glimpse into who she is- she’s an adventurer, craving connection, tough as nails, but also weighed down by expectations and trauma. The Riot Night on Halloween ended up permanently altering MK’s life- and most of the book is a year later journey of the aftermath, when she finds herself connected to those she believes wronged her.
Our story starts out in a fight ring, and for much of the book, you feel like you are in one. Backed up in a wall, trying to figure out the next move, unsure what is happening around you, dodging punches.Tate smartly delivers this book only in MK’s pov- I’ve noticed a lot of authors doing this in the first of a bully-ish series- that way the men remain mystery, we don’t know their true intentions or feelings, and here it is all the more important because MK is trying to figure some stuff out, and the boys are key- having their thoughts withheld mean we are experiencing this like MK- confused, frustrated, angry, torn- as she tries piece together all that is withheld from her/about her.
Tate is again unapologetic about creating interesting, flawed characters. This book is called Hate, our main character is fueled by it- so naturally, at times we don’t like things she does are are frustrated by are, naturally at time she’s not seeing what is around her because she’s blinded by the rage she’s built, by the narrative she’s told herself about what happened for almost a year. She’s not trusting or vulnerable, and I’m looking forward to more of her vulnerability as the series progresses, but she is so incredibly tough, so resilient. And, I love that she’s so comfortable in her skin- she’s embraced who she is and what she wants, even if at times new information makes her question her feelings. The boys are so deliciously alpha- glimmers of kindness and tenderness but mostly raw, dark, and dangerous men- we have a thoughtful one (Steele), the fun, flirty playboy who seems like he needs a hug (Kody) and the alpha leader who seems irredeemable (Archer). I get why some don’t like him, but I think once we see the truth behind him, he’ll floor us.
Tate does not hold back here- her characters are flawed and not always likable, there is darkness, and the only thing you can predict about the action or the characters is that they are unpredictable, not (yet) fully understood. This story is so engaging, so unique, so addictive. And the cliffhanger? BRUTAL. Need Liar now!
An absolutely outstanding read…. it’s literally killing me having to wait for book two. Tate is an author that I one click straight away and she does not disappoint with Hate. I’m not ready for the twist and turns this series is going to take us on. Tate has created another world where her fans are going to get lost in. An super fantastic 5
Hate is the first book in this 4 book series of contemporary, enemies-to-lovers, RH romance. I have loved and enjoyed 2 series from the author, and I think this newest work has a darker, grittier, edge on it. From the get-go, the story will have you flipping the pages and keep you hook until to the very last page. Without giving anything away, this is one of those story that you will have go through blindly and trust that you will come out gasping for your breath for that heart-stopping ending.
Since this is book one, there were still a lot of mystery and speculations that will make you itch to get the next installment. Believe me, the struggle is real! Can’t wait for book 2!
This book is pure sin!! Hot bad boys who make you think naughty things and a sarcastic woman who doesn’t take any crap!! This book was deliciously dangerous!! I’m anxious for the next book!!!!
Madison Kate is angry and vengeful and a bit of a brat. But I definitely felt for her.
She gets framed by three gorgeous (why are they always so hot?) men for what goes down as Riot Night and subsequently spends three months in jail before her evil father sends her to a monastery in Cambodia. Upon arrival back in the states, her father jets off to Europe with his new girlfriend, leaving her to live with three semi-stepbrothers. And to up the drama, the three men who set her up are her new roommates.
Madison is filled with righteous anger and does her best to get back at them. Her pranks are a little immature, but I can understand her grasping at anything to recover her strength and power.
All the men have different personalities and are well-defined individuals. Madison’s relationship with each was very different in their progression, making it seem more real.
Suspense and secrets and a mystery stalker, and I’m hooked.
This is the first time I have read anything from this author, and I can’t wait to read more. This is the first book in the Madison Kate series, and the story Madison. When thing go horrible wrong one night, Madison ends up set up, and in trouble, and when she goes home, she finds out she living with the people responsible for her downfall, Archer, Cody, and Steele. This was a great read, very well written, and the characters have hot chemistry, and kept me glued to the pages. This was emotional, intense, raw, twisted, suspenseful, dramatic, and steamy! I can’t wait to continue in the next book.
This is the first book that I have read from Tate. This was quite an interesting book from beginning to end. It was well written and very enjoyable. Did leave me with a cliffhanger that has me wanting to immediately read the next one.
Madison Kate and her friend end up going somewhere they shouldn’t on Halloween night. Stuff goes down and Madison ends up getting into a ton of trouble for it. She is not out from all of that trouble and going home. But the three people that are living at her house are the ones that got her into trouble in the first place. She cant stand any of them. But little does she know the three of them of there to protect her and are going to make her life interesting.
I absolutely loved each page turning moment of this book. I loved Madison and the things that she does to seek revenge against Steele,Kody, and Archer. But in the end they are the ones that end up I believe falling for her. But we will have to see in the next one. Highly recommend. I cant wait to read more from Tate. A fan has been gained by reading this one.
Dark definitely describes this book to a “T” AMAZING!!!
Oh my God!!! This book had my blood pumping and kept me on edge. And that cliffhanger. Dang. I definitely have to know what heppens next. I am at a loss for words for how damn good this book is. WOW!!!
This story was absolutely amazing from start to finish I could not stop reading it. I haven’t read a lot of Tate’s books before this and the ones I did I always enjoyed but this book was on a league of its own. Every chapter had me hooked and full of emotions Madison’s story is one you don’t want to miss at all. You definitely do not want to miss reading this book it’s one that will stay with you for a long time to come. I’m not going to go I to any details of the story because others have and I feel you just need to read this book. It does leave you on a cliffhanger ut it’s so worth the read that you wont mind the cliffhanger. I can’t wait for the next book to see what Tate has in store for us. She is a fabulous author and rocked this story. What are you waiting for go read it now!!!
This book was amazing to read. Definitely can’t wait for the next one. Madison Kate is an awesome FMC. I love all the pranks she plays to get back at the guys. And oh the guys!!! Mmmm I’ll take them all please! If you’re looking for a good revenge book with an awesome FMC and hot guys, this is it!! I couldn’t put the book down and I can’t wait for book two! All the twist and turns of the story were amazing.
Seriously could not get enough of Madison Kate and the boys. Even amidst all their dickishness there’s a surprising amount of sweetness and concern. MK’s emotional hang-ups are well-earned and damn if I don’t want her to get her own and still have her cake, too.
Hate is the first book in the Madison Kate series.
I started this book and I could not put it down until I had devoured every word. Madison Kate has some spunk and sass to her. She is on a quest for revenge, and I wouldn’t want to cross her.
Steele, Kody and Archer-you can’t help but fall for them. Each of them bring something unique to the dynamic, and it’s easy to see why MK struggles with how she feels about them. They can be so infuriatingly jerky, then show their softer side.
This story was full of twists and turns and kept me guessing up until that killer cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to dive back into this world in book 2.
My Rating: ****1/4
Type: Series. Book1
Genre: Contemporary Romance, YA, Highschool bully reverse harem romance
Narration: Single POV
Primary Characters: Madison Kate, Archer D’Ath, Kodiak Jones, Max Steele
Source: Courtesy of Author/ Publisher – ARC
Note: Ends with cliffhanger and it’s a 4 series book.
This is my first book by Tate James. This book was unique. As blurb says, book starts with the Madison Kate’s version of Riot Night. How one thing led to another and how she got arrested for her own death along with several other charges.
Now after 11 months of the instance she has only one thing in mind, i.e.“HATE”. The moment she is back home she has bigger shock waiting for her. All 3 guys whom she hates so much stays down the hall in next room. She has only one moto for now, to kick them out of her house, but she to try lottttt harder. What exactly is there moto? How did she fit in all this equation?
I really can’t decide whom I like the most among the boys. All 3 of them are so different and lovable in different ways. Steele is so sweet. Kodi is funny and sexier. Archer is more closed off, I can’t tell anything about him at this point. He looked more focused and his dialogues in the end of the book was surprising.
Pace of the story was good. Well-developed characters with simple language to follow. Totally loved every one’s distinct character. I loved how boys tried to build friendship and trust. Only reason I’m not giving full 5 stars because, I was disappointed in her friend choice. Bree not testifying in court about MK’s innocence was worst betrayal in my book. I understand author’s reasoning for MK to accept Bree back in her life (Cambodia- lessons) but I can’t think of accepting a friend back when they can’t stand with you when you needed them the most. Bree annoyed me a lot more in several instances. Totally loved Dallas looking forward to seeing more of him.
Overall, it’s a captivating world of thrilling mystery and revenge. If you are into YA reverse harem romance with unique characters and wee bit of bullying then this is for you.
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book in exchange for honest review.

***4,5 “BDE (Big Dick Energy)!!!” stars***
“This was war and there were no fucking rules. No polite etiquette. Only the brutal and bloodthirsty survived.”
Wow!!! Just wow!!!! This is my kind of book!!!! For real!!!!
The first book in this series made such a great impression to me!!!
Can’t really wait for the next part, especially after that damn cliffy that left me looking on my kindle with my mouth open!!!!
Nope, I’m refusing to accept that!!! No, way!!!!
“What was it you said? All’s fair in love and war?”
“I said HATE and war.”
“It’s a fine line.”
Anyway, everything started almost a year before, at Halloween night, when Madison Kate and her best friend Bree had joined an illegal MMA fight in an abandoned amused park “The Laughing Clown”…
That night was the night that her life turned upside down in every way.
That night was the night that she have met for first time, three guys that perplexed her life so much…
That was the night that her plans and dreams shattered and she had to face something that she didn’t do.
That was the night that Madison Kate Danvers died….
“They deserved my anger, and they damn well knew it.”
“You don’t know me.”
“Everyone knows you Madison Kate.”
“Not anymore.”
Now, she is back in town and she haven’t forgot what she lost and she is full of hatred for these three strangers that messed with her life so carelessly….
And surprise, surprise!!!! These three said dudes are now her roommates!!! Pfff… Don’t ask, it’s a long story!!!!
And now, Madison Kate is determined to made them pay for what they did to her…
The only factor that she never think is that she might be attracted to them!!!
Yes, all of them!!! Don’t you forget, we’re talking about a reverse harem!!!!
“I was doomed; I had accepted that monhts ago. Now, all I wanted was to drag those fuckers down with me.”
“What was it about angry bad boys that turned me on so hard?”
Well, i can’t really tell you how much i’ve enjoyed Madison Kate’s encounters with the guys!!! They were hot, steamy, delicious and full of hate and passion!!!!
I loved how Madison were!!! I loved her determination and her vicious mind!!!
Yep, these boys were confusing the hell out of her, but she could so easily give them hell and i loved every single moment that she was doing exactly that!!!
“I hated them, and I needed to stop forgetting that fact.”
“These boys were turning out to be much, much more than I’d given them credit for, and I was craving the dephts of their darkness like a drug.
It was a shame they’d tried to screw me so hard a year ago because I might have just found my soulmates.”
As for the guys??? God, they were hot as sins!!! All three of them, even though i have a tiny prefference toward Archer!!!!
Archer was the most closed and intriguing character in here…. He was a professional fighter and he had some shady parts on his character and usually this is a lethal and attractive combination. No?
Steele was sweet!!! I freakin’ adore the contradictions that were his character… He was a mechanic/ pianist/ whatever the others needed him!!!
Kody was sexy and funny!!!! He was also determined to get under Madison Kate’s skirt since the first moment…
“I happen to like games, Madison Kate.”
“Knowledge is power, Princess Danvers… but ignorance is bliss. You decide for yourself which one you prefer.”
Well, i really don’t know how all of these things will be played out in the next books, but i love these boys and they better have a good explanation of this ending!!!!
My only issue in here was that I was a little bit emotional frustrated in the romance part, but I’m sure that since we are still in the beginnig, the next part will make me see things differently!!!!
Oh, Tate James!!!! I’m hanging from your pen!!!! Give me more please!!! I can take it!!!
“It was time to force their hands. Once they fought back, things would be clearer again.”
***I received an ARC for the exchange of an honest review***
** Edited to include audiobook thoughts **
I have to say, I learned to love Brooke’s voices and inflections in this audiobook. I wasn’t sure in the beginning but she gained strength and was amazing by the end. I thought her rendition of Madison Kate was spot on. I wasn’t a huge fan of how sometimes she performed Bree’s lines but I loved the rest of her voices. I like when there is a male and female narrator, but sometimes it can be a little disjointed with the pauses and everything if they aren’t doing the whole chapter/they interject instead. There were some moments that happened in this audio, but not enough to deter me. I thought Lucas did a good job doing the 3 different voices for the guys, you could easily tell when he was Archer, Steele, and Kody. I would give the narration 4.5/5 stars. Would recommend to everyone (already picked up books 2 and 3 and listening to them right now)
My favorite series of Tate’s has alway been her Kit Davenport series. I love her other series, don’t get me wrong, but none have topped my obsessive love for Kit and her men. This new series might dethrone it, I am kinda nervous hahaha. I loved everything about this book, I had a hard time working from home this week, trying not to read it the whole time. I totally didnt use it as a reward for getting items checked off my to-do….yeah never would do that .
I am not gonna give anything away, it would totally do this book a disservice if I did. I can sorta see where Tate is going with this, still a lot of things up in the air, but I know I am going to love it the whole time. I mean, that cliffhanger was brutal, but that won’t deter me from rereading it and devouring book 2 right away. You will not be disappointed with this book. I am glad Tate really took the time to make this book the masterpiece it is and not rush it.
Put in my review when this first released that I would get this on audio like instantly, glad I did! 100% recommend
WOW! I cannot form the right words to explain how much I absolutely loved this book!!!! I will try anyways.
Pink haired, foul mouthed Madison Kate came back from a year long stint paying for a crime she did not committ. When she comes home she finds the three sexy guys that put her in that position living in her fathers house. And from that point on she has it in her head she is going to make them pay.
Archer D’Ath (the ring leader if you will and also known as blue eyes in the beginning) was broody, snippy, HOT, MOUTH WATERING, angry, tattooed and oh so yummy.
Max Steele (better known as Steele..or Gray eyes in the beginning) was also HOT, caring, dripping with tattoos and the least bad one of them all. When he and Madison got together I was LITERALLY SQUIRMING.
Kodiak Jones (or Kody is what he prefers..but in the beginning he was green eyes) was also like the other two HOT, blonde haired, clown of the 3, sweet, tattooed muscled up funny sexy bad boy. I loved everything about these guys. They were bad to the bone, tatted up and made Madison life hell.. She was always so angry…when she wasnt lusting after them. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. This book was executed SO well. I cannot wait for the next one!!!!!! *does leave off on a cliffhanger.*
If you like slow burn RH’s there is for you. There is a constant question of who will break first, and when will they come together. This question applies to everyone of Madison Kate’s three guys. Archer, and his buddies Steele and Kody. If the beginning of the book puts you off by meeting a typical spoiled rich girl in Madison Kate keep reading! She gets a wake up call that definitely brings out her inner bada**. I love that the FMC gives as good as she gets even though she is strongly attracted to all three boys. Arch, Steele, and Kody have a great friendship and are really tight. They will not let a female come between the three of them. There is mystery surrounding this story that keeps me guessing who the real bad guy is. I can’t wait to find out in the next book in the duet!
Alls Fair in HATE and War
“Variety is the spice of life, Steele. Why choose?”
Madison Kate said it pretty well in that quote with how I felt since I started reading reverse harem years ago. Tate James gives us so many personalities in this harem which makes us love it more. Archer, Max, and Kody are great as a team but each have their own personalities.
First off she did an amazing job writing this book from beginning to end. The beginning was a little rough start in identifying character due to them being identified by eye color. But by a couple chapters in their personalities shine and names are no issue.
Our girl MK is a bad ass girl who grew up with a lot of trauma but also she becomes so much stronger due to it. One thing that got me was when I actually felt her emotions so strong while reading. Her HATE kind of set my mood in the book and I’m not going to lie I snapped at a few people.
There is so much darkness in the book, but also mystery where you think you have it figured out until you realize you have no clue. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for RH, but also looking for something that is thrilling and have you on the edge of your seat.
Now I just can’t wait for book 2 of Madison Kate Saga, Liar. 😉
